  1. I don't love him, just thinking of a way to improve the line without investing 7 or 8m on a top free agent. I think he would be an upgrade over Urbik or Pears and would be comparable in cost. It's the offseason, just throwing stuff out there to discuss until we have some actual news to talk about

I get the feeling, but at this point hes probably not an upgrade over urbik and definitely not worth any baggage. It looks like the entire league agrees.

  2. He did not really have a great season, but due to injuries and playoff QB's he was just named as a replacement for Aaron Rodgers. This made me wonder, not that he was good enough, but what if Orton had been named as a replacement player. Would he still have been eligible, willing to play after he filed his retirement papers?

They are in different conferences, but your point remains the same. Probowl is ridiculous as is. Should just be a list and not a game.

  3. I used to hate Parker but he does exactly what his clients pay for. I hate some of his tactics but football players should get every penny they can. It's funny how fans take the side of billionaires vs. millionaires. The NFL is a shady business.

And if EJ becomes a franchise qb, it really won't matter who his agent is. He will get paid.

Very true. I love the bills because they represent Buffalo, but I hate the NFL as a business. They nickle and dime you to death.

I am a season ticket holder who has to drive 5-6 hours to the games. I won't make that ride for preseason and I have no way to watch the games I pay for. Adding insult to injury the tickets are worthless so you can't sell them..

I'd like to watch them online but NFL.com wants to charge me... Wtf if I'm a ticket holder give me that for free!

  4. I don't see why people are so adverse to signing Hughes at that price. The Bills aren't paying a franchise QB and are unlikely to do so in the next 3-4 years. Because they aren't they can afford to pay these defensive guys. They just have to be smart about how they do it. Front load the contract and pay the man.

Pretty much what I expect them to do. If they find a QB its probably going to be a year or 2 until you pay him. Keep the strength of the team together and worry about the QB when/if it happens.

The number seems high but pass rushers are a premium position.

Frontloading makes no difference now adays. Any money you don't spend today rolls over into tomorrow.

I honestly don't have a perfect grasp on how the cap works. Is cap hit not tied to guaranteed money?

  5. Wha? The scouting department was vastly expanded and revamped when Brandon was GM. Since then, the drafts and the pro signings have been stellar. Or do you think guys like Woods & Alonso, Hughes & Spikes just showed up on their own?

Nix did the revamping after he took over for Brandon. Bringing in whaley was part of that revamp.

  6. Point 7 is somewhat interesting, in the context you provide.

Of course, it suggests that either (a) marrone has the owner's ear or, (b) marrone is trying to get the owner's ear, and either way, (c ) Marrone is running and end-run around Whaley.

In a normal chain of command, Marrone's first and only call should be directly to Whaley. Because its not a coaching emergency, its an organizational emergency. Its not like Orton broke a leg right before the next game. Calling, texting, informing, etc. is Not a coach's job.

    ---

The thought of Whaley being ousted makes me sick. Honestly, he kind of seems like a guy who believes in Merit over politics and is staying above the fray. I like Marrone a little less now (mostly because I dont like politicking)

That stood out to me as well.

Another point that I vaguely remember. Marrone said something about himself, Whaley and Russ will have a discussion about a personnel decision..but I thought russ was out of that now?

Hummm. Seems like just the player we saw this year--a 21 year old rookie who was overwhelmed by the big stage.

BTW, the operative phase here is 21-year old.

Seems to me we have a pro bowl DT who fit that description a few years ago...one who many TSW pundits labled a 'bust' after his second year (let alone his first).

How'd those pronostications work out, fellas?

These are really young guys who are making a major jump. We all have too many conclusions to their outcome, way too soon.

  8. Marrone is clearly angling for something, probably more money and who knows what else. The opt out in Marrone's contract was leaked on purpose. If this is true, forget about Hackett getting fired. If Marrone really has the leverage, he will not have to make any changes to his staff unless he wants to, and the only member of the front office in real danger is Whaley. Marrone's stock is up and Whaley's is down. Whether this is fair, it is difficult to say.

    Very short term leverage
