  1. Below is my initial stab at our starting line-up. Without knowing Gailey's offensive scheme, I went with the assumption that he is going to have a "flex" back on the field that will often line up in the slot or as a 2nd back. Offensively - I am assuming that Wood will be healthy and Johnson beats out Hardy. Defensively, with the acquisition of Troup, I have moved Williams to DE. I assume Schobel is back for 1 more year (if not, slot Moats as the other OLB - I know they are projecting him at ILB).

    QB - Edwards

    RB - Jackson

    Flex - Spiller

    WR - Evans

    WR - Hardy

    TE - Nelson

    LT- Bell

    LG - Levitre

    C - Hangartner

    RG - Wood

    RT - Green

    DE - Stroud

    NT - Williams

    DE - Edwards

    OLB - Schobel

    ILB - Posluszny

    ILB - Davis

    OLB - Maybin

    CB - McGee

    CB - Florence

    FS - Byrd

    SS - Whitner

I think the d-line is going to platoon a lot, so guys like Stroud, Williams, Edwards, Carrington, Troupe, and S Johnson will probably all play significant snaps. I also think McKelvin is the nickle back this year and Youboty will be the primary CB backup on the outside. I think the LBs are going to be switched around a lot as well.

  2. Can you block?

Goofy draft by BUF - if they wanted some spiff, I would have thought they would have plucked an early-round WR. As well as a CB (blasphemy, I know). Because they had their CBs playing safety, and their Safties playing CB for years.

So now they change their scheme. McK if he returns, and McGee better be getting in shape and stretching their legs in the clubhouse.

Last year, we noted Levitre's T-Rex arms, but now think he's the LT of the future.

If I were calling plays against BUF next season, I'll toss long.

Amazing - this hailing of a 7th rnd QB...

What's so amazing about the GM hailing the 7th round QB a developmental prospect? How do you figure that Levitre is playing LT, when Gailey and Nix have both said up to this point that he's staying at LG?

  3. First off I don't do drugs, and it is way too early for me to be drinking so YES I am serious and here is why.

    1. Coaching is better. ANYONE is an improvement over Jauron, VanPelt etal.

    2. The talent has improved. No way in hell do we suck this year as badly as we did against the run. The 3-4 should bring more pressure allowing our good DB corp to make more turnovers.

This OL produced the 16th rated running game in the NFL last year as well as a 1000 yard rusher. Spiller has 10x the talent our other RB's do, plus I don't see us having as many OL injuries this year. We will be improved.

    3. We lost 6 games by a total of like 20 points.

I feel this team is going to do better than most people think!

I like the optimism - I thought you'd never come back they didn't take a QB high this year.

I like the optimism, Darth. I'm with you! I'm sick of all the Jets Kool-Aid that's being consumed on this board. The Pats aren't what they were. The fish don't have any better talent than us. Go Bills!

You have a fine avatar, sir.

  4. It started last year when Nix came back and got to work on improving the scouting department. And he's promised to enlarge the department going forward (and as we're learning, if Buddy says it, he's going to do it).

In my eyes this is the best part of the new FO - talk is no longer cheap from the FO. No more of this, we're going to tell you one thing and then get too scared (or realize it wasn't well-thoughtout enough to do) and do another. These guys are at least making an earnest effort to make the team better and are sticking to their philosophy. It reeks of conviction.

  5. It was a smart decision by Nix and Gailey to go with Trent as the starter in 2010. I think that it makes a lot of sense to give him one last chance, especially with a young team that is rebuilding.

The guy was horrendous last year. I get that. I watched the games. But he was put in an impossible situation with decision to gut the offensive line and the total chaos surrounding the strategic direction of the offense. He was shell-shocked. Fitzy was the better player to deal with the protection breakdowns and still go through the progressions.

But Nix and Gailey discounted the disaster of 2009 and focus instead on mid-2007 and early 2008 (including the Chargers game after his concussion) when Trent showed that he can be a top-10 NFL quarterback. He reacted to struggles by throwing coaches under the bus and that hurt him with teammates and led turds like Donte Whitner to jump all over him. That doesn't matter now because those coaches are gone and the losers like Whitner may soon be following them.

Trent could be gone in a year, but at least Gailey will have seen what he needs to see to make that call. He is almost certainly our 2010 starter.

I agree with the sentiment about Edwards not getting a fair shake last year and that he deserves a shot to win the starting job this year if he can put it back together. What I don't get is how you can say that Edwards deserves abnother chance, but loser-turds like Whitner are going to be on their way out and seemingly don't deserve another chance. I think it's pretty obvious that Whitner has played a lot longer, better, and more consistantly than Edwards during his time here (while also being a clear-cut starter as opposed to being in the mix forr a starting job). Without using the words "draft", "round", or "reach", what makes you think that Whitner is done and Edwards still has potential?

  6. up to $30 to the Bills store or any other store as long as Bills attire is purchased. I will pay for it and have it shipped to you!

    Rules:

    1. Pick the team that DRAFTS the player (if team A drafts player A and trades him to team B, team A is the correct answer)

    4: CJ Spiller - Seattle

    5: Dez Bryant - Jacksonville

  7. Kiper particularly high on Thomas, whom he called one of the fastest risers up the board...likes Thomas's huge hands (especially compared to LaFell) and Thomas can run very well after catch

Best blocking WR in the draft, and we just waived our best blocking WR, Josh Reed

If this guy didn't have a horrible QB throwing to him he would be one of the best in the nation. As it stands he should do well as he is the only player that Nesbitt ever seems to throw to, besides Allen.

Tech's triple-opt 3,even 4-headed running attack hampers Jackets passing game. Thomas would be Top 10 in the draft were it not for these two factors.

    6'-3" and 230 lbs.

Runs the 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds (confirmed)

46 passes for 1,154 yards and eight touchdowns in 2009, far better than LaFell.

It can be done taking a WR this early:

    1-Bryan Bulaga OT Iowa

    2-Demaryius Thomas WR Georgia Tech

    3-Tyson Alualu NT California

    4-Donald Butler ILB Washington

    5-Jonathan Crompton QB Tennessee

    6-Rahim Alem OLB34 LSU

    6-Vince Oghobaase DE34 Duke

    7-Chris Scott OT Tennessee

    7-David Gettis WR Baylor

Will Crompton really make it to the 5th round? I've seen reports that he's the second best QB prospect this year behind Bradford. Is he any good?

  8. I don't know. Something tells me Gailey has fallen head over heels for Tebow.

If that's the case, I'd hope he'd have a real good idea how to use him this season effectively while also grooming him for the starting job. That's a hell of a gamble for the new FO as a first pick. It might be boom or bust as far as their credibility as FO is concerned.

  9. That to me is going to be the key thing. I personally think its possible to find 4 that should start.

I'd agree with four, but that would be including the first rounder. I think the expectation should be - especially with all the holes and new alignments - that the first and seconders both start/contribute heavily and then two of the later round picks (between 3 and 7) also start/contribute this season. Because of the positions of need being the more important positions however, I could see these numbers decreasing solely because they don't want to start a rookie QB or LT from day one.

I definitely see a NT, OLB, and OG or RT as potential starting positions for this year's rookie class. LT I think depends more on which player you draft, as I'm sure we'd all like to them play all year, they may be more of a developmental project in year one if it isn't one of the top two or three guys. I have a hard time seeing a rookie QB coming in here and starting. Not that I think the current QBs are that great, it just seems like Gailey won't rush someone in there until they can play and be successful and that Nix is probably on board with this strategy as well. If nothing else, the Cornell green signing shows that they would rather have a cheap, serviceable veteran as a stop-gap option as opposed to some rookie or second year-unproven player being the only option. It shows that they are trying to groom players that they draft into players that will play big roles for the team in the future. Last coaching staff seemed to be in more of a win now mode.

  10. I like the idea of drafting Iupati. It would really help to solidify our offensive line whether we get an OT or not later on. I guess the only problem I might have with it is if they pass up a chance to draft an elite pass rusher to take anyone else. Those are players we need now and are hard to get. If Morgan is that guy, you have to take him when you get the chance. Same would go if they thought another player was the best pass rusher.

  11. I'd be happy with Graham or Morgan. It would be nice to have the option of taking the first DE/OLB.

I agree with this thinking 100%. Something about top 10 picks makes me feel like we should be able to get the best player at a semi-premier position. You don't get better by taking the 4th OT in the draft in the top 10 unless all four of them look like instant all-stars.

I have said before that I think they will target Morgan (only saying his name because I think he's the best pass rusher, but you can insert whomever you that way about here) unless Okung is still there (QB being the wild card, as they may take one of the top 2 if they're there). The other OTs look like RTs or projects to me (or both) and if we're going to take that type of player, it should be reserved for at least the 2nd round and later.

I want a player that they can use in the first round. Even if Morgan for example might need a year to be a starter, but can still play a role (i.e. rush specialist). I'd really like any player that they felt they integrate into the system on either side of the ball early on in 2010.

  12. I've known about NFL head coaches sleeping in their offices and spending 110 hour work weeks for years. But this Gailey guy, he doesn't even seem to have time to fit much in even during the off season. Just read some of his quotes:

"Our GM has spoken to him (Marshawn Lynch) I have not talked to him." - I say, why the hell not, Chan? He's only a former number one pick who is still extremely young, and if someone can figure out how to work with this kid, they could have a great running back for the next 8 years or so. Or even on the flip side. If you are too "important" to waste your time reaching out to one of your current players on your roster, just how many other teams are going to be interested in trading for him?

"He's an intelligent football player and I really enjoyed the short time I had with him....(Talking about Tim Tebows' Buffalo workout). What does Gailey mean, "short time" he had with him? Tebow was in Buffalo, working out only for the Buffalo Bills. Jim Kelly took the kid out to dinner. What other more important dinner plans did Chan have that night? Was he glued in front of his TV watching Dancing With The Stars? Was he and Buddy out shooting pool at their favorite honky tonk while Kelly spent "quality time" with a kid that just might end up being drafted by the Bills??

"We just started talking about terminology and implementation of what we're trying to do," Gailey said of his initial meeting with Edwards, Fitzpatrick and Brohm. "I haven't sat down and talked to (the QB's) about the situation. I haven't addressed that yet." That is a quote from TODAYS' Democrat and Chronicle. Here's the link below: http://www.democratandchronicle.com/articl...e-Bills-starter

Wow. So when exactly does Chan expect to "discuss the situation" with the three QB's he allegedly took so much time to study up on the past 3 months? After all, he's made his decision on what to do about the QB situation for his Buffalo Bills, right? He told us in no uncertain terms, he would know what direction he would be going in before free agency started. And here we are, about a month into free agency, and Chan has said nothing to anyone about what he and Nix allegedly decided over a month ago. The same three guys are here, wondering what the hell their roles are going to be, and workouts are starting and we are just a few weeks from the draft.

I guess Mike Holmgren has a different take on "making QB decisions." He dumped both guys from last year's team, and has already brought in two veterans to replace them. Now I'm not saying Delhomme and Wallace will be much better then Quinn or Anderson. But at least Holmgren showed his team that he will not accept the same old same old.

So far in free agency, Buddy Nix has shown we Bills fans that he is prepared to absolutely accept the same old same old from last years' players that currently take up the most important positions on the team. QB - same 3 guys. LT - same injured guys. NT - same 2 undersized DT's. WR - Same guys minus TO. And on top of that, Chan Gailey has been the busiest head coach in the NFL. Too bad nobody knows what the hell he spends all of that time doing.

I think you're overreacting. The QB spot is going to be an open competition - they've been saying that for a while. He obviously just dodged that question about Marshawn because he didn't want to say what was really on his mind about it (which was probably something too obscene to mention even here). They probably will draft a QB was well - they have been saying they'll add another one too. Free Agency was actually pretty productive considering who was available and what we got. Also, it's not over, not to mention the draft. We'll get 9 more bodies in here - hopefully 3 or 4 seriously talented ones - to plug some holes. They still need to fill some holes, but I expect them to fill them for the most part. Just a little Patience.

  13. An excellent concern.

Currently medical marijuana sold legally is of generally excellent quality. But I'm guessing that won't be the norm for mass market stuff. OTOH, I'm guessing there will be a minimum THC level, so you know you aren't going to get burnt for a bag of some lawn shavings, or something.

In order for legalization to be effective the weed will have to be of decent quality, one would think. But like you, I would steer clear of garbage weed, legal or not.

I've been to Amsterdam and they do not have a quality problem - everything is top notch.

  14. I been reading all these ridiculous mock drafts and fantasies about the draft. If you want to be a champion/competative team then you build from the inside out, good/ championship type teams win the battles in the trenches. Offensive and defensive lines thats where it starts. I cant remember a quarterback winning a superbowl on his own with no offensive or defensive line help. But i do remeber teams winning superbowls without great quarterbacks beacause they dominated in the trenches.

With that being said, i believe we should draft big men early. My first choice would be OT Brian Bulaga, if hes off the board by the 9th pick i think we should trade down and try to pick up and extra 3rd or 4th round pick. If we trade down then i would focus on a big DT maybe Dan Williams or Terrance Cody depending how far down we trade. In the second i would focus on OT Someone like Charles Brown or Bruce Campbell or Jared Veldheer should be available for us. If for some fortunate reasone OT brian Bulaga Falls to us at the 9th pick then i would focus on a DT like Cam Thomas in the second who can eat up space. In the third round depending on if we traded down and picked up an extra 3rd round pick then you can go in a variety of positions OLB/WR/RB/QB Guys like OLB possible OLB Jason Worilds, WR Andre Roberts, and RB Joe Mcknight. But for My money Late in the 3rd if we have two picks or with my only 3rd round pick i would like to see Buffalo pick up QB John Skelton this guy has all the physical tools needed at the nfl level and can make all the throws (read up on this guy) to me he's a better nfl prospect than Tebow, Pike, Le fefevour hes got everything you need, and with the right tootaledge from Gailey he has all the makeing of a Flacco. In the 4th round i'd like to see buffalo address DE with someone like C.J Wilson. Thats as far as my draft goes anything further than 4 rounds is really stretching it.

Well i just had to vent, i'm tired of hearing all these crazy predictions and fantasy wants, im trying to be a little more realistic and build a solid core, im tired of lossing and want to build a winner the right way. Be glad to hear peoples opinion on this topic.

Good job being the first to post this Nostradamus.

It doesn't sound like you have a draft philosophy past throwing out popular names. Have you been watching college football all year scouting these guys? I don't know much more than what the people in the media have said about any of these guys and am guessing you know about the same. How do you know Bulaga isn't going to be a bust and we'll all be pissed that we'd didn't take the next Chris Johnson in CJ Spiller? It sounds like you read a mock draft somewhere you didn't like or someone's post here and decided to setup an account to be smarter than everyone else. That's poor form. I kind of hope they do draft a non-lineman at 9 now just so you can eat your liver.

To be honest, I think we should get some linemen in the draft this year as well, but I don't think I really want a potential LT (probably the 3rd rated guy) who might end up as a RT with the 9th pick. I'd rather have a difference maker. If that's a defensive or offensive linemen, then all the better. If not, we'll probably get some later in the draft. In fact we'll probably get more than one no matter what. I'd be fine with a pass rusher though.

  15. I don't think fix is the proper term to use. I think the hope is that Gailey can cover up his flaws and boost his confidence to allow him to do what he does well. If they ran the ball consistently, added some playmakers (figured out how to use Parish, if it can be done and maybe draft a "water-bug" type player) Trent would be fine. He's probably not going to be throwing bombs all day, so Gailey will have to find a way to allow him to make quick reads on short to mid range throws and let the receivers make plays after the catch. Lee can do it. Roscoe should be able to do it (though admittedly hasn't yet). Nelson should be able to do it. And add one more player from the draft at the RB position (see water-big player from above) and that has potential. Obviously the key is for Gailey to make it work, but I thin that might "fix" Trent.

  16. I agree with the general premise of this post. If the Bills don't think that any of the remaining OTs are legitimate

very good LT candidates, then they should pass and pick a better player at another position (Unless they really

want a RT, too - they have to know that Cornell Green is not a long-term answer).

Players that I'd consider at other positions include:

LB Sergio Kindle - top pass rushing 3-4 OLB candidate, no questions about effort, intensity, instincts or production

DE Derrick Morgan - Good effort, solid all around DE - only if Bills think he fits their 3-4 scheme

Brandon Grahm DE/OLB - Good effort and pass rushing ability, brings size to LB corp

Rolando McClain - I don't like him as much as others here, but there could be much worse choice than him.

Mike Iupati - G/RT - Love the nastiness, size, strength, but only a viable choice if they think he can play RT - know he isn't a good LT candidate.

Outside candidates for me would be:

Bruce Campbell - no knocks on effort, attitude or athletic ability. Concerned that he has only a year and a bit of starting experience in college.

DE Jason Pierre-Paul - freak athlete, same concerns as with Campbell.

Don't like Clausen or any of the other QBs, I think they are a waste of a draft choice this year as we'll be looking to replace them again in a few years.

Not a big fan of picking CJ Spiller - nothing against him, but he's a bit undersized and will likely need to be platooned

to be effective. Compared to Reggie Bush and I wouldn't spend the #9 pick this year to get a Reggie Bush clone.

I'd love them to get a good NT, but the only 1st round guy is Dan Williams and I think #9 is at least 10-15 spots too high for Williams.

I wouldn't mind seeing Morgan. Even if they think of him as a potential OLB or DE in the 3-4. He could probably add weight to play DE and drop a little to play OLB, so it might work out either way. I also like the idea of Iupati, but not at #9. If we traded down and took him, it could mean that we have the interior of the OL solidified for a long time with Wood at center. This would also go witht he smash mouth style of football Gailey purportedly likes to play.

  17. Do the Bills still use the #9 pick on one of them? If not what direction would the Bills go? They solidified their 3-4 defense through FA so it makes sense that Nix and Gailey (an offensive minded coach) would target offense with the pick. Maybe a home run hitter like Spiller? Or a #1 receiver in Dez Bryant? Or Jimmy Clausen if they believe he's a franchise QB?

I think it's wide open as far as who the pick could be. If they think those players are more RT than LT I think it would first depend on whether they thought either had a chance to be an LT and how much of a chance they gave them to be LTs. I'd have to think that if they were both thought to be solely or most probably RTs, you have to go in a different direction and take an LT prospect later in the draft - a player you thought was going to develop into an LT. It's easier to stomach a 3rd rounder or even second rounder ending up at RT than a 1st rounder.

  18. Stepped out of the Endzone against the titans in 06.....If he makes that catch We would have made the playoffs this decade and i bet we still have a QB :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

Just rewatched that game btw...how did we decide Trent was better than JP? Looking back at this game, its not even close whos better IMO

I was a JP fan during that time. It was weird how he seemed to have "it" in a few games and look completely lost in others. I remember that Jacksonville game we came back to win where he lead a great drive for the tying FG in the last minute of the game. He actually had a few games where he didn't play great, but was able to make things happen when it counted to bring us back or almost there. Those games for other QBs seem to propel them to the next level and some consistency, but somehow JP never made it past just showing flashes.

Watching Edwards over the last few years though, has left me with somewhat of the same impression. He had some games where he just looked like he got it, but was never able to take the next step. This is what makes me wonder if it was the fault of the coaching/etc. It also partly explains my curiosity of seeing what Edwards can do under Gailey as I feel like it will give me some closure on the question of coaching vs player. If Edwards starts and is back to form of the first 6 games of 08, then I think someone, somewhere should get JP out of the unemployment benefits line/grocery store outfit/UFL and give him another shot at playing in the NFL.
