How many GMs can you name that have made adjustments at halftime to win a close game? Or devised a game plan that can win a playoff game?
ML's a great guy, but his experience as a HC does not automatically translate to success in his new role.

Food for thought regarding this post. We As a head coach the first time around, I wasn’t able to do that as much as I would have liked. He’s hired enough staff and enough help to make sure that he is still involved in day-to-day coaching duties and that is what I’ll do the next time too.
So you think RW is going to open up his wallet and pay $$$ for some more talented assistants? Good Lord, we're doomed.

No problem with that. But I'll take Joe Gibbs over ML any day of the week. HC, GM, Nascar owner, dog catcher.
Marv's got a very limited (to nonexistent) track record of stocking a team from a player personnel standpoint and now we have a one-year-wonder of a HC (with a dubious track record for picking coordinators) and you think the Bills situation is remotely akin to the Skins situation?
And don't forget Danny-boy and his fat checkbook vis-a-vis RW and his Prozac and laxatives. Man, I just think you're still star struck from having a good season in DC after a dry spell. Let's see how Grego's D looks next year after the league has a year to get ready for it.

At the time those FA's were signed, they were about as high profile as they come. TD put all his eggs in the "win now" basket with those signings, and now they're on the downside three years later. Which makes his flip-flop to "building for the future with JP" so galling, based on those signings.
I know players and their agents look into a team before signing with them, but how do we know what this team looks like from a players/agents side? Just because WGR or ESPN is reporting the franchise is in turmoil must make it true cause they have been right 100% of the time (whens Haslett being named our new coach?)?Man, this is a multi-billion dollar business we're talking about. Player agents have contacts at every level of every organization. If they want to find out how the poops' flying, they can definately do so. They don't have to lisent to "GR.

It did work out from a FA signing standpoint (TKO, SA, LM, TV). Spikes couldn't wait to get out of Cincy and sign with a legit organization. Now we have the reverse situation.
You really think the players and their agents are so naive that they don't follow what's happening in a city before they consider signing somewhere?

Unfortunately, we don't have a HOF HC coach with four SB rings to run the show while our DC does his thing right now.
DC's, even very good ones like GW, are still DC's. We're talking about HCs here. Look at the HCs in the playoffs this year and tell me that experience as the head man -- both in terms of longevity and track record -- doesn't count.

Do you actually think Sherman would be at all interested in the Bills after this?? OBD is not gonna attract any high profile coaching talent as long as RW's running the show. As you say, the excrement will only get deeper.

When Joe Gibbs came back to coaching the Redskins who was his first hire?
Redskin One FLEW to Buffalo New York and landed Gregg Williams. Joe took care of the defensive side of the football and picked up the best available defensive coach.
There is a lot to the saying the Defense wins championships. Frankly? Our defense singlehandedly landed us two weeks into playoff football.
Marv knows what he is doing here. IMO.
Check back to us after Gibbs retires and Grego's your new head man. We'll keep the lights on for you.

Coaches get fired, even good ones. Good GMs, too (seems like that's happened a few times around here ).
The question is, if you have the chance to marry one of two women, do you pick Sophia Vergara or Bea Arthur?

The Bills will undoubtedly have to pay a "disorganized organization" premium to attract better FA's. The question is, how large that premium will be--10% above what an "attractive franchise to play for" offers, 20%, 30%, etc.

Maybe the fact that, aside from the eight-year run in the late '80s and early '90s, the Bills have only had 13 winning seasons out of the remaining 38 years of their existence has something to do with it.
It's actually pretty amazing how deep the loyalty is, given what many fans have been through over the decades.

Not saying he is(who is?)--but DJ's record has been quoted even more times as sure proof of future failure. And you know he will be a failure how? Because Mike Sherman with Brett Favre beat Jauron with Jim Miller. Tell me you know something more than that to explain your certainty that DJ will be a failure.
Even if you discount BB's HC stint at Cleveland, at least he'd been a highly accomplished coordinator with two SB rings prior to that. DJ's only accomplishment has been one year of success playing a last place schedule.

Yeah, let's go the proven loser route. That's the ticket.

Well, the Bills lifetime regular season winning percentage IS only 0.478 (327-357), so it's a lot more than the TD era, as any long time fan knows.
This team has only had 21 winning seasons in its 46-year existence. Eight of those were on Marv's watch, so aside from those great teams, that's 13 winning seasons in 38 years.

Not to hijack this thread, but the Steelers have played in the AFC championship game six of the past 11 years.
The Bills have a lot of improving to do to just get a sniff of the playoffs. I hope Dick's up to the challenge and can straighten this situation out, but it's gonna be hard.

Priceless.

I think JP can be an effective starter with a little more seasoning. But if we don't significantly upgrade the O-line, it won't be with the Bills.
