1. and following that chain of thought...it shows the near-futility of our speculation over such matters....fact is, we don't know stevestojan about what goes on behind the scenes...

    69706

Exactly - what I read from it was that it was less about a particular play in a game and more about overall conduct in practices, meetings, locker room. Sounds like maybe he wasn't taking it as seriously as they wanted or maybe he was even a distraction (although Drew stuck up for him - but what is he going to say - the guy was a real a$$clown?).

  2. While I agree that he is hopeless at Safety, don't you think he's a valuable player on special teams?

    68781

IMHO he is nothing 'special' on STs. Certainly not worth taking a roster spot for that reason only. Especially also given the willingness of this staff to play starters on STs and thus de-emphasize 'ST specialists'.

For some reason people have this opinion of Wire as this Tasker-like STs demon - I personally never saw it. Don't forget he didn't even lead the team in STs tackles last year. That honor went to Stevenson, and he was cut.

  3. In a way this news is sad as the Coy Wire crusade appears to be coming to an end........

    As far as I'm concerned,

that crusade will only end the day he leaves town. :w00t:

If I didn't know any better, I'd think he's asking for the Coy Wire sucks thread to be bumped.... :P

  4. it was AFTER A TIMEOUT.

    67184

That's an excellent point - it would have been nice if they were going to try a misdirection play that would decide the outcome of the whole game if someone made sure everybody was on the same page and knew their friggin assignment.

Didn't Wyche used to have the whole offense huddle w/ him on the sidelines on occassion for TO's - or was it someone else? Is that still legal?

  5. Funny you should say that.  Mrs. Griz looked my way after we took the lead and said "why aren't you excited, they're ahead?".

My answer was "yeah... watch this."

    I just knew we'd cave. <_<

We were driving back from out of town during the game and I was listening to the Panthers game on the radio and (very infrequently) would get the other scores - and the last score I heard was Jets 13-0 as the Panthers game started the 4th quarter and we entered our county.

As we got close to our home I decided to stop at a sports restaurant near our house which I knew would have all the games on to catch the end just in case - and was surprised as we walked in to see it was 14-13. At first I was excited but honestly my enthusiasm was immediately tempered when I saw NY had the ball and was starting their drive. I told my wife "They are going to drive down the field and kick a field goal to win it. If we get the ball back, Drew will get sacked and we will run out of time - or we will miss the FG". My wife got mad at me for "being so negative". I honestly at no point in the last few minutes was excited that we would win - I could only think that something would happen to make us lose - like it was inevitable.

Then after it was over my 6 yr olds consoled me "It's OK Daddy - some day they will win"

  6. McGahee's run came after coach Mike Mularkey had gathered the offense on the sidelines and gave the players some choice words before sending them on the field.

"Some of us need to grow up and I felt like it was coming towards me," McGahee said of Mularkey's speech. "I felt like I had to go out and make a play after that speech. You have to grow up, like he says."

   <_<

  7. If there are any headline writers on these boards, admit it: you've been waiting for a game to come down to the final minute, with the Bills leading and the opposing offense driving down the field. Buffalo's last defensive play would be an interception by Coy Wire, allowing our offense to run out the clock. "Game comes down to the Wire" the headline writers would write. I'm sure they've been salivating over this ever since Wire got drafted, in fact.

    63099

    More appropriately:

"Game comes down to the Wire - Wire burned again in Bills loss"

  8. Believe it or not, I watch him in games too.  He does do well in run support!

Just because you say he doesn't, doesn't exactly mean it's true....and vice versa of course.

You and I either are not watching the same thing or your interpretation of the game of football is very different from mine (this is the nicest way I can think to say it).

When I say run support, I don't neccessarily mean stopping the RB after he has gotten through the line/LB's and Coy has to stop him.

Good, because we all know Coy can't make that play

I mean when it's a running down, and Coy comes up to help stop the run.

Yeah - and - time and time again I've seen him do this and miss plays. It is a common mistake of the Coy apologists to whine how he has it so tough because he has to play the mean bad safety position - the point is that if you constantly take bad angles, are out of position, and have poor on the field instincts - being closer to the LOS will not make all those problems magically disappear. It simply isn't the case.

When he's playing pass, and then comes up to stop the run, it takes him out of the play a bit.

WTF??? This is a little unbelievable - listen to yourself making aplogies how Coy can't make the play because he has to run up from the safety position??!!! Poor Baby. That's his F'ing job! This is the kind of crap that got me so tuned into watching him in the first place - people apologizing left and right for him not playing well and in the same breath saying how great he is. Unbelievable.

But even then, your claim that he sucks is just plain wrong.  Has he whiffed some tackles?  Sure, but who on this team hasn't?

Even though you say you've watched him I'm willing to bet you have not watched him as much or as closely as I have. He consistently shows the ability to be out of position, take bad angles, and miss plays. I do not think there is another player on the team with quite his aptitude for this.

It does not matter if he lines up at the LOS or 30 yards downfield - if you're in the game you are supposed to execute your assignment. If you can't - you shouldn't be in the game. Simple. Time and time again he has shown he can't execute the assignment he is on the field for - so he should not be in the game. Simple. Period.

As far as rushing the passer?  When I've seen Coy get pressure on the QB it is from speed rushes.  No, he doesn't pick up FB's and throw them out of his way, not a single safety in the league does that.

? Not sure what your point is here. The name of the game is getting to the QB, however you have to do it.

So, PP came in to rush the passer in the Jax game?  How'd that work out?

If you saw the game you'd know it worked out great! He was only in for a handful of plays and was an impact player. I saw three times he got pressure on the QB - also got 1/2 a sack.

  9. Screw his size.  He hits the hell out of people and as always been great in run support.  He could excel at LB.

Sorry - but you couldn't be more wrong. I don't know why so many people buy into this myth that Wire is great in run support. I have watched him "provide" (attempt) run support, and time after time after time after time after time he overpursues plays, takes bad angles, and absolutely whiffs on tackles.

I've said before it is a good thing he is such a workout warrior. He must have the strongest neck muscles I've ever seen. So many times I've seen him run willy nilly around then have to violently jerk his head around as the play goes right by him. On a normal human that force would most likely result in serious whiplash.

He had a memorable hit on a basically stationary James Stewart that I guess people translate into being this run stuffing stud. If the game is changed for ball carriers to only be allowed to run in predetermined straight lines, Coy may excel in the NFL. Until then - he just doesn't have what it takes - instinct and talent - to be a decent player in the NFL.

He does well in run support at Safety, and he does a decent job getting to the QB when Safety blitzes are called.

See above on your first point - he does not do well in run support!. On your second - check the tape of the Jax game. They brought PP in almost exclusively to rush the passer and he did an unbelievable job in that role. Put pressure every time. The one time I saw Wire line up and rush he got tossed aside like a rag doll.

  10. Wow - that's pretty impressive. Too bad Mularkey didn't take the ref thing a few steps further from training camp into the regular season like Edwards does. Maybe its not too late?

The most interesting thing is the concept of going for the player's pride, not pocketbook. This week Mularkey showed films to the whole team together, pointing out mistakes, to try and increase the feeling of accountability. The bottom line is players have to feel personally accountable to the team to not screw up.

  11. My favorite movie of all time is getting re released into 8 theaters across the country.

They said that it did poorly at the box office, but once it got to VHS, it took over the #3 spot on the IMDB's top 250 movies of all time.

But, since most people didnt see it in the theater, they are re-releasing..

I'd love to see it on the big screen.

    AWESOME movie.

Good - I've only seen it 753923 of the 897654930 times it's been on TV

Just kidding - it is a great movie.

  12. Scoreboard EZ, or upper-deck 50? In January. As long as you plan ahead for  the wind-chill factor, I'd take the upper deck.

Especially considering that I expect the scoreboard EZ to look like Heinz Field, with all the Steelers fans sitting there. That's what happened the last time they played up here. Also, factor in that those are the least expensive seats in the stadium - (relatively) cheap tix equals more money for beer. Rival fans + mass quantities of alcohol, NOT a good mixture.

And one more thing, it's almost impossible to see the scoreboard from there - you're turning around and looking almost straight up.

Just my opinion.... others may disagree completely.....

    60276

I agree - the end zone crowd can get a bit rough - esp if there are lots of opposing fans. And not being able to see the scoreboard can be a drag.

Having said that - I think I've sat in the end zone every time but twice in 30+ years going to games - and last week I had seats in the upper deck but had the misfortune of sitting near basically a whole section of obnoxious Pats fans which served to negatively affect my game experience (to put in mildly). I think though that near the 50 yard line hopefully will be majority Bills fans. Plus I can't imagine any opposing fans being more a-holish than those Pats miscreants.
