1. Hey to everyone who was around back when I first posted here in the 1999 playoffs (no comment  ). It's been a long time since the Titans have faced the Bills, but as it's that time again, I'm back.

Here's to a good game this weekend (obviously I'm hoping for a different outcome than most of you). Should be pretty close.

I remember you as one of the more classy and intelligent fans of our opposition. I'm glad to see your team has turned it around, as I've always thought Jeff Fischer is pretty cool. I can't say I can wish you luck this week, but I'll wish you guys lose to us without suffering any injuries.

  2. Few realize that there are people, and a significant number of people at that, across the border in Canada.  While the Buffalo Metro Area might stop at the Niagara River, there are a significant number of bodies between Rochester and Hamilton that probably makes this one of the larger markets in North America.  This goes back about 15 years, but a local readio station did a study and found that Buffalo + Niagara Falls + Hamilton would constitute one of the top-15 markets in the U.S.

To further validate your post, look at the list of largest cities in the country and you will see San Antonio listed as the 8th largest. However, I lived there from '86-'99 and know that the reason they are that "large" is SA continually annexes the growing suburbs. So practically the entire MSA there is within city limits and it makes the city rank larger than it really is, whereas in most major cities the population is based on city limits, which generally are not all that far in any direction from downtown.

  3. Let's take a look at the Broncos TV schedule so far, shall we?

SIX games shown on national TV there, including two blocks of THREE straight weeks.  This doesn't even include the virtually national games that took place during weeks 8 (http://gribblenation.net/nflmaps/08-CBS-L.gif) and 9 (http://gribblenation.net/nflmaps/09-CBS-L.gif).  Now take a look at the map for week 14:

ENOUGH BRONCOS!!!!  Let's see some other teams!!!  Heck I'll even take more Colts and Pats!

I hate it too. Then again, I live in metro Denver so I'm hosed either way.

  4. This is pretty much how I feel about it.  Part of me wants to say there's no way in hell people try to push games in one direction of the other, but I've just seen way to many things to think the contrary.

This isn't to say I think most games are "pushed".  But I think when the opportunity is there and people really want a game to go a certain way, things are worked out.

And I didn't see last nights game.  The last Super Bowl was the "straw" for me.

I'm in the camp with you two. Unfortunately our Bills never seem to be in the group that the NFL wants to come out ahead, so although the ultimate prize is not out of the question I feel we have to overcome more adversity than a number of other teams.

  5. Quite the opposite, there is a penalty on virtually every play which could be called, or not called. It would be simple for an extra call here, and a non call there, to effect the outcome of a game or shave a couple points.

    787119

Exactly correct. Especially the non-calls, as most fans focus on the bad calls, not the bad non-calls.

  6. He truly is a terrible announcer.  It's bad when you find yourself routinely shouting corrections at him while watching the game at home.  Has a propensity to confuse offensive and defensive players' names, a feat seldom accomplished by professional broadcasters.  Then doesn't even bother to correct his glaring mistakes.  Justin Geisinger on the blitz!

    747964

I don't think he's quite that bad, but I agree with you on "Justin Geisinger on the blitz". I was like WTF?

  7. I'm in Denver, and it was scheduled to be on the NFL Network (DirecTV channel 212) this morning. It has been on my record "To Do List" for days. When I got up this morning I went to triple check it was still there and it wasn't. I checked the schedule and it was no longer listed. So, it definitely was not just a local market thing. Probably it is simply bad luck with the local channel rebroadcast precedence thing, but, it seems like that would happen in other markets to other teams as well. Maybe it has somewhere, but I have not heard of it. In any event, I don't get how some local channel rebroadcast preference should have any bearing on me not being able to watch it in Denver!

  8. Oh come on;  everyone knows that the value proposition for the 2006 season comes from understanding the mission critical success factors for the team and getting the players focused on their core competencies using a best practices approach.  At the end of the day, this is how the Bills can create a win-win senario for the season.

    717948

Sounds like we work for the same company.

  9. We can use that #22 to pick Antonio Cromartie or Tye Hil how awesome would that be trade a proven corner for a rookie corner only to pay the rookie corner big money that would rule.....

    665874

You think the #22 pick is going to have a contract that would give us a cap hit anywhere close to Nate's 7.22 million?

  10. As with all ideas and plans it can stand some tweeks, but all in all, I think its a great Idea. One of the few people I have seen contributing positive upbeat solutions.

    665648

I completely agree. Plus, I'd have little trouble calling them WNY Bills or just NY Bills for that matter. Not ideal, but it beats the hell out of having them move far away.

  11. per nfl.com...

    SKINNED

Without an extension of the collective bargaining agreement, this could be one of the bloodiest weeks the NFL has witnessed, with more teams cutting more players at this time of the year than the league ever has seen.

And no team is in worse shape than the Washington Redskins, who some league insiders believe will have to cut anywhere from 15 to 20 players.

Those numbers will depend on how many players will be willing to restructure their contracts, but one NFL general manager who reviewed Washington's salary-cap situation wondered how the Redskins will even be able to field a team.

For starters, the Redskins are expected to release defensive backs Matt Bowen and Walt Harris, defensive linemen Renaldo Wynn and Brandon Noble, wide receivers James Thrash and Taylor Jacobs, center Cory Raymer, and kicker John Hall. Even with all those moves, the Redskins still will be significantly over the salary cap, requiring them to release even more players from their roster.

No team is rooting for a CBA extension any harder than Washington. Otherwise, the Redskins team next weekend will be considerably different from the one they have this weekend.

Makes my day to know that little Danny Snyder's team is about to be torn apart. :D

    613206

Not only does that put a smile on my face for what it does to Snyder's team, but one would think their situation just might push him to break ranks of the nine owners refusing to share more of the presently non-shared revenue and get that vote passed!

  12. Here's what I know. He's 6'2 and 320, and around 27 or 28 years old. The Rams have 3 1st round DT's and from what I've heard he is the only one who has started to play somewhat up to his potential the last couple of years. I've seen a few Rams games but didn't really focus on him because I didn't know he was gonna become a free agent. Who has really seen him play and not just read something about him? I'd like to sign young up and comers not old stop gaps if possible. Someone tell us something useful here please.

    603779

I have a friend out here who is a knowlegeable Rams fan, and he told me recently retaining him should be their top offeason priority.

  13. Just said he work out with Nate and London on Jim Rome's show.  Maybe they can pitch him...I can dream can't I?

    589778

Plus, Cleveland spent a #1 on center Jeff Faine just a few years ago. I think he has done o.k. at least, so Cleveland may not even be interested.

  14. How about the announcer saying 3 times: "Wait a minute now, lets see if actually held on to this ball!"  Huh?  Was that not like the cleanest catch EVER?

    477394

That's exactly what I thought at the time. There was no juggling, ball touching the ground, etc. I have no clue what that jackass was talking about.
