  1. Honestly, what were people expecting out of this season?

I wrote it off in training camp. All I wanted to do was watch the games on Sunday and pray the Bills made it entertaining. After 3+ years of Jauron putting me to sleep with his boring arse "Play not to lose" mentality and Captain Checkdown and his 2 yard outs, I really enjoy what the Bills are doing this year. They've taken teams like KC, Baltimore and Pitts to the limit and now teams don't look at the Bills and this "easy W". It's a far cry from when teams would actually LAUGH at Jauron's offense.

I'm seeing a lot of parallels to the 86 and 87 seasons. This team is trying to purge itself of its losing culture. It's going to take some time. Yes, I know it's been 10 years of futility but can you honestly say you felt good about this team at any point during the last 5 years like you do now?

Yes– after they beat the Chargers at home to go to 5-1 two years ago. That's why it's hard for me to be confident in any Bills team until they clinch that playoff spot. I hope you are right, and I do feel good about the direction of this team, but I've gotten confident before and seen it all crumble.

  2. andrewinla... you seriously just need to stop.

when that many people disagree with you, it usually means you're wrong.

which you are, only because of the fact you arent taking the opposing defense into consideration.

and i believe the original post said "not that far off."

Hey davey, thanks for the tip, but its a message board, so I'm not going to stop and I'm going to say what I think, regardless of how many people disagree with me. I am taking the opposing D into consideration, and I stick to my point that the offense was not impressive today. I disagree with Joe that they are "not that far off," they still seem a ways away to me.

  3. Say hi to Norman Einstein for me there, Andy.

I'm just shocked anyone can come away from today's game saying, wow, our offense is good! I'm happy with what we've got and what we're doing! when Fitz had a 50% completion percentage, Evans and Johnson shat this game away, 74 yards total rushing, 2 turnovers, and 16 points in 4 1/2 quarters. I would never call that a good offense.

  4. Don't forget two turnovers in the redzone and a dropped TD pass. The second half performance SHOULD have gotten the win. There was some very poor WR play from Lee and Stevie today.

Yeah, and those WR's are part of the offense. Finishing drives and not making turnovers is part of being a good offense.

  5. Hey, I feel you. He's not Tom Brady/Peyton Manning elite level. But I'd like to think that a somewhat adequate defense would do wonders for Fitzpatrick. No, the defense didn't throw those picks, but perhaps Fitz doesn't need to take those kind of chances with a less than porous D?

Maybe he Derek Andersons next year or finishes this year poorly; I don't know. But it does seem to be a progression towards improvement that he can hopefully carry into a really tough game next week.

Maybe you're right... I'm not trying to be strident, I know we're all Bills fans here, I'm just frustrated with the mediocrity is all, and I fear constantly being in the 5-11 to 9-7 zone is doing more harm than good for the long term future.

Maybe it's because I was at that Jets game that I can't shake this negative attitude.

But Fitz has certainly progressed, and showed a lot to come back from his awful first half today, that's for sure. I hope he continues to win and progress, and who knows, maybe he just needed the right situation to come into his own. He's only 27, after all. Maybe you're right.

  6. I always get really curious when I hear this rationale. If what Fitz has been doing isn't indicative of being "the guy", then what does "the guy" look like? Does "the guy" keep his team in every game? Does "the guy" understand his offensive personnel and (generally) make smart decisions? Does "the guy" have energy and bring excitement to the team?

As of right now, Fitzpatrick looks the part of "the guy". I'll let time prove how true that is.

He's kept us in every game? How bout that Jets game? How about the end of regulation in Kansas City? How about the backbreaking pick in the New England game? I'm not saying "the guy" has to be perfect, but c'mon, I think we're looking far too much into this comeback today. Don't get me wrong, I like Fitz, I like him a lot better than Trent, but he has not shown enough to be considered the future at QB.

  7. You're right to hope you're wrong, probably because you are wrong.

Dick didn't know how to win, he knew how to "not lose" which is different than winning.

Teams learn what it takes to win. They're learning. The late 80s Bills learned how to win and develop a winning attitude that led to the early 90s Bills.

I'm wrong? That's a fact? I wish I still had your optimism, but I don't know how you can see this team as any different than the last 10 or so teams we've had. They're still so far away from really contending.

  8. Yeah, he didn't give us too much of a chance in that Baltimore beatdown.

Total straw-man, by the way. No one's saying we have a "good" team right now (just watch the defense play for evidence of that). Rather, we have a developing team with lots of positive signs, especially on offense. We might be 3 years away from getting back to relevance, but maybe not even that long if the team continues to show this type of resiliency and effort. And while the record doesn't indicate it, this team has 10x more heart at 2-8 than those Dick Jauron teams ever had. Hopefully that will lead to more wins in the future.

How many times have you said that to yourself over the last decade? We all said Jauron's teams were SO much better than Mularkey's, more heart, more exciting, learning how to win, blah blah blah. Enough. We've been "3 years away" since 2001. Fitz is not the guy. I hope I'm wrong, but I really doubt it.

  9. I think this team is already in the process of turning it around. It started with ditching Dick and took a big step forward with the release of Trent. They are now learning to play hard and win. Granted they have beaten two bad teams, but you have to start somewhere. Winning will pay off bigger dividends than any one particular player in the draft. While there may be one terrific player they miss out on, there is going to be more than one terrific player in the draft, particularly early in the first round.

They almost certainly aren't going to win the SB next year in any event. But they can be a solid competitive team IF they learn to win. And if the FO can figure out who to keep and who needs to go. That determination is best made when the team plays to win, and when it wins.

I'd agree with you except that I've probably said that to myself 5 out of the last 10 years. Enough spinning our wheels. We aren't turning **** around with the personnel we have. I just don't believe in the "learning how to win" bull **** anymore. I hope I'm wrong this time, but this past decade leads me to believe I'm not.

  10. The mantra of Bills fans: "trade down! trade down! trade down!"

Yet, everyone seems to forget that it takes two to make a trade.

Exactly– especially when it comes to the first pick in the draft. The only way someone would trade up to get it is if there were a definitive sure-thing sitting at #1– in which case the Bills should draft him. The money being shelled out for top-5 draft picks is so ridiculous now that teams consider it somewhat of a curse. There was a whole article about it in Sports Illustrated a few weeks ago.

  11.

There is no racism in a true free-market, capitalist society because when you want to be the best and make the most money, you hire the best people ... regardless of color, race or religion.

Socialism fosters racism, capitalism does away with it.

That's great in theory, but people don't make decisions based entirely on economic motivations. Why do we need employment discrimination laws, for example, if purely economic reasons will do away with racism/sexism/whatever-ism?

  12. Just wondering when the owner said that.... do you have a link or quote? Seriously this isn't about the last 10 years it's about today and what's happening right now. are they turning the page? I don't know but your take is stupid and really the problem with most of the crap that's put out here. I'm glad you are a "Bills vet" but I would say most of us here are as well. My question is how come your stupid effing opinion actually matters and some other guy that looks at it a different way is so wrong? Just shut up an be a fan or decide not to. You are entitled to your opinion but just because someone says something different doesn't mean they are acting with "audacity". That would be like me calling you an idiot because of your opinion. You are entitled to it... just don't jam everybody else because they don't see it your way. Yes, I am a season ticket holder too so don't pull that ridiculous BS card on me when you reply. In fact just shut up and that would be great. it was a tough loss and most Bills fans would rather not deal with your selective crap.

"It's going to take another three years until we turn this thing around."

  13. Fitz just continues to fail in the clutch. He is breaking our hearts with spirited play, only to let us down when the game is on the line..........how depressing.

Yup– he plays great right up until you need him to make just one more play... and then he tanks it. Can't wait to see who our 1st Rd. QB pick is.
