Granted, Allen made him look beyond silly, but Allen has done that with a lot of people!

With that said, if it is 1-2 years of Van Noy or our polarizing middle linebacker, I would take Van Noy because he also has an ability to get sacks and turnovers.

I will say this, you continue to prove yourself a wizard!

Which is less unlikely?  I think most would agree it's Bass overriding instructions and going with something he was told before the game.  And Farwell is gone.

I guess I'm not most. I can't quantify it for you, but to me it's less likely that Farwell didn't make some attempt to tell Bass to squibb/pooch it. Especially with the 2 point conversion going on and the extra time that was there. Farwell being gone was probably not just one screwup, although this failure was probably the topper.

Apparently the issue is that he’s fluctuated from 340 to 380 and hadn’t sustained a particular weight. Not a surprise he came in “light” to the combine. He can still move fast at his playing weight so it wouldn’t matter to me if he was 360 but just a matter of whether he can and wants to manage the position and weight expectations of the team that takes him.

That's really where we have an advantage now as opposed to the drought years, there is an expectation to win now. There will be pressure from the other players on him, and I for one am glad that he was able to drop some weight because it would tell me if he's focused he can get it done. So as a coach I'm having the captains of the team demand excellence from him. I think he can add a dimension to this defense and will be someone who makes the players around him better, assuming he wants to put the work in. I especially like the idea of him batting balls down, it will be tough for any qb to throw over him.

If, as it seems, Farwell didn't relay that it was instead supposed to be a squib or goal line KO to Bass, he's not a scapegoat: he's culpable.  But Farwell has never been accused of it by McD and the story is he resigned so I don't even think you can call him a scapegoat.  He's more like an escape goat...to Jax.

One other possibility for the execution is that Bass may have reacted to something on the field. I thought I saw Hill out there in the clip that cover1 had where some of our guys were looking at the sideline after the ball went out of the endzone. It's a possibility bass had been instructed before the game to knock the ball out of the endzone if he saw any shenanigans. Bass could have decided to override the instructions he had gotten.

No they dont... they don't need a vet QB don't know where you thought that up.

Locker room doesn't matter since Josh is the QB.

If we go into the season with a day 3 qb backing Josh up the whole locker room will have a problem because of the chance they would be taking. We saw this year how a game or two mattered at the end of the year and to not have a qb capable of winning games would be a huge issue. We don't play for draft position or to get a young player experience anymore, we play for championships now.

I've said many times before that I never liked the idea of drafting a run plugging DT for your first round choice and that typically if you are going to draft a first round DT it should be someone who can penetrate and make lots of plays behind the line of scrimmage.

The more I have seen video of Jordan Davis the more my view on him particularly is evolving.  I can't think of anyone since Ndamukong Suh and Haloti Ngata a player dominate and stop the run as effectively as Jordan Davis.  He's not just an effective run plugger, he very likely will become an elite run stuffer, top 3 kind of guy.  He will always command a double team, he would most certainly free up Oliver to make even more plays behind the line of scrimmage.

When you have someone who is that elite at stopping the run and who is that imposing of a figure, it alters the scheme.   He changes the whole dynamic on how a team has to attempt to attack your defense, not to mention he would be a handful in the pass rush.  Not so much that he himself would get lots of sacks or pressures, because most likely he wouldn't get all that many but what he would do is assist the team pass rush by helping close the pocket and freeing up other players, especially Linebackers.

I'm definitely warming up to Jordan Davis if we don't go WR which is what I'd like for the team to draft in the first round.

I think the interview will be a big thing for Davis. He might have the physical ability to be a Suh but it doesn't look like he is treating his body the right way to realize that potential. If Davis can convince beane he wants to work at being the best dt in the league then I say go for it. Getting some pass rush push along with run stopping at dt would add a nice dimension to,the defense.

Ramsey is definitely annoying and yeah there was surely satisfaction when he nearly blew that Tampa game and then when Higgins whiplashed him.    And I am all about not spreading the virus but the neck gaitor when it's 75 degrees in the house and nobody else has a mask on was also.

As for the short pass option...........Smudgy Perine isn't what I would have had in mind.

From the Chase screenshot above it looks like there are two Bengals short to burrows left, seems like the short progression was there, then to the other side with deep to Chase and finally short to Perine. Joe just didn't have the time.

Agree completely that mental and physical fatigue/wear and tear showed at the end.

I realize this will never happen, but I'm a proponent of shortening, not lengthening, the season.   Remember when the season was 14 games long?  I know you do.

    Two reasons:

    1) I think it's a "bait and switch" for teams and ticketholders of teams with open air stadia to keep extending the season into the depths of seasonal winter

    2) I think the wear-and-tear of a longer season degrades the quality of the playoff games and superbowl

Also not a fan of the extra playoff team and only 1 bye.  I think the initial round of playoffs was low-quality.

Like I said, I understand it will never happen because $$$$, but if we're throwing down what we'd like to see happen, that's where I am

Does it make that much of a difference, in reality? Say if the schedule was 16 games with three bye weeks how much would the dollars suffer? You would lose the gate revenue from a 17th game but isn't the real money from the TV contract that would in effect be 19 weeks? There can only be so many games on tv anyway and while there would be less games to choose from if there is a bad game you can just switch to other closer games. If the owners wanted to have more games available they could ramp up their desire to go overseas, which would also be easier for the players with more bye weeks.

I think the NFLPA really screwed the pooch agreeing to more games before getting more bye weeks.

I would still love to know what happened in that situation and this just makes things more murky. If Farwell didnt listen to McD and kicked it deep then he should have been fired. If McD made that decision then why is Farwell going? Or is his exit due to mediocrity in the punting and punt coverage?

After the extra point Bass might not have joined the st huddle where Farwell made the announcement and he then forgot to go back and make sure the kicker heard him. Just a guess though.

Then we need to find a true #1 RB. I like Motor but he's ideally a 3rd down/change of pace RB. Moss is not reliable.

Absolutely, especially since our oline is always going to be better pass blockers than run blockers so we need a better than average back with speed to attack off tackle. Seems pretty important to me.

I never said it was a high bar.  Just informing the poster, who might not have known, that Josh already surpassed Brady's rushing stats.

Good info, but actually I guess I didn't get the point I was trying to make clear. I was thinking on a year to year basis, so Brady in year 10 is going to be less than Josh in year 10, for any year that is looked at, just because Josh is a better athlete.

Exactly how much better do you want to see Josh "see the field" or "get rid of the ball faster"

He was like......arguably the best player in the NFL last year

It seems to me that if he doesn't run the ball the offense can sputter. He needs that scramble or one of his runs to keep drives going.. So I want to see the number of his runs drop and see the offense not lose a step.

With the hire of Kromer as OL coach, how much Josh runs may change.

Yeah maybe, hopefully it will be because Josh is seeing the field better and getting rid of the ball faster, but yes, our running game may be better with Kromer and less Josh.

I'd be willing to bet Josh's run stats will always be better than Tommy's at any similar point in their careers, because Josh can while Tommy cannot.

Who were Bradys Backups?  If Fitz is willing to hold a clipboard for League Minimum OK.  Anything more not thanks.  just go get a rookie

So you're going to compare what BB* does with rookies vs the rest of the league? No thanks, I'll spend the extra for the insurance with playoffs/positioning on the line.

Brady did have plenty of both rookie and veteran backups over the years. The other point is that Josh runs more than Tom and the chance we will need someone is much greater.

Happens often if there is flashes shown from a younger QB. The team just has to be willing to do it.

my point is you have Josh a Proven Veteran QB. You don’t need to drop big money into the BU positions. Anything more than 2M in the BU and we are not managing assets correctly.

We're at a point as a team where we need an experienced backup qb to give us a chance to win games if Josh goes down for a few games, and not worry about how much we can get for said backup in a trade. Those were the good old days when we weren't expected to be in the playoffs. As we saw this year a game or two has large ramifications on playoff seeding.

Pittsburgh did this with Charlie Batch, he was a backup who could come in and play ok as well as be a sounding board for Ben. Fitz could be that for us, if he was willing to accept that he is the backup and do the things that position requires. I could see Josh and Fitz getting along well too.

  16. Seems to me like McKenzie will end up with the NYG, Stevenson will compete with Beasley for playing time. We will be able to tell if the front office thinks Stevenson is good enough by what they do; if they re-sign McKenzie or draft a guy it doesn't bode well for him. This is what needs to happen for us with the guys who were brought in as fa's, they need to be replaced with draft picks to keep costs down. If not, the pay your own drafted players thing kind of falls apart.

Best case scenario Stevenson wins outright in camp and either Beas takes a pay cut or is released/traded.

If that is true than I would like him back at the right price.

Meh, I didn't think he had that big of an impact over the course of the year. I'm sure he's great in the locker room but I don't know if we need that as much anymore and I wouldn't mind seeing an upgrade. I'm hoping for a first round pick, with Diggs/Davis/Beasley it seems like a decent time to bring in a guy who can threaten the deep third, get acclimated slowly, then next year take a prominent role.

  18. 26 minutes ago, Locomark said:

If you don’t immediately answer Beasley then you didn’t watch the games this year. He has definitely lost his quickness  and agility. If all you can now do is run into an open area of a zone, your career is near its end. He is lucky if they keep him for his remaining year without asking for a salary reduction. Plus we also lost Sanders who I assume is retiring.

I assumed Daboll will pay Sanders decently to help the giants.

Maybe.  My Bears fan good friend says the Nagy is really screwing Bieniemy.  Still think it is crazy the Eric hasn’t gotten a shot where all of these other assistant coaches with much less resume get all these jobs.  Maybe Saints will be one for him.

I was reading the Bieniemy thread and I guess there is some personal baggage he has to overcome too. Will be interesting to see what happens with him.
