  1. I would add that every day you hold out past a "day certain" that your value to the club for the coming year decreases, therefore you signing bonus decreases every day by "said amount".

    Agreed.

Also, time missed in the first season comes out of the whole contract yes but is also 100% guaranteed money, as it seems that is the key number now a days.

  2. I don't know if this has ever been done before, but I think it could be successful.

I think the Bills should write up the offer they have on the table for Maybin explaining how it is more than Orakpo and less than Raji, how it compares to the #11 pick last year (I'm assuming it is more). Then write up a press release that will go to the Associated Press for release at 7AM the next day if a contract is not signed. The press release outlines how fair the contract is and explain the performance bonuses etc. And talk how if Aaron Maybin and his agent think he is great then he will achieve these bonuses. Basically tell the media and the people of Buffalo a fair offer is on the table and it is Maybin who does not want to play, it is not the agent.

I think this puts n incredible amount of pressure on both the Agent but more importantly the player as it would be PR suicide if you don't sign and let the article come out.

Also, I might say in negotiations that when you sign a 5 year deal we expect all preseason games and 16 regular season games barring injury. So for every preseason game you miss during this holdout, your contract will be lowered, and the guaranteed money will be lowered proportionally.

  3. I like the thinking, but...

I don't see Mack being available @ 42. I like Unger more anyway, so I hope he'd be targeted (and available) @ 42.

Loadholt is truly a load, but he's got issues, such as his inability to play w/ good knee bend, does not have the quickest of feet, and has a tendency to jump offsides a bit (think of a much larger version of Rams OT Alex Barron, who has led the league in penalties). I'd pass on him 'til the later rounds.

I look at Loadholt as a G and a backup RT. Not enough initial quickness to play LT. I have read he plays well with natural knee bend. I think he could be a devastating guard with a year or two of coaching and adjusting to the position.

I am fine with Unger at 42 if Mack is not available. Either Or is fine with me.

  4. 2008

LT) Jason Peters: Off year but easily the best player on the OL and the team.

LG) Derrick Dockery: Average OG. Seemed to lack effort at times.

OC) Melvin Fowler/Duke Preston: Pushed around at will/Ineffective at all phases of position

RG) Brad Butler: Good player imo but frequently injured.

RT) Langston Walker: A little above average but gets beat around the edge a bit too often.

Is this potential line better than last years? (Heavy draft class for the o-line assuming a Peters trade)

    LT - Michael Oher

    LG - Duke Robinson

    C - Alex Mack

    RG - Butler/Hargartner

    RT - Langston Walker

  5. Trench Warfare is the name of the game here is my run at it

Pick 11 BJ Raji DT (possible drug test failure drops him to us)

Pick 21 Michael Oher OT (i have seen him as low at 27 in some mocks, my hope is he is there at 21)

Pick 42 Alex Mack C (good to go from day one)

    Pick 53 Duke Robinson OG

Pick 75 Phil Loadholt OT Oklahoma

I think this really puts the OL in great shape and adding Raji to the DT mix with Stroud all of our mediocre DE's a little less mediocre. What do you think? This is a draft to write home about in my opinion.

Bonus Pick Round 4 - David Bruton S form Notre Dame = starting safety sooner than later

  6. After that they need to draft a 'project' safety. Maybe a guy from a smaller school with good abilities. Or a guy that played one year in a major program and showed he has ball skills and potential.

David Bruton if available in the 4th would be a great pick. He ran the best among Safeties at the combine, he is a ballhawk who causes turnovers and can hit. Exceptional special teams player as well.

  7. I am a firm believer that championships are more and more won on the lines. So I put together my first day draft of lineman only for the Bills. I think this could greatly improve them and give them solid trench play for 5+ years. First of all i don't think the Peters deal will get worked out, therefore he is gone to Philly for a first and 3rd, although I would absolutely love a 1st and 2nd as I see a tremendous amount of quality players available in the 2nd round. So the mock goes like this. We trade both of the round 3 picks our own and the one acquired in the Peters trade to get back into the 2nd.

Pick 11 BJ Raji DT (possible drug test failure drops him to us)

Pick 21 Michael Oher OT (i have seen him as low at 27 in some mocks, my hope is he is there at 21)

Pick 42 Alex Mack C (good to go from day one)

2nd Rd #2 Duke Robinson OG

I think this really puts the OL in great shape and adding Raji to the DT mix with Stroud all of our mediocre DE's a little less mediocre. What do you think?

  8. It is unlikely that anyone other than the first round pick will play/contribute much anyway in year #1. With that in mind, after we get (please, God!) Kelsay's replacement @ #11, I'd go "best available".

I think a 2nd round pick will definately contribute. If Alex Mack is there in the 2nd there is no way he is not our day one starter.

  9. I am really undecided on what I would like to see the Bills do with the #11 pick. If BJ Raji is there I saw take him. We are still feeling the pass on Ngata, this could be a chance to makeup for that and give us 2 dominant DT's. His stock seems to be rising. So i doubt he will be there. Everette Brown stock seems to be falling. I don't like Maybin personally. Maybe we could trade down.

In the 2nd round I would love to see Alex Mack or Robert Ayers. I am almost certain that Mack won't it to us. But Ayers might be, hopefully.

Would anyone be upset if we could get Raji and Ayers with our first 2 picks? I think that is my dream 1-2 combo for this April. However, It doesn't address our needs at Tight End or OLB.

I really like Phil Loadholt Offensive Tackle out of Oklahoma with our 3rd rounder, again not addressing our needs, but I more and more am moving toward building the lines equal building championships.

I would like David Brutton Safety from Notre Dame. Tested well for speed. I have seem him play and he closes and is a ball hawk, he causes turnovers and can hit. Great kick coverage guy. I think he could develop into a good safety, or he could bulk up he has a large frame and could be an good OLB. Any thoughts on that?

  10. Key will be if the BIlls O-line can make some running lanes, a few steady drives before half are crucial. Stay in the game and make adjustments at halftime.

Or they could just throw it deep.

P.S. Evans and Losman have always had good chemistry together. Like Zack Morris and Kelly Kapowski.
