  1. Could you imagine the impact that Shawn Merriman and Randy Moss "could" make if the Bills were able to get both waived players? Maybe it wouldn't work out, but it's probably a pipe dream with Mr. Wilson having closed zippers on his pants!!

But, I bet you could get a draft pick for each player at the season's conclusion and that would really go a long way to help our "draft our future mentality"...Think about it??????

Not a chance this happens. Zero. Our receiving corps is a strength, not a problem, so Moss won't be coming here. The only way we would get a draft pick for Merriman is if he got picked up by the Bills and averaged a sack a game the rest of the way. I think he's worth giving a shot (he couldn't be worse than Kelsay), but to hope for any sort of return for him in the form of a draft pick is completely unrealistic.

  2. three things will fix this team:

    1. a draft

    2. another draft

    3. picking up good middle tier free agents

    oh and maybe another draft

Unfortunately, I think you are right. We have a lot of good drafting to do, to not only fix the obvious holes at QB, O-Line, D-line, LB, but also to replace the failed 1st round picks we already have.

Whitner has desire, but is not a good safety. He's too small and not fast enough, and misses too many tackles.

McKelvin is a good athlete, but from what I've seen since he joined the Bills, he has absolutely no 'football sense'. He seems unable to read or anticipate plays, which has resulted not only in him NOT being a clearcut starter (which he should be by now), but also getting burned for scores on a regular basis.

Maybin was just a bad pick. The guy had 1 good season at Penn State, and I'm guessing Jauron and company must have been watching the same piece of film over and over again before deciding to pick him. He simply isn't physical enough and I think we may have the next Erik Flowers on our hands.

Same with McCargo. I'm not sure what motivated them to pick this guy, as he was undersized even as a 4-3 tackle. Apparently they thought that playing on the same D-line as Mario Williams would rub off.

Pozluzsny competes hard and makes a lot of tackles, but doesn't cover very well, and is a band-aid.

Remember everyone poking fun at Matt Millen and the Lions a couple of years ago because they had so many horrendous drafts? Welcome to the new Detroit.

  3. And feeling better about what the "experts" say is a reason to do things? I could care less if said "experts" gave us an F. We started to build the foundation of the team for once, picking quality, hard working players who love the game of football. Mel Kiper's opinion doesn't put "W's" up.....youtube the Jemarcus Russel pick...I thought Kiper was gonna cream his pants he was so high on him...how'd that work out?

It was a solid draft...well played Buddy, well played.

Well said!!! Far too much focus on this site about what the "experts" say... very few of them really look at any of the teams in any real depth. Most just quickly gloss over the 'need' areas and don't provide any true insight. I thought the best draft analysis provided on the Bills was by Corey Chavous on NFL Network. Very good insight. The rest of the analysts... pfft.

  5. Why do you agree with draft grades before players even play a NFL game? Let's look at 3 years ago, Fox Sports gave Falcons a A+ and Raiders a A in 2007 draft. Who did both teams draft and how well did they play in last 3 seasons?

    Falcons:

1 Jamaal Anderson ==> starter, 2.5 sacks in 3 seasons (44 games). For comparison, Kelsay had 7 sacks in his first 3 seasons.

    2 Justin Blalock ==> starter

2 Chris Houston ==> not with Falcons now

3 Laurent Robinson ==> not with Falcons now

4 Stephen Nicholas ==> only became starter last season, will probably lose it after Weatherspoon was drafted at #19

4 Martrez Milner ==> not in the league now

6 Trey Lewis ==> backup, only play 17 games in 3 seasons

6 David Irons ==> not in the league now

6 Doug Datish ==> not with Falcons now

6 Daren Stone ==> not in the league now

7 Jason Snelling ==> backup RB, played a bit last season because of injuries of Turner and Norwood

    Raiders:

1 JaMarcus Russell ==> One of the all-time busts

    2 Zach Miller ==> starter

3 Quentin Moses ==> not with Raiders now

3 Mario Henderson ==> only became starter last season and struggled at LT, allowed most sacks (9 1/2) in NFL last season

    3 Johnnie Lee Higgins ==> 6, 22, and 19 rec in last 3 seasons

4 Michael Bush ==> missed first season, rushed for 421 and 589 yards in following 2 seasons

4 John Bowie ==> not with Raiders now

5 Jay Richardson ==> starter in first 2 seasons and a backup last season, 7 sacks in 48 games

5 Eric Frampton ==> not with Raiders now

6 Oren O'Neal ==> not with Raiders now

7 Johnathan Holland ==> kickoff returner last season, only 19.6 yards per return which is 97th among returners.

    Well said!!

  6. why do you agree with them? because they drafted a few players you dont know? sure seems that way because the only two players you mentioned are the ones most have probably seen play but the rest that you probably havent seen you say dont really stand out

they added size and speed to the front seven that desperately needed it

people need to let the Lynch thing go..there isnt anything wrong with having 3 good RBs and in fact its a good thing...all 3 can catch and lineup wide but each can bring something different to the table as well

it is also still only April correct? they can still trade him but trading or keeping him isnt going to make or break this season anyway so please, stop cryin about it

Most of the analysts I have seen tend to gloss over a lot of this stuff and don't really dig into the details. Most of them are true 'talking heads'. Chavous actually did some research, and watched film of the Bills' selections. He made some intelligent observations. Other analysts I saw (including on NFL Network post-draft coverage) clearly hadn't done that level of research and had no real insight. Their only comments were generalizations, and apart from Spiller they tended to focus on the negative aspects (no T or QB) rather than the positive ones (excellent upgrades to defense).

A lot of the so-called experts don't do their homework, so if they seem to lack in real details, take it with a grain of salt.

  7. B+ only because they were not able to get a more ready NFL OT although I like everything Ive read about Ed Wang

Spiller is the best offensive player in this draft and I cant wait to see him play in a Bills uniform

they finally added to the front seven on defense with some size and speed and with the secondary already in place they may just have a solid defense this year

I seem to be one of they few that likes Easley from Connecticut. He has decent size and every highlight seems to be him going over the middle which has been seriously lacking in the Bills offense for way too long. I think he can contribute right away next year

With the success Gailey has had with QBs in the past I wasnt surprised they didnt take one earlier then the 7th round. They seemed to be content going in to give Edwards another chance or Brohm his first chance

I agree 100% with that assessment. I love what they did with the defense, and Spiller is going to generate points. Let's see how Wang works out, but I hope it wasn't a mistake not to take a tackle sooner. B+

  8. what bothers me about all this "return" crap is I do NOT even want him playing special teams. Special Teams does not matter in this game.

Does not matter? Do you even watch football?

Spiller is sick. Every time he touches the ball he has a chance to take it all the way. He'll be getting a LOT of touches with the Bills, running the ball, catching the ball, and returning the ball. Anyone who thinks our scoring is not vastly improved is just not paying attention.

  9. Im saying he sucks ass because ONLY the RUSS BRANDON led bills wanted the worthless !@#$. HE can't even become a 3rd stringer on any other team in the NFL, No one else wanted him.

the guy sucks, only Bills fans want a !@#$ing loser to start for them, and we wonder why this team sucks so badly?

Yeah, thats why Green Bay scrambled to try and keep him, suddenly offering him a roster spot when the Bills went to sign him. If he sucks so bad and was such a mistake, why hasn't the new Bills regime cut him already? I'm guessing the reason is that they recognize he has some talent, the same talent that got him drafted in the 2nd round by the Packers. Very few QBs make an immediate impact. Most take 2-3 years of development before they can start.

Fortunately, our front office doesn't have people as clueless as you running the show.

  10. Campbell has improved every year in the league and it's not like the Skins have been a steady team. The mcNabb trade was a good one for them and they had to do it. But if Campbell was available cheap (a 5th or so), I'd definitely take a flyer on him.

Unless they are 100% sold on Clausen (and I'm not), I would rather get some quality big guys in a draft loaded with them than take a QB at #9 in one of the worst QBs classes in a long time.

Exactly, Campbell has improved every year in the league, and is a mobile enough QB that it should help keep plays alive while our line gains experience. And he is a definite step up from anyone we have at the position right now. If we can get him cheap enough, its worth a shot. Clausen, for all of the hype, hasn't played a down in the NFL yet.

  11. iceman - you may be right.

but, as reported, they reached "an agreement" - not sure what that means - if it's true then no contract yet for sure - but perhaps a verval agreement that will manifest itself in the next day or two - either way - the fo is doing just what they said they would do - keep the faith iceman

either way we win - there will be a media type that doesnt have a clue about this particular bit of "insider" info - hehehehe

    Confirmed.

  12. The joke is posts like this. Suddenly Kennedy is worth the money now that he signed elsewhere.

If we had given him that contract, the posts would have been "What a joke - we bring in a 1st round bust and call it an answer at DT"

I agree. I get tired of all of the 'woe is us' posters on here. If we're such a joke, go find another team to support!

  13. Why not interview him? It sends out a smokescreen (how effective? probably not very) so a team who wants a LT won't be so quick to trade in front of us and Spiller may become a FA or available for trade down the road so it wouldn't be a bad idea to meet with him now.

Maybe very effective. How predictable have the Bills been in any of our previous drafts? Not.

  14. What was it exactly that you took umbrage with? What I heard was we have no QB, we have no line, we have no money, Lynch has been a disappointment and might get traded, Chan Gailey has a lot to prove. New England, Miami and the Jets are better, better run, and have more money to get better. Thus, the talking heads have a hard time seeing us being successful in the short term. Yeah? And? I hear this stuff every day around here and I agree with most of it.

Yep, can't really argue with too much of what they said. Until we put a better product on the field, in the eyes of the media we suck.

  15. I cant see why everyone hates him so much. If he can fix his throwing motion from his Jan bowl game to his March pro day (I am speaking hypothetically), then think of how good he will be in 3 years. The dude is too good to fail. He has every single thing going to for - everything you cannot teach. throwing motions you can teach.

And to the thought that he cannot make a read. Floridas system is very complicated and advanced. The step from that sytem to a pro one is not as great as one might think - evidenced by Percy Harvins and Louis Murphys productive rookie seasons. Now dont get me started on the reads he had to make running the ball.

I agree. How many Tebow naysayers on this message board have actually watched any film? I'm guessing not too many. Tebow's problems are all mechanics, and they can all be fixed. Saying that Tebow can't read defenses is inaccurate as well. He did what he was asked to in Florida's system, and did it well. The guy is SMART. He will know the playbook, and his read progressions, better than any other player.

I trust the expertise of Nix and Whaley a lot more than I trust the 'expertise' of anyone on this message board! Whatever decision they make will be the right one.

  16. I would like to see if McCargo can get his career going under Gailey's leadership. He has the size and body type needed to play the NT position. He seems to be the only NT sized player we have on the roster right now. I'm hoping some how the light turns on and he can become the player we drafted him to be. If he could turn into the starting NT, Maybin into a stud OLB, and Brohm into the next Drew Brees it would be a dream.

According to NFL.com, McCargo only weighs 307. Thats probably 30-40 pounds lighter than you need your NT to be. He is a 4-3 tackle, and unless he bulks up a lot and learns a lot between now and training camp, the only place I see him playing is maybe at DE for the Bills, or for another team. Probably the latter.

  17. Yes would love to see this. I think he is perfect fit for this coach. He can run, but is a pass first type, and is a good athlete. I don't know if will be a great NFL QB, but I think he has the tools to run the type of offense that Chan has used at other stops, and think he would be at least average, which is a step up.

This discussion may be moot anyway. Smith has apparently stated he wants to play for the Browns:

  18. Many of you on here have said you want him. I have no idea what he would bring, but seeing what Gailey did with Kordell I think he could do the same with Troy. He has a strong arm, I'm just not sure what else he can do in the NFL. Anyone have an opinion on us using a 5th for him?

IMO certainly worth a 5th rounder. Whether the Bills front office agrees, we'll find out.
