I’m definitely old enough. He was a great player indeed.

Same here.  I remember as a kid seeing him a lot on TV and he always seemed to have himself in the right position to make these great over-the-shoulder catches without turning for the ball or breaking stride.

I live in ATL and definitely want to go to the game. Trying to decide if I buy tickets on Friday or just hold out until closer to kickoff and snag tickets that are at a reduced cost. Of course assuming the game is in ATL next week.

Despite my screen name I now live here too and am taking the same approach.  My (somewhat limited) experience is the longer you hold out the better price you'll get, but there's something to be said for certainty in knowing you already have them.  If I do find something really good tomorrow or later for local transplants like us I'll be sure to share the knowledge with you.

There are a lot of up in these parts.    If I wear any Bills gear out in public I have a better than 50% chance of getting a comment from another ex-WNYer and/or Bills fan.
Been in Woodstock GA zip code for 30 years.  Sleepy little town has turned into party central on weekends with lots of live music, brew pubs, and upscale dining. Would have enjoyed it a lot more if I were 30 years younger. On the plus side, my home’s value has appreciated considerably with this in-demand market.
maybe we need a local Bills-backers chapter up this way

I'm in Chamblee - only been here 6 years.  Been to a couple of good Bills Backers bars not far from me, one in Norcross and one on Buckhead.  Met Andre Reed at the latter a few years ago.  Of course, as one might suspect from my participation in this thread, I have Sunday Ticket every year and typically watch almost every game at home.  The wife and I also get regular comments from other Bills fans when sporting Bills clothing.  At least a "Go Bills" if not a full blown conversation.

When Sunday ticket goes to one of the other services, I’ll look into those options. DIRECTV gets expensive, though they’re usually willing (or desperate enough) to negotiate better rates. I do like the recording options. A lot of the shows are now available on demand, but the fly in the ointment is the inability to fast-forward through ads.

During negotiations they’re always pushing the movie channels. Don’t have much interest in todays movie offerings.  Mostly Kids fare, low brow comedies, superhero retreads, sci-Fi fantasy-just not my thing.

Eball- are you still in Atlanta area? I’m in northern ‘burbs.

    also in the northern ‘burbs

  5. I told my wife and son "watch, we'll squib kick it here to run a little more time off the clock and avoid the possibility of a big return".  When Bass kicked it out of the end zone I was surprised, but with only 13 freaking seconds left I of course still thought we should be o.k.  As a Bills fan for over 50 years I should have known better to think that.

  6. You could be on to something.  In my simple observational opinion, ever since he's been on the team I thought he's looked no less than decent while on the field.  Granted, much of that limited playing time was preseason against lesser talent, but whenever pressed into regular season duty, not just last week, he's looked good to me.  Beeen saying to my son for a while now I'd like to see him in there.

Yeah they set that one up on a tee and the broadcast team whiffed. I think Levy was drunk, I'm pretty sure I heard him call our QB Tannehill and he didn't seem to understand that the game was on the line for that 4th down play.

Yeah, I too heard him call Allen "Tannehill" and neither Levy nor his cohorts corrected it.  He had a similar gaffe earlier.  Early on he was also belaboring the point about Bills fans not really taking over in town or in the stadium and how overblown that was by others.

  8. The wife and I are driving in from Atlanta in about two weeks and catching one of these practices has been in our plans and would be one of the trip highlights.  I plan to try tomorrow @ 10:00am to score some tickets to the 7/31 practice as soon as the link goes live for non-season ticket holders.  But, if any season ticket holders here believe it not to be too uncool for me to ask for the presale code, please PM it to me so I can try today.  It'd be greatly appreciated.

What Bills jersey do you own that nobody else has or is pretty rare?

I have a white Bryce Paup jersey.

I also have a Kent Hull jersey he autographed for me at a Sabres game.

Not particularly rare of anything, but for me it's Marshawn Lynch and was that crappy road design with the yoke on the shoulders.  His behavior frankly made me a bit embarrassed to even wear it, but this many years removed, and not being in WNY myself, it's kind of safe to do so now 🙂

Going to see the Bills practice against the Panthers in SC 2019 was a real treat, great memory—but I do understand why they wouldn’t want to have a joint session this year.

Same here.  Thoroughly enjoyed it, and it was cool meeting old bills like Pete Metzelaars, Joe D. and Steve Tasker, having McBean come chat at the fence, etc.  AFAIK no Bills were seriously hurt, either.

  11. Also one of my all-time favorites.  Playing sandlot football as a young boy I used to declare "I'm Bob Chandler".  I think of him as one of the masters at sidelines and end zone toe tap inbounds.  Like someone else said, very similar to Fred Bilrtnikoff.  I seemed to recall he died way too young and just went to Wikipedia to confirm, and discovered something I hadn't known: "Chandler's niece Sarah George Chester and her daughter Payton were two of the nine victims, along with Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, on board the helicopter that crashed in Calabasas, California on January 26, 2020." Bob Chandler

  12. Very interesting topic, and timely, as the wife and I will be coming in from out of town in about a month.  We don't get up there often, and have never gone there other than for a game.  I was just thinking about seeing if they offer tours or to what extent they'll let you come on-property on non-game days.  Lots of good input and stories in this thread.  Hopefully there'll be a training camp practice open to the public.

  13. I'm the eternal optimist, but I was impressed with him in the second half of the 2019 season, albeit from a small sample size.  Without going to look up up the stats, it seemed like he caught just about everything thrown his way and his RAC yardage was pretty good.  I'm looking for some decent contribution from him this upcoming season if he's on the roster.

  14. The wife and I are in the Atlanta area these days, often one of us has something Bills on and we either hear that or say it all the time.  Probably happens about once/week on average.  Sometimes followed up with a short conversation but mostly just the "Go Bills"

Well, I had it for over 20 years and received a dispensation in my last home as the homeowners originally tried to block me, but acquiesced eventually.  My kids are getting older (Divorced) so for a new job I moved to a luxury type apartment and they wouldn’t allow the dish.  Not sure what other option is out there when you can’t get a dish installed.  Now, to the season cancelling thing, my father at his condo has DTV and had the hockey ticket.  Once the season cancelled, he was rebated his $ prorated to what he missed.  When they were still postponing, they wouldn’t do it.  DTV told my sisters and myself fighting for Dad’s investment back, they follow the  notifications from the league, so bottom line is if the NFL officially notifies DTV they have cancelled the season, then DTV will proratedly reimburse the customer.  I think they did it via a credit for the investment so he went several months with no bill.

Im probably going to my favorite Bills Backer Bar as it is a restaurant so we can get into the place.  In FL, if it’s only a bar, they are closed in FL.  It has to be a full service restaurant for them to open and they have to set up tables and seats at least 6 feet away.  I assume it is the same in NY.

As for moving to an apartment that won't allow a dish, I'm no lawyer, but it's my understanding they can't prohibit it, but what they can do is say you can't attach it to their building.  That happened to me back in '99 and as I already had a DTV dish I brought with me from our last house, I went to Home Depot and bought a bucket, a bag of QuickCrete, and a 4' length of white PVC the same diameter as a DTV pole and made my own dish setup on my apartment patio without attaching anything to their building.  Of course I did surreptitiously drill a hole through their wall to run the cable inside ?

it's only available if you live somewhere that Direct TV service is not available....

It's in the fine print. Same as always looks like.

FLSUNDAYTICKET.TV service is only available to non-DIRECTV customers who live in select multi-dwelling unit buildings (apartments, condos, etc.,) nationwide in the U.S. where DIRECTV service is not available, live in select areas within various metropolitan cities, live in a residence that has been verified as unable to receive DIRECTV satellite TV service due to obstructions blocking access to satellite signals, or are college students.

I've had ST for over 20 years, both in TX and CO and this has always been my understanding as well.  About 4 years ago I moved to metro Atlanta and just on a whim I checked to see if I could get the streaming option where I live now instead of getting their satellite service and their site said I could.  Kind of amusing since I live in a single family residence and not only can I get their satellite service at my house, the previous owner had not one, but two DTV dishes for regular DTV plus some international feed.  I'm in no way disagreeing with you,  just saying I think I got "lucky" with a streaming exception.  They still want me to pay close to $300 for it, though.  I've been paying that but might try the college plan router this year.

I was in the 8th grade and at the game that night.

OJ was becoming the best player in the NFL.  Saban was back and we were getting better quickly.  We won that night.  A nice crisp fall night.  Going to school was tough the next day.

I too was at that game and in 8th grade at the time!  Yeah, late night for sure for a kid in school, and made even later because my dad forgot to make note of where he parked in one of the big lots and it took forever to find our car, having to wait until most of the others had departed.

That's because there was (and still is) a pool adjacent to the stadium. The announcer (Norman Oklahoma, IIRC) would also say that at Bisons games at Hyde Park Stadium in the Falls where they played for a season or two.

At the Bills last game, I was sitting in the bleachers in the end zone and the fans were trying to rip up the wooden slats to take as souvenirs. I got a small chunk of one, which was probably worth the splinters. I think it had moss growing on it, or maybe it was mold.

John, thanks for the confirmation about the pool.  That's funny about the bleachers souvenirs.  Sounds like the kind of thing I'd have done if I wasn't so young, though I think dad would not have been amused.

  19. When I was a young lad our dad took my brother and me to a few Bills games there and some Bisons games as well.  Considering that was a long time ago and I was rather young, I could be mis-remembering but I seem to recall some times at the Bisons games a ball would occasionally land in some pool or fountain and the announcer would say "splash".  I also recall being at the last Bills game played there and seeing fans after the game tearing down the goal posts.

    how’d you score those seats

Seat, singular.  I was living in San Antonio at the time and watched the AFC championship against the Raiders on tv with my brother and girlfriend, telling them before kickoff that if we win, I'm going to the Super Bowl.  AFAIK it was the first and only time the Super Bowl was the very next weekend.  I had no ticket but my girlfriend and I drove all day Wednesday from SA to Tampa where she had an aunt and uncle we could stay with. For the next several days I was all over town, asking pretty much everyone how I could score two tickets.  I attended events that had drawings for tickets, etc. but no luck.  The day of the game we drove down to the big sombrero about 4 hours before kickoff with lots of cash in my pocket.  A couple miles outside the stadium we were already passing people holding "need ticket" signs and we hadn't even thought about making one.  We asked a vendor for an empty 12-pack carton and made our own crappy sign, then wandered around the stadium asking people if they had two tickets to sell.  We had to be careful because the Tampa PD made it well known that not only were they busting scalpers, but also anyone attempting to buy a scalped ticket.  I actually witnessed an undercover cop do exactly that.  Eventually we ran into a guy selling upper deck corner seats for $1200 each.  That was really extreme for 1991 and I couldn't haggle him down so I passed.  After some more time passed some guy who saw our crappy "need tickets' sign offered us is nicer sign because he just scored tickets and didn't need it anymore.  Now armed with two signs, we decided to split up to cover more ground and meet back at a certain spot every 30 minutes.  We did that at least a few times with neither of us having any luck.  Then, after moving a couple streets farther away, walking by myself and close to giving up about an hour before kickoff, I thought I heard a guy I just passed say he had a ticket.  So I stopped and asked if he just said what I think he did and he said yes.  I asked him if he was a cop and he said no.  I asked why he was selling it and he said something about having a business relationship with Miller Brewing who gave him two tickets and his wife didn't want to go, so he already sold one and just had the one left.  We moved more out of sight between some parked cars and I asked to see it.  He showed it to me and it was legit since it had the hologram on it.  I asked how much and he said $500.  I asked where's the seat (not that it mattered at this point) and he said he honestly didn't know.  I had come prepared with a map of the big sombrero seating chart torn from the yellow pages and my jaw dropped when I saw what a great seat it was.  Paid him $500 cash and met back up with my girlfriend and said I had good news and bad news.  She totally understood (she's not from WNY but super supportive) and said it's fine, she'd go watch the game at her aunt and uncle's house and come back and pick me up after the game.  As a side note, I ended up marrying her and we're coming up on our 30th anniversary.   Funny thing was my seat was on the Giant's side of the field and other than one couple who were sympathetic 49's fans, I was surrounded by Giants fans giving me grief all game.  Also, it turned out MC Hammer and his entourage were sitting a few rows behind me, and Jeff Hostettler's wife was two rows right in front of me.  As soon as the game was over a TV crew came into the stands to interview her and I can be seen in the background on TV (still have it on a VHS recording) in my Bills regalia and my Alice Cooper eye paint a la Ray Bentley.
