Moss and Breida both had less than 100 receiving yards for the whole 2020 season. I mean maybe they weren't really given the opportunity, but the stats aren't very impressive.

Miami barely used Breida last year, though the most receiving yards he has had in a season is 261.

Is he just a Yeldon replacement? Or legit competition for Singletary and Moss? Hopefully the latter. We need speed on the field.

Legit competition in my opinion - career average of 4.9 YPC and is one of the top 5 fastest players in the league. We desperately needed speed out of our backfield and now we have it.

I have some doubts that he will be the main return man this season, given his ball security issues.  I could see them trying some other guys out to fill that role.

I know he had fumbling issues when he came into the league... but per here, his last fumble was in 2018. Ball security is something guys can improve 🤷‍♂️

    • Haack is better at pinning the ball than Bojo is. Bojo has a stronger leg.
    • Roberts is a big loss in the return game - hopefully McKenzie can fill in nicely.
    • Hollister > Smith, Kroft.
    • Sanders is as good, if not better than Brown

Given all that (and the fact that we're going to add in the draft), I don't think we took a step back. When it comes to NE, MIA, and NYJ, everyone knew they would improve considering they were all in the top 5 in cap space.

He has worked so hard to improve his game.  No fumbles - hope I am not jinxing him.  Respect McKenzie a ton and love that he is back.

Same. Had fumbling in issues in Denver, came here, worked his way up the roster, and has been able to carve himself a niche in a WR loaded with talent. Plus, his energy is contagious across the team, you can tell.

I'm absolutely stoked we found a way to keep him around :)

Simply not true in regards to them taking less money. Milano and Feliciano explicitly said they took less money to stay here. Beane said Trubisky had better offers from multiple teams but chose to come here based on many factors.  Brissett got $5 million a year a few days after Trubisky signed for half of that...

In terms of hits and misses in the draft and FA, all teams do.  The fact the Bills are the only team in the top 5 in terms of FA Dollars spent in the past 4 years with a winning record speaks volumes as to what he has done in comparison to what most teams do. Since McDermott has been here, the Bills have the most value from their draft picks of any team in the NFL.  Again....nice try.

Let's not try and create a fictional narrative because it fits the story you are trying to tell.  Unbelievable after building a 13-3 team reaching the AFC Championship Game within 4 years of a 17 year playoff drought and winning the AFC Championship for the first time in 25 years that we still have people who want to act like he has done a below average job.  Mind boggling really.

Considering how much the cap will be going up on a yearly basis, it likely will be a lot easier than it has at any time since the salary cap era started.

Thanks for taking the time to write all of this out. I was going to before I saw you did 👍

I found this interesting stat in today’s FMIA column by Peter King. (screenshot included below).

For anyone who is irritated that the Bills didn’t accomplish enough in free agency this year...please note that over the past three seasons, the Bills spent the third most of any team in the league in free agency. Of the top five biggest spenders, they’re the ONLY team with a winning record during that stretch.

The FA spending spree had to stop at some point. The Bills have reached the point in their rebuild where drafting well and retaining talent is of paramount importance. Beane deserves credit for how effectively he has used free agency to help build the team to this point, and he deserves the benefit of the doubt.

How did the Jets and Jags still have so much money to spend this offseason given what they've spent the last 3 years?

I'm curious how Mitch will be accepting his new role.  He was taken #2 overall 4 years ago, there were VERY high expectations attached.

Do you think he will amicably step into a supporting role behind Josh?

Does anyone think there will be sounds of unrest from our new back-up?

Considering he decided to sign with a team that has a definitive #1 guy, I'm willing to bet he handles it amicably.

  8. Interesting comments on the Bojorquez situation.

Essentially, McBeane said Bojo had a good year but they wanted someone who wanted to be here long-term. (Said Bass is a young guy and that they plan on having Ferguson at LS for a long time.)

So perhaps Bojo didn't want to be here over the long haul?

Interesting that both Beane & McDermott are saying pretty emphatically that "we can run with the guys we have".  I missed the initial question, but I wish there was a follow-up.  In multiple games the opposing D put like 5-6 defenders in the box, and we still couldn't run against those defenses.  Would love to know what the FO's plan is to address that if it's not personnel.

I don't think you should take too seriously anything they're saying right now. We're through the first wave of FA and the top DL have signed elsewhere. I'm pretty sure they're not going to come out and say anything other than what you mentioned, effectively showing their cards to the rest of the NFL.

Signing Mitchell Trubitzky after using a high draft pick on Jake Fromm is a clear sign that every one on the team has to earn their starting role every year, week, and day.  This has serious shades of Rob Johnson and Doug Flutie.  I think the locker room is strong at this point but I really hope this isn't the start of another QB controversy.

Lets not forget, Trubixy was the SECOND OVERALL PICK in the draft not long ago.  The guy was considered a serious talent.  The NFL is a what have you done for me lately league.  One or two bad games from Allen, or god forbid an injury, and I think its very realistic we could have a debate about the starting QB and a locker room divided.

    I hope I'm wrong fellas....

    lmfao

Hm not sure I like this move. In a year with reduced cap space you have to make room sonewhere and backup QB would be my first choice to make that room. But we'll see what his cap hit looks like.

Counterpoint: the team is in their SB window and Allen is still susceptible to taking big hits. You gotta make sure you're team's SB chances aren't completely nuked if your QB1 goes down.

Well, I think it's kind of the opposite, innit?  If they signed Samuel they'd be less locked in to WR at 30.

Perhaps they want a stud young WR on a rookie contract to learn behind Diggs, Beasley, & Sanders for 1 year vs. signing a top young guy, which would lock them into having two $10M+ receivers for the next 3 seasons?

(Personally I don't think it's either scenario, but it's just a thought exercise)

Do you think someone like golladay, fuller, or Samuel would want to come to Buffalo where they would be the 2nd or 3rd option though? (Diggs and Beas)

I think part of them wanting to take a 1 year prove it contract is them knowing they will be the clear 1 on the team with a lot of balls coming their way. Especially someone like golladay

    ^^^^ this, 100%.

Of course Golladay wants a 1-year prove-it type deal. He'll be the go-to target for one of the top young passers in the game and get a long-term deal at the end of the season when the cap jumps up.
