  1. Buns toasted?

Does it taste any better if you barbecue the bologna?

    Bun not toasted

If you are going to use the grill - give the slab a slathering of something or the bologna will dry out real fast -

A pan is much better - after you have sauteeed the onions and peppers

  2. The Los Angeles Coliseum is too old for the NFL, with the current emphasis on premium seating and modern facilities. A new stadium costing a fortune is a given.

Besides, USC football averages over 85,000 a game. Who is going to give up watching an elite College team for NFL tickets ?

It's been 10 years since LA had a team and there's a legit reason for the absence. They don't support NFL football.

Here's your avergae attendance in LA - Buffalo comes off much better - at least since the gloomy years

  3. I'm sure there's a good reason, so hopefully someone here can explain.  I just don't understand why, when we find a large cache of weapons and ammo in Iraq (or wherever), instead of USING them, we just blow 'em up.  Couldn't we use those bullets and grenades and such so that we don't have to pay for our own?  It's not like these people are hand-making their own bullets as far as I know.  I just don't get it, but there has to be a good reason.

    Anyone?

Old expolsives - particularly those stored in the ground are unstable and prone to going off at the wrong time.

  4. I know if it is off topic... But, what is the difference between a StormTrooper (original, IV New Hope) and a Clone (newer ones)...  The almost look the same... My 6 year old son wanted to know?  He plays with Star Wars Lego and wanted to know?

I have seen anything but IV... and I was 9 at the time!

    The Stormtroopers were individuals

  5. "Gin mill"? Now there's a term I haven't heard in at least 40 years! Of course, I left Buffalo almost that long ago. Yes, it is a local term. My associations with it are the Rose Garden on Wehrle Drive (the Miner family) or maybe the Doat Grill or Whitey's on Genesee Street or Benny's Tavern at Genesee and Bailey (formerly Schwabl's where my grandfather drank his life away a century ago). For a date and a little underage drinking, there was DuBells on Smith Street or a place on Delevan near the old Meyer Memorial Hospital that was very dark and cozy (help me out with a name here!). Am I the only one on TSW old enough to remember any of these? Do any of them still exist? Oh, the agony of getting old!

Anacone's on Bailey (still there) and the ever popular Slomba's - but what a neighborhood now

  6. From hearing from people who have been to Oakland, it seems that the difference is light and day between the fans in Oakland and Los Angeles. The fans seem to be more accepting of visiting fans in Oakland, as oppose to L.A. where you were looking for a fight if you dare wear opposing colors.

Maybe I missed something - but what NFL team has visitors in LA ?

  7. wifey got a real bad case, i seem to be immune but it is all over our back yard and unfortunately within 5 feet of my veggie/herb garden.  any tried and true techniques would be welcome, short of bush-hogging the entire back yard, we have heavy vegetation for about 20-30 yards backing up to main road.  thanks in advance.

Don't brush-hog - You'll throw all kinds of ivy juice into the air -

If Round-Up doesn't work (it should) talk to your county extention service or a pro gardener

  8. As a recent grad, i have had plenty of time the past few weeks, and i have been watching the floor of the senate intently the past 8 days or so as each senator spoke their minds about the impending "nuclear option".  This evening, when i saw the video of McCain and 13 other senators talk about the agreement they reached, and were genuinely appreciative of each other i was reminded about how great this country could be.  Those 14 individuals represented what a representative republic should be like, a place for statesmen instead of pawns of a political party.  Really, a great night to be an American.

This is no compromise - just a delay tactic that keeps things quiet(er) until the first Supreme Court nomination is made.

BTW - the Republicans tossed in a winning hand - they had no need to compromise

McCain may be a war hero but he's no politician

  9. Bart, my sympathy. Anyone who trivializes your loss has not gone through it. It is a significant one, not easily set aside. How can a "mere animal" mean that much? As my mother was fond of saying, "The more I see of people, the better I like my dog."

Your mother was wise - Amen !
