1. Look, not everyone appreciates soccer, especially those who have never played it.  I happen to love the game.  I played it as a kid, and still play now, as a 33-old adult with knees about to give out.  I love playing it and watching it.  Can I explain why?  Probably not in a way that is convincing to someone who has never played it.

I ask those who don't like it to just lay off.  For Pete's sake, why can't you let the rest of us enjoy the game?  Are you scared of something?  What are you scared of?  That soccer will take off in America, and you will be left alone in your room?  When there is a national passion about the game (and there will be, give it time), you will care too.  You will want your Buffalo soccer team to beat the Miami team as badly as you want the Bills to beat the Dolphins.

Soccer is a beautiful game to play, and to watch.  It is extremely elegant, physical, and requires peak physical condition.  It also doesn't require anything but a ball and a bunch of people.

I will be watching the US-Mexico game as closely as I watch a Bills game.

Very well said. I think "sports" like baseball, golf, and auto racing blow, but that's just me. Plenty of other people like them, and that's cool. To each his own.

  2. Hi everyone.  I just wanted to introduce myself.  I am a 23yr old male.  I have been a Bills fan since '87 when I was 5.  I live in NJ, home to the eagles, Jets, and Giants fans.  All the worst.  I have tried to put up with it for as long as I could.  I finally moved to Northern Jersey where they are all Giants & Jets fans.  Got a job at an office where I am the lone Bills fan and my co-workers send me emails with the scoreboard from the Super Bowl with the giants.  I send them this: Eli.  Giants fans are the worst.  Anyway, I figured I would introduce myself.  I just had DirecTV hooked up this week and can't wait for the scrimmage tonight.  This year looks promising.

    Welcome, man.

  3. Ive been to the San Francisco show 3 years in a row. Very good each time. A couple things I like about it is it starts at 11am and wraps up at about 6.30pm. Leaves more time in the day to party.  This year we came back and had a barbacue(ribs). Also the setting on Pier32/33 just below the Bay Bridge and right next to downtown is beautiful.  Offspring were fantastic(as always) but they were on relatively early. Around 2.30pm I think.

    385317

I was a little surpised (and bummed) that The Offspring, coming on at 4:45, only played until 5:20. In fact, the only act I saw that played longer than 30-35 minutes was My Chemical Romance, who played about 40 minutes, probably because they were the last one of the night.

  4. I am going to the Warped Tour tomorrow at Mile High here in Denver. There are 81 bands playing on four stages. The main reason I'll be there is to see The Offspring. I assume they'll be one of if not the last band to play on the main stage, but so far I have not been able to find any kind of schedule.

Can someone who has been to another venue this year give me some kind of idea when the whole thing ended, and/or the approximate time The Offspring played? The music starts at noon, but if this thing runs until 11:00pm or later I'd rather not be there all day and all night. Any other specific bands you think I should be sure to catch? Thanks in advance.

  5. Here is a great story about Kelly's partner Alec and his family, sent to me by my Father in Law in Texas. I watched this show from week 1 and didn't realized until I got this email last week that I had met him a few times and kicked a soccer ball around with him back when he was 12 years old:

.... we got an absolutely delightful surprise call... from San Francisco.... and from our past. A really good Horatio Alger tale. Some of you know the beginning of the story about 15 years ago when I got a call at Omni Elevator where I was working with our son-in-law. It was from a local Doc that said he was sponsoring an immigrant Jewish family (boys Genia 10 & Alec 12) that just arrived from the Soviet Union via Isreal! He said Anatoly was an engineer with 11 years experience in elevators and he was looking for a job for him. Omni hired him but, his English was so poor he could hardly communicate anything... and certainly not in the technical elevator stuff. So, he went to work in an electric motor repair shop as a minimum wage laborer.

They lived here for about two years and we helped them furnish their appartment since they came with only their clothes and no money. They are VERY talented people. Natasha was a ballerina when younger and a superb seamstress... and Anatoly is also a classical pianist. She sewed costumes for the local theater and at night he played piano in the lobby of a downtown hotel.

After a couple of years their Russian friends in San Francisco convinced them to move there for more opportunity. They left in a VERY old Datsun and we gave them a credit card for emergencies. We never doubted they would return it... and, if they used it they would repay us.

In SF they did many, many, things to try to get ahead. Anatoly drove a cab for a while and many other things. Natasha made costumes for th SF Ballet, cleaned houses, etc. They tried a jewelry store and a few other things. Each time moving up a bit and finally Anatoly got his Professional Engineer license in CA.

After about five years, Anatoly was working for Wells Fargo Bank in their computer operation. And, Natasha had started a ballroom dance school. The boys were good students in school and GREAT dance students. By the time they were in their late teens they were competing nationally. Alec went to the world competition in England at about 19.

Got an email from Anatoly about 7 or 8 years ago and he said they finally bought a home. First thing I thought of was something 50 miles from SF where they could afford it. But, the next sentence said they got one with an ocean view for only $450,000!!!! Blew me away... and sooo pleased for them.

We had exchanged emails but not talked in a few years till tonight. Anatoly called to tell us Alec is on ABC's "Dancing With The Stars" with his celebrity partner actress Kelly Monaco, star of ABC's General Hospital. Each professional dancer teaches their celebrity partner all the dances and they compete with other dance professionals partnered with other "stars". They eliminate one couple each week and Alec and Kelly are now one of two finalist couples. They will compete next Wed about 7:00PM or 8:00PM Central and we will be watching! If you are interested you can see some video clips on this ABC web site. Also, get the exact time and see Alec's bio... http://abc.go.com/primetime/dancing/bios/alec_mazo.html

Besides Alec's pro carreer in movies and TV, Genia is studying to be a lawyer, and Natasha runs the HUGE dance school they started. Anatoly still works for Wells Fargo... but, now he manages 150 people!!! He said we MUST come to visit them but, if we do, we must stay with them. They now have a $2,500,000 home!

Thought you might be interested in that little story of some poor Russian Jewish immigrants!!!. Pretty amazing what hard work can do for ANYONE in America! More of us born with this opportunity should take advantage of it like they did!!!

Drivers Get Tickets After Meters Installed

CHICAGO (AP) - It sounds like the meter maid's version of a speed trap: A ticket for parking at a meter that was installed after you park your car.

But that's what happened in Chicago last week, where a handful of motorists returned to their vehicles and found parking meters - and tickets - that weren't there when they parked.

According to a spokeswoman for the city's revenue department it was all just an innocent mistake. The way Efrat Dallal explains it, the vehicles were parked on a stretch of roadway where the meters were temporarily removed during street construction. Then, she said, the meters were put back and the vehicles parked in front of them were ticketed.

But some motorists wondered if that was the case after at least one of the tickets was apparently postdated several hours after it was placed on a car.

"It really angers me," said Vince Tessitore, an attorney who found what for drivers is the equivalent of money on the sidewalk: a vacant and cost-free parking space.

"The city is strict enough in its parking restrictions already," he said. "Chicago gets plenty of revenue ticketing people by legal means without having to be deceptive."

Police department spokesman Dave Bayless said the department employee, whom he said is a traffic aide and not a sworn officer, said she mistakenly put the wrong date on the ticket.

Whatever happened, none of those who were ticketed on that short stretch of West Illinois Street last Tuesday night will have to pay up, Dallal said.

She said to avoid improper ticketing, notices will be attached to meters to alert police and others when the meters were installed.

U.B. did that exact same thing to me years ago. I used to ride my motorcycle to classes at the Main St. campus and parked my bike along with many others in this one paved area between a campus road and the sidewalk. After a couple years of doing this, I came out from class one day to find a new "No Parking" sign and every one of us had a ticket on our seat. These were real City of Buffalo tickets so you couldn't really just ignore them. I went to the head of Campus Security to complain and he basically told me "Too F'ing Bad" and I ended up having to pay it.

Sorry about the blank post, all. I am on a couple of rock radio stations listeners lists as well as the promoter House of Blues and therefore get the occasional email offering me two for the price of one tickets. Even though the amphitheatre/box office is a 2 minute walk across the street from my office one can only get the deal on-line through Ticketmaster. When doing one of these it is common for me to pay more for all thee BS charges than I did for the tickets.

  8. Tickets (Gigantour: Megadeth and Dream Theater)

    FULL PRICE TICKET US $42.50 x 2

    Total Building Facility Charge(s) US $2.00 x 2

    Total Convenience Charge(s)

    US $8.25 x 2

    Order Processing Charge(s) US $3.50

    Standard Mail

    No Charge

    TOTAL CHARGES US $109.00

Yes, that's right. I just paid $109.00 for two $42.00 tickets.  They were nice enough to not charge me for standard mail.  They charge $20.00 for overnight.

(For those of you that care - I *did* land my old company as a client.  Time to start my own shop.)

  9. You should get it for $199.99.  You'll be charged for it next month I think (in 4 payments if I recall).

The 4 payments of $54.75 is for new subscribers to Sunday Ticket.

You should've gotten an offer for a free Pay Per View movie (up to $3.99) as well - and it's easier than in the past.  Buy the movie, call them up and tell them what movie it was and get your credit.  Nice (although not as nice as just automatically doing it for you...)

Thanks. I upgraded my monthly package early this year and was afraid that might have made me look like a new customer.

  10. I've had Sunday Ticket every year since 1996, and every year in the Spring I get the early-bird auto renewal at a "discounted" price that gets spread over 3 or 4 month's payments. I hadn't seen any refererence or charge for it yet this year so I called them yesterday. This not very bright gal with a heavy accent was able to tell me I have it but could not tell me anything about when payments are to be made, etc.

Have any of you already been charged renewal?

Then today I get the June bill and finally there is a line item for it but no charge. Are they charging all subscribers later this year?

Lastly, there is a promotional insert with the bill for Sunday Ticket with a "Special Offer" of 4 easy payments of $54.75. Is that the early-renew price this year? That's another big jump (not like I won't pay it, though). Thanks in advance.

  11. based on the way the 2006 draft pool is shaping up at LT, i have no problem addressing that need next year........could be as many as 6 or 7 first round LT's from what i'm hearing.......

    354334

Yes, but keep in mind we willing be picking last in the first round :)

  12. I gotta agree that this list is way off. I can see why putting together such a list is not an easy thing to do, but come on, Joan Jett is listed but not guys like Petrucci, Steve Vai or Buck Darma from BOC? I must agree to with whoever commented on Richie Blackmore being too low - he should be much higher.

  13. Authentic Buffalo pizza & wings

definitely check out Luciano's - real B-lo cuisine in downtown Denver.....probably the best wings in the West

    343380

Cool. I have lived in Littleton/Centennial for almost 6 years now and never knew about this place. I will second whoever mentioned Red Rocks, as it is even worth going to (for free) in the daytime just to check it out. I don't know if they were mentioned, but Garden of the Gods and Cave of the Winds down in Co Springs are both worth the time. I will also agree with the person who suggested Buffalo Bills Grave/Lookout Mountain. They are just at the edge of Golden so you don't have to go far into the mountains and get a great overlook down onto Golden and the metro area. Then, hit the Coors Brewery for a free tour nearby. Best part is the free samples at the end - just avoid the regular Coors/Coors Light :-) And yes,

a Rockies game is indeed worth it just for the stadium itself. I like sitting up in right field for an evening game. You have the skyscrapers to your left and the mountains out to your right. The field is in Lodo so you hit some good pubs right after.

  14. So, you don't believe in a league wide conspiracy to keep the small-market Bills down?

Try this fact on for size: THIS SEASON the Bills play a team coming off a bye three times despite playing a game themselves the week before. I looked it up, and NO OTHER team has this anomaly occur more than once!!!!

Can this be a freak coincidence? No, not when I looked it up from the year before and it happened twice then too. So, five times in the last two years? No other team had this happen to them more than three times over the last two years!!

    Read it and weep:

WEEK 5 - Sunday Oct. 9 - Miami at Buffalo (Miami takes a bye in week 4, Bills play at New Orleans)

WEEK 8 - Sunday Night Oct. 30 - Buffalo AT New England (Pats bye in week 7, Bills played AT Oakland the week before! So, we play AT N.E. on a Sunday night, they take a bye the week before and rest, and we go all the way out west, and second week in a row on the road. Nice scheduling by the league. We get reemed.)

WEEK 11 - Sunday Nov. 20 - Buffalo AT San Diego (San Diego byes in week 10, and we play home against K.C. in week 10. Again, we are on the road to a team coming off a bye when we played the week before, and it is ALL the way to the west coast. This is totally ridiculous)

You don't believe this? Look it up for yourselves. NO other team has to play teams coming off byes when they played the previous week as much as the Bills. I haven't seen another team that this happens more than once to! Factor in that two of these are on the road, and I'd say we've got a story here. It should come as no surprise to us. When you've got a 9-7 team that gets less national televised exposure than stink pots like the Cowboys, Raiders, Redskins, Chiefs, Giants. . . you know that something sour is going on.

I felt it was my duty to report the painful truth here. I don't like it anymore than you all should.

    342033

I am not at all surprised at this. I meant to look this up myself because i was semi-expecting it, as this seems to become common practice with the Bills schedule. Just like the Sabres seem to get more back to back games with the second one on the road than any other NHL team. I am not saying I believe in conspiracy theories, but it does make one wonder what's up with that.

  15. Happy Birthday Colorado Mike.

    318144

Why thank you, and same to you! It's funny, here at work they put a happy birthday sign up on the lobby marquis for employee birthdays, and every single year, including this one, they forget mine. At least I can count on my TBD family.

  16. What an amazing movie.  Unlike any other movie I've ever seen.  A lot of good action sequences coupled with visuals that were impressive and unique.  I was a little bit worried when I saw the previews that the look of the movie would get annoying after a while.  That didn't turn out to be a problem.  Quite the opposite in fact.

My recomendation comes with one caveat.  If you don't like violence, naked girls, or swearing then this isn't the movie for you.

    294095

It was kind of artsy and weird, but I'd liked it. Kind of the opposite of a chick flick, so unless your wife or GF likes tons of violence and T&A, see it by yourself or with the guys.
