1. Why rent when you can buy...seriously!

While home values around the USA skyrocket, houses in Buffalo are dirt cheap.  Go to www.realtor.com and do a search.  You can find single and multi-unit homes in some decent parts of Buffalo for around $50,000.  (There are houses for less than $10K too but you probably wouldn't want to live in those neighborhoods.)

Rent for a house would be at least a grand a month.  A $50K mortgage would  be about $300 a month.

Now the flipside is that house probably won't be going up in value, and you may have a hard time selling it down the road.  But at those prices why not just hang on to it or rent it out?  If things ever do take off in Buffalo, you would have gotten in on the ground floor.

I have to disagree. Buffalo used to be a great deal - not any longer. When you couple the increased taxes with the increased cost in housing, a good house in a desirable part of WNY is no longer the great value it once was. If you are not familiar with Buffalo - actually WNY - buying a house for $50K or so can be a bad move - bad area's, school systems, economic growth.

I would encourage someone not familiar the area to actually rent for 6-12 months and see where you really want to live and even if you like the area at all. There are some really great places in WNY that are great for different reasons, but it might tak etime to find the area you like...

  2. 1) Why did you move out of Buffalo?

    Pursuing better jobs

    2) Where did you go?

    Dallas TX

    Now in Albany NY

    3) How does your new home compare to Buffalo?

Dallas - more home for the money, cheaper cost of living and better weather

Albany - Obsene housing prices - better gepgraphy and weather than Blo

    4) If the econonmy and job market were stable would you move back?

If I had the same job I do now...yes.

    5) What suggestions to you have to improve the quality of life here?

It's all the economy there - attract and keep businesses there.

The local government is way to self serving and corrupt.

Organized labor is starting the have a negative impact on the area's

ability to attract and maintain businesses

Is 11 wins crazy knowing what you know today?

  4. From USA todays review or Parrish...He bruised his lungs in a violent collision during the second quarter of the 2003 Florida State game and was forced to sit out the Temple and Syracuse contests as a result.

I think this is the reason why you cringe at the thought of taking a 168ib man to play in the NFL. Collapsed lungs in Collage...What happens if Ray Lewis gets him going over the middle...Death?

  5. Jeff:

Needless to say, I'm not sad that people like you left.  With or without a choice - Buffalo Niagara has so much potential.  The Rust Belt image is just an image - there is a lot of good here.

We just need leaders in place to affect change.

Enjoy Orlando - I "imagine" you feel a great sense of community, pride, and connection to the Orlando community.  I know the grass is not greener.

    Later.

This here is the response I was looking for...A WNY'er bubbling with civic pride...What are you feeling pride in? Fiscal disaster? Corrupt government? Waste?

I agree WNY is a BEAUTIFUL place with much to offer...however at what cost? Taking a job paying 35% less to have it? Don't fool yourselves with the cheap housing - your taxes offset the mortgage save and in the end, your return on investment is less. If you are in it for the beauty and georgraphy, there are other Great Lakes cities that offer the same and will pay you better for equal work...sorry it's the truth.

  6. Not to mention, there are now a lot more people getting laid off because of this.  One of the affected was my season ticket partner...not anymore.  :D

:I starred in Brokeback Mountain: Anyone who thinks cutting jobs is a good thing...

    240354

Maybe not a good thing, but a necessary thing. If the city and county were responsible in managing their budget and day to day activities, this mess would not happen. A well run company lays people off - it's a hard and necessary activity in the workplace...and yes the city and county function as a workplace.

This whole thing is an ugly mess - not a good day. The bond rating change will effectively cost more than the $70MM shortage. The really sad thing is, they will cut thngs, close parks and impact tax payers when in reality, the budget is enough to have all of these things. If managed right, there is no reason for this fiscal mess. Granted there are good people behind the scenes, but I have seen enough waste to justify cutting the staffing in a 1/3 easily. "Fake" jobs to say there are jobs is just fooling yourself...in reality, there is too much overstaffing and waste.

  7. He had been basically demoted and moved out of being the strength and conditioning coach.  Given a decent title, but still a demotion.

    228182

From what I have heard, the coaching and players were very progressive in approach to fitness, (Palates (sp?), stretching, etc.), and Rusty usually dismissed that as fad in favor of old school training. I guess the results proved him somewhat wrong as minimizing injury was well documented with the new approach - this shed a bad light on him. I understand Jerry Grey is a big fan of the Palates and stretching routines...in the end, he was demoted and left.

  8. I think the Lindell miss was a huge momentum breaker.  If he makes that FG we go up by four and I really think we end up winning the game.  Instead the next play the Steelers go for 55 yards.

Well, overall good season.  Didn't think I would have much to cheer for in December and it was a good ride.

Stop being a jackass...We couldnt beat a 2nd string team...

  9. We can all agree the loss was awful.  But the team made great strides durning the year.  So calm down for a minute and be thankfull the team will be even better next year.  Who knows what the offseason will bring.

Calling others on the board idiots will do nothing to heal this loss.

    188329

Are you f-cking kidding me - they have no first round pick, and will ose a starter of two in the offseason. Clean, press and store your zubas for next year - it's gonna be a long winter...but your heart warming thoughts on next year should keep you going...

  10. i cant take this anymore its 10 !@#$in years im going nuts with this team whether it be dropped passes stupid mistakes whatever the !@#$ it is that is making us lose its killing me and making me !@#$in bitter, ill probably still coem back and miss a day where i could have made 150$ just to watch buffalo cuz its one of the only things i look forward to, that and soccer on sundays but its not right anymore whether it be bledsoe who just plain sucks, the receivers that drop every pass, the line that couldnt block a dl made of boy scouts or anything else I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE

sorry if im venting but its just so frustrating while i have fans of other teams that are probably even more crappier on paper getting wins out of winnable games

Your right - throw yourself on the sword....

  11. After moving Henry to Miami for their 2nd round pick and ponying the newlay gained pick and their own from the second into the 21st pick in the first round, the Bills select Cedric Bensen....Tom Donohoe says he was the highest player available on their board - "we're lucky to land him - we had him rated as a top 5 pick"...

    Can't wait until next April...

  12. Time to show some class people.  If it wasn't for Mr. Wilson, "Buffalo Football" would mean an afternoon in Amherst watching the Bulls get pounded again and again by SW Michigan Parlegal Technical University.  Mr. Wilson and his daughter deserve our thanks for not selling out.  Bills fans are better than this and you are dragging down with posts like this.

It is your right to post stuff like this, but it certainly isn't your obligation.  Everyone is frustrated, but lets remember Ralph truly wears a "white hat" .

    83038

Don't gove Ralphena any credit for the team being in Buffalo - she could give a damn about WNY...When the old man floats down the Ganges - she'll liquidate the asset before you can say Braves... She has already alluded to this...Unfortunately, there are no people in WNY that could swing a deal to keep the team...and outbid Paul Allen when the time comes...

  13. I laff at the idiots who called for WM now!  He averaged less than 3 yards per rush today!

I know he's better than that but some idiots think our line is godly and deserves no blame!

    82947

What did TH average today??? I am pretty sure it was something less than 3 yards per...point is McGahee is a better football player.

  14. Now that the Bills have arrived at the bottom of their division...conference...league - Does anyone still think that Tom Donohoe has done a good job? I kno the guy does not "line-up" as the mavens like to say, but the product he's delivered is abysmal. We can attach TD to the following:

    * Drafting Mike Williams...Forget who we could have gotten - a bag of kicking tees are worth more.

    * Giving a first round pick to division rival for Bledsoe - the Bills could have arrived where they are today getting Jeff Blake for free.

    * Hiring A great O-Line coach - then not letting him coach.

    * Hiring Malarky - Gregg Williams could be doing this badly! Hey let's make Malarky the scapegoat at the seasons end and hire another puppet for the TD regime...I hear Jim Haslett will be free soon...wow AND he has ties to TD...

    * Screwing with our backfield. I think WM is a better running back than Henry, however, we did not need him...Now we are mired with two backs that need 20+ touches to get going, but they are splitting carries...Nice, we can get a 2nd rounder for Henry next year and draft another mediocre defensive end that has a "non-stop motor"...

I think this team has no chance of climbing out of this hole for years...When they finally emerge, they will probably be playing in Los Angeles...Sorry, but it is becoming a reality. Thanks TD - love your work!

  15. After watching the opener and the debacle in the black hole...it's apparent that Gilbride was not to blame for the problems with the offense. We have a couple of options (a) Our receivers couldn't deal with the complexity of the offense...so we dumb it down and still have no effect - Either our players are really dumb or they just are not good or (B) Bledsoe can't execute the simplist of plans, so he just sucks...In the end - Sorry KG you scape goat you.

  16. If not Bledsoe when acquired choices would be:

    * Jake Delhoume (?)

    * Jeff Garcia

    * Vinny Testaverde

    * Mark Brunell

    * Draft - Chris Sims maybe...

I would take any over Drew at this time.

The Lee Evans pick is a bit more dicy:

    * Last year, the team could have been set by grabbing aTyrone Calico in the 2nd.

    * Take Tommie Harris this year in the 1st (your losing Pat Williams next year) and grab a speed receiver in a later round - Kerry Colbert is netting more value for Carolina already.

    * Take Ben Troup - our TE's all suck and he would free the middle of the field. A speedy Devery Henderson could have been had in a later round.

    * Take a Shawn Andrews this year - our Tackles blow. Again, a "role" speed receiver ala Don Beebe can be had late in the draft. Obviously Evans' only role is the stretch the field - they don' use him.

    * Take an Udeze in the 1st - lose Denny next year.

The list goes on - the fact is Sully is not just ranting - his style is to rant, but the thoughts are based on fact.
