  1. Soon, sure. But not necessarily 1.

Folks forget Dareus and JJ Watt had nearly identical first seasons. Which one would you rather have today?

We'll see what happens. I won't say I love Shaq the player, because I don't, but if he puts up double digit sack numbers and is disruptive this year, I can hardly fault Whaley for picking him.

Besides, there's more than enough ammo to FIRE Doug without resorting to "if Shaq sucks."

Not your biggest fan but you may think about editing your post
  2. Yeah, it's not a bad strategy but he kind of did it last year. He's going to get that big chunk now while he can. He saw what Osweiler got and he stinks. TT has value in this market and will get that payday to set his family up for a long time. In your scenario the upside may very well be higher. I just think that he's worried about the downside. He may take a shorter deal with the Bills but imthe guaranteed money won't go back.

You may be right and probably are. I am just thinking he already has enough for his lifetime if managed well. I am thinking his ego may kick in and he may see his Risk/Reward is worth it.

  3. Nice sarcasm dude but can you honestly say that this draft didn't have REX written all over it? You hate Whaley. Fine. But that doesn't change the obvious reality.

I don't hate Whaley the person. i think he is abysmal at his job and stated why in my post and after how he acted at the Rex firing he is a !@#$ing liar. You blame Rex for the draft but isnt it the GM who is responsible for drafting players that fit the scheme of the current coach? Would be nice if he didnt spend a first in an already injured player though.

  4. @rapsheet

Tyrod Taylor wont take less. Both sides open to reworking deal, cap numbershttp://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000785278/article/real-possibility-tyrod-taylor-open-to-altered-contract?campaign=Twitter_atn

I think he is open to more money this year without the multi year guarantees. He has a big year and he is gone cause he certainly wont stay after how he has been treated. if he has a bad year we arent locked in.
  5. Maybe a grass is always greener thing.

After all the bums the franchise has trotted out over two decades, there is still this delusion that a two time probowler in his first two years as a starter is an easy free agent/draft upgrade opportunity.

Does anyone have any history to suggest the likelihood without pointing out Russell Wilson (who's closer than many will admit including over the middle game) or Tom Brady, because yeah HOF QBs can be drafted late.

Yeah scream Romo- give up the farm and watch him shatter to pieces in week 6, or trade up for this years Geno Smith or Blake Bortles...

And guarantee 2 years at 20 million per to do so... But hey he brought his team to the playoffs 3 seasons ago after they missed 4 years in a row while he was also the QB.

  6. What an interesting and relevant point to the conversation in your head.

Trying to be light with you snowflake sorry I thought you were smart enough to get the reference. My mistake as I should have known. I will never make that mistake again. Continue as you were trying to project what happened 3 years ago as if it is relevent clownshoes it is so you.

  7.

So the real 30M question for Whaley and McDermott to answer is whether they believe the Miami game was a sign of the switch turning on for Tyrod, or a one-off anomaly. I'd hate to be in their shoes because they'll be second-guessed regardless.

During the Miami game I thought I noticed that Tyrod was taking Deeper Drops and maybe that was the ticket to being able to view the field better.

  8. I've acknowledged that maybe the front office doesn't think much of him. But Id have a hard time trusting a front office that has demonstrated a lot of incompetence to get it right if they release Tyrod.

I'll predict they are pretty much guaranteeing the next two seasons being washes if they release Tyrod and go with a rookie or McCown/Hoyer type.

If they get rid of Taylor it is clearly a move to secure their paychecks for 2 more years.. They release Taylor and bring in a new guy or a Romo type and they buy themselves 2 years. You have several in the front office IMO that are making all their decisions based upon how long it will keep them employed.

  9.

Most people can't see that. Bravo. Yes, committing 30 million to Tyrod Taylor does change the options you have at QB. The Bills themselves said that they would pick up the option if TT was in their LONG TERM PLANS. So if we pick up TT then you are selling us on paying a QB 30 million who can't hit receivers in stride, who can only throw 2 main routes, and depends on running to get first downs.

You also will then not pick a QB in the first 3 rounds for at least 2 years. That would be horrible just to sell fans on false hope who still think this group is a playoff team.

Why can't you pick up a QB in the first 3 rounds for at least 2 years?

  10. For once we are in agreement. That is what I see too. And you are right about his receivers beind wide open so often.

At nearly 33, never having played comptetitively and out of shape I think I am a better defensive back than half of the Big 12.

Do you think Bills could trade their first pick this year and 2nd next year for Browns 2nd this year and 1st next year take this guy at 2 and hope the Browns suck next year.

  11. I mean, losing a lot of games and taking a #1 overall QB works quite a bit. Not always, but you got a pretty good shot.

Yeah some QB's lose it suddenly That makes Romo no more of a risk than any other older QB, except those guys aren't available. Clearly, a Rivers or Brees is more ideal, but we can't get them.

You then are talking about basically WORST in League tank and do you think that happens given a team having the talent we have. You are talking about a 2-14 team and we may have surpassed that by time a Romo gets injured . So the whole tank thing is also a big IF.

  12. You think if Romo is healthy, he could suck? Whaaaaaat? He looked fine in 2016.

If he's hurt, we tank dude. It's easy. Ask the Colts.

Dude.... Have you ever seen a late 30's QB lose it suddenly? Coming off 2 years of MAJOR INJURIES one would be a complete fool to say it CAN'T happen. As Far as tanking It worked for the Colts so it is a guarantee it works for us... **** by that logic Cardale Jones will be a Hall of Fame QB because he lost his job in college and so did Brady. Stop it already.

  13. I mean, they are if's because they are opposites, He can't play a full season and return to form, while retiring, ya dig?

If Romo gets hurt, play Rookie and draft Darnold.

    If he's healthy, playoffs.

    That's really it.

WTF are you talking about if's because they are opposites. Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever..

    1. If he is healthy

    2. If he returns to form

    3. If he gets hurt and then decides to retire

    4. If he gets hurt and we are in position to Draft Darnald

5.Then there is this but of course this time is different (Note no USC QB has played a single down in the Super Bowl)

    http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2014/11/26/7292979/usc-quarterbacks-nfl-mark-sanchez-carson-palmer-matt-leinart

  14. Because he's going to want guarantees to even bother playing. And if he's healthy and reverts to form, he's locked up. And if he gets hurt again, he'll probably just retire, and we're out of it in a year anyway.

If you sign Romo for 2 years $40M and draft a rookie, you just get to evaluate that rookie earlier. Or Cardale. It's not as though the rookie is getting paid anything serious.

He'll want guarantees thus a team giving him 2 years based upon where he is in his career and what he has shown is Grossly overpaying. You have any examples of a 36+ year old player missing better part of 2 seasons reverting to Pro Bowl form? Seems like there are SO MANY IF's in your scenario (Healthy, Returns to Form, Retires if hurt)... Don't see how anyone but a desperate GM makes this move. Look at where we are now. A good defense and kicker and we get to the playoffs. And that good defense may simply be a scheme change.

  15. What's your definition of crazy dollars?

Houston has Osweiler with a $19M cap hit. You don't think we could pay more than them and still keep it reasonable?

Even at your 20 million I define overpaying as guaranteeing the contract for the second year. This is WAY too much to pay for a guy who hasn't played in 2 years. How can you make that guarantee in the desperate hope that he returns to 2014 when everything points to his body having deserted him. IMO there is a better chance of Tyrod returning to 2015 form with a healthy upgraded receiver corp than Romo reverting to 2014 form and starting 16 games. I would bet the under 10 starts on him next year with both hands if it were offered. You have any examples of a 36+ year old player missing better part of 2 seasons reverting to Pro Bowl form?

  16. I don't why people keep saying this. Does it make sense to spend $35 Million plus dollars for TT to play at Houston? TT is a mediocre bridge QB, he is not Tom Brady. If TT's contract wasn't outrageously cap expensive for a mediocre bridge QB, there would be no question about him being the starting QB in Buffalo this year.

Budy... Thanks for piping in but I'm not saying anything about TT in Houston.

  17. It depends on what they offer. If they low ball him, their chances are zero. If they pay him more than everyone else, they're probably close to 90%.

This simple concept continues to elude you.

What part of my post stating when I said he comes to the team if they offer crazy dollars didn't you understand? I personally think it has to be much more for him to come to Buffalo than a team with an in place strong defense only missing a QB. But Whaley is certainly capable of blowing up the next decade in a desperate grasp to save his job for the next 2-3 years. Do I think it is a good idea to get a guy that has shown he is at the point where he is breaking down, absolutely not. I can't think of a guy once he starts the cycle of missing big portions of 2 consecutive seasons just gets healthy again. If you can think of such a 36+ year old let me know and PS it isn't Peyton Manning because he played 16 games prior to missing an entire season.
