He was absolutely game-changing good, and regularly put us in great field position.

But I do agree the money should be spent elsewhere.

    This ^

Roberts was the top KR in the league last year for anyone that returned 10+ kicks. He consistently gave the O good field position and only seemed to have made poor decisions a handful of times. Unfortunately we're getting to that point of our roster buildout where paying a KR top money isn't feasible.

to be honest it also may speak of the player. i think he is an odd duck. he has some sort of vow of poverty. im not making it up.

There was an article about him and his minimalistic tendencies a few years ago. Can't say I've heard of a vow of poverty though.

    EDIT: here it is

    An excerpt:

    Quote

“In his bedroom, he has a clothes rack, and that’s where his clothes are, on the rack, no dresser, no nothing. And a mattress on the floor,” Milano’s dad, Mike, said. “It’s hysterical.”

Milano acknowledges his lifestyle is an anomaly in a day and age of instant gratification and a culture built on materialism.

“It’s kind of weird at first,” Milano said. “People come into my apartment and they’re like, ‘Where’s everything?’ But you don’t really need it all.

“I just try to keep it to a minimum. A minimum is better. Once you start getting too much stuff in your life, your mind gets cluttered, your head gets cluttered, you can’t think straight on the field, so I just try to eliminate all distractions as much as possible.”

    Milano never had a pet.

If his place burned down, he’d “just pack my bag real quick and get out of there,” he said. “On the move!”

Cleveland. They mentioned Milano if they missed on David.

I don't know why, but it seems like Cleveland always has money to spend.

Pretty much just means a ton of dead cap after these two years.  Something I think the Bills should do.  This cap is going up, get some immediate gains, for future strain.

It means he's signed for two years but for cap purposes, he'll be on the books for 5. Basically agreeing to put dead cap in future years now so that they can sign David, Godwin, Shaq, and other players as well.

Thank you both. With a new TV deal and it being a near certainty that the cap will be significantly higher in 2 years, this type of structure makes complete sense. Savings of $X amount this year is much more impactful than $X amount of dead cap in 2023. Maybe we'll see Beane do the same type of thing.

No way in Hades Milano gets as much or more than David. He's not even close to that level of LB imo. I think his ceiling will be $10M on the open market unless someone is flat out stupid and desperate.

I thought the same thing too, but David is 31 whereas Milano is 26. That might impact how much he gets 🤷‍♂️

  5. I hope we can restructure his deal and keep him on board - he's a leader on this team and even though he's not as good as he once was, he's still serviceable.

Last year he was tied for 44th in the league in QB pressures, and I'm willing to bet that he subbed out quite a bit more than the 43 guys ahead of him.  The next closest DE on the team? Mario Addison at 146, and Epenesa at 224. It's clear we need a top-flight DE in here, but I still think there's room for a guy like Hughes.

The key to sustainability in the NFL is cheap rookie contracts.   We need to draft well with those early picks so we don't have to have a bunch of 10M plus per year players. No more trading picks...the plan has worked.  Don't deviate.  Draft well and plug in good starters via FA.

This is where I'm at. I think (hope) the Diggs trade was an infrequent type of thing and that we don't trade away future 1sts for talent. Yes, he's obviously a top-tier player and I'm ecstatic he's on the team/think he helped JA get to the next level - but if we want to be good over the long term, we need to have young, talented players on rookie contracts.

    See EJ's pick 6

Not that I agree with this take, but one could make the argument that the Cardinals are closer to being a SB team (Not winner, but team) because they are in the wide open NFC and do not have to go through KC.

They should probably start with their division, where they went 2-4 last season, before focusing on winning the NFC title 🤷‍♂️

I think they make him the lowest tender.  That said, I am not sure anyone can say they are sold on him.  He has eliminated some of the very bad mistakes (dropped snaps, bad holds, blocks, frequent shanks). But he is still not great at the finesse stuff--pinning teams inside the 10.

I expect they will bring in some legit camp competition.

The punt that went out inside the 1 gives me hope!
