Personally, I can't get past Belicheck's statement: “We try to do everything right. We err on the side of caution. It’s been that way for many years. Anything that is close we stay as far away from the line as we can.” If this current issue never happened, and you took a poll whether the Patriots were creative about bending the rules, don't you think it would be at odds with this statement? It seems to me they take pride in their "creativity". They may follow rules to the letter, but not the spirit. I also don't think that presser was Belicheck's idea. I think either Kraft and/or the NFL told him he had to do it because they're getting killed in the court of public opinion.

I've lived in the Boston area for over 20 years now, surrounded by Pats fans, and the ones I know are die-hard and very knowledgeable. A small, anecdotal sample, just as anyone's here. Are there bandwagon fans? Sure, as there are anywhere. Wait til the Bills are back in the playoffs, the bandwagon jumpers will come out of the woodwork. The thing about this area is that they have options for their sports fix-- Sox, Pats, Celts, Bruins; whereas it's the Bills and Sabres and the offseason in the Buff.

Geez, maybe we should play one of our home games at a neutral location every year. Oh, wait...
