  1. could it be that the ball was between the yard markers? it would be at the 46 going one way but the 47 going the other? the statement was probably just NFL.com adjusting their stats.
  2. Go Red Raiders!!!! Seems like eons ago but Gene Mastin was my 1st coach when he coached the JV team in Cuba in 1977. He's built a great program in Hornell.
  3. I guess my whole point on this is that I'm glad we're arguing whether 4 year starter MW was worth it instead of being on the Lions board wondering why they took Harrington:-)
  4. As I stated, If TD is an idiot, then half the GM's in the league were idiots. Peppers was drafted before us, We had 2 1st round CB's on the roster so Jammer would have caused even more people to call TD an idiot, Henderson and Haynesworth were talked about but we already had Washington and Williams (that's from memory, think they were both there in 2002) Shockey? not many tight ends taken with the 4th overall pick. Lelie, Graham, and Duckett all share playing time with others. The other bold faced after the 10th pick would have been reaches for the 4th overall. Yes they turned out to be really good but for every Ed Reed you have a William Green. None were really considered top ten picks by most of the experts. I'm not trying to defend TD or big Mike but it's real easy to pick the 2002 draft in 2006, in 2002 Mike was a logical pick.
  5. Absolutely. The 2002 draft was a weak draft. If TD was an idiot to pick Big Mike then half of the GM's that year were idiots for their picks. Of the top 10 picks only Peppers and Roy Williams are studs and Dallas took alot of heat for drafting a safety that early. TD's other options? McKinnie, not much different than Mike. Jammer? Bills had Winfield and Clements. Simms or Henderson? Freeney turned out great but 10 teams passed on him because he was undersized. Sucks to have a high pick in a weak draft. That's why I always laugh when they talk about the biggest draft busts and mention Walt Patulski. Take a look at the 72 draft. Franco Harris at the 13th overall pick was the only HOFer in the 1st round. Hell, the Bills at one time or another had 5 of the players taken in the 1st round including 3 out of the first 4. (Patulski 1st, Sherman White 2nd, Bobby Moore (Ahmad Rashad) 4th, Jeff Kinney 23rd and Mike Kadish 25th).
  6. Just saw the new Burger King commercial. Bledsoe drops back to pass against athe Ravens and throws a swing pass, it's tipped and the Burger King guy intercepts it and returns it for a TD. pretty funny.
  7. I listened to the Buffalo show last night. Quite a setlist change from when I saw him 2 nights before. 14 different songs? Unbelievable! I've seen Bruce 5 times and he always gives you your moneys worth. You see so many artists basically going through the motions. It's so nice to see people like Bruce or Neil Young who after 35 plus years of performing still go out and play like that. If anyone who was at the Buffalo show wants a copy of it let me know. I'll burn a couple of freebies. e me at Helpless@nycap.rr.com bob
  8. Espn classic has a half hour recap of this game on 7:30-8:00pm Tues and a few times over the next few days.
  9. Bob was one of 2 NFL players to die in the Viet Nam war. Don Steinbrunner was the other. http://www.profootballhof.com/history/gene...etnam/page1.jsp
  10. from the USATODAY.com WASHINGTON (AP) — Bankrupt Adelphia Communications has agreed to pay the government $715 million to settle a federal fraud investigation, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said Monday. Adelphia will deposit the money in a fund that the government will use to compensate investors hurt by the fraud — making the settlement one of the largest of its kind, Gonzales said. As part of the settlement, members of the Rigas family, the company's founders, have agreed to forfeit more than 95% of their assets. The company did not immediately return calls seeking comment. Adelphia, operating under bankruptcy protection since 2002, had offered to pay $725 million in its negotiations with the government, it disclosed in a regulatory filing last month. It was unclear why the agreement was for less than that. Adelphia, the nation's fifth-largest cable television provider, filed for bankruptcy after founder John W. Rigas and others were accused of using the company as their "private piggy bank" and cheating investors out of billions of dollars. They were convicted of conspiracy, bank fraud and securities fraud last year. Adelphia is seeking $3.2 billion from the Rigas family. The Justice Department had been seeking $2.5 billion in damages from the family, Adelphia said.
  11. That is Adelphia has to pay $715 million. Adelphia is going after the Rigas's for $3.2 Billion
  12. from NFL.com OVERVIEW Nicknamed "Duke," Preston is a football legacy. His father, Raymond II, was a standout at Syracuse, where he earned All-America honors before embarking on a nine-year NFL career with San Diego. Raymond Preston is a classic technician who does not make assignment mistakes. In his last two seasons at Illinois, he allowed only one quarterback sack. Preston is a highly intelligent athlete who lettered four times in football and baseball at Mount Carmel High School, where he twice earned San Diego Tribune academic honors. He was named to the PrepStar All-West team and was twice selected first-team All-Palomar League. Preston added first-team all-county and All-North County honors as voted by the North County Times and the San Diego Union-Tribune. He was also named his team's Most Valuable Player in 1999. Preston was voted team lineman of the year for his junior and senior seasons. Preston redshirted in 2000 for the Illini and saw only two games of action as a reserve center in 2001. He took over for Luke Butkus, starting every game at center in 2002, recording 63 knockdowns while allowing a pair of sacks. In 2003, he was credited with 71 knockdowns and gave up only one sack. As a senior, he was one of the few bright spots on the team, showing much better dominance vs. top-level competition. He finished 2004 with 74 knockdowns while allowing no quarterback sacks, despite most of the offensive unit struggling all year. ANALYSIS Positives: Has a thick upper and lower body with big thighs, wide waist, big bubble and room on his frame to add more bulk … Steady player whose experience compensates for athletic shortcomings … Durable athlete who never missed a game due to injuries … Has a quick initial step into his blocks, showing adequate explosion at the snap … Has the size and power to generate a good anchor to position, sustain and hold ground at the line of scrimmage … Works well with his guards on combo blocks … When working in concert with the guards, he demonstrates good pass protection skills … Gets good hand position and can deliver enough punch to jolt the defender … Has better playing strength than his weight room figures indicate … His lateral slide, change of direction and field awareness is evident by the way he quickly handles stunts and delay blitzes … While he lacks initial explosion, he somehow finds a way to gain movement vs. the shade and two-technique … Type of player that has to rely on his low pad level and proper blocking angles to get a surge, gain position and wall off, but he has good field instincts, doing a nice job of making all the blocking calls and knows each of his linemen's assignments … Rarely makes an assignment mistake and has the ability to set and punch in pass protection … Does have decent quickness in the short area, plays at a good pad level and stays low in his stance to establish leverage off the snap … Can reach a man over and follow up with his feet to sustain, but is not a road grader, getting movement with good angles and leg drive instead. Negatives: Has good body mass, but could use some better muscle tone (fleshy mid-section) … Not the most dominating center you will find, lacking the timed speed to be even adequate blocking in space … Adequate picking up blitzes and stunts, but will struggle vs. the quicker defenders … Seems to be out of his element on the move and struggles to make the blocks in the second level, as he is not light on his feet … Likes to bang with his upper body, but needs to lock-on and sustain more with his strength … Could also be more explosive through his lower frame and must dedicate more hours in the weight room, as his lack of weight room power could pose a problem at the next level … Aggressive and stays after the play, but isn't a "nasty to-the-whistle" type finisher … Uses his hands well, but will expose his pads and get knocked back some … Combos effectively, but lacks quickness working to the second level and tends to over-extend, which causes him to fall some in space. INJURY REPORT No injuries reported. AGILITY Campus: 5.42 in the 40-yard dash … 380-pound bench press … Bench pressed 225 pounds 24 times … 470-pound squat … 285-pound incline … 300-pound power clean … 28-inch vertical jump … 7-fopot-10 broad jump … Right-handed. Combine: 5.42 in the 40-yard dash … 3.12 20-yard dash … 1.85 10-yard dash … 4.45 20-yard shuttle … 7.57 three-cone drill … 32-inch vertical jump … 8-foot broad jump … Bench pressed 225 pounds 21 times … 33 7/8-inch arm length … 10 3/8-inch hands. HIGH SCHOOL Attended Mt. Carmel (San Diego, Calif.) High School, playing football for coach Gary Jolk … Lettered four times in football and baseball … Twice earned San Diego Tribune academic honors … Named to the PrepStar All-West team and was twice selected first-team All-Palomar League … Added first-team all-county and All-North County honors as voted by the North County Times and the San Diego Union-Tribune … Named his team's Most Valuable Player in 1999 … Voted team lineman of the year for his junior and senior seasons. PERSONAL Graduated in May 2004 with an undergraduate degree in speech communication … Son of Raymond and Susan Preston … Father played for nine years with the San Diego Chargers and was a Kodak All-American for Syracuse University … Raymond goes by the nickname of "Duke" … Born Raymond Newton Preston III on June 12, 1982 in San Diego, Calif.
  13. In 73 the Bills completed a total of 96 passes and 30 went to Chandler. Hard to compare stats from different eras.
  14. I remember his 1st or second year at San Diego when the Chargers lost a close game and a reporter asked him about it and he said something to the effect of " I threw for 300 yards and 2 touchdowns, I didn't fumble twice or miss a field goal" Great team player. I'm sure Tomlinson and Christie loved that comment. DF was a team player allright, for the "Flutie" team
  15. Cuba, NY / 42 / Guilderland, NY 1st Bills Game 10/20/74 vs Patriots
  16. I remember every time Fergy threw a bad pass, the Marangi chants would begin. nice numbers in 1976 (Gotta Love "Relentless") week 1 0-2, 0 yds Dolphins 30, Bills 21 week 2 2-6, 21 yds Oilers 13 Bills 3 week 5 3-6, 40 yds Jets 17 Bills 14 week 7 6-22, 61 yds, 1 int Patriots 26 Bills 22 week 8 10-30, 116 yds, 3 int Jets 19 Bills 14 week 9 15-34, 241 yds, 4 int Patriots 20 Bills 10 week 10 10-28, 132 yds, 1 int Cowboys 17 Bills 10 week 11 8-30 83 yds, 3 int Chargers 34 Bills 13 week 12 4-21 29yds, 1 int Lions 27 Bills 14 week 13 13-29 155 yds 2 int Dolphins 45 Bills 27 week 14 11-24, 120yds 1 int Colts 58 Bills 20 he did manage 7 tds in there. Aug 31, 1977 Marangi traded to Green Bay where he failed his physical. Where was Leo Hart when we needed him?
  17. Bruce Smith Sam Cowart Jay Riemersma Rob Johnson Drew Bledsoe. all were cut about a year after I bought their jersey.
  18. >>ted washington = 14M over 4 years (3.5M average) warren sapp = 36.6M over 7 years (5.22M average) kris jenkins = 31M over 5 years (6.2M average) booger mcfarland = 31M over 6 years (5.16M average) rod coleman = 28M over 6 years (4.6M average) shaun rogers = 46M over 6 years (7.6M average) What are the numbers for the 1st 2 years of these contracts? Most contracts in the NFL are bogus nowdays. Warren Sapp will be cut long before he hits the backloaded portion of his contract as will Ted Washington and probably most of the others. Big Pat is 32 and will probably get alot of money on paper but realistically will only see the bonus and 2 years of it and whoever signs him will take a big cap hit when he gets cut.
  19. ESPN News bottom line says Bills signed Schoebel to a 5 year extension.
  20. I always wondered why GW got the job. I think Marvin Lewis and John Fox could have had the job had they wanted it but I think both were waiting for a better opportunity. Buffalo was not a prime Head Coaching job as the team was in salary cap hell and would be for a few years. TD did a great job of getting rid of all Butler's mistakes and it hurt us for the present but I think will pay off in years to come. I think Gregg was the choice because ML and JF didn't really want the job. Remember Buffalo has always been notoriously cheap when paying it's coaches. MM is the highest paid coach in Bills history. The Bills fan in me believes that GW was just someone who would come in here for 3 years while the Bills cleared all the dead cap space and TD could then get rid of him and hire who he wanted.
