  1. Well said Dezertbill, I think the average age of posters on this board is somewhere in the mid 20 range, I too am a 30 plus year fan of the Bills and read the comments posted on this board almost daily. I very rarely respond (as indicated by my number of posts in 10 years as a member) but felt compelled to let you know that I agree with your comments and to say welcome to the board just as EndZoneCrew and Beerball and others welcomed me all those years ago

  2. As a fellow 30+ year fan of this team I feel your frustration, I really do! What surprises me about your comments though, is the crybaby " Waah! My team is losing, they suck! Im takin my ball and going home" type of attitude? You would think that a person of your advanced years would develop a more mature and philisophical approach to the situation. Oh, by the way.... DON'T LET THE DOOR HIT YOU... :nana:

  3.

Fitz is 12th in yards this season. So, if we extend the OP's logic, there are 11 other QB's that are worthy of comparison to Jim Kelly, including Joe Flacco and Cam Newton.

And i'm reasonably certain that "good journeyman qb" is an oxymoronic phrase. I realize true statistics and comparison to contemporary peers makes it impossible for us to morph our wishes into delusional reality, but it still may prove a useful exercise:

Fitz has played double-digit games the past 4 seasons (including this one):

    2011 Season: 20th QB Rating and 1st with 19 interceptions (14 games)

    2010 Season: 22nd QB Rating (13 games)

    2009 Season: 26th QB Rating (10 games)

    2008 Season: 31st QB Rating (13 games)

I can hazard a guess that his 2008 performance is why Cincinnati let him go. Most teams in the NFL seem to base personnel decisions on empirical/video evidence. Lucky for Fitz, our beloved bills are not logic slaves.

I don't think it's justifiable to attribute his usual less than mediocre play this season on a lack of weapons (and, incidentally, nobody without the last name of Chandler calls Scott Chandler a weapon). Last year Fitz was given the opportunity to be inaccurate with Lee and Stevie and Fred was along for the ride. Quarterbacks make weapons out of receivers; not the other way around.

Sweet! According to those stats by the year 2015, Fitz will be among the league's leaders in overall rating.

  4. After 21 years of fanhood, that's pretty much my answer.

"Hun, I just like a bad team"

"Girls, I just like a bad team"

"Bill (my dog), I just like a bad team" ruff ruff

My little girls do their cheering every week, but even that doesnt work.

I have been advised by fair weathered fans to pick another team....That will never work. After 21 years???? So at the end of the day, all I can say is, "I just like a bad team"

Dammit!!!!!! I really dont think this will ever change either.

for all the old timers, what has helped you remain a fan?

ps This is not negative nancy, im normally positive peter. this post is coming from realistic rick.

As a 30+ year fan like yourself, I can feel your pain and frustration Rick. The one thing I've always told myself through all the ups and downs of so many seasons is this..

    1) Do I like the players? Their character, their work ethic, their passion and effort? The answer for the most part save for a few idiots ie: Rob Johnson, Travis Henry et al. is Yes!

    2) Would I enjoy cheering for another team? Maybe, but I truly don't think so. I can unequivically say that a SB Championship would not and could not mean more to another teams fans and city than it would to Buffalo!

    3) Sometimes it gets hard and tries your patience to be a Bills fan, but let me tell you a story that happened to me a few years ago...

I was a Bar manager and I was working a slow Monday night shift and the Bills were playing the Dolphins in Miami on MNF. This customer that was kind of a regular, noticed my attention being on the TV instead of his almost empty glass of draft beer. He could clearly see by my reaction to the game that I was a Bills fan but he still asks the question,

" You a Bills fan?" I respond that I am.

Then he says, " Yeah, I used to be a Buffalo Bills fan but I'm not anymore!"

I looked at him almost sympathetically and very clearly stated " No, you never were."

As I write this I'm 43 years old, I figure with a little luck.. I'll live to see maybe 75?

Is it too menial or shallow to hope that before I die I'll see the Bills win one? If so, I guess that makes me shallow. Oh well, I've been called worse.. Go Bills!

  5. Strength and Conditioning coach! In my 30 years of watching football and this team in particular, I've never seen so many players go down with injuries in consecutive weeks. We all were told how much bigger the defensive front seven is compared to last season and yet outside of the Washington game, we have been man-handled by subpar teams! I think that Gailey summed it up best when he spoke about the lack of experienced depth on the team, however its my opinion that whoever our S and C coach is needs to find employment elsewhere, maybe he would be a good Girl Scouts leader. :wallbash:

  6. 1) I think the character of this team and its coach rivals that of the 1990's teams (they appear to be a band of brothers and truly care for one another) so they won't curl up in the fetal position after a bad loss, I expect they will rebound with a physical win over the cowboys.

    2) I believe we have hands down the smartest QB in the entire league, and Fitz will examine every frame of the film from that game and learn what the jets did to him on defense and that it won't happen again!

    3) I truly believe that the Bills were in a playoff game and they didn't know it! I mean think about? How would the Bills have a single clue (with our current players) what kind of intensity and level of play is required to succeed at the playoff level, have any of them outside of Barnett ever been in one?

    4) I think they started to believe their own press clippings, its human nature to lose your edge when you have everyone telling you how great you are, to ratchet down the energy and intensity and that played right into the jets'

    hands.

Look guys, I don't know if this team will make the playoffs or not...but I think them getting slapped in the mouth

midway through the season like they did on Sunday will reveal alot about their pride and character and I'm willing to bet they will rebound

    GO BILLS!

  7. If they do go QB at #3 that guy is your 2011 starter from game #1 - no question. For the people that say let him sit behind Fitzy like Aaron Rodgers did, I respectfully remind them that Rodgers sat only because he was behind an NFL institution known as Brett Favre. You don't make the multi-million dollar commitment that a QB at #3 requires to have the guy sit for 1/4 of his rookie contract before you find out if he is the man.

So for all of the Fitzpatrick loyalists (and I may be one) be careful what you wish for. If Gabbert or Newton has his name called at #3, Fitz goes straight back to the bench.

I vehemently disagree with this statement! Fitz has earned the right to be the starter for week 1, anybody who says different is flat out wrong on many levels :wallbash:

  8. I am usually two busy with my business to watch much football but when the Jets is this good who can stop watching? I know the people here hate the Patriots almost as much as Jets fans do so I'm sure you are all pretty happy tonight.

I am here to extend an olive branch because I figure you guys could stand to root for a winner for a change. Back a while ago when I said the Jets are pretty much unvinceable you all laughed about that but who is laughing now. I tell you who is not laughing is Tom Brady that is who.

Also I figure it is good for you guys to root for a real New York team not one from the suburbs. You can go back to the Bills in Septmeber. This will be fun.

    P.S. J-E-T-S Jets JEts JETS.

    Thanks, but no thanks!

  9. To Stevie Johnson,

You are a ballar who comes out and consistently makes plays for the Buffalo Bills on a weekly basis. You are having one of the best season for a Bills WR in decades. You are a young shining star on this team and your chemistry with Fitz is without question excellent. Nobody is perfect, don't let one play change the way who you are on the field and off. You are a prime example on this team why I enjoy watching Bills football and what makes it exciting to be a Buffalo Bills fan once again for the present and future.

    Sincerely,

    BuffaloBillsForever

Couldn't agree more, the mere fact that you are so upset Stevie tells me that you are a class act. It is an honor to have a man like you on this team. You'll get them next time, keep your chin up!

  10. C'mon guys and gals, did you really think that we were going to be competitive this year?

Maybe its just because I'm older and a little more philosophical about things but if you step back (emotionally) and really look at the organization and its direction you'll see light at the end of the tunnel. Nix and Gailey told us they were going to rebuild through the draft, ask yourselves "Who's the Bills best player, right now?" My vote is Spiller!

They annoint Trent as the starter heading into week 1, try to develop him... realize he is

completely ineffective, get rid of him! They told us that the problems with the team cannot be fixed overnight, I say watch what improvements are made from week to week rather than focus on the overall record which we all know is going to be bad.

  11. My link

Can't believe the lack of respect for the Bills this year. This is not the first post suggesting that...but this article is just icing on the cake.

I for one, welcome all the negative comments and "doom & gloom" predictions from these talking heads, I'm a Bills fan and I'm encouraged by everything I've seen so far in the pre-season! I BILLieve in the direction this regime is moving and I think we will all be pleasently surprised by the product we'll see this year.

  12. Agreed - it's like praising the kid at Burger King for giving you the Whopper within 30 seconds.

However, it's what this organization has been sorely lacking. Jauron would have said that Detroit's d-line was too tough for them and tip his cap to their DC. Gailey says the same thing, but also says our o-line needs to perform better.

None of us think Gailey can do no wrong (ok, *most* of us don't think that) - but we're dealing with an honest, down-to-earth, stand-up guy running the team...instead of a guy who looks lost, emotionless, and has little clue about what's happening with his own team.

Exactly! My biggest cause for optimism was in the Bengals game, when Gailey actually made an in-game ADJUSTMENT to start throwing the ball to open up the running game. Haven't seen that in about 5 years :wallbash:

  13. NFL Network had the Cincy vs. Buff game scheduled on Sunday night at 2:00 am, so I stayed up late to watch it only to discover that they showed the Saints-Chargers instead. So I run through the guide and see that the next time our game is supposed to air is Mon. at 7:00 am, I turn it over and its Pats*-Rams :censored: Now the next scheduled air time for Bills-Bengals is Tues. @ 8:00 pm :censored: You! Nfl Network

  14. Okay, So I spent my morning reading the boards and 90% of the fans on it blasting the Bills on every aspect of the 1st preseason game against Washington. Yes I agree that it was a shameful display of functionality on the field but COME ON... it's the first preseason game. We should come into it knowing that all our starters weren't out there, we are working on getting continuity on both sides of the ball. They showed on the first drive that they had some clue on how to move the ball. We found out some great things in my opinion...

    1) We may have picked up 2 impact players AGAIN that were undrafted (Nelson and Bell).

    2) It really is an open competition for QB since Brohm is getting the next game 2nd string reps & if Trent stinks it up he'll be benched.

    3) It's a known fact that Preseason is PRACTICE for the real deal. No one wants to give away their strategy for the season neither does Chan.

4)The 3-4 IS a better defensive scheme for our players and a key ingredient - POZ - was not in it. We did better against the run...

    5) We can run well against any team in the NFL. Gailey isn't going to show his full playbook in preseason and right now he's trying to get the team playing on the same page... that's what Preseason is about ... winning is a bonus when you have all 3 strings out there in one game.

There are way too many people out there reading so far into this game it's stupid. PRESEASON is PRACTICE. Wait till the end of the first regular season game to judge.

Thanks for posting this, I agree 100% with what you've said! Pre-season means absolutely nothing, and I'd also like to add that with the starters in the score was only 7-3 for the skins, not 42-17.

  15. Outside Rogers Centre, scalpers have been plenty these past couple of years since it never sells out. Last years Jets game, the press release called it sold out, but just hours before the game, one of the Rogers people was giving an interview on TV and said to come on down, plenty of tickets still for sale.

Thanks for the info, do you have any idea what the scalpers would usually charge for pre-season game tix? :)

  16. Hi guys and gals, I want to take my son to the Bills-Colts game in Toronto next week but I'm too cheap to pay the delivery charge for the tickets  I was wondering if any of you knows how to find out 1) How many tickets are still available for the game and 2) Where I can find the best price for tickets? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
