  1. I have been "tricked" many a time into going to the peter pan website.

Usually each time I was tricked I would check out a page or two of his site just for kicks, but after a while I realized that while this guy's interests are...lets say a little different... - This guy is awesome!

He doesn't give a flying fu** that his interests are laughable to most in this society.

I even got his album and it's pretty good!

    ALL HAIL PETER PAN GUY

  2. Buffalo was recommended because of its strong support for the AAFC Bills in the late 1940's.

The city of Buffalo began declining in population after the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway in 1959. By 1970, the Sabres and Braves arrived and the NFL-AFL merger began pro football's rapid ascent to the pinnacle of the sports world.

So I'd say that Buffalo had about a 15 year window (1961-1976) before the NFL became too big and Buffalo too small to ever win back a pro football team. Minneapolis, Atlanta, New Orleans, Miami, Cincinnati, Tampa Bay, and Seattle won expansion teams during that time span. No other NFL expansion occurred between 1976-1994, and by the mid-1990's Buffalo was in far too bad of shape. If you think Buffalo could have beat out any one of the 7 aforementioned franchise cities, then you have your answer.

    Thanks, makes sense

  3. There is the classic story about how Ralph originally wanted a team in Miami, but for some reason end up with the city of Buffalo.

    Here's my question...

Let's say that Ralph actually got the Miami gig, and Buffalo was left without a team.

Was Buffalo a big enough city back then where it was virtually guarenteed that we would eventually get a team?

I mean, if Las Vegas got the next expansion team over LA, it is still almost a certanty that LA will get a team soon.

So, did Ralph really bring football here because of his actual wishes, or were we simply the next biggest city to get a team?

  4.

Sometimes when I want to scare young children I simply put this video on a loop and employ clockwork orange techniques.

Seriously, who is this guy? Does anyone know him?

Give this guy the trophy for most hardcore fan ever.

    Way to support the team!!!

  5. Remember puff puff pass. I'll have some of what you are smoking. (Using that logic, it must be Detroit's turn too!)

    :wallbash:

More absurd things have happened then the Bills finding a spark and making the playoffs.

I didn't necessarilly say we would win the SB and start a dynasty - just be markedly better and give us our best season since the Wade years

  6. Go back to 2001 & there were tons of posts similar to your's saying how bad things were under Wade & that Gregg was instilling discipline. This team is strikingly similar to that 2001 team: New GM , new coach. There's a new D system which will take time to develop, a lot of the team has been gutted in the move to youth & rebuilding, the QB position is the same as 2001: Edwards is the same as Johnson-an injury prone guy who has shown flashes, but loses more often than he wins and is odds on to finish the season & his Bills career on IR; Fitzpatrick is the same as Van Pelt-at best a career back up with some smarts who has survived, but hardly thrived when thrust into the starting job; Brohm is the same as Brown-a guy rejected by another team who the Bills picked up because they think he can be developed. The slight differences between Brohm & Brown are that Brown went to a different practice squad than the team that cut him and was picked up in August after signing with his own team's 53 man roster the prior November, and Brohm was originally picked higher. Tim Hasselbeck & David Dinkins filled the Levi Brown spot in 2001, with Hasselbeck cut before camp & Dinkins ending up on the practice squad, resulting in the signing of Travis Brown.

The following year the Bills made the big splash for Bledsoe, knowing they had nothing at QB, next year the Bills will draft a QB in the 1st round, knowing they have nothing at QB.

Wow, I hadn't had this connection yet. Great post

  7. Who would have predicted the Rams would win the Super Bowl the year when Kurt Warner came out of the woodwork?

Who would have thought that the Jets would reach the AFC championship last year?

Who expected the Seahawks to go the superbowl a few years back?

Ok. I know that we look like a team that is doomed, but EVERY year a team or two just for some reason shoots out of the gate(broncos last year), and does something special. Name one single year where a team does not come out of nowhere and I'll be impressed.

    It must be our year.

    It's simply our turn.

    The most likely scenerio:

Edwards gets hurt week one when he breaks a nail and Brohm comes in and pulls a Joe Flacco, and our D(led by 15 pics from Byrd) get's us 13 wins.

  8. Have you noticed this?

Steve Christie, M. Anderson, G.Anderson(he was a Bill for a very short period of time!), P. Stoy, The Grammaticas.

They all look wierd, and somehow similar.

In fact the only kicker that I can think of that doesn't look weird is Rian Lindell. (but he spells his first name wrong - so that weird as well.)

  9. We currently have two 150GB 10k Raptor drives. One really just stores a nightly backup of the databases, etc... For the times that I need to turn off the "go to last read post" feature - it is because we are ultimately I/O bound and that feature writes the database on every *read* (beyond incrementing the views column), not just every write as one would expect. Because of this faster drives would help on super busy days...

I was thinking of four 15k SCSI's in 10 RAID configuration. This would help with drive crashes and database speed I believe. Does anyone else have a conflicting or supporting opinion?

Cost is about another $120/month I think - but perhaps it is well spent for data integrity and access speed.

What advantages of 10 RAID provide? I'm kind of a novice, but I know that it has to do with redundency, efficiency, and concurrency (any or all or more)

  10. Brother, let me put this in perspective for you. Leonidas constantly attacks people in his posts. Not in PPP where a lot of us indulge, but on the main board. He is constantly in attack mode and went into Tim's thread with a lot of that posting style. This was specifically spelled out that, that is a no-no by the owner of the board. The idea that Tim Graham is going to comment on ESPN's business practices on a public message board is ludicrous. So you explain Leonidas's motivation to me. You try to put a positive spin on it. He couldn't.

I really dont think I could put that much a positive spin on it. Yes, Leonidas was a little off-base with his comments.

But cmon on... they were nothing compared to some other posters comments!

  11. the poster was being a jerk in flagrant disregard to TOS in a thread about being a jerk in flagrant disregard to TOS. Sometime you have got to use some sense and realize in irony may not read. And people in these parts tend not to really appreciate unrepentant dickishness under the guise of Russert. it would like be coming up with the user handle Jim Kelly is a rapist. it's ironic, because he only raped records.

sometimes you have to just be respectful and understand there is a time and place for everything. The Russert post would work in the context of a thread that reflected the flippancy of ironic caricature. In this context? Not so much.

You know what? I think you actually make a really good point here.

Also, I think I know the real reason that there is so much negativity here lately.

It's because OUR TEAM FRIGGIN SUCKS AND HAS SUCKED FOR TOO FRIGGIN LONG.

Ok, had to get that out.

All this frusteration has been building and building.

Luckily we can release it all after we win the big one this year. (I'll be running naked through the ECC parking lot)

  12. If it's clarification you seek (which I seriously doubt), here's some:

When Tom insults somebody it's generally because they're being an idiot.

When you insult someone, it's generally because you're being an idiot.

It's posts like this that really make me have no respect for you.

I'm sure your a nice person, but your attitude on this board really brings things down way more than some of the more colorful posters (darthice)

  13. Are you really serious? For real? Dude....Lori deals with a lot of idiocy on these boards. She is a true football expert and a good writer. I think your attitude really irks me. Take you Tebow and leave. Head over to the Denver board and have fun.

My friggin' god...all the friggin' morons are out here today.

    Well played Simon. Well played.

Well, here is something that we definitly agree on.

and who said I like Tebow just b/c I have him in my username. It's actually a mocking reference.

  14. right, if not for Lori we could insult each other incessantly while pissing over the memory of civic icons

I swear that this is not a joke but...

Why was that poster "pissing" over the memory of TR?

Yeah, I know he was impersonating him, but how is that bad?

He was trying to fill a certain caricature(sp?), and wasn't being overtly offensive.

    btw. Russert rules
