  1. If it makes sense for the team and they can get something in return for Diggs. I would seriously entertain moving him. I think this iteration of the Bills competing for a SuperBowl is over and the window has closed.

I would be looking at mini rebuild if I was Beane and start cutting the fat in order to set us up for the next run. So I would go with youth movement next year while still trying to compete and taking our lumps.

I haven't seen or heard anything yet.  I'm curious as to how McD envisions this

Have to imagine there will be a transition to that eventually not sure if it will be this year or not. However, I can't imagine taking a promotion and not eventually being able to run defense how you want. Otherwise he would have been better off trying to get job elsewhere.

  3. Brady didn’t have the personnel to be explosive this season so will be interesting to see how the receiver room looks like next year. However, if he can at least give us the threat of a running game while fixing the passing offense they should be in decent shape on that side of the ball.

I sure wish we would’ve hired Ben Johnson as our HC and kept Babich as DC.

i like McD and I’m fine with retaining him, but I’d rather have Ben Johnson leading our offense

You hope Johnson passes on the Commander’s job. McDermott should in no way be safe next year if he continues to come up short in the post season.

A lifetime to make that throw?  Me thinks you exaggerate a bit here.

It's actually insane the way Bills fans are analyzing this one play.  It's obvious what happened:  Allen choose to go for the TD hitting an open Shakir and missed the throw because the pass rusher pushed the tackle into him.  An for this we've had a ten page thread.  Nitpicking Allen seems to be a favorite activity for some Bills fans.

It is more the play call, the time left on the clock and the down and distance. Diggs was never even looked at so appears he was being used as decoy to draw coverage. So I don’t have issue with Josh throwing to his primary read. I have bigger issue with Brady calling it at that spot. If they attempted that on first down no one would have cared. However, that entire series of play calls cost team the game there. On both 2nd/3rd and long they should have been scheming someone underneath to get open close to that first down marker to get another set of downs.

If it was close enough going for it on 4th. I rather put ball in my best player’s hand in Allen and losing versus going for a FG if KC had timeouts and enough time on the clock to drive back down for winning FG. The only way I was settling for FG in that situation if it was 4th and long or we had drained enough time off the clock that odds were in our favor that OT was likely.

I'm more selfish than that. I want Mahomes to win.

If the Ravens KO the Chiefs & advance to the Super Bowl, that'll just make the narrative against Josh even stronger. "Every other elite QB in the AFC accomplished more & made a Super Bowl!"

Burrow & Lamar both made more AFCCGs, both beat the Chiefs in the playoffs, both made a SB, and one even has an MVP (possibly 2). If Mahomes KO's Lamar, that drops his record to 2-4 in the postseason, and it'll still give Josh some breathing room.

Then rat face gets embarrassed in the Super Bowl. I could live with that. Mahomes winning another Super Bowl and KC becomes a dynasty.

What surprised me the most was how effectively the Chiefs loaded up the box and stopped our running game, on first down especially. We stopped getting 7 to 8 yards on first down and instead got 1-2 yards. The easy answer would seem to have been to throw the ball more, but given :

    a) the fact we needed to control the clock to protect our defense

    b) Our receiving corps was inconsistent with drops

    c) we had , as usual, a terrible screen game

that we were going to keep running into 9 and 10 man boxes. Hindsight is 20/20, but Brady and McDermott should've adjusted to the fact the Oline was increasingly losing battles as the game wore on. Even the 4th and short plays were getting less push and Josh was barely making 1st downs that he easily made in the 1st half.

They dared us to pass, and we proved that while we are a much improved running team, we are not a team that can run effectively when the D commits to taking away your running game.

I don’t understand why we don’t use Cook more on screens and dump offs as he is clearly our best player in space. Yet we can throw a million WR screens that are painful to watch.

It was the right play period! I keep seeing people say he should’ve took the check down to Diggs and kept the ball moving……the issue is it’s a 3 point game and all a FG does is tie the game…..the TD gives us a 4 point lead and forces KC to drive down the game for a TD. You cant treat a game tying drive the same as game winning drive. If the opportunity presents itself to score a touchdown to take the lead you have to take it whenever it presents itself regardless of the time on the clock. Josh took it and it didn’t work….move on.

Diggs wasn't even looked at so he was probably a decoy to draw attention. So to me it was the wrong call at the wrong time. Maybe if you take that shot on first down I have less of an issue with it since KC would have been expecting run.

30 yd TD as we saw is not a given. Let's say that ball went to Diggs then and he doesn't get the first but gets 4 yds. Now it is 3rd and 5. Your  odds of converting go up. So on 3rd down I am again looking to get that first down to keep the clock moving. Even if it was 4th and short. I am not kicking the FG and keeping the ball in my best player's hand. Once it was 4th and 9 we had no other choice but to attempt the FG. However, I don't doubt that KC which had moved ball all night wouldn't have drove down for the winning FG even if Bass tied up the game.

  9. McDermott saved his job with late season run and team not quitting on him. However, he needs to be put right back on the hot seat this upcoming season. Losing again in the playoffs is another mark against him. However, going into the KC game felt the offense needed to put up at least 30 to have a shot against the Chiefs. We played a good first half but only managing to put up 7 in the second half was bigger issue with depleted defense.

McDermott should bring in some OC candidates and do his due diligence. I am not handing Brady the job immediately. The running game was much improved but both personnel and scheme left much to be desired on the passing side. It was like pulling teeth when it came to passing the ball and nothing came easy. How much of it was personnel or scheme who knows but it looked to be a combination of both to me.

So hopefully primary focus is adding more weapons on the offensive side. Draft becomes more important now due to being up against the salary cap. McDermott needs to work on integrating younger players who are potential fringe starters into roles sooner. Going to need to learn and live with some of the mistakes because team will be better off in the long term.

And we lose if you dont convert vs taking a 4 point lead with under 2 minutes left in the game.  100% of the time you take the points and lead, especially when that lead is greater than a FG.  Now the opponent has to go the length of the field and convert a TD in order to take the lead or win the game with under 2 min to go and only 2 timeouts.  And KC was missing their best receiving weapon in Rice too making that harder and was having to rely on receivers who has shown to be unreliable catching the ball including dropping multiple game losing passes this season.

Your odds of winning the game are substantially higher taking a 4 point lead vs remaining in a losing position with and putting yourself in a must have 4th down conversion against one of the best defenses in the NFL.  I mean the math on that is not even close given the immense amount of variables involved.

How many of you would be on here saying that Allen made a mistake taking the TD had Allen and Shakir actually connected?  I am gonna guess nobody would be saying he should have not taken the TD and instead gambled on getting one later.  The correct choice is always the choice you would make regardless of its success or failure on the play.  And the mathematically the best odds of winning there are take the 4 point lead vs force a 3rd and 3 while still down 3 and still 25 yards or so away from the endzone.

Again it was the timing of the play call and taking the shot there. If it was on 1st down I have less of a problem with it as KC knew that run was coming and sold out to stop it. The odds of a 30 yd TD being successful is much less than taking the check down. So yes you rather take that TD anyway you can get it. However, they should have been playing both the clock with trying to score at the same time. The timing of both those 2nd and 3rd down calls will always be terrible to me.

The percentages go up on converting the closer you get to that first down marker. They should have been been running something to get person underneath free as we were moving the ball dinking and dunking down the field. Diggs wasn't even looked at so my guess he was just playing decoy out there to draw attention. As he was immediately open after the snap and if he had been the primary read should have gotten the ball. People can bring up we couldn't trust him, what if it got tipped at the line, etc.. You can do the same for Shakir and as we saw we didn't convert because Allen couldn't set his feet as Dawkins bumped into him. Knowing how strong of a defense KC had. I am looking to get the ball out quick and not giving them a chance to get to the QB.

This isn’t correct in this situation. That’s playing to try and not lose, not playing to win.  Down 3 where a TD puts you up 4 and makes the other team have to drive the field, you 100% take the TD.  So what if we get 3rd and 3, if we don’t convert then we kick a FG and Mahomes has a minute and a half with at least 1 timeout to WIN THE GAME on just a simple FG.  The same Mahomes who twice got a FG at end half in 12 seconds and end of game in 13 seconds on this very Bills team the last 2 seasons.

It’s mathematically and statistically incorrect to turn down a 4 point lead there to pick up a few yards and still not be assured of either a first down or even a score.  Not to mention every additional play brings more risk of a turnover too.

The game plan down three is get a TD at all costs, not risk just tying the game on a FG where the opponent can win with time on the clock to get their own FG.  Especially when we struggled on D all night.

If it was 3rd and 3 or 4th and 3 I am going for it unless KC has burned their timeouts and there isn’t a lot of time on the clock. At which I may then consider taking the FG and hoping we can pull out W in OT. I am putting the ball in my best player’s hand and trying to win game. I didn’t like any of the play calls that entire series starting with the predictable first down run. They should have stuck with the short game for at least that series to milk more time off the clock. Even if Bass made that FG I have no doubts that KC was driving down the field for the winning FG.

FIFY. If we want to say the DB was holding Sherfield’s arm on the first, okay, but it didn’t look like he was trying to fight him off and get his arm away (which might’ve drawn PI), but the second long pass downfield I feel most receivers in the league will come down with. When Sherfield got up protesting to the ref that he caught the ball, he gave me hope watching from home and then I see on the replay it clearly hit the turf and I’m like “dude, what are you arguing??”

Sherfield and the other dudes need to go the Josh Allen school of acting. When the DB held his other hand on that deep ball. I would have tried to fight him off and make it known to the refs I was being held. Allen is good at drawing calls that are questionable because he sells it to the ref.

  13. We can be critical of his performance but not sure why fans would go after him and heckle guys on your team. Had high hopes for Davis after that amazing playoff performance against KC few years back. However, he never developed the way you hoped. Best of luck to him in the future just hopefully not on this team.

I'm not on the fire McDermott train yet, but I will say if they don't greatly improve the offensive players this off season (like better wide receivers) I'll definitely jump on that train. Allen is a beast, and they're handicapping him with the offensive weapons they're giving him. Harty and sherfield were absolute busts this season. Shakir and kinkaid were really the 2 bright spots. Who knows with Diggs. They need to invest heavily in the offense this off season

If there is an offensive mind available that is an upgrade I would consider it like a Harbaugh. I am less interested in going the Belicheck route. I want to pair offensive mind with Allen to take team to the next level. Much easier to find someone on the defensive side versus the other way around.

As I said elsewhere, it’s a possibility but considering the route/communication issues revolving around him all season it’s just as likely he would have been standing in a completely different spot.

I believe with all the options/checks they have going on those issues are going to happen. They need to simplify things in the offseason if they make Brady the permanent OC. Too much thinking and it was like pulling teeth all season to have a consistent passing game.
