  1. Good teams win ugly. That's the crux of it.  For all of the whining and crying, this is a well balanced and well coached team that does what it takes to win week in, week out.

At no point in this game did it seem like the Bills were in a panic.  They stuck to their game plan and executed it.  Even when the the Phins pulled ahead briefly in the 2nd half, I was not really worried, because on a despite the inopportune turnovers, the Bills consistently looked like the better team.

The fear and realization is this.  We have played teams this year and made so many unforced mistakes, and had so many bad Int's,  9 turnovers in the red zone this year .  Josh is costing us possessions and points.  He did it again in the NE game.  Down in the red zone before half time .  He had a chance to get rid of that ball underneath immediately to Diggs or Cook,  and he held onto the ball way too long looking for the endzone again instead of the checkdown, he got hit and and threw a pick,  if he throws the ball immediately to Cook,  that play probably goes for ten yards to inside the 5 yard line with 20 seconds still on the clock and two time outs.

His reluctance to not take the underneath options and checkdowns is killing this team.  It has happened all this year.  In the playoffs you can't expect to do this and advance.  This type of play is not sustainable in playoff games.  You need to make the most of your opportunities and limit the bad mistakes and throws leading to red zone turnovers.

He has been over throwing receivers this year a lot, and also throwing behind them as well.  I can tell you Josh has done this more this year than last year.   While going back and rewatching these games over again you really see these problems.  He either has a timing issue this year,  or he is letting go of the ball to late when the receiver is making their cut or break to the sidelines.

Josh truly has all the talent in the world, but he has made some really bad mistakes this year throwing the ball.  Luckily they have not cost him or this team more.  13-3 is still an huge accomplishment this year with our injuries on D.

The playoffs are all about survival,  costly red zone turnovers are going to eventually going to come back and bite you in the ass.

Better bench him then.  Seriously dude, go back read what you just posted.  Clearly Josh Allen is a total train wreck.

    He's "killing this team"?  Seriously?

Bring on Case Keenum, because clearly "Bad Josh" ain't gettting it done.  13-3 blows.

Forget the fact the he has put up 35 TDs through the air and 8 more on the ground.

Forget the fact that he played through an injury.

Forget the fact that his stats are remarkably close to last year's, in one less game, plus the quarters he sat out early in the year when the games were iced.

I guess that I watch games and over the past 7 I have seen a team that despite problems and shortcomings (something that EVERY TEAM IN THE NFL HAS) keeps on finding ways to win games.  They have done it with offense, with defense, with special teams.  Through the air.  On the ground.  They have pulled their own asses out of the fire---and that's what I mean by rounding into playoff shape.   It's not always about numbers.  It's attitude.  It's the effort of a the team as a whole.  Every team makes unforced errors.  Every one.  What the Bills have shown me this year is that over the 2nd half of the season, they have not let that stop them.

  3. I was super down on Cook all through preseason and early in the year but the guy is has slowly been winning me over down by down, block by block, play by play, run by run.  It's been slow, but he's made incremental improvement that has allowed his skillset to actually start showing up on the field and paying dividends.  Even the way he carries himself on the field is different.  More alert, more engaged, more energetic.  Early in the season he seemed kind of dazed and confused, whereas now he is much more present.

  4. The Allen/Diggs connection is back.  Elbow looks good

Dawson Knox has come on strong over the last several games.

Singletary and Cook have established a non-Josh running game.

The pass rush is generating pressure without Miller.

Milano and Emunds are playing lights out.

Hamlin is gonna be ok!!!  And the secondary is too.  Benford off IR and White with and INT.

Special teams? Hines just struck fear into the hearts of the opposition moving forward.

    Bring on Miami!

  5. One thing about the Bengals:  They have been pretty bad this year when it comes to dealing with scrambling QBs.  From that perspective alone, Allen is a nightmare matchup for them.  Also, this is primetime Allen.  He's gonna gash 'em for big chunks on the ground and then make 'em pay downfield.

    Morse is back.

    The weather is good.

The Defense will be motivated by all the trash talk.

Buffalo WILL be able to run against the Bengals.

Diggs are Knox are gonna have big games.

Sure, the Bengals are the media darlings right now, but the Bills are a top tier team that has been wisely keeping their mouths shut.  The silence is deafening.

    Bills 35.  Bengals 24.

  6. As you can imagine, I see a good bit of Bears football and they are truly a bad team, but Fields is the exception.  While nothing special as a passer, he is a truly impressive rushing QB.  Makes guys miss.  Leaves jocks on the grounds.  Take what should be huge losses and somehow turns them into huge gains.

It's not just a matter of putting a spy on him either.  The kid has some next level skills.  At 1000 yards rushing and 8 TDs, he's a legit starting RB who also just happens to throw the ball pretty well.

He's the only the thing that has made the Bears even remotely watchable this year.

On the other hand, he's very very boom or bust.  Takes a ton of sacks and puts up some bad INTS.  It's very much "Good Justin" vs "Bad Justin".

Here's hoping we get more of the bad than good.

We play like we did yesterday against the Chiefs, the Bengals or, if we get that far, the 49ers, Eagles or Cowboys and we get beaten. And there are weaknesses which we are relucant to or cannot address. If this was a one off, fine, but a lot of the issues shown yesterday have been persistent across the season.

Sorry, but I don't agree with this take.  Looking back, the Bills had an absolutely brutal schedule this year against quality teams and still managed 11-3.  They have not been blown out all season, and have managed to win the close games.  Game performances don't exist in a vacuum, and more often that not this year, the Buffalo Bills are a matchup that no team in the NFL wants.

  8. Oh wait, that 11-3.  We won?  Again?  11-3 you say?  Excellent!

I guess I just got confused by the endless stream of:

    The OC sucks.

    Frazier sucks.

    The defense sucks.

    McKenzie sucks.

    The tackling sucks.

Eff that.  This is a really good football team and a legit Superbowl contender.  Good teams win games, especially the close ones against talented teams in their own division.  Super happy today.

  9. 10-3 Feels great to me.  As I alluded to in a previous post, the last 6 weeks (now 7 weeks) since the bye have been tough for a variety of reasons.

    1) 3 back to back 2 INT games.  The good news is that we are no longer seeing forced balls to the middle of the field.

    2) Josh Allen has been playing with in injured throwing elbow for the since the end of first Jets game and 5 weeks since then.  The good news is that it is slowly getting better.

    3) There was a span of a few weeks where flu, injury, and 77 inches of snow severely disrupted the amount of practice time that Allen in particular and the team in general was able to get in.  The good news is that time is over.

    4) Allen didn't get the bounce back game I was hoping for today because quite frankly, the weather sucked.  The good news is we still beat a very good Jets team.

The Bills are in every game.  The games they have lost have generally been down to the wire.  Both Cincy and Miami have lost uglier this year.

Looks forward to the Miami game.

  10. Okay. Acknowledged. Sorry, but I'm not a super frequent poster, especially when you consider i go all the way back to the Rochester D&C days.

Thanks to all of the posters who responded with actual opinions and did not resort to personal attacks.

While i respect the opinions of those that think Von Miller has been "Great", I'm sticking with my "Very Good".  He's had a few big splash plays and garnered lots and lots of attention from the talking heads on TV, but on balance is not an elite, top tier guy anymore. Kudos to whoever pointed out the blown plays that somewhat offset the splash plays. Somebody in this thread compared him to Bruce Smith. Just no.

Another theory that drives me nuts is "well, you're not seeing the whole picture because he was saving himself for the postseason."  Sorry, but this is not a thing, because, guess what? Injuries happen. The NFL is a give it your all or sit on the bench league.

Given his age and injury history,  this was always going to be a risky, moonshot type of signing and it didn't pan out this year.

Finally, how about a little credit to the other improvements made across the defensive line? The emergence of Rousseau and Oliver and all of that added beef up the middle (I'm looking at you Lawson, Settle, Phillps, Jones) that no doubt helped Miller be Miller.  It's a two way street. I contend that if you plug a Jerry Hughes type of player into the same situation and he'd be having a "very good" year as well.

  11. It's been a tough 6 weeks since the bye.

3 games in a row with 2 INTS

    The elbow injury

Limited practice time due to said injury, team flu, and the weather.

    A Detroit "home" game

Amazing that the Bills managed 4-2 during that stretch.

But now, finally, the mini-bye. Extra time to rest and recover.

Allen is back at home IN BUFFALO for the first time since 10/30, the elbow injury is 5 weeks in the rearview, and the Bills have a loss against a division opponent to avenge.

Even great QBs have setbacks, but I think (hope?) that this is the week Allen gets his swag back.  300+ yards, 3 passing TD and another one on the ground.

  12. It's one bad game. Recency bias is a thing.

The stats say he's not terrible and is actually having a productive year.

In the 5 games he's played: 17 receptions, more than half of which have been for first downs.  3 TDs, which is good for 3rd on the team, behind Diggs (6) and Davis (4).

So easy to forget the tough TD catch he made between 2 defenders vs the Rams.

So easy to forget that in week 3 he had 7 receptions for 76 yards and a TD vs the Dolphins.

So easy to forget the Ravens game where the took a return out to the 40, caught a nice TD pass, and converted 3rd and 7 to a first down and hung on to the damn ball on the concussion hit.  The Bills went on to score on that drive.

But, yeah sure, he's a terrible joke player.

Granted, Shakir looks promising and will see more touches as the year goes on, but to call Lil' Dirty Lil' Dummy is just showing you have a short memory.

  13. I just want to see some ENERGY outta the guy.  He reminds me of my orange cat, Cooper, who expends no more energy than is absolutely needed.   Slow to the huddle.  Slow to the sidelines.  His longer stride looks.....slow.  Maybe it's deceptive.  My orange cat can really motor......when it wants to.  But it really really has to want to.  If riding the pine does not light a fire under this guy, maybe a ton of reps will?  What will motivate this guy to start playing like he did in college?

  14. Needs more carries and they should be at expense of Zach Moss, but yeah, I am worries.  Unscientifically, his body language is all off.  Looks uncertain out there, and defenses feed of that.

He is not his brother, that is clear.  Who are what he is remains in question, and we won't know if he only gets the call a few times a game.

  15. Jaquan Johnson looked last year in spot duty and again in preseason. Taron Johnson, Siran Neal, and Cam Lewis know the system and the rookies have held up so far.  Poyer is off to a great start this season.  More importantly, our base deep shell pass defense is designed to take the top off of a passing game.  Tua looked good last week, but I don't expect a repeat performance.
