This front office will never build around Allen… and I think the biggest reason for that is Sean McDermott.
It's really starting to seem that way. He always has to spend high draft picks on defense. Coleman is the highest drafted WR in the 2nd. Kincaid was a 1st last year, but a TE. Knox was a 3rd, but a TE. Outside of that it's 4th, 5th, 6th Round guys at WR. We did ship a 1st to Minnesota for Diggs. But we've had opportunity to do more. It's like they get one guy every year and say, "We're good." No, we're not good.

The Good:
I like VanPran-Granger. I think Ulofoshio is a good replacement for Dodson. I think Solomon was a solid pick at that point.
The We'll See:
I understand the Coleman pick, and don't hate it at this point. Still kind of hesitant though. I actually had seen some people talking up Grable a couple weeks before the draft so maybe that's solid. People seem to like Bishop. Maybe he can be Poyer 2.0 for us, the young Po, according to his background of coming up to the LOS and athletic traits. At least that's what I read. Carter seems to be held in high regard from what I've read well. Supposed to be a quality rotational piece behind Ed O, even sharing the field to get interior pressure on passing downs.
The Bad:
Didn't like the Davis pick, especially with Estime still on the board. He's a one contract RB. He'll be 28 when his rookie deal is up. Would rather have had Kimani Vidal as well. Looking at our CB depth and the only guy we take is Hardy at the end of Round 6. Clayton is camp fodder.
I would have handled the draft differently than Beane/McDermott did. Much different.

yes, because getting WRs late on day 3 likely isn't perceived as being very high value. The difference between them and UDFAs is probably marginal. We're int he range of getting special teams contributors and priority UDFA targets here.
Did you say....... Special Teams?

I wouldn't be shocked if we take Pitt CB MJ Devonshire in this Round.
No draft would be truly complete without a late round DB from Pitt

Another small, fast guy for Tua to not hit if he needs to make a 2nd read. Is how that sentence ends.

Dolphins got Malik Washington now too. Another small, fast guy for Tua.

Chargers just got Kimani Vidal. Harbaugh is going all in on his offense.

Devonshire? We're only missing that late round Pitt DB.

Because you dont have to compete to sign them. If a couple of them make the roster than thats NFL minimum salary versus paying a veteran a couple of million. Simple economics of supply and demand. I can take whoever I want at this pick but if I don't then I have 31 other people in demand for me and I have to pay more than giving up a pick.
It's still bottom of the barrel guys. You can find them all over. What's one more UDFA?

Yeah we’re really going to miss Gabe Davis putting up 0’s in the THREE different games last year. Sign me up for some of that.
Diggs, while the team was going 6-1 and taking down another division crown-
315 yards, 34 catches, 1 TD.
How on earth will they replace that kind of elite production from their true number one receiver.I lived through Todd Collins, Rob Johnson, AVP, Losman, Edwards, Holcomb, etc, I will continue puckering up and then some so long as I never have to go back to that era of football…
These guys know how to win, they’ve proven that.
Go Bills!
Whatever makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. I lived through all of that as well. Don't forget the Chapstick

We are trading down and taking the late picks because we still have to fill 24 roster spots for the preseason. Even if your out of guys you truly want big time you still want those picks because you can take them and their part of your roster instead of having to compete with 31 other teams to sign them in the UDFA process.
Its amazing how few people understand this stuff.
Camp fodder isn't really that hard to find. Why trade back for it?

If we gain enough late round picks can we fuse them into a higher round pick?
Tried it already. Apparently other teams will trade with everyone except us, since "it takes two to tango" ya know.

Samuel was middling bc he was injured and then stuck with Sam Howell and Jacoby Brisset. He’s an playmaker and an asset in this offense.
Cook and Kincaid are nobody’s?
Brady’s scheme and ball control style of offense wasn’t a difference maker despite going 6-1 down the stretch? K…
Nevermind Taylor Kelce is almost 50. If they had Bernard or Milano, or any LB who wasn’t the corpse of AJ Klein, the Chiefs are not repeat Champions.
The defense didn’t force a punt. The defense always falls short in the post season.
Sans the Bengals game, Josh always does his thing every playoff game, even when Stefon Diggs was nowhere to be found, ever…
So the casual fan’s take away, after Josh was again almost perfect in the post season despite Diggs being non existent, and the defense pooping the bed, again, was this team needs an elite receiver??? Show me the math on that one…The defense clearly needs to be an absolute unit, which is where I agree with you, Spags takes chicken ***** and makes chicken parmesan year in year out. But he’s done next to nothing to play a role in beating Josh, ever. Chiefs are also 1-3 against the Bills in the regular season in that same time frame, so let’s not act like injuries on defense didn’t completely derail this team. Hopefully getting younger and faster at safety, adding to the DL, they can force a punt or two next year in the divisional round. Just have to avoid being snake bit at the worst possible time, i.e.- ALL of the linebackers getting hurt before playing the Chiefs…
Talking about the WR group guy. Look, you all can try to reason as to why we are fine, better, whatever. People can continue to pucker up for every Beane/McDermott selection. That's your choice. But I don't have to agree with your assessment. And I don't believe that our group overall is more talented than it was last year. I just don't. I also think we blew an opportunity to get a couple of WR's who could help replenish the cupboard, especially in THIS draft.

Samuel looked return to form
Shakir trending up, clearly Beane believes in him more than a lot of the fans around here.
Mack Hollins is a fine #4
Shorter is an unknown at this point, hopefully can crack the roster and make an impact.
They likely add another Mack Hollins type to fill out the roster.
This with Kincaid, Knox, and a strong running game, is more than enough when you look at what Mahomes just won the whole thing with.
Samuel is a middling kind of Slot guy. Seems like they are going to let Shakir get more run on the outside. Hollins is a slight step up from Sherfield. We are all hoping that Coleman can just equal Gabe's production. Shorter is an unknown, and has done nothing. The rest of the guys are nobody's. Mahomes has Kelce, Andy Reid, Steve Spagnuolo, and that defense. We do not.

I guess Beane's understanding of what it means to make the WR room more explosive doesn't square with common views.
I never said I thought a trade for Aiyuk was likely. We need that kind of receiver, though.
Apparently, they don't think they so. Deepest WR draft in 10 years and we get one at the top of the 2nd.

Broncos just got a SOLID RB.

If they get Aiyuk, it's forgivable, even rational, I suppose. Otherwise, not a great look.
We're not going after Aiyuk. We're not in a place to pay him the $$$ he wants. I also don't think SF trades him.

1st Round
2nd Rounder(Vikes)
2nd Rounder
3rd Rounder
4th Rounder(Bears)
4th Rounder
4th Rounder (Comp pick Davis)
5th Rounder(Comp pick Floyd)
6th Rounder(Giants)
6th Rounder
Gonna be a fun draft next year or they are moving some of this for a veteran WR probably after June 1st.
We're definitely not getting a 4th for Davis. We saw what happened with our ABSOLUTELY should have been 3rd. We'll be fortunate to get a 5th.

The Dolphins offense is still going to be tough if they can stay healthy. The Jets added some pieces to the OL, another quality WR prospect, another battering ram RB, and are getting a healthy Rodgers back. The Patriots are in full blown rebuild mode, but beat us last year with far inferior talent and Mac freakin Jones at QB.
This past season it took a 6 game run just to win the division. This year we play the NFC West (SF, Rams, and a should be much improved AZ squad), the AFC South (the upstart Texans, Indy with A. Rich back, a Jax team that always gives us trouble), our 6 division games, KC, Detroit, and Baltimore. This schedule is gonna suck.
At some point you have to realize the way you've been trying to operate doesn't work. At some point you have to be able to adapt. To repeat the same cycle year after year with a generational talent at QB is madness. At some point the owner has to say it and hit the reset button. I think the next two years are make or break. If we haven't gotten to the SB by the end of the 2025 season, when Josh is on the verge of 30, I think/hope Pegula will clean house. The goal is not just to be "Playoff caliber" every year, it's to win a Lombardi.
