Oh let me tell you...I work/live in Australia...A great country don't get me wrong...but as an American there are some things here that drive me nuts and I can see the US going down their road, some examples: 1. Taxes - Anyone earning over $75,000 pays 50% on top of a GST tax of 10%...No joke..Why ..Universal Healthcare 2. Gun Control - No semiautmatic rifles, pump shotguns, strict pistol laws..Registration and Licensing for everything, police can check your premises anytime. 3. Liberal courts and weak criminal sentancing 4. They just elected Kevin Rudd here...a democrat by Australian standards and this place is going straight down the tubes...No way he gets re-elected.

Obama, timetables, and cut-and-run
swede316 replied to finknottle's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Nice...But why dosen't anyone bring these interviews up? I'd love to see this thrown at him in the debates. Will never happen but someone needs to ask the hard questions. -
I'm only 39

Now he's really got my vote!!!

The "value" of a college degree
swede316 replied to John Adams's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Where I work...The degree is important...I have a masters and I got hired on at atleast $10K over my buddy who got hired with a bachelors. The guys with a MBA make mad cash and climb the ladder alot faster than us with a technical degree. -
Oh really? Let the games begin

Latest Reuters Poll
swede316 replied to Southern McButterpants.'s topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
He's down 12 percentage points in the last month. I think his change message is getting old and his vagueness on real issues is finally being questioned by intelligent voters. He didn't do as well in the recent "town hall" forum with McCain than you would have thought and McCain did very well. At the same time the issues with Russia/Georgia and Iraq going well are going to hurt Obama. -
And Alice Springs, Australia is the per capita stabbings capitol of the world! If they only let Aborigines have guns....

McCain must have done good at the town hall
swede316 replied to Wacka's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I watched the Q&A seesion. McCain did quite well. Obama...He had some pained answers. It further propogates the view that he does not do well without his teleprompter and probably the reason he refuses to engage McCain in town hall meetings. The three debates are enough for Obama. I would like to see the 5 or 10 town hall meetings in additon too the debates. What's he afraid of? -
Makes sense....Would like to see it done. Now I understand some roads would have to widened and such but it's a good solution. http://www.democratandchronicle.com/apps/p...3/808170323/tbd

Oil Companies make $1400... A SECOND
swede316 replied to Fingon's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I thought this was America...Making money is good..The more you make the better. These companies pay their fair share of taxes, provide thousands of jobs, and keep paying dividends to their investors (most likely you and me). I don't get this hate towards the oil companies. OPEC sets production rates not Exxon or Chevron. -
Tell me what this looks like to you

Obama's starting to sound like Hugo Chavez...
swede316 replied to SD Jarhead's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Hmmm...here's something interesting...Seems Mr. Obama voted to give the oil companies some of those windfalls in 2005!!! Another flip-flop: "On July 29, Obama voted for and Clinton opposed an energy bill that included incentives for greater production of oil, gas, coal and nuclear power and also encouraged conservation and a reduction in the regulation of the electric power industry (conference report adopted 74-26). The final passage culminated a grinding, four-year debate on energy policy." http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/ar...n-obama-voting/ -
Funny how he changes his tune after he's won...If he wins the White House I wonder what other positions will he change.

I wouldn'd call him a kook...He's an independent thinker. The man has accomplished more in his lifetime than 99.99% of us will ever have: Navy SEAL, Vietnam Vet, Professional Wrestler, Movie Actor, Mayor, Governor of Minnesota, NY Times Best Selling Author. He seems to me a man who can do whatever he sets his mind to. I would too....and I wouldn't put it past him getting elected if he ran and actually getting something done while in office.

Hey man...I have dog...he likes to roll around in dirt every now and then...but I bathe him once a week, so he's not that "unlean"...no reason to lop his head off. Better yet...Let him and one of these offended muslims go one on one...Bet my dog wins.

Preparing the Battlefield and the Graves
swede316 replied to /dev/null's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
F'ing outstanding!!! Couldn't have said it better myself. Someday the tree huggers and care bears will realize the true nature of what we are up against. -
This is absolutley retarded!!! http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,374564,00.html First it was a cartoon...now a puppy? People need to get a grip. This is 2008 not 1508.

Besides me? http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,359163,00.html http://www.metimes.com/International/2008/...ates_iraq/4246/ http://hardblogger.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2...1/26/42746.aspx Just to name a few. A few others also. They've already stated that's what would happen...An attack by Isreal would be considered a defacto attack by the USA. Granted it could be all talk. At the same time..You gotta be ready for it. -
I totally disagree....Having been in such a hellish situation...Wouldn't he think twice before so readily commiting the US to war? No one can better understand than him the costs. Alot of people may not realize his own son served in Iraq. I didn't find this out until recently. He didn't want people to know. He didn't want to politicize it and also to reduce the chance of his son being a target like Prince Harry.

I'll agree with that to a point. One thing the military does teach is that nothing is impossible. That you can do anything. It's a mindset to get things done. It also instills in you (in my case) honor and integrity. Now that's "my" problem with Obama...He seems to lack integrity to me. He never gives a clear answer to any tough question. That bothers me. Now that being said I've met officers who couldn't tie their own shoes. Military service shouldn't be a be all, end all qualification, but it should count. Especially if it was as distinguished as McCain's.
