  1. I know there was much talk of a repeat of 2007 that ultimately came to fruition, but before we delve deeper into dispair I want everyone to imagine the following scenario:

Suppose the Monday after we beat the Pats and were all floating on cloud 9, you found out that there had been a car accident and we would be without the services of Fred Jackson, Kyle Williams, Wood, Bell, and Hairston for several weeks, if not the whole season, would you have expected the winning trend to continue? Or would you maybe think that KEY injuries had just cost us what might have been a great season?

Remember, this is after we already endured and overcame the losses of McGee, Easley, Parrish, and Merriman for the season, D. Jones for much of it, and Stevie and Troup playing through significant injuries.

I know injuries are part of the game. They're the part that makes good teams lose. We're closer than a lot of us think. Next year should be fun.*

    * Assumes we resign SJ

The Bills need a strong draft, some key FA signings, a good defensive philosophy, and receivers who can freakin' hold on to catchable balls. I EXPECT a winning record next year.

  2. I'm very underwhelmed by this year's potential class, lots of good names there, but very few great. I would only put Haley and (I guess) Parcells above Andre, and then there is a pretty big gap. So, I think this is his year.

I think Parcells is a shoo-in. Brown has better stats than Andre, but given a choice between the 3 receivers on the ballet this year, Andre Reed is the guy I would want on my team. The only guy from his era that I would have taken over Reed is Jerry Rice.

  3. Everything has a cycle. We will be on top again sometime. Maybe 20 years from now. But it will happen.

I hope it doesn't go that long - I'd like to see the Bills at a playoff game again before I'm too old to drive myself to the games! It's been 15 years since the Bills hosted a playoff game! (and 16 years since they WON a playoff game!)

  4. out, going nowhere, running for the bus, etc, small market team. But NYC large market team, 7 million plus, do not have a sellout for their home playoff game per this mornings new york post, WOW.

Not to mention that the Atlanta metro area in home to 5.2 million people. You would think that at least a few thousand would make the trip to NY to see their team play - except that between plane tix, game tix, hotel, etc - it's probably a $2500.00 weekend for a couple. . .

  5. Part of the reason I hate the NFL right now, I was laid off from teaching in Georgia 2.5 years ago, and have been subbing and getting my masters since. So, I have been making ~$10,000/yr while at this point working 3 jobs. I know I am not the typical demographic for who the NFL would ever try to attract at this point and time, but I couldn't even afford to take off work at job #3 this year to watch a Bills game live. With the NFL's greed, it is no wonder why my generation is resorting to downloading torrents of the blacked out games.

Prices have gotten absolutely ridiculous. I haven't gone to see a Bills game in a few years now; last time I had very good seats and they were $35 a piece - reasonable. The only tickets I would pay $400 for would be a Superbowl, and the Bills would have to be in it!

  6. The news isn't that they are taking him, I think the news is that there is a good chance Peyton is on his way out.

Giving the fact he has had 3 NECK surgeries in the past 2 years, I would not be shocked if Peyton retires in the off-season, and I don't think he owes the Colts anything. He will be 36 years old, he has taken the Colts to the SB twice, and has given them 13 great seasons of football. Assuming Andrew Luck lives up to the hype, the Colts are very fortunate that fate somehow smiled on them again and delivered another franchise QB to their doorstep.

The 2-14 record this year also shows just how much the Colts have relied on Manning over the past few years.

I agree with Schef coaches need more time to build for the long term. Give your coach a chance.

I'm ok with a 4-year window of opportunity. At the end of a 4-year rebuilding project, a team should have a double-digit (10-6 or better) winning record, and SHOULD be in the playoffs. As we have seen in the past however, even an 11-5 record does not guarantee a playoff appearance.

I hope that the Bills are at least a 9-7 team next year. This is an important off-season. Need to find some new starters, and build depth at key positions.

  8. So it's been 11 years ssince Andre Reed retired. He's been referred to as "Future Hall of Famer" since the mid 90's. Here we are many years later and he still isn't in.

My thoughts: Andre was one of the best receivers of his era, but he will always be over-shadowed by Jerry Rice. There were also a few other terrific receivers in the same timeframe; some with better stats. I think if the Bills had won SB XXV and XXVIII, he would already be in.

    Comments?

  9. The media isn't giving Denver any chance this week and by how their offense mainly Tebow has been playing it's hard to think otherwise, but I think this game will be a tight game with Denver pulling it out in the end. I think Denver's D matches up well to Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh has struggled offensively at times throughout the season putting up points. I think the Denver's defense will have a point to prove and can keep them in this game with the momentum changing with some special teams or a long run by McGahee to spring open the game in the 4th and win by a field goal!

I wouldn't be surprised if this is a very boring game to watch.

I think the Steelers win in a rout.
