  1. Denver converted DE Elvis Dumervil into a LB and Dumervil has 12 sacks so far. Maybe the next coach will do something different with Maybin next year?

I was going to point out the same thing and Dumervil is only 5'11 248 lbs. He was sure looking like a bust before Denver switched over to a 3-4 and now is having a career year. Hopefully we make the switch next year which will allow us to better compete with the teams in our division.

  2. And ESPN is reporting that Cowher declined.

Cowher contacted, but declines a meeting

Report states that he doesn't want to interview at this time and wants to wait till until after the season. Espn is trying to spin story like Cowher has no interest whatsoever in coaching the Bills. Makes sense that Cowher would want to wait and see what is available at the end of the year.

The Bills should not be in a rush to hire a name coach anyway. They need to get it right this time and hire the right person. I don't care how big or small the name is bring in everybody and don't screw it up.

  3. Thought it might be a good time to give the coaching carousel a spin. Here are the teams I expect to have vacancies after this season, in descending order of the most desirable job / most money to spend:

    Washington - Bill Cowher

    Dallas - Mike Shanahan

    Chicago - ____________

Seattle (GM only) - Mike Holmgren

    Carolina - ____________

    Cleveland - Marty Schottenheimer

    Jacksonville - Jon Gruden

    Buffalo - ______________

    Oakland - _____________

The rest of the teams that are bad already have first year young coaches he will be given a chance. I also expect several veteran coaches to survive, as one bad season will not deter the stable ownership at most of those teams (Fisher, Coughlin)

The remaining 4 spots can be filled with a combination of coordinators, Brian Billick, and the fired coaches worth re-hiring (Lovie Smith, maybe Del Rio)

Care to fill in the blanks? I had a hard time giving Billick to the Bills, as I would really prefer Schottenheimer, but I think Cleveland might reach into their past, and if this was a draft on desirable teams for a coach to go to, we'd only be picking ahead of the Raiders.

Cowher would never go to the Skins he is too smart to get caught up in Snyder's mess. i think that both Washington and Oakland are the worst coaching positions potentially available due to their meddlesome owners.

  4. I think it was the right call, the defense had finally stopped them. I had very little confidence that they could stop them if the Titans got a second chance no matter how far back they would have been.

Yes they gave up the FG, but it was a 51 yarder, not exactly a chip shot.

Normally I would agree but Bironas almost made a 60 yarder before the half and a 50 yd FG is hardly outside his range. Jauron should have accepted the penalty.

  5. http://chat.nfl.com/front/archived_chat/561

Mayock's response to a fan on how good a player Wood would be and comment on Levitre. I have always respected Mike's opinion on college players coming into the NFL.

"Wood was my favorite center in the country last year coming out of Louisville. The Bills have turned him into a guard and done a tremendous job. I definitely think he has pro bowl potential. but don't forget about his teammate Andy Levitre, the second round pick who was a left tackle in college and the Bills kicked him inside to guard. The Bills probably have the best pair of young guards in the NFL."

  6. What has Quinn done in this league to show that he is a better option for us at this point than Trent. Trent is probably the best QB to come out of the '07 Draft class which I know isn't saying much. It doesn't really matter who the QB is unless we fix the O-line first. A scrambling QB would probably be the best option and I wouldn't mind Tebow in the 2nd round to compete with Trent next year.

  7. The logical and correct choice to be cut would be Parrish. However, I think this FO still believe he has some value on the trade market and will look to move him in the offseason. My guess it is going to be Mcyintyre who got injured and has done a decent job on special teams this year. They can IR him and open up a spot for Hardy.

  8. Edwards is going through his reads too quickly before guys have a chance to get open. As a result he resorts to dumping the ball off to the RBs and TEs. His footwork in the pocket is poor as well and I believe most of Trent's issues is lack of confidence in his O-line. If I was AVP I would have Trent look first to see where the rush is coming from after hiking the ball and then start going through his reads.

That extra few seconds could allow the WRs to get open down the field. I don't understand what has happened to the intermediate passing game. Everything is either a dump off or bomb down the field. If they can become more successful in the 10-20 yd range they can start to turn things around on offense.

  9. Cut Parrish this organization needs to make a statement. There is no way this guy should be starting ahead of Steve Johnson. I think we need to hit rock bottom before we can compete again. The O-line performance was abysmal. We already started the overhaul this year and we should finish it by drafting 2 starting tackles next year as the depth on this team is a joke.

  10. No but the more I watch the crimson tide the more I want them to draft Terrence Cody. Cody and Stroud lined up at dt for the next couple of years would be a real nice way to boost the defense.

Completely agree on Terrence Cody we could then switch to a 3-4 defense. Cody in the middle, stroud and williams on the outside. I mean Denver went from being the worst defense in the league last year to one of the best this year.

  11. I don't think we should play the same game with Trent like we did with JP. People were saying the same thing about Holcomb when JP was playing. Give Trent the entire year let him sink or swim on his own. In the offseason decide if he is the Franchise QB and if the answer is No then draft another QB. I am sick of retreads coming here and not producing. Draft someone to challenge Trent in the offseason and let the best man win.

  12. Heck, at this point, considering his total lack of worth thus far this season, I wouldn't be too upset if they outright released him if they couldn't get something for him in a trade. As for McKelvin, maybe sometime for him to sit awhile may not be such a bad thing. He's been a week point through the first three games -- and when Florence came in the defense as a whole got better.

Completely agree McKelvin was getting burned frequently which was to be expected. However, I did like how Florence stepped in and did a solid job with little practice time.
