Ladanian Tomlinson will be 30 years old before the start of the '09 season. He's been hurt at key points of the season both of the last 2. He's topped 1,100 yards and 10 TD's every season of his career. Alot of teams are set at RB right now. Realistically, who do you think will be going after the guy? I hate to say this, but I think that NE would be going after him hard if he hits the open market. Other than NE, I'm not really sure who would be that determined at getting him. I think it would be mostly teams that think they are 1 playmaker away from a SB, but who are they really? What do you all think?

I dont think you can look purely at stats. Didnt the defense improve greatly this season? Wasnt the opposing offense on the field less than in previous years? Didnt we have a better run defense where the safety doesnt need to make the tackle? Just a few things too look at.
Yes, I said something about his production declining. We do have some better pieces here than in his first season, but my main concern is if he shows the ability to be a difference maker on defense. Hence I wrote:
but the INT's and pass breakups should be higher in number. He only has 2 INT's, 6 passes defensed, and 1 sack in 3 years. -
Horrendous post. Is this what TSW has come to in the offseason? Vince Young was a pro-bowler in 2006 and if you recall, in that game against the Bills, was absolutely insane. By the end of 2006 and for parts of 2007, he literally looked like a man amongst boys. The guy has once in a generation talent, but clearly has some sort of mental issues. But mentioning him in the same post as Ryan Leaf, Mike Williams and Charles Rogers?!? Come on man.
Everyone was all over the guy's jock for no reason IMO. He was another running QB that could not consistently throw the ball with any type of accuracy except on little dump offs. That's it. He beat us with his legs, not with some kind of HOF peformance. Overrated, unstable, and soon to be out of the NFL after being the #3 overall selection = BUST.

I said 2012, because that's when the Mayan calender predicts the apocalypse
-
Too early to tell...
Possibly, but the writing is on the wall.
-
I'd say that he has to be right up there at this point. The guy was a #3 overall pick with expectations that exceed the place that he was selected at. He had a couple of decent/sub par seasons running around on the field, but has never had any resemblance of an NFL QB IMO. Then he falls apart because he gets booed by fans that were upset with his play on the field? Now he can't even get back in there ahead of Kerry Collins. I'd say he's right in there with the Ryan Leaf's, Robert Gallery's, Mike Williams', and Charles Rogers' of this world. It won't be long before the guy is sitting on the coach at home, dipping his Tostitos, and screaming at the TV EVERY Sunday just like the rest of us. Sad, but true none the less.
-
I like Whitner and all, but his stats have declined every season in the NFL. He went from 104 tackles(14 games), to 89 tackles(15 games), and this year he had 61 tackles(13 games). I know the injury to his shoulder hurt his stats this year, but the INT's and pass breakups should be higher in number. He only has 2 INT's, 6 passes defensed, and 1 sack in 3 years. I don't think we should be worried about an extension for him just yet. Maybe after next season, if he shows improvement in being a playmaker and not just another guy making tackles 10-15 yards downfield and less tackles per year at that.
-
that's an interesting option. bryant is very talented, no doubt. he'd also more than likely come with a lesser price tag than many of the 'bigger' names.
1- would he want to come to buffalo?
2- would buffalo even pursue him knowing that he's not of high moral fiber?
This season seemed to be a turning of the corner of sorts for him. Every time he was interviewed he seemed like a guy who was just happy to be playing football. He didn't complain about not gettng to the Pro Bowl or put in alot of commentary when the stuff with Gruden went down. He just seems like he may have actually grown up. He definitely doesn't seem like the same guy that threw a towel in Parcells' face.

Article about our scouting staff looking at all of the underclassmen that have made themselves draft eligable.

He could be franchised down in Tampa, but I'm not sure if they'll want to do that. I think his status became very unclear once Gruden went out the door in Tampa. He's put up solid numbers wherever he's been for the most part. He put up over 1,000 yards and 4TD's with San Fran, was out of the league for a year, and comes back to put up 1,248 yards and 7 TD's in 15 games. He's also only about to be 28 years old with less wear and tear than most WR's with his personal issues that kept him off the field. I think he could be had for a reasonable price tag for a quality WR, probably about $5-$6 million per season. That's not bad for a guy of his quality considering the money we pay others around here at OBD
I think he would be an immediate help and an incredible asset to our team. They surely wouldn't be able to double and triple Lee anymore. In the end, it might be a better move to make a play for Bryant instead of Houshmandzadeh.
-
He was awful even before he ruptured his spleen.
He actually seemed to be starting to put it all together on the field before going down with a ruptured spleen. He got a raw deal in Tampa by that derranged little doll. He wasn't really given the opportnity to compete for the starting job once he came back healthy. It's just another instance of Gruden playing his role as king turd.
I'd be happy if we brought him in as a backup. Truth be told, he might even end up taking Edwards spot if he kept having performances like the Cleveland game. It would definitely be an upgrade over what we had with J.P. Losman. I also think we should take a look at bringing in Byron Leftwich. He has a strong arm and could get the ball down the field. I think he'd IMMEDIATELY push TrINT for the starting QB job.

Well like any acquisition, it's how much you like the player and how much would he cost. The other thing I now add (since the Mike Furrey discussion) is if the player won't stand in the way of developing a young guy who has promise.
If he came at the veteran minimum I can't see how it could hurt, unless you hold the opinion that Ko Simpson or John Wendling is on an upward curve to being a starter. I don't hold that opinion.
As usual it's a simple cost:benefit analysis.
No it wouldn't hurt, but he's not coming to the Bills for the "Veteran Minimum". It's not going to happen. He'd go to a team where he has the chance to win a Super Bowl for the "Veteran Minimum". He would be better than our guys, but he's been hurt every year since 2004 basically. He's missed most of '04 because of an achilles injury, '05 because of a calf, '06 because of a Lisfranc fracture, '07 knee injury, and '08 it was a calf injury that landed him on IR again in week 15. Somebody will give him more money than he's worth on the open market.

I believe that T.O. is on his way out in "Big D". It's for the typical reasons as always, his attitude. He's 35, but it's hard to say that he's on the decline really. Owens is a great athlete who really takes care of his body, staying in top notch shape. He's still probably got another couple of good years in him. Not really some one the Bills would go after, but whatever.
Next, Matt Hasselbeck. He would be $6.3 million dollars that Seattle could put elsewhere. Seneca Wallace played well in his stead when he was out with various injuries. There also is a new coaching staff in Seattle which means the end for Matt I believe. They also pick at #4 in this year's draft which may allow them to snag Mark Sanchez if he slips past KC.
Next, Cadillac Williams. Had an outstanding rookie year, but then was beaten by the injury stick. He hasn't been able to stay healthy. His career was actually in question for a while because of the patellar injury. Graham and Dunn have played well for Tampa. This just means that he'll get a handshake, well wishes for the rest of his football career, and guidance to the door.
Next, Chris McAllister from the vaunted Ravens defense. McCallister is past 30 with injuries mounting. He can still play well if healthy, but $8 million is a BIG price tag for a question mark.
Next, John Tait and Adewale Ogunleye from the Bears. They're both due over $4.8 million each. Tait is getting old and they need to start letting a younger guy get in there and Ogunleye's production is down. Look for them to be shown the door.
Next on the block, Derek Anderson. The guy just signed a big money contract last year, but was it to be a backup? If Quinn shows well in the offseason look for Anderson to be let go. They'll only free up a little this year, but they'll be thinking long term with this move. This might be a guy that the Bills should make a move for if he hits the FA market.
The Skins have a plethora of players that could be on the chopping block for cap reasons. Most are over 30 and most all of them are overpaid. Marcus Washington, Shawn Springs, Cornelius Griffin, Jon Jansen, Randy Thomas, Antwan Randle El, and Fred Smoot.
The Lions will probably drop Leigh Bodden and Dante Culpepper for cap purposes.
Edgerrin James is more than likely gone in Arizona. He'll probably drive his Bentley back to South Beach and call it a career.
These are just the names and people that I can think of or have read about for the most part. I'm sure there will be quite a few others. There always are. Who do you think could be on the chopping block?
-
No. It would be like spending money for an IR reservation because that's where he'll end up.

LOL, the guy peed on the Patriots franchise QB. Too bad it was the wrong one.

I'm starting to think that we might take 2 defensive ends in the early rounds of the draft. Especially if one is not gotten in FA. I could see us taking one in the 1st round and a second DE in the 3rd or 4th depending who's on the board. I hope we can drop down in the draft to pick up an extra 2nd round pick. Hoping that we could drop down and still get some one like Michael Johnson or Larry English in the 1st and maybe Ayers or Shaughnessy in the 3rd would be great. Take them along with Ellis and our front gets alot younger and there would be some serious potential. Hopefully Ellis hits the weight room HARD this offseason and comes back alot stronger. He has decent quickness off of the edge, just not the power he needs to handle these NFL lineman. If he does this, things will be looking up in Buffalo.
The other option that seems to be what might happen is getting Orakpo at #11. This didn't seem realistic a month ago, but for some reason he's dropped to us in almost every mock. If we get him at #11, I'd still like us to take another DE somewhere in the first 4 rounds. Maybe we get an extra 3rd for Parrish to take Ayers or Shaughnessy. More than likely won't happen, but I can dream
-
Never underestimate the power of Chroise. He could ascend to the upper NFL echelon of QB's this season.
On a real note, he'll never be more than a #3 QB.
-
Bottomline, the Cards could've won the game regardless if their defense steps up on that last drive. They couldn't do it. Big Ben and the Steelers drove right down the field and put it in the endzone. The refs didn't lose this game for the Cardinals, their defense did.

First off, welcome to the board
Laurinaitis Round 1 at pick #11? No. It will be a DE. Brown, Orakpo, English, Johnson, somebody who's main concern is getting to the QB from a 3-point stance.
Barwin Round 2? No. That's a reach for that guy at that position. Also versitile enough that he sounds like a 3-4 outside LB, not a 4-3 DE. We get one of the top 3 players at Center in this round.
Coffman Round 3? He'll be gone before the end of round 2. If he lasts till our pick in round 3 I'd be shocked. We could go TE in this round with James Casey, Jared Cook, Travis Beckum, or Shawn Nelson. My choice would be Casey if he's there. What will we do? Probably a TE unless there's another guy at a different position we have rated higher on our board
A RB in rond 4?
We have way too many needs on this team to draft a RB at any point in this draft. That doesn't mean our FO won't pull the trigger, but Lord knows they souldn't. I think they take a LB here. Marcus Freeman or Zack Follett maybe.
Sammie Lee Hill in Round 5?
Seems like a quality selection.
Round 6 Javorskie Lane?
Could be an immediate fan favorite in Buffalo once he runs over a couple of defenders and rumbles for 20-30 yards. I like the pick. I would like to have Jamarko Simmons, WR Western Michigan, if he's still here at this slot though he'll probably be gone. If he is there, I'd take the guy in a heartbeat and go FB in the 7th.
Waiting till round 7 to take a Center? Only if we land one of the sought after guys in FA. Other than that, who knows? I'd say FB if we get Simmons in the 6th. But if we were to get Lane in the 6th, I'd say Robert Brewster OT from Ball State. All MAC first team and with 47 consecutive starts you know the guy can stay healthy.

Agree that he needs more time but questions will linger until he makes his mark on the field. He is also negatively impacted by his injury situation which can take as long as two years to fully recover from. I hope he is not like Yoboughty in the sense that Yoboughty has flashed great potential but just seems to hit with the unlucky stick every year. On the whole you have to look at Yobouty as a bust for now. Sadly, he could be very, very good if he just manages to play for a while.
Youboty was a 3rd round pick, not a 1st. I don't think a 3rd can be categorized as a bust. They might have expected more from him by this point for sure, but not a bust.
The person who compared Hardy to Holmes doesn't understand what he's comparing. Let's look at this in detail.
Santonio Holmes- 5'11", 190lbs., great speed used to get open on deep routes, excellent return man, good leaping ability for his size, uses quickness to get open on underneath routes.
James Hardy- 6'5", 220lbs., decent speed, excellent leaping ability, needs to be given a chance to use his size effectively.
They are 2 completely different types of players. It's like trying to compare a Lexus to a Peterbilt. It doesn't make sense. I think comparing him to a young Plax is more in line with his game as a WR. Plaxico's first season, 22 catches for 273 yards. Hopefully, Hardy gets better with time like Burress did. Does the injury set him back in his developement? Maybe, but it's hard to judge. He should have the play book memorized by the time camp rolls around with every place that he should be on every play. The only thing left is for him and TrINT to build some chemistry. Once that happens he'll put up the #'s we were hoping that he would. Worst case scenario? TrINT continues to look like Kelly Holcomb reincarnate and never shows any kind of vertical passing game. Then you will all still be calling Hardy a "bust" and Lee Evans an overpaid underachiever when it's really out of their hands.
This "Bust" talk about Hardy is way too premature. We don't even have a QB who throws the ball downfield like talking about, more less throwing one up in the air where your 6'5" WR can try to make a play. First off, he needs to be put in position to suceed. The OC has to put him in places where he'll be most effective. Slant routes where he can use his body to shield a defender, fade routes where he can do the same, and deep routes where our QB can hang one up there giving him the opportunity to make a play.
And for what it's worth, Holmes had his BEST game of his career in the Superbowl just like Timmy Smith, Doug Williams, Desmond Howard, and Larry Brown. This doesn't mean that he's one of the great NFL WR's all of a sudden. He's another guy who had his best day on the biggest stage. Clutch? Yes. Great? No. The guy hasn't even had a season where he's posted 1,000 yards or more than 8 TD's. Let's not start using this guy as a measuring stick for NFL WR's.

I think that Peters will want more like $8 million or $9 million per season with $25 Million+ signing bonus. We're probably looking at 6 years $52.5 million with $25 million signing bonus.
-
Wouldn't do it for the guy if it's a one year franchise tender. He could walk after next season and that would be like we threw away our 1st rounder. I'd do it if he singed a long term contract with the Bills, but I don't see him really wanting to do that. Money talks though, so anything is possible.
-
I brought this up a few weeks ago. Go after Gross and if we sign him, trade Peters. Gross is a Pro Bowl LT that's been getting it done on a consistent basis for about 6 or 7 years now. It wouldn't be a bad move if Peters is talking about pulling the same crap again. Do I want to trade Peters? No, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. It would be the only scenario where we wouldn't really have that much of a drop-off in talent at the LT spot, if any at all.

Looks like this kid will soon be at a big-time college school for all to see. His dad was surely a pass rushing beast in the 80's.
Where Does Vince Young Rank...........
in The Stadium Wall Archives

Heard that as well. All signs are pointing towards Vince being shown the door in Tennessee. Look, I started this thread because of how far he's fallen in such a short frame of time. Sure Leaf was never ROY and never made the Pro Bowl, but he couldn't take the NFL mentally. Vince is showing the same characteristics mentally, minus a tirade directed at a reporter. To fall apart over getting booed shows that there are some serious issues going on. True we don't know if he was suicidal, but we do know that the problems cost him pretty much a full season. It's also led to the point that the head coach is saying that he wants his replacement back as the starter for the coming season. Like I said, the writing is on the wall.
