Personally I'd love for Keith Bulluck to be in a Buf uni. With the caveat his knee checks out. He would be a great leader in the locker room and on the field. Dude, is a beast. C

Look I'm not a professional talent evaluator. But even a blind beaver can see that this guy is not an upgrade over what we do or don't have. The idea isn't to "just do something". The point is to do something that will make us better as a team. Instead we pay this guy $3M to make up numbers at the position when it's pretty apparent we can get the same production from someone off the street. I'd take my chances with a rookie and whatever we get closer to training camp. C

I wasn't very clear. Sorry. I'm indifferent to Incognito not being re-signed. Though he did have a nice nasty streak. My main concern is if we are really "improving" the OL with this signing, why are we picking someone who has an even worse track record on false start penalties (though no where as many yards) and not much success? Shouldn't we be looking to sign better talent? C

The guy had more penalties/less yards that Incognito last year. How exactly have we improved with this signing? http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/i...ssues-on-o-line We paid 3M for him. Holy smokes. Someones smoking the good stuff in our FO. C

I'm all for signing/looking at 2nd tier players. Hell, even 3rd tier dudes. But right now we're dredging pits. If this is how much our "scouting" has improved, it doesn't bode well. C

My take on free agency....or lack there of
cale replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know. It is what it is. I think Ralph is just being the (senile) business man. He's afraid that things are gonna blow up all to hell in 2011 and is tightening the purse strings worse than usual. As for the moves, I think some of the offensive staff hires are real head scratchers. But again, I think with the exception of Whaley (who was hungry to make his own mark in the league), the backroom rep of the franchise as it currently stands has hurt the hiring potential per staff. In all the hires that we got, the overriding factor was the desire of the coaches to work with Gailey. I don't think it's any accident that they're mostly from the college ranks. If we get an above average to good showing from our offense with average talent, he'll become the coach du jour again to work for. And maybe that will bode well for the rep of the franchise. C -

John I love your posts. This is also a keeper. The NFL is a pretty tight fraternity. Players and FO personnel must know more than what they are not telling. All this makes me think, we haven't hit rock bottom yet. I think the beginning of the dark ages at OBD wasn't the MCM, but how Ralph went after Wade for his contract money. I think the perception was that Wilson then checked into Al Davis territory. It's one thing to be an undesirable location geographically speaking and it's one thing to be cheap. But to be both, I think just killed us. Plus we also seemed to work really hard at getting clubhouse leaders kicked to the curb and bringing in "Yes" men. Perception is reality. But that can change in the blink of an eye. Just ask the Saints. The difference was that they hired a GM with vision and a smart Coach with b*lls. I just hope our GM/Coach combo will come close. C -
Jim Schwartz and the Lions are dominating Free Agency

How much of that is guaranteed? C -
I don't know. He is an almost bust. But on the other hand - he is one big MF. http://bit.ly/dmz5RN Wouldn't mind a good look at Fargas, if we trade Lynch. Huggy Bear Jr. will take care of ya. C

I really enjoy reading Peter King's MMQB and sundry articles just because I enjoy his writing style. It's just really entertaining. But I've come to realize that when it comes to legit sports info and news he is so far off course, that he's practically on a different planet. My friend who is a columnist for USA Today says that the sportswriters community is thinking that King is "slowing down." He also said that the guy that everyone respects right now and who has good sources is Jay Glazer from FOX. Interesting. C

Oh piddiddle...I'm not deciding for them one way or another. It's your cousins' and uncle's right to be offended or not offended. Every day there are things I see that may be offensive or not offensive to me. Conversely there may be things I do that may be offensive to others, even though I may not think so. But if I am to be considerate human being, I listen to why something may offend someone and then evaluate if it makes sense. If the change that would make their sensitivity seems reasonable and doesn't impinge on my values, why not change? The National Congress of American Indians is on record as finding the Redskins name offensive. The court decision was overturned only on appeals in DC District Court. Surely the Washington team can extend that consideration that would reflect what they are trying to portray in a better light. C

Just pulled this up on Google. Apparently the Supreme Court won't even hear the argument. Nice. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Justice/2009/...02s07-usju.html

There were actually civil actions. Thrown out on a technicality of "waiting too long" PTO found in favor of Native Americans. Thrown out on a technicality of "waiting too long." WTH? They've asked the Supreme Court to look at the case: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/09/15/...in5313396.shtml As for comparing this situation with the Buffalo Bills name, it simply isn't the same thing. The name doesn't offend a race of people. It's a hypothetical. And when and if it does come up, we can address it. To pull out all these ridiculous what if scenarios, is simply a cop out. And if it did for some reason offend a group of people for a reason that is cogent and intelligent, then why not change it? As for giving money and volunteering, that is absolutely a great thing to do. But it has to be in sync with giving them their due respect. Giving cash and "helping" them whilst simultaneously calling a team a name that is used to denigrate them is just disingenuous. C
-
LOL I don't know how it's "spending millions of dollars" and a "whining slave to political correctness" to give people who have been here longer than anybody else their due respect. Change your letterhead. Change the emblem on your stadium. And whatever new shirts carry the new logo and name (Like the Warriors by the way - also appropriate that DC is the seat of govt. And respects both the Native Americans and the Army). It's not like you're gonna go back and reimburse fans for stuff they've already bought. If anything it's a revenue booster. Just a complete myth because some people think it's "tradition." Baloney! ç

LOL. I don't understand why a sports franchise insists on using a derogatory name for their team. It's just dumb ass. Like the world would fall apart if they changed their name. Just goes to show that power, money buys you a lot of position. C

which tennessee player will the bills pick?
cale replied to tennesseeboy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dan Williams would be a very good pick IMHO. -
With you on the offense and the DeHaven hire Lori. I also wish we could somehow transition into a 3-4 instead of whole sale changes. But we'll see what the strategy is going forward. BTW, the whole Kurt/Khan/Kwan thing is deadly funny. After all, "Revenge is a dish best served cold" ;-)
-
I have no problem with someone calling my OP out on some kind of known fact. Lori listed what the rankings of the Detroit ST were the past year. Fair enough. At least that's based on fact. DeHaven might have given his approval and hired Kwan himself or Kwan might have been hired by Gailey who is assembling the staff for all his units. Per the hiring of the defensive assistants prior to Edwards. April was a well respected ST coach and assistant coach in the league prior to his hire. He had a strong record and I think the insiders knew what the real issues were in STL. Namely Martz. But Kwan? C'mon. In his own words he fell short: http://detnews.com/article/20100108/SPORTS...nator-Stan-Kwan I'm with Buffalo Rally Monkey, you call into question any moves the organization makes and all of a sudden you're some kind of idiot. Cause obviously OBD knows so much better. So far it hasn't showed up on the field. C
-
Yeah, that's what I'm going to do. I just disagreed with the hiring of a staff member who's been on one of the leagues worst teams in 12 seasons. Take a look at the rankings at Dallas Morning News. They've regressed every year in the last 4 years. The last time they were in top 5 was 2004. Just because I disagree with the hiring of a coach who has not distinguished himself recently, does not make me a heretic. I could throw darts on a wall and have better success than what the franchise has done recently. So get the hell off your high horse. Any of the top 10 teams in the league probably has an assistant with better skills, ability and a track record that would give his left nut to work with DeHaven. That's not the issue. The issue is why did we hire a loser, when we have one of the most successful ST teams in the league? BTW the teams actually did better under their previous coaches in Detroit prior to 2006. And have some talent in their special teams squad. If you had bothered to read the article I linked, you would know that. But you're obviously too busy being a homer to evaluate a staff hiring objectively based on recent results and performance. Thanks very much, C

Good Lord we hired the worst ST coach in the league as an assistant? What the local junior JV ST coach wasn't available? http://www.lionsgab.com/2009/11/01/stan-kw...o-lose-his-job/

I don't know I think Brohm may be a good interim option. Unless this staff can resurrect him to greatness. I don't understand why no one is giving Hamdan a good long look. The guy is a vet. Has a good arm. And seems to have a presence about him.
-
Yeah, I like the Whaley hire. He's the GM in waiting too when Nix retires anytime now. Whaley is also the guy who forwarded porn that got Zeirlein in trouble. At least it won't be boring at OBD. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07143/788231-66.stm C
