  1. George Lucas - a no talent hack who was lucky to have competent writers and film makers work his ideas into good films.

I don't know if you're being serious, and if you are, how much is true, but I lost a lot of the "magic" when I heard Alec Guiness suggested to Lucas that Obi Wan should be killed-off at the end of the first, saying it would strengthen the movie, but mostly because he was sick of the movie/dialogue (I know it's not Bill Shapespeare, Al, but you should be glad you were drawing a paycheck!). I was told that Lucas wrote all 9 episodes when he was laid-up for 6 months after a car accident.

  2. The logic doesn't change.

Also, how do you factor injury into a contract? I don't think you can not pay a guy if he misses games due to injury.

Sure the logic changes. Giving a guy $3M/year and him busting doesn't hurt you nearly as bad as giving a guy $12M/year and him busting.

As for the injury factor, you can give a lower base salary but tie incentives into games started.

  3. The question you should be asking is why in the hell we would resign Parrish who is ALWAYS hurt, and not resign Fitzpatrick? Now I am COMPLETELY convinced they have no future plans that are in any way logical.

The reason why Fitz isn't being extended yet is the Bills want to see if last year was a fluke or not, and because re-signing him, a QB, is an order of magnitude higher in money than Roscoe would be. Speaking of which, I'm all for a reasonable deal for Roscoe. But anything more than what he was making ($3.3M/year) is overpaying, unless there are provisions for missing games due to injury.

If moving Evans was only a cost-cutting move, why wouldn't they move Parrish instead at $3.3M a year?

Evans wasn't a cost-cutting move. From no aspect does "saving money" make sense as the main reason to trade him.

The link you posted says he's now in the last year of a contract that pays him an AVERAGE of $3.3 million/year. That doesn't mean he was scheduled to be paid $3.3 million in 2011.

Here's a link to rotoworld's "player page" for Roscoe Parrish:

    http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/3197/roscoe-parrish

If you then click on "view contract details" near the top of the page, you get a pop-up that reads as follows:

I don't know how accurate rotoworld typically is about contract details, and I don't know when the $500,000 roster bonus was due to be paid (could have already been paid). But if Rotoworld has the details right, if (I said IF) you wanted to get out from under 1 WR contract in 2011 to save money, you would save more by moving Evans than by moving Parrish.

True, Parrish would be paid $1.5M this year. But after getting his $1.1M bonus, Evans only saved the Bills $2.6M this year.

  5. After looking at last year's roster, I'm changing mine a little:

Quarterback (3): Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tyler Thigpen, Brad Smith

Running Back (3): Fred Jackson, C.J. Spiller, Johnny White

    Fullback (1): Corey McIntyre

Wide Receiver (6): Stevie Johnson, Donald Jones, Marcus Easley, David Nelson, Roscoe Parrish, Naaman Roosevelt

Tight End (2): Scott Chandler, Mike Caussin

Offensive Tackle (4): Demetrius Bell, Erik Pears, Chris Hairston, Ed Wang

Offensive Guard/Center (5): Eric Wood, Andy Levitre, Chad Rinehart, Kraig Urbik, Geoff Hangartner

Defensive End (4): Marcell Dareus, Dwan Edwards, Alex Carrington, Spencer Johnson

Defensive Tackle (3): Kyle Williams, Torell Troup, Michael Jasper

Outside Linebacker (5): Chris Kelsay, Shawne Merriman, Danny Batten, Antonio Coleman, Arthur Moats

Inside Linebacker (5): Nick Barnett, Kirk Morrison, Andra Davis, Kelvin Sheppard, Chris White

Cornerback (5): Leodis McKelvin, Drayton Florence, Terrence McGee, Aaron Williams, Reggie Corner

Safety (4): Jairus Byrd, George Wilson, Da'Norris Searcy, Jon Corto

    Punter (1): Brian Moorman

    Kicker (1): Rian Lindell

    Long Snapper (1): Garrison Sanborn

PS: Aiken, Pianalto, Forrest, Elzy, Heard (or Jasper if Heard makes the roster), Rogers, Eddins, Nesbitt

Compared to last year's opening day roster, mine has 1 more WR at the expense of 1 fewer safety, and 1 more DT/NT at the expense of 1 fewer DE.

  6. I guess they don't want to see Fitz get killed based on a coaching decision. Makes sense, but I would like to see how he does against first teamers

Same here. But not at Fitz' expense. Thigpen, sure.

Do you watch the games? Bell's not great, but he's not God awful either.

    Yep.

I bet ole Chan wishes he could have gotten Hairston into more games this pre season......

Its a touchy thing with Chris Hairston....he has played a ton but when they put him in I bet he graded out extremely well.......

    Wang is gonna get cut

Hairston was injured for a good portion of camp.

  7. Like anyone on this board knows what "relations with a woman" feel like. You'd have been better off asking the pool raft !@#$er.

(Triumph the Insult Comic Dog to infant with mom at a Star Wars convention): "that will be the last time you see female genitalia."

  8. Well, you might think I have never posted any reasons why I have an opinion, but you'd be wrong again. That's OK, though. We don't have to agree. (Though, I have agreed with some of your posts in the past.)

As I already posted in this thread, I think Nix hasn't done much to address the OL. This is not a unique assessment on my part. Many talking heads in the media and, yes, even some NFL insiders agree with this assessment.

Recapping: The o-line hasn't been very good since it was totally dismantled the last year Jauron was here and Nix has brought in little help for it since. Wang might just be cut and Hairston is a rookie and depth. This year, Hangartner is on the bench, Wood is at a new position, the coaches aren't sure if Levitre or Reinhart should be starting, or Bell or Levitre, it a given there is a new starter at RG (vacated by Wood), and also at RT. That is a lot of change since 12 months ago and change doesn't equal improvement. Have you ever played o-line? It's a team within a team. It's a gestalt that takes time to develop. It's not a microwave bake of the 5 biggest guys.

As far as the health kick: let's take Bell for an example. He may be healthy now, but he's been struggling to keep his job. One might call that definitely better or improvement, but others might see it quite differently.

My assertion was that the Bills' OL would be better than last year. Apparently you thought I was saying it would be a top OL. My mistake for being so unclear.

  9. I saw most of the 1st half. The Bills' starters looked good (can't wait for Merriman to get in there and for Dareus to be 100%) and both teams were not playing vanilla (the Jags were blitzing and stunting). The horse-collar call was BS. A "horse collar" tackle is being dragged down by the behind-inside of the shoulder pads. What is worse is that they missed (ignored) McGee getting clipped trying to chase the Jags player down on that same play. Also that PI call on Florence was brutal.

  10. Indeed. You aren't the King of building arguments from negative premises for nothing. (Don't worry you weren't the only one that thought Trent Edwards looked great last pre-season.)

But, I see that you actually did put a thought down to support your claim that the OL is definitely better later in the thread. My bad on that. Unfortunately, the less injured means better thing only lasts as long as the line suffers no injuries, which given the recent past has been fleeting.

Again, oh, the irony. And sorry, but I didn't think Trent Edwards looked good last pre-season. So much for accusing others of building arguments from negative premises.

I gave you the reasons why I think the OL will be better. Why do you think it will be worse?

  11. my brain. if i'm off, i'm not off by much. if anyone tries to tell me we're favored against the Raiders, they're kidding themselves. ultimately, the point stands - there's a negligible chance 4-0 happens.

And why. pray tell, wouldn't the Bills be favored against the Raiders, in Buffalo?
