I’m honestly confused as to what you wanted to see. He played in every game, they gave him the ball….did you want him to get 15-20 touches each game? Do you think they told him to “not run as fast as you can”? What exactly were you looking for?

What I'd love to see is Cook juke some guy out of his shorts and get out into the open field.

  2. I actually took the time to watch Blackshear's college highlights and came away with a few things.

    1) Runs well between the tackles. Follows his block, makes the cut and gets upfield quick.

    2) Does not give up on plays. Saw quite a few examples where he was able to bounce out and finish a play when the initial hole was plugged.

    3) Very natural catching the ball. Soft hands and catches in stride. Saw a few where he plucked low throws from inches off the turf transitoned smoothly North-South again.

    4) Made lots of chunk plays. Plenty of 10-15 yarders... but is not a home run threat as he does not have the hyperdrive gear when he gets loose.

Also noticed in the preseason games that he is actually pretty active on special teams.

Very much doubt he makes the cut, but it would be nice to see him on the practice squad as a sorta of poor man's James Cook.  If Cook were injured he could fill the role.

Running is about hitting the hole and making a cut and getting 7 to 15 yards.  We've seen Cook do that, so he's shown he can play running back. He hasn't been used yet in places where he might explode.

Agreed.  He can hit the hole and make the cut.  Required in the NFL.  I'm still waiting for that WOW play.  Looking for something on the level of the the precision and polish that Shakir has shown at WR against starting DBs..

  4. Gonna be the voice of dissent.  In the preseason, it's been 7 runs and 2 catches and they have all looked.......fine......but not special.  Even in the video above, he simply followed his blocks and broke one crappy arm tackle. Not exactly a special play.  Holding off on the accolades until he shows me more.

  5. Blackshear for PS for sure.  Made some nice runs and pass receptions and looked smooth doing it.  Not a jitterbug by any means, but he seems to know when to time his cuts.

I thought he was done for the game after the injury but when the camera caught him on the sidelines you could just see how badly he wanted to be out there, ankle or not.  Although he did not touch the ball once he came back in, he willed himself to there and the coaching staff rewarded that force of will.

That's the kind of attitude and player I want to see on the PS.

He's not Singletary or Moss or Cook.  He's not this years Duke Williams.  He may never see a snap in a regular season NFL game for the Bills or any other team, but it sure as ***** won't be because he quit on himself. Dude wants it, and that kind of attitude is great for team culture.

I did see Keenum on the list of 7 people struggling.

Interestingly, Mitch Turbisky may be getting passed by Rudolph on the Steelers.  If that happened, would Mitch be back?  (Rudloph is better than people think, so him winning the QB competition should not be surprising)

Don't be fooled by "Preseason Rudolph".  Rudolph always looks good in camp/practice/preseason but falls apart when the bullets start flying.

why are we discussing all this in a thread that just re-caps a game we all saw with flowery words.  With so many game re-play options on the Internet this has all become a bit stale and boring.  You can read the Buffalo News reporters after a game and get the same drival.

Because it's a discussion forum, perhaps?

  8. I guess I am a yay-sayer.  After such a long drought, I am sincerely happy that we are now consistently fielding a legit playoff caliber team. That being said, I expect the Bills to win this one handily.  The Bills have demonstrated again and again they can rattle rookie QBs.  Mac Jones is.......a nice story, but he's not the second coming of Brady. We got this.

I just hate worrying about a fumble whenever he runs with it. He also seems to drop too many passes. Hate to say lack of concentration cuz I'm not in his head, but drops and fumbles are holding him back. IMO. Hard to trust him with the ball.

Yes, same for me.  Numbers aside, it just seems like Singletary does not have the "it factor".  It's hard to explain, but in crucial moments he can't be counted on to make a spark or a statement play.  The 2nd effort.  The "angry run".   All too often it's "Singletary, open in the flat.....and he drops the ball" or "It's 3rd and 2, here's Singletary off the left side......and it looks like he's a foot short".  Hard to quantify.

  10. 3 years in, and I still don't have this guy figured out.

On one hand, his yards per carry has been consistently good.  5.0 yards per carry this season.  He's our leading rusher.  He's a willing an able blocker.

On the other hand, when the time comes for him to make a crucial first down (12 this year, on 80 carries, and just 3 broken tackles) or punch it in the end zone (6 career TDs over 3 years), he always seems to come up short.

He coughs up the ball at crucial moments (5 fumbles this year).

When he has an open field ahead of him, he drops the easy pass  (10.7% drop percentage).

I like the way he runs..until the Bills really NEED a play to happen.  Then, he's the last offensive player I want to touch the ball.

So, what is he?  Good player?  Bad player? Just a guy?

  11. News Flash: Diggs, Beasley, Sanders, Knox, Davis and even McKenzie are all important "cogs".  A machine is a GREAT metaphor here, because all of those "cogs" work together to make the motor that is the passing offense run.

Yesterday it was 100% Beasley, but you have to remember that his performance did not happen in a vacuum.  What other players are doing on the field at the same time greatly impacts the performance of the individuals catching the ball.  Play to play, game to game week to week.

Without the threat of the other pass catchers and Allen out of the backfield, any one WR can be neutralized. With everyone doing their job, the sky is the limit.

I for one am perfectly happy with Diggs, Beasley, Sanders, Knox, Davis, etc etc trading off big performances week to week.  It's a team sport and it's the key to success.

  12. Right now the Bills have:

Singletary: I'm not sold on him.

Moss: Also not sold on him.

Antonio Williams: Looked ok in spot duty, but only 12 carries.  Can he block?  Not sold on him.

Wade: Intriguing non football guy. Fast but old and still learning the game. Likely stuck on the practice squad again.

    Breida:  JAG.

    Taiwan Jones: Less than JAG

So far no UDFA RB's added.

So what's the plan?  Will Oline pickups improve the run blocking?  Will they grab another team's castoff? Is there a Fred Jackson type UDFA just waiting to be signed?
