  1. even the ESPN blogger thinks it may happen (IMO I've yet to see him post as optimistic WRT Buffalo)

    http://espn.go.com/blog/buffalo-bills/post/_/id/14070/bills-can-take-advantage-of-prime-midseason-schedule

In the meantime, here is a look at the golden opportunity that awaits this team between now and December:

Week 6 -- vs. New England

    Week 7 -- vs. Minnesota Vikings (2-3)

Week 8 -- at New York Jets (1-4)

    Week 9 -- bye

Week 10 -- vs. Kansas City Chiefs (2-3)

    Week 11 -- at Miami Dolphins (2-2)

    Week 12 -- vs. Jets (1-4)

    Week 13 -- vs. Cleveland Browns (2-3)

Ok... which one of you is Rodak and why are you stealing my thread topics for your crappy ESPN blog?

  2. New England, KC, and Miami are all tough games, although KC at home coming off the bye helps.

I'm hoping to see some progress from Orton as he settles in. Definitely some good signs and well ahead of where EJ is right now.

Right now I just want to see us get our 4th win as soon as possible before worrying about wins 5 and beyond, and not look past New England. But hitting the bye at even 5-3 would be great, and set us up for that manageable four game November schedule before our more difficult December.

Luckily, most of us here aren't on the roster, so we can feel free to look at, and beyond, the New England game.

Do I want the team to be looking at things like I am now? Absolutely not. But, because neither I nor anybody else here will have even the slightest impact on the results of the upcoming games (short of creating volume problems for visiting teams), it is a wonderful feeling to be able to have a conversation like this. It is okay for fans to look into the future and hazard guesses or show optimism that extends beyond the coming weekend. Enjoy it. When was the last time we could even think about such a thing?

  3. I still think it is a little early to fully assess the trade, being only 5 games in. I did, however , vote "Yes, he's worth it" because I am leaning heavily in that direction and think he will at the very least be the best receiver this team has seen since Eric Moulds, by far.

  4. All winnable. At Jersey usually tough but wow are they bad. NE is critical. Also, TNF games, even tho it is against our B*tch, are very tough to win for the road team and they will be desperate to beat us. Might even get 20k fans.

They should have an "Orange Out" at Sun Life stadium. Maybe then all of the empty seats could be mistaken for fans...

If we play to our capability, we can win each game. But, this being the NFL, and us not being dominating. I'm realistically expecting a 4-3 run.

I can see potential losses to NE* and KC, but who else in the next seven weeks do you see being as big a threat as those two to give us the third "L"?

  5. The next 7 games of the Bills season:

    10/12 - vs. NE*

    10/19 - vs. MIN

    10/26 - @ NJJ

    11/9 - vs. KC

    11/13 - @ MIA (Thursday Night)

    11/23 - vs. NJJ

    11/30 - vs. CLE

My outlook on the schedule has shifted significantly as the season has progressed, and looking at the next seven games, I do not see a game that we are not more than capable of winning. Could the Bills possibly be unbeaten in October and November? I am not making a guarantee or prediction in any way, but see it as a distinct possibility.

Which of these teams truly scare you? I don't see a game that makes me go, "Jeez... that's gonna be a tough one," until we play @ DEN on 12/7.

The Bills, if they play to their talent level, could exit November with a 10-2 record... hell, even if they fall to NE this weekend, 9-3 after 12 games looks like something good to me. They are then @ DEN (tough to beat Manning, especially at home), vs. GB (this team is tough, but who knows how they may be impacted playing in a raucous Ralph), @ OAK (the worst team in the league, nuff said), and @ NE* (could be a pivotal game with the division on the line).

Supposed the bills split the last 4, or even go 1-3... this season could be something spectacular, boys and girls.

    GO BILLS!

    - edited to correct for omitted asterisk on the last mention of NE*

  6.

I hope he is right. I don't agree this is the right time to bench EJ as I feel he showed enough in 14 games to warrant more time to develop, however, come Sunday I just want the Bills to win. I don't care who the QB is as much as I care about us just winning. So come Sunday, Orton will have my full support even though I don't have a lot of faith he will fare much better. This division is definitely up for grabs right now and we have enough talent to win it for sure. I am still not sure who is better suited to lead us there at QB as we have not seen Orton play yet, but if we can just stabilize the QB situation we can definitely win this division.

That being said, my biggest concern is still Hackett. He seems to force is offense on the players rather building one around the strengths of the players. Hopefully Orton fits his offense well because I have almost no faith Hackett will adjust or call a smart game plan. I hope he proves that wrong, but I just have not liked his poor adjustments, his situational play calls, or how he is using some of our playmakers like CJ. And I also hope Orton can get rid of the ball quick like Watkins spoke of earlier, because the All 22 tape is ugly on how bad we have been pass blocking.

I don't think we can really judge Hackett's game plans yet. I admit, the decision to throw as much as we did in Houston is a question mark, but judging by how many times receivers were running open and we're either missed or not even looked at, I think it could have been very successful had it been executed properly.

If we see better, or even just competent, execution from the quarterback position moving forward with Orton, Hackett's play calling and game planning will be much easier to judge.

He had his receivers in a position to succeed in a pass heavy game plan in Houston, but the limitations at the quarterback position sabotaged it from under center.

  7.

Seeing all of those receivers running free down the field and watching the QB dump it off to the RB or short outlet every time makes me feel sick to my stomach. The Houston game shouldn't have been close. Just make the throws to the open guys running wild down field and the points would have been piling up.

  8. EJ could also end up being the better QB over the course of the season too.

EJ may just be struggling in the dreaded sophomore slump! Tell me you never heard good players struggling in their sophomore season??? (yes it does happen).

I've always been one to want a player to have ample time to prove himself. Sorry 14 games doesn't cut it.

EJ can win, EJ just cannot win every game AND that is what a lot of the Anti EJ's want to see happen. Win every game. that my friend is unrealistic.

The very idea of a "sophomore slump" implies performance at a high level in the "freshman" campaign. Seeing as EJ showed very little in his 1st season, the concept of a sophomore slump cannot apply. EJ has not shown the ability to be a successful starting quarterback in the NFL. Perhaps with some grooming and studying from the bench and significant improvement in his mechanics without the pressure to win on his shoulders, he can be successful. I just don't see it happening or him developing sufficiently in live action at this time.
