Why get rid of Tyrod if your just going to draft a QB just like him. No thanks I want a true pocket QB. Hey dont give Jackson too much to learn did his pushers see his WLscore? Limited in a simplified system, Tyrod all over again.

It is sad how some want to settle for what is left, the old Whaley way. I'd rather see this staff take a real swing at getting better. Is it just me or is it the old Tyrod diehards on these boards that are pushing hard to draft his clone? Looking at the names posting support for Jackson sure like the same ones that wouldn' t let Tyrod go. I can hear them now, McCoy is only good because Jackson makes him be a better RB, if the OC would just dumb down the system and Taylor make it for Jackson we would be great. JMO

I never liked Tyrod Taylor as the Bills QB, yet I want the Bills to draft Lamar Jackson. He's going to be the best QB in this draft class and it's not even going to be close. As for your comparison of the two, it's as if you're saying all sports cars are the same. However, Taylor is a Camaro and Jackson is a Lamborghini.

BTW, the smartest QB guru on the planet Bruce Arians went on record saying he would draft Lamar Jackson as the Cardinals franchise QB (a team he was just head coach of for the past five seasons)...

lamar Jackson may be awesome for a few years but I can't help but think at some point he will get injured .

Lamar seems like a very tough dude to me. I watched a video where a defender grabbed his face mask in the bottom of a pile he went ballistic. The guy knows when and how to go down and he knows when to deliver a blow to the opponent. His nickname should be "Fierce", because that's how he plays. I think his body size seems like a nitpicky, overblown issue.

I think the pocket passer thing they've been talking about, them not showing a lot of interest in Jackson and the Bills liking Allen rumors where smokescreens. I just get the feeling that the media and fans are getting head faked by the whole league who see Jackson as one of the top two or three QBs in this draft. Only a couple more weeks when teams have to start laying their cards on the table. Most anticipated draft ever.

I think the Bills are going to sit at 12 and get Jackson. My thought is Beane sees the how how dynamic he is as an athlete. The danger he presents with this legs (like Cam). Understands hes not ready to be a day 1 starter and sitting for a year with some packages can really help. Keeping all of their draft picks to then build around him with tons of cap room next year.

If given the chance, Belichick will trade ahead of the Dolphins and Bills pick to take Jackson. I totally believe he's the top QB on his board, and he's salvaging thinking about not having to spend high draft picks or big free agent money on the OL and RB positions. Seeing what Watson did with his old coach Bill OBrien sealed the deal for him wanting Jackson. The reason they've been trading for draft picks this year is to trade up to get him.

I also believe that Jackson's high on Beane's QB pecking order. Jackson and Watson are the future of the league. It's just too hard to find and keep a decent enough offensive line to protect non elusive QBs from the insanely skilled edge rushers coming into the league.

Yes we clearly have shown ourselves to be much smarter then the patriots

Or Lamar Jackson sitting behind Brady and fixing his lower body mechanics then tortures us for the next 10 years.

You can say it till your blue in the face....Lamar Jackson was a stud in college.....and in the right system is probably going to be a beast in the pro's

We appear to be honed in on Rosen which is fine with me......Jackson is my plan B.....but for the love of god please someone draft him out of the division

I'm hoping the Bills get either Darnold, Mayfield or Jackson. I just see way too many flags regarding Rosen being a fit for the Bills...non-mobile, concussion prone, toughness is questionable, likes to hear himself talk way too much and is going to constantly be putting a target on his and his teams backs, and lastly I don't think he would ever grow to like or feel comfortable in Buffalo.

  6. The NFL game is changing. The Texans with Watson, and the Chiefs with Mahomes are at the forefront of what direction the league is going in. Defensive players are far too fast and agile for your offensive line to have any sort of chance at protecting a non-elusive QB (think old school drop back passers). Unless you have an all-league offensive line, or you have a QB who's lightening quick with his decisions and throws, your QB is simply not going to last a whole season. I think Lamar Jackson is going a LOT sooner than fans think. That's because I think he's widely scene as a game changing franchise QB whose game transfers perfectly to the direction the NFL game is going in. I totally believe that Belichick wants Lamar Jackson, as I do the Bills wanting him also.

I could see Belichick trading up to draft Jackson. He's smart enough to know the league and game are changing drastically. He saw Watson's immediate impact with the Texans. Belichick is a visionary and he would probably love to go the complete opposite of Brady and see if he can win with a running QB with crazy athletic ability. If he did pick Jackson the media (who've done nothing but criticize Jackson) would fall in love with the move.

What do I currently want to happen?

The way I look at it Buffalo is trying to build a team for the future. Having said that, I think it would be a mistake to use up all of their draft capital to get into position to draft a "Franchise" quarterback. Let's be honest, in most cases a rookie quarterback needs to have some quality time behind a known starter to lean the ins and outs of the NFL (otherwise your setting him up to get killed) There is no guarantee that even if Buffalo was to get second pick of the draft that the quarterback would end up as viable long term solution. For example some notable 1st round failures include Mark Sanchez, David Carr, Tim Couch and Tod Blackledge (there are many more)

I think that Buffalo made a great decision to get AJ McCarron, he spent a 4 years learning from a capable starter (Andy Dalton), despite not playing much (practice makes perfect) he has been able to amass some respectable stats. Completion Percentage 64.7%, 6 TD with only 2 INT and a passer rating of 93.6 and deserves to be Buffalo's new starting QB, in fact I think he could become "The" franchise QB that everyone is looking for.

Now, having said all that, I would like to see Buffalo trade their #12 pick "DOWN" ideally, I would like to see them trade it to the NYG for their 2nd and 3rd round picks. What this would do is give Buffalo one 1st round pick, the equivalent of 5 second round picks (the 1st and second pick in the 3rd round is kind of equivalent to second round picks and a total of 7 count them SEVEN picks in the top 100.

Now that is rebuilding a team for the future!

    Thoughts?

Trading back from #12 is definitely a possibility if the draft doesn't go their way in the top 10. Let's say they wanted Mayfield and Rosen and they could get a deal done to trade up and both are gone, then they wanted Roquan Smith and he was picked by the Raiders...this is where they might trade back for extra picks this year or next year and then hope either Jackson or Rudolph are there at #22 (of course, that's if they feel they can't justify pulling the trigger at #12 for either of those two QBs).

  9. I just did a fanspeak mock draft and came up with this...

    12: QB LAMAR JACKSON LOUISVILLE
22: LB LEIGHTON VANDER ESCH BOISE STATE
    53: WR ANTHONY MILLER MEMPHIS
    56: G BRADEN SMITH AUBURN
    65: C FRANK RAGNOW ARKANSAS
96: TE HAYDEN HURST SOUTH CAROLINA

Can't get everything, so the defense had to suffer in the first three rounds. If you call getting Leighton Vader Esch suffering. I think our offense would be on the road to finally having huge play making abilities though.

how about 9 in the box and make him play qb...until you can horsecolla him like what ended the playoff game in jville.

no, i don't think that's the kind of qb we can look for as a long term guy...

Jackson has the passing skills and quick instincts to make them pay. A lot of people are underestimating his passing skills, which improved last year. He's going to be a top 10 QB in a few years.

I like Lamar but his detractors need not be concerned. He is not the target. Beane would not have been trying to move up to the 3 spot to draft Jackson.

I highly doubt there is one QB they covet and are targeting. These guys have plans, and back up plans. I would be shocked if Jackson wasn't one of the plans. The guy has unreal playmaking skills that would be unmatched at the NFL level. The fact that they have not be linked to Jackson should greatly concern those who do not want him. These guys are head faking the whole league and he's probably their #2 QB.

So, in a draft with no trades, the Bills end up with:

    #12 - Lamar Jackson

#22 - Daron Payne (with Rudolph still available)

    #53 - DJ Chark

    #56 - Frank Ragnow

I like the 2nd round better than the 1st. But this would be a real let down of a draft.

I think that's a solid two round draft. Of course it all hinges on LJ being the real deal, which I think he is.

Do the Bills stop acquiring players after the 2018 offseason?

They need roster upgrades regardless of who they draft at QB.

The problem is quality players, specifically on the offensive line. They won't have the draft picks to do it. They would have to wait till 2019 free agency and the draft of next year. Are they going to sit Rosen for a whole year and then hope the quality free agent offensive lineman sign with them? Are the 1st or 2nd round rookie offensive lineman going to be great in their first year? If not, then you are looking at year three to get the situation settled for a non-elusive QB such as Rosen.

I just don't see the Bills having that kind of long term OL plan for a guy who, while ready to play year one, will need a very good offensive line to protect him.

But it’s not just about this year and it would be a terrible decision to think like that.

Understood, but I do think Incognito's retirement just took Josh Rosen off the Bills board. You just can't pretend that he's not going to get crushed like David Carr did when he was drafted by the Texans. The guy is not mobile and he has a proven history of concussions while playing at a much lower level than the NFL. As the kids like to say...it is what it is. By the time the Bills built a Fort Knox in front of him, he would be done.

I do think that Darnold, Mayfield, Jackson and Rudolph would be QB picks that could survive a shaky offensive line due to having the size, mobility or both. Plus none of them have histories of concussions.

  15. FYI...

NFL's Path to the Draft guys (DJ, Brooks) just said that they're hearing strongly within the organizations that it's looking like Allen to the Browns at #1, and Chubb to the Giants at #2, leaving Darnold for the Jets.

If that's how it happens, then Browns #4, Broncos #5 or Colts #6 are much easier trade up options for the Bills if they want either Rosen or Mayfield.

Eagles paid 3200ish for a 2600 point pick.

Rams paid around 4200ish points for a 3000 point pick

I would do that package as well

That's wrong according to this story...

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/15201946/tennessee-titans-trade-no-1-pick-los-angeles-rams

    Rams paid 2100 points in 2016 (Titans gave also Rams a 4th and a 6th 2016 picks), and a mid 1st plus and mid 3rd rounder in 2017 would equal about 1100. That's 3200.

I don't know where you're getting (adding?) your numbers from.

I think part of the problem is some of the posters aren't willing to accept a step back from a playoff team, even only short term.  They see "holes" all over the roster and can't see the forest from the trees.  It's a total rebuild, we just happened to make the playoffs year 1.  The goal isn't a Super Bowl team in 2018, it's to get the QB position in place, then start building around it.

With what? They don't have the picks anymore. Free agency? Sounds good, until the players you already have had on the team resent the new additions being paid prime money and they are still looking for the big bucks. That never works in real life with real people.

I don't care about the PICK Combination.  I am talking pick value.  Giants will get close to 3900 points for their pick.  That is the 50% premium, that Eagles, Rams and Jets paid.

So my walk away point is when Giants start wanting more than 4000 total points for a 2600 point pick.

That's crazy. The reason being is that a team needs to have the ability to put supporting players in place and that's primarily through the draft. You'd be defeating the purpose of having a franchise QB. What good is a franchise QB when he's getting knocked down on every other play because he's passing every down since his defense can't stop the other team from scoring and the offensive line and running game is a joke?
