(See: Madden, John) And likely many did just that. However his body of work as a player is HOF worthy, IMV. He intercepted 62 passes. He was tied for third all-time when he retired after the 1972 season. He is still tied for eighth all-time and still ranks first in Lions history. LeBeau said he was most proud of starting 171 consecutive games, an NFL record for a cornerback. But his interceptions came when seasons lasted 14 games, not 16, and teams didn't pass as often as they do today. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
CowgirlsFan Posted February 7, 2010 Share Posted February 7, 2010 Thankfully numbers alone don't cut. Reed was the better player. He played outdoors and that effects his numbers some. One of the writers in St. Louis, who is voting member, said that Reed was the best slot receiver EVER, and that his YAC numbers are second only to Rice. Carter is known to be a me first guy. Speaking of writers.....might be a good idea to get on the good side of Rick Gosselin...and have him "" lobby"" on Reed's behalf next year. He is well KNOWN and RESPECTED throughout the NFL.
