  1. What a breath of fresh air a new manager is. Prepared, diligent, intelligent and articulate. Pushing all the right buttons.

I read he asked all the vets after the late night DC game if they wanted off and all of them said absolutely not so you know damn well they are buying into him and got his back.

With that being said Ces suposssedly has flu like symptoms and could use a night off.

Looks like Noah developed a blister which explains why he hit a wall in the 5th...I have full confidence in Jake tonight going at least 7 (prefer 8) and giving the pen a night off. This team os VERY VERY LIKABLE!

Also I was pretty hard on Agon in ST...I would like my crow served fried at a Bills tailgate this fall please.

I saw a post game where they were questioning Reyes over Rosario, especially after Rosario had the big hit a day before. One of the talking heads said that Callaway will be  playing the whole roster.

Reminded me of Bobby V.  I can remember going to Shea a few times and me and my friends complaining that he was starting Lenny 'Effin' Harris. And then Lenny would go out and have a big day. Not that Reyes had a big day, I heard he was awful. Anyway, my point is that Bobby kept the bench fresh by giving them starts regularly even at the occasional expense of the starter and what the fans wanted.  A lot probably goes into picking and choosing when to sit the starter. Today it may have been because Strasburg was starting.

Lenny was an unsung hero on those Valentine teams

Keith said they should have pulled a left arm out of the pen to face Bruce...

I was just as surprised as him.

How bout our Metsies fellas??? 5-1 to start the season and kicked the teeth in on the Nats on their opener? Wow! Way way early but things are clicking.

And who is this Robles guy??

Yeah, definitely.  Give me Howie on the radio any day.  Great win, today.  Nick clutch hitting by Rosario.  Mickey continues to manage the bullpen well, but I'd like to see deGrom and Syndergaard get some 7 inning starts.  Thor didn't have his great stuff today, but was still very good.  15Ks by Mets pitchers today and even Robles had a nice showing.  Great game.

I agree we are going to start needing more length or the pen will get fried. I think once we get some normal weather finally that will happen.

Goodness Gsellman and Lugo look like they are going to be absolute deadly weapons outta the pen!!!

Really really hope this isn't starting a trend with Facebook streaming games

Luckily this was the first and only one for the Mets this year.

I'm not on facebook so I will have to miss the game. I wouldn't mind as much if Syndergaard wasn't pitching.

I do not care how easy it is to create a fake profile. It's complete and utter garbage that this is how you have to view it. Not to mention you do not even get Gary, Keith and Ron but instead we are getting John Kruk and some other tool.

  6. After another disappointing start for Matz on Easter and a snowed out game, Mets will push Noah to Wednesday (Facebook Live only by the way) and give the ball to Harvey tonight. Here's to hoping a contract walk year motivates Matt to show us something resembling at least 2015 Harvey as I know we will never see 2013 Harvey.

And yes...Wednesdays game is Facebook only. Even for those with MLB.TV out of market. Facebook purchased the rights to 25 games this year and this is the first and only Mets one. I'm not happy about it but I guess at least get it out of the way? Then again the weather looks like crap today and tomorrow in NYC so who knows.

I'm not down with the Cabrera/Tejada comparison. Ruben Tejada has done nothing in this league. He's three years younger than Asdrubal and was fattening up before he ever established himself. Asdrubal has had a nice career....which he's been on the downside of since we got him.

I'm not wild about Asdrubal at 2B either (although thrilled it's not 3B), but he's a gamer, has given the Mets two solid years, much better than anything Ruben gave us.

My dream is that the Twins fall out of the race and the Mets trade for Dozier!

I was impressed by Cabrera grabbing 2 extra bases with balls in the dirt which lead to Plawecki driving him in(who also had a really solid spring that is leaking into the regular season). I'm not a big Cabrera fan, reminds me of a better hitting Tejada. Both slow and look out of shape. But, he played well today without even getting a hit.

Just had this same conversation with my father on Cabby. I did like the 2 walks but yes he does look slow and out of shape.

  9. Well today began on a REALLY sad note with the passing of Trusty Rusty. Boy that man could handle a bat! Laugh angle my ass! But as the day went on and the Mets game unraveled it quickly put a smile on this big Met fans fans face.

Today: 15 K's and only 1 walk...1!!! By the Mets pitchers. Incredible.

Mets today 9 Runs 9 Walks 7 singles 2 doubles zero homers !

Obviously it's only 1 game of a marathon but that was GREAT!!

Well gents..100% chance of rain on thursday.

Oh the irony of your screename and your post! I am hearing mid 50's and afternoon showers possibly but not an all day soaker. Oh well...looks like it will be a wait and see.

I agree Gugny but I do see why they do it. It might come into play this year but you know the Wilpons do everything they can to play. That means get all those fans in the stadium, parked, spending money during a 3 hour delay only to call it off and send them home while they count the tills and see $$ in their eyes.

@Gugny and @Tierlifer So you guys like Conforto in CF? I know that he's held his own out there, but I prefer him in LF or RF.

But I agree with Gug, I love Lagares in CF,  just frustrated the switch hasn't turned on for him at the plate yet.

For what offense he brings to the table , he can work in CF even though he’s not a good glover out there was my thinking. Honestly all the metric sites have him ranked as an average CF or a very very slight tick below at worst in CF.

I too wish Lagares would have made that next jump. What a frustrating player. Such poor plate discipline and just cant get on base. Even when he does he has no base stealing ability either. Unfortunately he’s a 5th outfielder at this point in his career and it was one of the few Sandy contracts given our way to early. I miss old Juan!

I think if Nimmo stays hot, then Wilmer might be riding the pine while Nimmo takes RF and Bruce take 1B.

Defensively, I'd rather have Wilmer at 1B, but we'll want Nimmo's bat in the lineup as long as he's producing.

I'd love to see Lagares take CF and hit with some consistency.  I think he's one of the best outfielders in the game.  Covers a lot of turf and is really fun to watch out there.

Once Conforto is ready, it'll be between Nimmo and Lagares to take RF if Bruce has to man 1B for the long-term.

Gonzalez is toast.  I don't even want to see him take the field - but I know he will.  I hope Dom Smith gets his **** together.  Would be bad news for Lagares and Nimmo, but great news for the Mets.

To be fair and I know it’s a SSS, Agon started showing a pulse at the end of ST. 4-14. There is no other 1B on the roster. Flores isn’t an everyday 1B, he’s a platoon. I’m willing to be patient (like 2-3 weeks into April).

    agree on everything else

I half-watched a few innings of the game today. Was happy to see Nimmo and Rosario rip a double and triple respectively. Most people fall in love with the long ball, but give me the frozen rope every day of the week. I still remember seeing John "The Hammer" Milner hit a rope that rocked the right field wall at Shea and Jesse Barfield hit a line drive HR at Yankee Stadium that was over the wall before you knew it. These days they'd call it exit velocity, back then it was just "Wow!".

I have a hard time seeing how Nimmo fits in, except if Bruce moves to first at some point as you noted. Made me think. The OF situation is still messed up. For the life of me I don't understand how Cespedes can play CF and LF but not RF....where his arm would be more valuable.  It'll never happen but I'd love to see Conforto in LF, Cespedes in RF and Nimmo/Lagares in CF.  I'd probably get sick of watching Bruce play first pretty quickly, but I'd like that outfield alignment.

    Anyway, Lets Go Mets!

As much as I love Ces, he for whatever reason will only play LF. He’s perfect for RF IMO.

I think Flores will play 1B until Smith is ready if Agon is that shot, I don’t see Bruce playing more than a handful of games there.

  14. So far everything about Callaway and Eiland have been a breath of fresh air. They demoted Robles and Wheeler based on poor springs as they should have bwen. Meritocracy indeed. Gonzalez started hitting better right at the end of ST so let’s hope that continues into the regular season although I expect his leash is only a few weeks long. Sandy was on NY radio and said if he doesn’t hit that Bruce would be making some starts at 1B.

Other Met nuggets from the weekend ....

Matz pitches great today in his final tuneup....after his first 2 awful ST starts he’s been lights out.

Phillip Evans made the team as the 25th man and well deserved. Not sure what they will do with him when Conforto return off the 10 day DL (retroactive a few days from the last few days of ST.

Mets signed LH RP Fernando Abad to a minor league deal today. I have a feeling that will be their other lefty specialist out of the pen once he’s up to snuff. Not “Abad” signing.

ST is over and Opening Day is on Thursday! I’m cautiously optimistic and as always pumped for baseball ! LGM

He always had a wad of Red Man in his mouth which would explain his tooth loss.I didn't know he was losing it mentally..that sucks!

I followed him on Twitter until I realized it was his publicist. One of my favorite Mets from that era but my god that guy is a space cadet.

Anyone watch the ST game yesterday with Giminez? 19 year old absolute STUD prospect from the IFA draft a few years ago. He is going to be a beast. Just wait until he fills out. They are going to be pretty aggressive with him and start him at St Lucie this year. Hoping he gets promoted to Binghamton say in July or August. Can't wait.

Had a cool Mets moment yesterday.

Sitting near the end of a people-mover in the Minneapolis airport, I look up and do an obvious double-take when I see Dwight Gooden. Somehow he noticed either my double-take or my friends Mets hat. And as I'm poking my friend to look up from his phone Dwight waves over to us and says hi. I give him a 'Whats up Dwight" and he continues on his way. The whole thing lasted about as long as it takes you to walk 60 feet and 6 inches.

Very cool! From what I’ve heard he’s looking and doing well. Thanks for sharing.

  17. After hitting for the cycle today in another minor league game, Conforto has talked himself into a Greapefruit League game tomorrow as DH! Excellent news.

Not hogging anything, man.  This is awesome dialogue!

Thanks! I mean how much more can we discuss Darnold, Allen, Rosen and Mayfield? I’m ready for some ball!

  19. Conforto played in a minor league game today and hit not 1 but 2!!!!!!!! Hr's off get this.......to LEFTIES this morning. One of them being Tim Peterson, their top draft pick last year. Yes it's only minor leaguers and basically a simulated game for the most part but to me that is EXCELLENT news.  Everything I have read from the Met beat writers on twitter is they expect him back before the original May 1 date.  Just think of how the lineup will lengthen when he gets back.

And I apologize if I am hogging the thread on here, I'm a bit of a chatterbox when it comes to the Mets and just consider myself lucky that I found a good board that I can talk both of my favorite teams Mets and Bills.

  20. I live on Binghamton and go to a lot of Rumble Pony games...I got to see Alonso play in his very brief call up last August. There is some sheer, true and raw power there. The sound of the crack off his bat is spectacular. He hit them on to the rail yard beyond LF with ease.  However...he is an absolutely butcher with the glove so  I'm hoping he works on there. It really is as bad as advertised.

Agree with the rest on Flores but once Conforto comes back then Nimmo is odd man out unfortunately unless you stick Bruce at 1B.

Looks like the pitchers are rounding into shape as Harvey had a very encouraging outing yesterday against the Cards A squad. Looks like he mixed in his slider/change up with his fastball according to the Cards radio guy I had on XM.  Good signs but of course I am cautiously optimistic. Since he pitched against the Cards and that's who they play opening series I'm assuming that means the opening series will be Noah, Jake and then Matz on Easter Sunday. Only 8 more days!!!   LGM

My guess is we'll see a lot of Bruce and Wilmer at 1B.  Gonzalez is an automatic out, which the Mets cannot afford.  He'll be getting thrown out at first on balls that reach the outfield.

Agree but with less than a week left in call, shouldn’t Bruce at least start getting some reps at 1B? I don’t see what trotting Gonzalez out there is going to do. Bruce was the emergency 1B plan if Agon bombs (which he appears to be doing) and if Smith underwhelms again. Well he’s hurt soooooo I’m just baffled why Bruce is getting no looks in exhibition games. At least let him brush the dust off. ??‍♂️

  22. 8 hours ago, Misterbluesky said:

Yes..I watched today,Matz is sure to be in the opening day list of starters...for how long is anybody's guess. The game was only on the Houston feed for me..I wish they would have mentioned something about his off speed stuff..but I realize, especially during ST the home announcing crews really focus on upcoming talent and beaucoup amounts of jipper -jabber.

I wonder how long Sandy sticks with A-Gon? He looks absolutely fried. I tend to give vets the benefit of the doubt in ST (Frazier hasn't had a great ST), but he just looks like toast. It's too bad Smith got hurt for the first time in his entire career this ST because all he had to do was hit .250 and could have probably won the job. I hope they at least platoon Flores at 1B until they ride out Agon.

Knowing Alderson, he will at least give him 3 or so weeks of April to let Gonzalez wake up. Not at all happy about it but I don't see them cutting ties with him for at least a few weeks.

Nice too see Frazier hit a double. I know a lot were happy about that signing but he will provide a rock solid D, hit you 25 or so bombs and knock on 75 or more than I am A-ok with that.
