  1. I have to say, as much as I'd like to see this guy in a Bills uniform this fall, this leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. When he signed up for his free ride to the Air Force Academy (a great school, by the way), he knew he was signing up for a (minimum) two-year service commitment after graduation. Now he wants to be let out of that commitment because he's got better things to do with his time. What about the AFA grad who gets an awesome offer to go work for Goldman Sachs after graduation? Does they let him out of his commitment? What about a female AFA grad who wants to try out for the Olympics? Do they let her out? Doesn't seem right to me...

I agree with your sentiment and I don't think anyone has a duty to help the academies recruit Division 1 athletes. But the services have historically allowed active duty members to participate in the Olympics (every American in the Biathlon, for example) and I always wondered how Stan Smith stayed on the tennis tour while he was an active captain in the US Army.

  2. After going along with Doug Whaley (didn't work out) and Tim Murray (didn't work out), Ownership is fixated on the theory that third time's the charm. The fixation has turned into an obsession with 3's. Hence drafting Tr'e White, interviewing Trey Brown third after Beane and Gaine, meeting with Tre Boston.

    Anyone have a better theory?

And if RG III is a free agent, ...

  3. I've been reading a lot of critical pre-draft press lately about two guys who were bank-on-it First Rounders:

Christian McCaffrey is a wimp who lacks the muscle or speed to separate in the NFL.

Jabrill Peppers doesn't have an NFL defensive position and with his bad hands forget about him on offense.

So for the sake of argument: who gets drafted higher and has a better career? (I know that's two questions but gimme a break here.)

I say Peppers. He won't be a legit Pro Bowler but some D-coordinator and ST coach will find enough uses for him to stay in the league for years.

  4.

trashing Jerry is a bit disrespectful IMO..........

I think you missed the point of the comment.

Had some easy concentration drops, not "twitchy" fast and plays like a big body guy without being super tall. Straight line speed is fast, but takes a while to get in/out of his breaks.

That's pretty much all I could figure out. Scouting reports say he's not a good blocker, but he looks solid ... plays mean.

Would much rather have him in the 2nd and a game changing CB/S/TE in the first.

    Thanks for the analysis.

  5. OK, all the way back to my original question. (And BTW, thanks for all the serious and thoughtful answers.)

Today it looks like they're keeping Tyrod. If so, his guarantied money (forget about any restructuring -- the man will get paid his coin one way or another; it's only a question of how/when, bonus on a date certain or salary over time) means he's here at least two more years, possibly longer, and he's next year's starter.

That means to me it would be dumb to waste a high (first 3 rounds) draft pick on a QB this year. The Bills need instant impact/help from a lot of positions. WR? S? CB? OL? A rookie QB won't play anytime soon and while he's tying up a roster spot and his share of cap space he can't contribute anything until at least 2019.

That's what Cardale was drafted for: the long-term future. So I think keeping Tyrod clinches Cardale's future for at least three years, whether he's #3 or #2 in 2017. And I'm wondering again how they develop him, since committing to Tyrod commits to Cardale.
