  1. Did the players we lost actually make the other teams better. Jax is still losing, The Jets although they beat us are not world beaters this year. San Fran had a decent defense before, but now they are playing darn good offense. I don't think our 3 are making that big a difference. Poz is staying healthy, Whitner doesn't have to play a different position each week, but he is still not an impact player, and Maybin..............

  2. You forgot to mention the fact that Barnett has two INT's as well, but I agree we should have kept Poz he is younger and would have gotten more years out of him.

I didn't like Maybin but it is obvious now, we were asking two much from the kid. Playing OLB come on. We should have used him like the Packers use Mathews, just rush the QB every time, don't worry about defending anyone. Look at Maybin this year for the Jets, alls he does is rush the QB and he is getting pretty good at putting pressure on him.

I don't believe maybin has had an impact in the last two games, against us or the Pats. Yes he has made a few plays this year non of which were in crunch time or at a time when it made a definite impact on the game. And that can be said of many players in the NFL.

  3. Let me add some feedback here, although a bit dated. My wife worked for a NFL referee (umpire) about 15 years ago. Referees are employed by the NFL for the entire year. They did not meet as a "team" during the week. The league would review the game tape and provide written feedback to each member of the crew for every play. Why did you make this call, why were you not in the correct position, why did you not make this call, that type of thing. The crew met via conference call after the feedback. Crews are graded for every game. Better crews get post season assignments. Higher rated refs from each crew get picked for Super Bowl.

With the progression of video, I now would imagine that they get DVDs with this information rather than written form.

    Thank you for the info.

  4. We place a enormous amount of blame on Ref calls, but correct me please. Aren't they parttimers. By that unlike officials in other sports they are not solely employed year round by the NFL. They actually go their separate ways instead of viewing tape together throughout the week to improve their skills.

  5. Is there any rules to stop this? I mean, what stops teams from sharing every bit of info? The Jets really need us to lose with their schedule getting tougher and ours getting much easier.

i hope he does give them the blueprint. They don't have the time nor players to implement it. Also, I believe when we see it again, we,l slice and dice it with the running game.

  6. Good coaching with a week to prepare tweaking your execution should always land you on top. Jets had that. They out guessed our O by great disguise using a nickel back to defeat short routes while showing blitz, then dropping to into our routes.

We had three critical points that cost the game IMO Fred's fumble and the two PI penalties. Not being argumentative, calls are calls.

A better barometer will be in NY in three weeks, both teams with equal time to prepare.

  7. Agreed in all, but the sack. That was Chandler's error. He should have blocked miller first before releasing. he did not recognize the blitz. i believe part of Bell's problem may also have been the changing of levitre and rhinehart @ LG. You need to know what your linemate is going to do. not enough time working with rhinehart. We will see next week. That to me will be key. I believe the starting lineup needs to be set at that time.

  8. Ok, I get what you're saying now. I definitely wasn't impressed by Evans' last two seasons, but I think he still had an intrinsic value to the offense that now has to be replaced. He wasn't double covered on every single play, but he was a big distraction in the secondary even when not producing numbers. Is there a player on the roster that can fill that role? We'll see. If there's no drop-off in our vertical capabilities, then I officially applaud the trade.

If it is vertical that is important, then Roscoe can run that route at least once or twice per game. Then if he is not picked up on double team he gets thrown to, otherwise "short" receivers are open. Yes, Evans was our speed guy, but he would have been more productive had he run crisp curls, slants and outs consistently. Obviously the staff didn't think he was and felt his "long" game wasn't enough.

  9. I personally find the proliferation of nationalism obscene. I don't want religion forced down my throat and I don't want government forced down my throat. The best part of our constitution is its allowance for changing the document itself, which means that the best part of our country is the people in it and their abilities and ideas. The constitution itself was written by people who if alive today would find the world unrecognizable to what it was when they were alive and their greatest legacy is that foresight and providing later generations a way to deal with what they knew they could never know.

In reading your response, I wonder if you were given the opportunity to study world and american history in school, or was it just another watered down curriculum that offered it as an elective.

First. They were reading the "Declaration of Independence", the reasons for rebelling against England. It was not a document for establishing a nation.

Second. Before the "Constitution" was the "Articles of Confederation", a document which loosely bound the individual colonies -which were in effect separate countries-. However, those colony/countries did in fact force religion upon any one who wished to settle within their borders.

Third. The "Constitution" was drawn up after the "Articles" failed. This all happened well after the "Declaration" in 1776. The other documents came in 1783 and 1789. The main thrust of the "Constitution" was to create one nation with a weak non intrusive federal government. The 1st Amendment which was adaopted later was to protect your right to freely practice any religion you wish without the government telling which one, in addition to other rights.

Finally. If a TV station wishes to air what it did, and you don't like it, you are free to mute or turn it off. That is your right.

  10. Yup. It seems unthinkable that there wouldn't be a draft, but plenty of sports leagues don't have drafts. It's just one part of the CBA. The NFL makes a ton of money off their draft, so it's pretty much a mortal lock that it comes back in some form, but beyond that, it's hard to say much. If the lockout lasts over 13-14 months, we probably won't have a 2012 draft at all.

Another interesting tidbit that pertains to draft order is that Andrew Luck, assuming he graduates, may be eligible for the supplemental draft. Regardless of what order is decided on for the regular draft (assuming there is one in 2012), the supplemental draft order is always chosen randomly. So the dude may have some control over where he goes, at least in the sense of having multiple options.

Please elaborate. The NBA, MLB, and NHL each have drafts. minor sports may not, but the money there isn't even close to the major sports leagues.

  11. Avoiding the hammering that we took from the jets and may take at seasons end, a comment was made during the Pats* game that drew my attention.

The jets have been good enough to beat teams with losing records, but not good enough to beat teams with winning records.

    Against teams with WR - 1 - 3.

    Against teams with LR - 7 - 0.

    Against team with ER(mia) 1 - 0.

Their final games are against Mia (6-6), Pitt (9-3), Chi (9-3), Buf (2-10).

It's possible that if they lose to the next three teams they're season may or may not hinge on the buffalo game. That would be sweet imho.

  12. Having talent is not the issue. The real issue is how does your talent level compare to the opposition. The Pats and Jets and to a lesser extent Miami are still more advanced than the Bills are at this stage of their multiple year rebuilding process. In the next draft the Pats have multiple picks in the first three rounds. The gap with them will widen.

There are plenty of clones here who believe that the Bills are knocking at the door. What they don't realiize is they still have to travel many miles before they can get at that door to knock on it.

Talent is the issue as well as familiarity with the system.

    A.) System -

1.) offense began to jell after game 3 and coincidently with change of QB's.

2.) defense began getting it in game 9. players began reacting to the situations, instead of thinking, reading, then reacting.

    B.) Talent -

    1. Rookie linemen (Carrington and Troup) have taken longer than we expected to learn the system, but appear to be coming on. We'll be able to evaluate their skill level over the next 5 games.

2.) We need LB's desperately. Poz at his point, IMHO, is the only one with true talent (it can be argued how much, but nonetheless the only one IMO).

As to the other teams in our division and their relative position vis-a-vis Buffalo. The Dolphins and Patriots are both close to us in points allowed and yards given up per game. Where we have been lacking is turnovers. Not being in reactive mode much of the season teams have been able to protect the football against us, until recently.

Therefore it is my belief that an infusion of Talent will propel this team upwards in the coming seasons.

  13. Yeah that Nix is a genius when it comes to picking up fringe players off practice squads!

How did that Merriman "steal" work out?

I've always heard that the way to the Super Bowl is to be able to spot journeyman players that other teams don't want. Sweet!

I don't believe Merriman was picked up for this year. After the season his health will be evaluated and he will be offered an incentivized contract imho. His cost was minimal then and would be minimal again.

  14. We've beaten two 2-8 teams......

We also went to two overtimes and lost by 3 to playoff contenders. I remember CG saying it may take 3, 5, or 8 games to get it. It looks like it took 5 for offense and maybe we got it at 8 for the defense. This could be a very defining game this week. We're not going to be a playoff player this year, but wins over contenders in the remaining games will make our drafting and positioning of free agents much clearer.

  15. I am a huge Fred Jackson fan. I will admit that he looked great against Baltimore but has looked slow against KC and Chicago. I wonder if he is injured?

    KC defense = 3.8 ypr 89 ypg

    Chi defense = 3.5 ypr 83 ypg

So, do you actually believe it is just Freddy and our rushing offense?

  16. All people ever said was we needed to be bad enough to be able to draft a QB in the top 5. Well guess what we are going to be bad enough to draft a QB in the top 3 most likely at least top 5. We are bottoming out we are finally are going to gut the roster and the front office (You really think Ralph is going to keep a front office that built a team that went 2-14 and hasn't been to the playoffs in over a decade).

We needed to do this we need a franchise QB and we need a change in the front office that hopefully a 1 or 2 win season will bring. All in all its going to suck to watch this team but we needed to this bad in order to turn this franchise around there needed to be a low point and this looks to be it.

Nix and Gailey will be fired (Much like Cam Cameron was fired in Miami after one season) and Russ will be fired as well. We will hopefully bring in a another teams assistant GM to run the show and gut the organization completely. While we pick up a young up and coming coordinator to coach the team.

So yeah its pretty ****ty but maybe this was a necessary evil we had to go through?

Bottoming out, yes a good thing, but Ralph is not canning anyone this year. These guys were brought in with the expectation that we would not make the playoffs this year. A plan was presented and accepted.

  17. Well I don't know if you rode your dinosaur to the test in the day but my teacher said I got the highest score in the whole school. 900 out of 1000 is like 90 out of 100 which is an A which is the highest score. I am also pretty smart in IQ that way even better because I have a 93 out of 100.

Hey Jimmy, i gots to tell you man. The numba is 1600. In fact I was really pissed cause I only gots 1392. I couldn't find the peoples who did the gradin' so's we could talk. But what the hey, I still wound up with a nice gig anyhows.
