  1. The guy from profootballgeeks.com or something? Anyway, they crunch NFL data like mad scientists and the guy basically said what I've been saying all along- that aside from a a very few special talents (Peterson, Chris Johnson, Tomlinson, Gale Sayers, OJ, maybe Spiller?) that the difference in production and talent in RB's is remarkably negligible especially relative to other positions on the field. Translation: plug in a competent back who can stay injury free in a healthy offense and they're gonna put up numbers. Marshawn Lynch is not a special back. He is a very good back who runs hard and I have no doubt that if he were the feature back somewhere, he'd put up numbers. But this guy also said that Fred Jackson has been the more productive back (based on whatever number-crunching this guy does) of the two throughout their respective careers. Guys- namely that bozo that currently has the post up about how this is the second worst move in the history of the franchise- IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT ROUND HE WAS DRAFTED IN! That was 2007, this is now, this is what Gailey and Nix were handed. Keeping him on the team because he was a first rounder is called cutting off your nose to spite your face (an old metaphor from my youth). This is what market value brought him, the three-headed monster wasn't working, they did the right thing. Honestly it's almost to the point that if you don't agree with this, I really question your football IQ.

    Yup. Good post.

  2. Wood should now ask Kelsay to give back the money.

I'm still dumbfounded by the Kelsay at 6 per thing.

Can anyone recall the last time Kelsay made a play that impacted a game? I'm thinking it was two years ago in the MNF game vs the cowboys.

Someone tell me I'm missing something.

  3. And like clockwork, the posts devolve from "get value for lynch while we can" to "what the hell are they thinking"?

Lynch looked good early but hasn't been impressive for a long time. He's tough and he's a better guy than his unfortunate antics suggested but he also hesitates, dances, and never proved himself to be better than Fred Jackson.

Fred outperformed him in every opportunity.

I'm more bummed about losing Joique Bell off the practice squad to the Eagles.

I do wish Marshawn well, though. Cool cat. Might get in trouble being so close to Oakland though...

  4. Everyone wants to believe that Chan is some offensive mastermind and a good coach. Let's look at his career:

Talk about massaging information to suit your bias...

There are lots of problems with this post but I'll just focus on two: yeah, he had all those veterans in Dallas. Old, tired veterans on their last legs. Those players were criticized heavily for their effort and work ethic in that period.

In KC, Chan turned around a terrible offense and made Thigpen look like a decent QB. They always planned to bring Weis back into the fold and he was just a stopgap solution for them until Weis was available. They're all old New England buds over there now.

Listen to what the players are saying because they're all saying the same thing: Their failures this year are their own problem - the coaches are putting them in teh right spots and planning effectively. They're not executing for ****.

  5. I haven't read this thread so I don't know if this has already been said, but unless this is a sign and trade, which is doubtful, then I have no idea how kelsay deserves 6 million per season. That's about 1 million per sack, at least, and about 2 million per impact play. Kelsay has always been the same guy:

    Solid but unspectacular.

I don't know how that equates to 6 million dollars per season. But hey: maybe I don't know the whole situation.

  6. The NFL, IIRC, does not allow public ownership of a franchise. GB is the first and last exception to that.

The NFL is evolving all the time. Because it has to. They are always trying new things, especially under this leadership. They have said they want to keep the team in Buffalo. It's inevitable that they will need to be creative. There are still net outflows of wealth. Population and business trends are not good. Hence the Toronto experiments. I wouldn't say never.

  7. I'm glad to hear that Ralph knows who Easterbrook is. I think he's one of the best, if not the best, writer covering football. Hopefully he'll find a way to fill his still-growing ears with:

    * Bring back the damn red endzones. Their removal has marked the darkest period in Bills history since the early 80s.

    * Create new uniforms that don't look like clown suits.

    * Leave enough to your family to keep them and their next two generations bathing in Benjamins, BUT: leave a controlling stake to the city of Buffalo, under the management of a group of people you trust (which would likely include some key ex-Bills). Revenues could be funneled back into the franchise / modernization of the stadium and surrounds, and possibly one day help finance a new stadium. The hardworking fan base will feel enfranchised, involved. Ticket sales would never be a concern again. A bit like Green Bay's structure but not quite. Thus giving back to the city of Buffalo in perpetuity.

That's how I'd want it to go down, and I'm not even from Buffalo.

  8. How is Jahvid Best at blitz pick-ups?

Also, this is exactly the opposite of what Chan said before the first game. He said Spiller is our starting RB week 1. Now the same week that he says we need a spark he says we'll bring CJ along slowly. But I thought CJ was out spark? I like Chan, but he already seems to be in damage control in week 3 of the season, and his play calling doesn't look much better than the previous regimes.

So it looks like the Lions are a better run organization because they have figured out how to get their rookie RB in on the action and we can't. Oi. The Lions.

I have no idea, but i do know that they have a healthy and more veteran line in their second season in that offense. Big difference.

  9. You guys don't seem to get it: Marshawn and Freddie are currently better blockers. Spiller had a rough time filling that role, and that's often what rookie backs struggle with the most. Putting him out there makes our play call a little more predictable. When he becomes as good at the blitz pickups as the other two, he'll be getting 15-25 carries I'd bet, and fans can then stop whining and second-guessing the selection.

  10. I've been a longtime defender of Edwards because he's got a great release and has a much better arm than many give him credit for. But like so many other failed Bills QBs in the last decade, he simply lacks a feel for the game.

Edwards isn't a gamer. That's why he wins preseason QB competitions - he follows the scripts in practice but can't navigate his team through an actual game.

Tough lesson. I was pulling for him. Amazing how hard it is to find a gamer at that position. You have to have one if you want to win playoff games.

  11. CJ Spiller - 8 rushes for 9 yards...8 catches for 31 yards...ZERO TOTAL TOUCHDOWNS IN 2 GAMES!

    Jahvid Best - 31 carries for 91 yards...14 catches for 170 yards...FOUR TOTAL TOUCHDOWNS IN 2 GAMES!

    :wallbash::censored::wallbash::censored::wallbash::censored::wallbash:

Even Dexter McCluster would have been a better choice for our team, later in the draft!

It's posts like this that make it hard to come here sometimes.

    *Think*

To blame Spiller or even consider him inferior or superior to anybody after 2 games in which he has hardly been given an opportunity...BRAINLESS.

  12. All right, genius, compare Best to OUR feature back... how does that play out?

Or am I going too far in comparing the Bills to the powerhouse Lions?

Do we have the permission of the apologists like yourself to compare Maybin to Orkapo or Mathews, or is that too soon for you also?

No. Best vs Lynch or Jackson? I like all 3. But Our guys are splitting carries.

Anybody can play the "we should have drafted" game. Any team, any draft. Try to focus on the original point.

  13. Want to feel even worse? Take a look what Jahvid Best is doing for Detroit, and then compare that to Spiller.

Best is their feature back. They had NOBODY else. Spiller has not been given anything remotely close to feature back carries. And in week 1 Miami dared us to throw and Edwards couldn't do it.

For you to compare Best to Spiller this early in their careers is BRAINLESS.

  14. Here's something I haven't read here before...the fact that Moorman really hasn't been much of a weapon for a while. There has been some great punting in the league recently but Moorman hasn't been much a part of it. His numbers aren't bad but he hasn't made the type of game-turning punts that he used to. He hasn't kicked the kind of punts that make an impact in a game. I can't recall the last punt downed inside the 5. But I can recall a dozen or so punts from within the 50 that bounced harmlessly into the endzone for a net of 15-25 yards. He looks pissed at himself a lot. He tugs on that chinstrap more often than he high-fives. Moorman is past his prime, methinks. He has been the most consistent player at his position on the Bills for a long time. A perfect symbol, really, of the era of Bills futility.

The run run pass punt era.
