1. When did DG report that PC?  All I've heard was a Kffl prediction that the Cards would match the offer because they still had the room. It's a lot different though if the head coach is actually stating this though.

I assumed it was from Denny but you have a point. Maybe not.

I'm with you on Mangold, wouldn't it be sweet if he somehow made it to us in the 2nd. Just don't see it happening though.

  2. how ironic at this timing....i just finished reading about those two players in two draft pubs just now!! third round is correct.

while i like colledge, it was pointed out that his arms are too short and he allows de's to get to his body. i saw him control kiwi at the end of the year but they said he looked avg. in other games against top level competition. even suggested a move to guard would be in order.

whitworth is a solid, "safe" pick for a rt or possibly g. doesn't have the speed and quickness for lt. mature and committed and a hard worker. sounds like a levy-style pick. perfect value in the 3rd.

if or when we re-sign peters, he would be a solid depth guy or start at rt if peters moves to the lt.

with that said, i go with whitworth as a future rt as a sure thing rather than colledge.

  3. "Along the offensive line the biggest revelation for me today was how bad D'Brickashaw Ferguson looked as a run blocker. I know in the past I have compared him to Jon Ogden and Orlando Pace but during the practice I found myself thinking that he was no where near them as a run blocker and may not have the attitude or demeanor to ever reach that lofty level. He is still a top prospect and an amazing pass blocker, but my enthusiasm about him was definitely tempered a bit today. "

  4. It's cool Piss, I wasn't trying to come off as arrogant.  And like I said, I don't read the draft threads.  Maybe after the combine, or a week before the draft, I'll look around to see who's who.  But right now, we have thread topics that say "My Mock Draft" and the sub-title is "Updated from this morning!!!"  I can only imagine there are a few that have the Bills working trades up to get the #3, #5, and #11 picks in the first round, all while signing the three best free agents.

As for three years from now, if the Bills miss badly on a draft pick, I sincerely hope that the website still has the "Ask the GM" feature.  I will be first in line to let Marv know that PISSCHUNK had Billy Jones as his 7th best DT and 84th best overall...How could we pass him up???

Look, all I'm saying is fans follow their team(s) at different levels. Those of us who choose to follow the draft and understand how and what happens on those draft days helps to shape and form our team shouldn't be lit up for it. Do as I do....just don't post or reply to topics I (you)don't care about.

I don't get my rocks off knowing I was correct and the team made a fubar two years later. I want this team to win. I just know when we pass on a guy and he turns out to be a baller, it's nice to wonder why. If that knowledge isn't there, then, I suppose we just rip coaching and management till we are about to puke.

  5. I'll get another one started asap!

Look, in two to three years when you ask how team x got a particular player and our beloved bills chose to pass him by, we'll be the ones who know that information. It's simply fun to monitor who is available and what needs we seem to have and how to fix it. I don't think anyone really thinks they know who we will pick. It's just caring through thick and thin.

Do yourself a favor and don't read anything on the board. Much of it(opinion bashing) has gone to crap in the last couple of years anyways with arrogance like this thread you've started.

  6. Yeah, I was just reviewing that draft.

With that, we could have as follows:

    1. D'brickashaw Ferguson-LT

    2. Brodrick Bunkley-DT

    3. Deuce Lutui-LG

    3. Gabe Watson-DT

    Talking about fixing the lines!

One penetrating DT and a run-stuffing DT. One stud LT and a road-grader LG.

    Never will happen though!!!!

  7. ...one on one in drills with Kiwi? Ferguson is quick and agile and extremely long arms. Kiwi has demonstrated no ability to use a counter-move in their battles. Two days now and it has been awesome watching Ferguson. Granted, I've only seen about a half dozen plays between the two days but have read various reports as well that back up this theory.

  8. After watching film yesterday of DaBrick going head to head with Kiwi at the Senior Bowl, we would be damned fortunate to get this guy! Keep your fingers crossed that the Jets draft a RB or something else and he might drop to us but I think it will be a longshot.

Love the Slay pick on the second day! He and Blue will make a nasty tandem for years to come.

Gordon is a baller as you said, no doubt.

    Good job!!

  9. I've been a fan since 1973 and as loyal as anyone but this downward cycle isn't pretty. We have to be viewed as a "joke" to other franchises out there.

Things better get stable around there or our dreams of bringing in free agents with talent are history. Find a coach with balls, give him some players, give him growing room and support him all the way.

  10. Joseph is the guy I'd love to see us take in the 2nd round, the guy is an absolute beast.  I am totally convinced now that if Ferguson falls out of the top 4, the Bills will trade with the Packers to select him at #5.  D'Brickashaw is the ultimate anchor on the line, a guy that instantly upgrades everyone around him.  Plus, being as that he plays the all-important LT spot, we can solve one of our biggest problems in one move.  Sure, we'll be giving up our #1, one of our 3rds and probably our 4th to move up only 3 spots, but he is worth it.  Take D'Brickashaw in the first, Joseph in the 2nd and Jesse Mahelona the DT from Tennessee in the 3rd and we will have taken a huge step to getting beter along the lines.

  11. If we were to look at OG in the 2nd Round, Davin Joseph out of Oklahoma probably be the guy to consider.  Lutui to me is 3rd/4th Round prospect but not someone I really like as to me his sheer size helps him at the NCAA level and that won't cut it at the NFL level.

Though I'd prefer taking an OT(see Eric Winston) in Round 1 and shifting Gandy to LG and keeping Villarial another year to compete with Geisinger for the RG spot. Though I'd also draft an OG on day 2 (Round 4 or 5) of the draft to shore up some more depth.

In terms of Texas, I've stated else where that their Left OT, Jonathan Scott, is a guy I'd take if the Bills were to trade down to the middle of the draft (picks 14-20).

    558880

Yeah, there should be a couple of good OG's there at our 2nd pick and I do like Joseph too. I heard the Texans' staff of scouts commenting on Justin Blalock with the comparisons to Larry Allen and figured he no ways gets by them at the top of the 2nd.

Jonathon Scott seems to get it done at LT. In a trade-down only though!

  12. Not sure how many of you guys have watched him this year but the only time for me is the Rose Bowl and he completed dominated a potential mid-first round DT in Rodrigue Wright. He was blowing Wright off the ball all game long until the final 4th and 1 when Wright penetrated to help stop Lendale White for no gain.

Among other things needed, we have to get push up the middle to be able to run again. He looked tremendous in this game. Any SC fans care to comment?

Also, the junior Texas RT, Justin Blalock, is thinking of leaving early. It has been said he is another Larry Allen in the making at OG in the pros. Those two Texas OT's never let either DE from SC even come close to Vince Young!

  13. Our depth at LB is good. Extending CROWELL was something that had to be done as he is a good young football player, regardless of the type of DEF we will have here. Assuming TAKEO is healthy for next year, the wildcard would be POSEY. I thought it was strange when we signed him to be a 4-3 OLB as he was most effective in a prior 3-4 defense. If we are considering the switch to the 3-4, that would be a pretty impressive group of 'backers although no pure pass rusher among them.

As for the d-line, ADAMS has a fit and some think DENNEY, probably so. The one big variable is SCHOBEL. He is solid and signed and is a 4-3 DE. He would have to be moved in a trade. Many teams would like to have the guy. Hustle guy that produces. not a pro bowler but second tier type. We would definitely pull a 2nd rounder that he cost us a few years back. The rest of the d-line in my opinion are scrubs besides ANDERSON sticking around. The draft could bring NGATA to anchor the NG position for years. EDWARDS back and if the shoulder is healthy could man one DE position. Rotation of NGATA,ADAMS,ANDERSON at the NG and DENNEY,EDWARDS starting at DE. Depth would need to be added via draft/free agency.

Not that hard a move in my opinion. Not advocating it either, just observing this talk lately. With two seconds we would and should address the OL positions and maybe sign LeCharles Bentley-C or Hutchinson-G.

  14. Vince Young isn't gonna be in this year's draft I don't think.

    1. 49ers (from Houston) - Bush, RB

    2. Saints - Leinart, QB

    3. Pack - Mario Williams, DE

    4. Texans - D'Brickashaw Furgeson, OT

    5. Jets - AJ Hawk - OLB

    6. Titans - DeMeco Ryans, LB

    7. Raiders - Jimmy Williams, CB

    8. Cards - DeAngelo Williams, RB

    9. Rams - Tamba Hali, DE

    10. Lions - Eric Winston, OT

    11. Bills - Haloti Ngata, DT

I hope he isn't as a fellow Longhorn fan as you are. But, reading some of the websites, specifically Orangebloods.com, players are saying that he and Blalock are both gonna come out this year. Hopefully, they both are back!

  15. why would the rams take winston when they have pace and barron?

    542765

yeah, you have a point. didn't put too much thought into that one. although, barron sucked this year but like you said, they wouldn't draft another first round OT.

  17. Save the usual posts that we can't turn it around with MM and TD. We will see a fall guy, so to write off impending doom without knowing their status is pointless.

When I think about how we might be able to improve I'm looking at three main things, what kind of position will we be in to bring in additions, what positive areas of the team will leave, and what areas of the team should stand to get better. When you look at those three areas for the Bills were in good to great shape in everyone, so a quick turnaround is more then achievable.

Per Clumpy's updated cap page for 2006 the Bills are in excellent shape to go after FA's this off-season.  For this scenario I'm just going to count the #1 WR position for 10 million next year. We can either keep Moulds, or cut him and use that extra money on a replacement, either way he will count about that much if he stays, and his dead cap and replacement will count that much if he goes.

With the #1 WR position taken care of we can look to create more room elsewhere.  The most likely names include Mike Williams, Sam Adams, Bennie Anderson, Mark Campbell, Jeff Posey, and Damion Shelton.  I choose these guys for savings potential, lack of production, and current status on the team.  Cutting these guys will add an additional $11,932,098 Million in 2006, and $6,956,666 in 2007.  When you combine that figure with clumpy's figure we will be around 23 millions under the cap next season. We also will probably get a top 7 draft choice in a loaded draft, plus the a high 3rd from the Titans.

While Buffalo will have more then enough opportunity’s to upgrade the roster, we also shouldn't lose anything major, and have plenty of guys Improve. The only real threat to leave is Nate, but as Mort reported even franchise tenure is affordable in the CB market this year. With the potential of having over 20 million in cap space we can do what we please with Clements. Past that you have the guys from my cut list, Trey Teague, and Josh Reed.  Are any of these players really a big loss? Many of them are career back up type players, or at least should be. We know some of these guys can play better then they have, but few have made any impact this year, so we won't feel any loss by them not being around.

Past that we have a lot of players that stand to improve their play from 2005. We have YOUNG players, whose play instantly improves with experience. Hell as a high school player you could feel the jump from JV to Varsity, imagine what the hardest jump of all must feel like? JP, Willis, Lee, Peters, Preston, Parrish, Everett, Kelsey, Anderson, Crowell, MaGee etc. Not all of these guys will improve to pro bowlers, or even starters, but the overall experience this year will help them in their future roles.  We also get Takeo back, and even if he is half the player he was his intensity and leadership is sorely missed.

A big roster turnover is coming, and for the first time in a long time we have the money to spend. The young guys are going to get better, and we won't be losing many players.  This season has sucked, but things can turn around quick in this league, and I see Buffalo as a team that could be one of them soon.

Nice evaluation KZOO. I agree with what you have to say. One thing that is wearing me out is the up the middle offense and defense. WE need guys who can push off the ball across the front and conversely, shut down that on defense. Our first rounder should be the big DT from Oregon, HALOTI NGATA. Pair him up with a F/A like GRADY JACKSON and maybe we can slow some of this downhill running against us down. It's mentioned the C from New Orleans, LeCharles Bentley is a

F/A. He would be a good start. Preston hasn't shown me much when he has been in the game despite what some here seem to think. Our 2nd Rounder might have to be moved up to get a OG from Georgia, MAX JEAN-GILLES. At that point, maybe another F/A could be found to play the other OG spot and let the OT's continue to battle. WE have to be able to run up the gut when we need to. WE can't run anywhere right now. I would also like to see with the thirds two young, big S's brought in. Tired of the guys we have. Let's get fast all over on defense besides the DT's.
