  1. BUt, we're not talking about middle managers at some dot com.

How many other head coaches in the NFL have walked away from their jobs?

Belichick?  Not really, he already had the Patriots job lined up.

NFL teams have plenty of front office shake-ups and coaching shake-ups and it is simply not true that one always goes hand in hand with the other.

If Mularkey thinks he has a better upwards career path in the coaching profession as the QB coach in Atlanta than actually being an NFL head coach (which is the top job for a coach, btw -- his aspirations to be an owner notwithstanding  <_< ) are, well, a little bit tortured in their logic.

Yep, GW sure is suffering with that demotion he took to work in Washington.

  2. I think this isn't really a good comparison.  There is quite a big difference between average Joe deep fry operator quitting his post at the McDonald's and a guy in an elite leadership position in a multi-billion dollar industry waking up one day and deciding to bolt their jobs.

Happens every day. Especially when more money and a better organization are involved.

  3. once a quitter, always a quitter? have you ever quit a job before because you didn't like the job anymore and/or didn't have any faith in the organization you worked for?  also, factor in that he knew he'd land a good job somewhere else. even if you haven't, you probably know that most people have and that it's not considered a bad thing. far from it, in fact -- most people consider it mentally healthy.

And he'll probably end up with a raise, like GW did. Sounds like a good career move to me.

  4. AP is reporting that Colts Asst. Head Coach Jim Caldwell will interview tomorrow for the head coaching job. They want to have a new coach by Tuesday and one with head coaching experience at any level is a priority.

I looked at the AP site and couldn't find any news on this. Got a link?

  5. That article sounded like 100% conjecture based on no facts, and no basis for his huge stretches of describing what went on behind closed doors at OBD. It didn't even make much sense.

    Bingo.

These kind of do-it-yourself webzines are another variation on the "ESPN effect" you cited in your other thread. The guy sounds like he's got nothing more than the same info we all have, yet he spins it so he looks like an "insider." Probably just some kid in his basement, however.

After Tuesday’s hires, the only job remaining on the Packers’ offensive staff is quarterbacks coach. McCarthy said he intended to talk to Alex Van Pelt, who he coached while at the University of Pittsburgh. Van Pelt was recently hired to be the quarterbacks coach at the University of Buffalo, under former Green Bay director of player development Turner Gill.

“Alex Van Pelt is someone I’m very fond of,” McCarthy said. “Alex is a young, up-and-coming coach. I will say he is under consideration. We’ve left messages. I have not spoken to him. Alex Van Pelt will be an excellent coach in the National Football League some day. It may be here.”
