  1. I will be the first to say I hate hearing about everything with Brady but I was wondering if anyone had an update on his knee. Without MC it would be nice to not have to play Brady in the season opener maybe finally we will beat them. I searched online but only found info from a while back when they still had MC.

    Thanks

The one thing I know for sure about this game.... WATCH IT WITH THE SOUND OFF!!! I can already hear the Brady* Ballwashing from the crew on MNF, "Brady's back, Brady's back"

  2. CFL Not Thrilled with Touchdown Celebration

What I don't get is the man took off his helmet...pads...and pretended to be buried and play dead...to honor Jackson...what a boob...

I read in another article by an Argos fan stating, "I was drunk at the time when Bruce scored the touchdown, I remember looking up and seeing him get naked-wondering what a stupid celebration." After the touchdown, the fan went onto recall it being the worst-uninspiring touchdown celebration ever, "It puzzeled everyone to the point of not cheering."

I saw that too, on Sportscentre. That's the kind of thing that makes me HATE the CFL. When people give me crap about being a Bills fan instead of a CFL fan, I point to Sh@#t like this! That and the crappy 3 downs, Run, Pass, Punt (and repeat) :censored:

  3. As each day slips through my fingers... I come to grips with the reality that I'm the A-hole in this equation. Owners and players make the money, I spend it. Owners and players reap the rewards, I suffer(9 yrs). How many in the BBills organization really care? 5-6?

Yet here I lurk day in and day out hoping for a shred of positive reassurance. Then Pisa goes to the bears on a one yr deal. (Meanwhile K Ellison is somwhere LA scorin azz.)

But hey thats how the wheel turns.

Prediction: Dicky J goes 10-6, misses the playoffs on a tie-breaker. Keeps his job, Has a "great" off season/draft in 2010. goes 6-10 in 2010. Gets fired. We start over with Romeo bum Crennel who will bring back the 3-4 (10yrs too late). The team goes 5-11 and becomes Canada's problem.

    Yet here i lurk

I'll stand by my original prediction 2 months ago, I predicted that Skeletor gets replaced by Bobby April somewhere around midseason and has an incredible run and leads us to the playoffs as a wildcard. The interim tag is lifted and April is the Head Coach of the Bills in 2010. :o

  4. So I'm watching BDSSP, and they're doing one of their Top 50 Sports Bloopers shows, at #13, or #14 they show Bruce being interviewed by a host I didn't recognize, on some show SBTV!?! The guy asks Bruce a question, and suddenly the big man just passes out, hits the floor, with his hands still in his pockets!! I know it was an old clip because the host was asking Bruce a question about Flutie being the starter... does anybody remember this happening at the time? Even more importantly, do any of you recall seeing Bruce speaking in public recently (on T.V. or live) This would be a disaster if it were to happen again at the HOF ceremonies.

  5. This is very true. I read the board for a while before joining and still come here most of the time just to read. Just because my post level is low doesn't mean I'm not following TBD, I just don't bother dealing with the BS on here most of the time.

I feel exactly the same way, I've been a member here since 2003. I read alot of posts but don't respond very often unless I am (in my mind) contributing in some way. Canbuffan34 is now actually Canbuffan40

  6. "DF is a better QB than RJ...look how he holds his little finger on his throwing hand a quarter-inch more forward on the ball..." Yeah, I really miss those days...nitpicking every single little meaningless thing about two quarterbacks who both basically sucked. Good thing we as a group have grown beyond that...

But...my God...come on...ELEVEN PAGES!!! And it was ten years ago! Why not discuss Bruce Mathison/Vince Ferragamo while we're at it?

Trent Edwards is a better QB than JP Losman... uh, never mind.

  7. Not to defend Faulk, but last year Peters was holding out, so he was right about the Bills having to address LT.

I know what you are saying Dean, the funny part is that last year MF didn't name Jason Peters as a factor because of holdout, he didn't seem to know who Peters was! He simply stated that "a solid LT was one of the positions we needed to address". :nana:

  8. 7-9 for us this year. Rich Eisen asks him "so Marshall, for all the e-mailers in western New York, what do you think the Bills record will be this year?" The funny part is, he said it was because they got rid of a probowl LT even though last year he predicted 3-4 wins because LT was one of the positions we needed to address. I like Total Access but these players turned analysts really make me

  9. Maybe you are thinking of a different game? Rob Johnsons first start as a Bill, came against the Ryan Leaf led Chargers...and the Bills lost...16-14...Flutie couldn't get the job done! That was sarcasm....

Sorry Buftex, I thought you were referring to the Colts game where Flutie replaced RJ.. I guess it happened so often I got my games mixed up :o

  10. Should actually be 24-11. Very first game of his first season was against the Chargers and RJ was stinking up the joint. 3rd qtr I believe Johnson has to leave with a knee bruise or something. Flutie came in and led the Bills back and Christie could have won the game with either a chippie or a very makable FG at the end. Christie unfortunately shanked it.

You're absolutely right about this except it was a game against the Colts, not the Chargers.

  11. Alright, I've seen enough of this garbage.

He didn't "save the franchise". The fact that the team went 10-6 and made the playoffs (while boasting a top 5 defense) resulted in higher sales of tickets/suites, and THAT is what kept them here. Was the The Greatest Athlete in the History of the Universe (Flutie) part of it? Yes. Was he THE reason? No. Ticket and Suite sales.

As this ludicrous debate should show you, there are/were plenty of Bills fans that bought tickets and didn't like Flutie, so enough with banging the "he saved the franchise" drum.

Also, let's not go overboard with how much better than Montana/Brady/Manning/Unitas he was. Last time I checked, he was so good that he was relegated to playing in the CFL for a decade.

The sales of those tickets and suites WERE a direct result of Flutie's play at that time! Please tell me you're not that obtuse to realize this? The Bills stadium lease was up for renewal at the time, the sudden excitement and buzz created by Flutie, Moulds et. al kept this team here!

  12. To further your point Gordio here are the facts:

Flutie signed with the Bills as a free agent and shortly afterwards the team traded for Rob Johnson. The Bills started the 1998 Season 0-3 with Rob Johnson at quarterback. After a week 6 injury to Johnson the Bills installed Flutie as the starter. He led them to an 8-3 finish and the playoffs. Technically he should have been 9-3 as he won in week 6 in a game which Johnson started but didn't throw a pass.

Some people blame Flutie for losing that road playoff game in Miami even though he threw for 360 yards and had them knocking at the door at the end. He was sacked by Trace Armstrong and fumbled the ball. However before that play there were several horrible officiating calls which screwed the Bills. That was one of the most exciting and heart-wrenching Bills games in memory.

In 1999, despite being less statistically effective at quarterback than the season before, Flutie led the team to a 9-6 record and a second consecutive playoff berth. To protect him from injury, Flutie did not start the week 17 game against Indy. Johnson started and won the regular season finale. For reasons known only to the organization, the Bills decided to start Rob Johnson against the Tennessee Titans. It may be unprecedented in major pro sports that a team has so completely disrespected and emasculated a player who has done so much for them. Of course we lost the game due to the "Music City Miracle." We have not made the playoffs since.

The following season, 2000, Flutie was relegated to backup but started 5 games due to injuries to Rob Johnson. Flutie's record in those games was 4-1. Geez what a dropoff in effectiveness (sarcasm)!

From 1998 till 2000, Flutie's record as Bills starter was 22-11. It should actually be 23-11.

From 1998 till 2000, Johnson's record as Bills starter (with essentially the same team around him) was actually 7-10. His record should actually be 6-10.

Oh yeah, and in 1998 when the Bills were not selling enough preferred seating to trigger a lease extension, Flutie saved the Bills with his stretch run and tickets started selling like hotcakes, extending the lease and saving the Bills near term future in Buffalo. In other words, he saved the franchise.

His detractors typically point to two things:

    1) He was a "midget." Give me a midget who wins games. These are the same people calling Trent Edwards a "noodle-armed quarterback." Fine you guys can have Rob Johnson and Kyle Boller (guys who are 6'4" and can throw 60 yards from there knees). Personally I'll take a guy who does whatever it takes to win, even if it's winning ugly. Guys like Flutie, Jeff Garcia, and Fran Tarkenton are the types of players (excellent QBs) who a huge portion of football fans will never embrace because they're hung up on what they think an NFL quarterback is supposed to look like.

    2) He was divisive and not a good teammate. Look, the guy was disrespected and doubted his entire pro career. He was exiled to Canada because of the prejudice against small quarterbacks. He was kicked in the mouth by the Bills when he was benched for the Tennessee playoff game. He was treated like crap after he saved the franchise. I think I'd be a little bit bitter too. And what of Rob Johnson's role in dividing the team? Was he a good teammate? Was he conciliatory and did he support Flutie when doing so would have been best for the team? No. He sulked and withdrew like the coward that he is.

Flutie was maligned by the media who were put off by his ego and the chip on his shoulder. When his popularity waned, he was not helped by his icy relationship with the media. This trickled down to reportage and then to public opinion.

Doug Flutie is perhaps the least-appreciated athlete in Buffalo sports history. On no subject are more Bills fans more wrong than on their negative view of Flutie's time here.

:o:lol: Good job! This could be the most well thought out, articulate and concise thing I've read on this board in years. BRAVO, Sir!

  13. Can someone please kick him in the balls very hard?

"They've worked awfully hard and they need to get away, they need some rest, they need some relaxation," Jauron said. "They have to stay on top of everything and that, essentially, was our message to them. Stay fit, stay in your books, you have to know what's going on and you have to come back ready to go. We've made a lot of progress, but we certainly have a long way to go."

"We play in a very tough league and a very, very tough division. It's really exciting when you look at the team and you look at it develop over time and I'm looking forward to this year, looking forward to our preparation and that opening game. To open on a Monday Night is huge for us and huge for our fans. It'll be a huge test for our football team and hopefully it'll help us get ready. Not that you need any more motivation for an NFL season, but to open on Monday Night to a division rival and a very, very talented team, is a great challenge for us." --

He does use the word "hope" alot doesn't he? As in, I HOPE I don't have to make an in-game adjustment, or I HOPE I can convince ol' Ralphie that its the players that are losing games for us, and not me.

  14. Think what you want about his time here, but if we kept flutie in 2001, that team may have gone 5-11 instead of 3-13. (But then again, you're highly impressed by 7-9, so maybe 5-11 sounded very good to you) That entire team was crap and was going nowhere. Also, take a look at what flutie did after he left buffalo...nothing. So there's no reason to believe he would have "magically" led us to the playoffs.

Flutie "magic" is like the wizard of Oz magic. You pull the curtain and find that the real reason behind the success was a top defense, NOT some little egomanical dwarf.

That "dwarf" is the reason you are a Buffalo Bills fan instead of a Los Angeles Bills fan, show a little respect for the man who saved this franchise.

  15. The Music City Miracle should have never come down to the last play of the game. RJ was absolutely abysmal until the final drive. He was sacked 6 times (including one for a safety) and flat out sucked. He completed only 45% of this passes and averaged a whopping 3.4 yds per pass attempt. If it wasn't for the fact that the Bills held the Titans to 194 yds of total offense and Antowain Smith actually had a decent game, we wouldn't have even been in there.

Thank You! I can't stand RJ apologists that say "We were leading when RJ left the field" People can say what they want about Flutie, he should have started that game!

  16. Thank you. I wasnt sure which was first.

Id also like to point out to all the other fans that say the Bills never make big moves to make themselves better. Even though RJ wasnt exactly the talk of the league, he was expected to be up and coming and the Bills took a chance on him.

He also walked off the field as a winner in the Music City Miracle game. He was a trooper and led the team on a game winning drive while only wearing one sneaker IIRC. It was the special teams blunder that lost that game for us. So for anyone that says "if Flutie was on the field we would have won that game", should ask themselves how well Flutie would have tackled Kevin Dyson?

"Up and coming" <_< Now that's funny! He had one good preseason game against the Giants and Ralph gave him 25 million dollars! I appreciate everything RW has done over the years to keep this team in Buffalo, but lets be honest, Ralph has made so many stupid moves ie: letting Polian go, GM hires etc. choosing RJ over Flutie was beyond senility!

  17. I've never been impressed with trolls running around on a football field. Flutie never made it big in the NFL because he wasn't good enough. The guy has a cult following that I'll never understand.

Are you kidding me? Flutie is the number 1 reason why our team still resides in Buffalo! The stadium lease was up at the time, and it looked like it wasn't going to be renewed. Fortunately for all of us, Flutie, Moulds and Price were providing some of the most exciting games in franchise history and led to such overwhelming support, the deal got done! Unfortunately for us, that "one game wonder" RJ, had a brilliant (albeit meaningless) game against the colts which led Ralph to order him the starter against the Titans. Coincidentally (or not) we haven't had a playoff game since!<_<
