I'm a lifetime Northtowner, when looking to buy a house with my wife (a lifetime Southtowner) I told he we should stick to the North because of less snow. She agreed and we're in the Tonawandas. Granted we did get 5 feet on Christmas a few years back but that's an exception not the norm. Not only do we get less snow but snow removal from the Town is considerably better than in the City or Southtowns, toss in perks with garbage pick up and street cleaning etc. I work in Cheektowaga but most days it's only a 20-25 minute commute by car crazy snow falls the only issues really to cause further delays.
I have to call global warming out. When we moved to SOCAL it was after a bizarre winter 2001. Since we came back (2017) the winters are nothing like those of my youth. The towns are pretty good at services plowing, garbage, and mosr important police. The City of Buffalo or Niagara Falls - not so much.
It's not even Memorial Day and my lilacs are in full bloom

Looking to move back to WNY within the next couple of years...I like the real estate options in the southtowns (Hamburg, OP) but wondering if northtowns (Amherst, etc.) is the better way to go, given the snowbelt.
Any advice from the locals is greatly appreciated.
I have had the chance to live and work all over WNY; Rochester North & South, Buffalo Southtowns: East Aurora, OP and Cheektowaga, SUNY (Both campuses) and Amherst. Whwn I had to get an Security/Bond clearence - it was a SOB to remeber all the freaking addresses!
Anyway, Barb & I moved to San Diego for work and the offer you cannot refuse. After 15 years, we decided to move back to WNY (Retirement). Housing and utilities are so much cheaper. We looked at properties in Amherst (Over developed), Wheatfield (way spread out) and then found a property on Grand island and built a modular home, Taxes are what rhey are but rhe quality of living is OK! Grand Island is very rural but 20 minutes betweem Tonawanda/Amherst and Niagara Falls.
If you want snow - south of Broadway.
Any questions - reach out!

Agreed. Back in the seventies, my first job was at a gas station. I took what I thought was a counterfeit $10 bill. Called the local police precinct, and the officers that came by said it was just an old bill. They also said it was rare in that era to find any counterfeit bill less than $20. Apparently it cost over $10 to produce a passable counterfeit. I have no idea if high resolution printers of later years enabled cheaper counterfeit bills to be produced.

Last summer there were several people passing "Movie Money" at Hertel Avenue Bars. Packed bar - busy beyond belief - it happens - or collusion?

If you do why do you continue to hang on to them.... sentimental value or holding out hope someday they will still be worth some $$$?
I still have a big box of all of my sports cards from when I was a kid in my parents basement. When I was a kid my grandpa was big on don't ever get rid of your sports cards because someday they will be worth lots of money. That was true for his generation, and I am pretty sure he was one of those people who had some valuable cards when he was a kid that he didn't hang on to that were later on worth a lot. But cards in the late 80s and 90s were so mass produced there just isn't that kind of value to them. I check in with local memorabilia and collector shops to see if there's any value to these cards yet every few years or so and there really isn't. I guess I hold out hope that maybe in another 10-15 years some of those cards might be worth something but I'm not expecting it.
I guess I have a little sentimental value attached to my sports cards and the players I loved as a youth but it's not like I ever go through them and the older I get I think the more the excitement of going through them lessens. I have thought about getting rid of them but at the end of the day I really don't have any reason to as I just have a box full of stuff and my parents have allocated a little bit of space in their basement for me to keep a few things in "storage"
I have kept a few Bills classics - but all the rest were handed off. I remember Dave & Adams selling boxes of all types (including in Spanish) - $5
Great Kindling!

That's @Bob Lamb prior to moving to So Cal. Then he dropped like 50 lb's just walking on jogging paths and watching silicone bounce. Lamb is a few inches taller than Luka but if he could get under 270 then no reason Luka can't. Luka will get in shape. He just took the Mavs to the finals last year. He's literally one of the 3-4 best players in the world.
Currently 260 but still 6'5" - never could dunk though
Knee replacement surgery = a potential "death spiral" repeat?

Back in the day (mid 70's) - at the UB student run dormitory stores - they outsold Triscuts but were second to Cheese Nips. It was a pretty good cracker to handle dipping and/or cheese, The Nabisco rep could never understand. I thought it was the Long Island effect

Parking Info…. Unfortunately plenzmd1 has made it hard to have an organized check off list as no name just a 6 spots needed post. My count is roughly 21 parking spots needed. Make sure you get checked off the list game day. The prime area holds roughly 22-24 spots. Lot officially opens at 7am. Please park (staging area) on Glen Street Across from Hammers Lot if you arrive before 7am. As always an easy to read sign with HUGE TBD on it is required to get in. Due to high demand, spaces will be held till 8:30am sharp. Parking will be in the circle the wagon style. The list is officially closed now. Thank You for your support. For those who have not met me…….

I heard this as well. As of Thursday evening there were 2 left in the legends club. I'm guessing they didn't last long.
I really wouldn't worry too much about that.
This is the Sabres using a state law to their advantage to crack down on people who buy tickets for the sole purpose of reselling them.

I want heat so badly. I wonder if any will be left by the time they get to me.
I seem to recall the previous attempt at heated seats did not end up so well
In 1999 crews completed a seven-month stadium overhaul that included constructing 76 brand-new dugout suites and two new enclosed club sections each containing 500 seats. Fans in the dugout suites watch the action just 40 rows from the field. In addition, the Bills replaced 6,800 seats in the sideline club sections with revolutionary contoured heated seats, the first of their kind in North America.
After a couple of seasons - the system faltered due to global warming (Ooops - I meant weather)

I have the possibility of splitting a pair of club seats with a family member who currently has a pair of clubs. In their meeting they were quoted 15 K per seat. Is there any advice you guys may have?
Just in case you and your partner are not going to use all the tickets yourself - see what the Sabres are doing to ticket resellers. Just looking down the road.

I've been looking to go on an Alaska cruise for a while. One thing several people have said is if you're doing the cruise with land tour, do the land tour part first, so you can relax on the ship the second half.
Unless you need to see another mountain (Denali) - fly into Anchorage - take the train down to Seward and get on your cruise ship there. I see some ships are stopping at Whittier now. We have been there twice - only the Grand Canyon compares for scenery

It is hard for me to mourn Cheers with the passing of Norm. Only two sitcoms moved me back then. The other was Sports Night. Both shows had excellent characters and superior writing. My father who had little tolerance of mass market TV back at those time, always watched Cheers. He was from the 1940’s – 50’s generation and his 4 brothers frequented bars. I was able to spend some time in his failing years and liquid lunch was always there. He showed me how or treat restaurant staff,
Anyway, back to Cheers. Dad said you could basically go into any neighborhood saloon and see all the characters. Only the names change. In my research – good call Dad!
