1. Bills - 475 total yards, 169 rushing, 306 passing, 26 first downs, 33+ minutes of possession. NY- 256 total yards, 182, passing, 74 rushing, 15 first tdowns, 26+ minutes of possession. How did we lose to the Jets at home? We didn't take care of the football and we got no pressure on Pennnington. Losman needs to learn how to throw in the RWS winds. It looks like the game is still a little too fast for JB.

  2. I say no and I say play it like the Chargers are with Rivers.  Run the Ball - a lot!!  Allow JP to grow up in gameplay experience.  The boy needs confidence and the ability to play the whole game efficiently.  Something that he was not allowed last year.  If our D can continue to hold, bend and not break, it will give us the chance to be balanced and not have to air it out.

i am also concerned about our Oline pass protection, they still need a lot of work especially Villy.

  3. everytime i see this guy on the air he is wearing the same tie. It has small red and yellow dots.... relax with the homo erotic jokes, I'm straight....  It's just that he is one weird dude. I know the mind plays tricks during this slow streach of off-season, but I'm starting to wonder if he is a human or some weird espn/nfl love child conceived in the bowels of Bristol.  peace.

Remember the movie "Twins" ? Clayton is the left-overs

  4. On paper, he's right.  If you look at the track record of the players, coaching and management here and compare it to the rest of the league, they are the worst(DFL) or very near it.

The question is whether this group of players is as weak as they appear to be on the surface(past history, lack of size, speed, athleticism etc.) or are they a group that will rally and find some success by the synergy of playing as a team?

As a Bills fan, I've never seen a good Bills team that didn't have a talent advantage over their opponents almost every week.  The 80's and 90's Bills were ALL about personnel(sorry, Walt Corey), so it's really hard to be optimistic when you realize that the team is now lining up players of such mediocre pedigree and especially hard when you look at the track record of the coaching staff.  I'm not saying the Bills players are BAD, but it has the look of an expansion team packed with projected starters who were not good enough to start elsewhere or who were let go because teams thought they needed to improve over them.

There are really only 5 good frontline players/playmakers on this team, an anemic figure by league standards, Clements/Spikes/Schobel on D and Evans/McGahee on O.  Clements can't get his hands on passes if there is no pass rush, the news on Spikes recovery is somewhat discouraging, Evans is hamstrung by the lack of a proven passer and McGahee doesn't appear to care enough about the game to be bothered with the finer points.  There are a handful of promising young players, but no more than most teams have and less than you might expect from a team that has been out of the playoffs for such a long time.

As for their predicted record, the Bills of 2003-2004 lost more than a seasons worth of road games in a row with a lot more talent than these Bills, so it's certainly not a stretch that they would go 0-8 this year, and among the home opponents, the only team they stand toe-to-toe with right now is the Jets.  I see them as a 2-14 team with wins against the Packers and Jets at the Ralph.

Maybe Ralph's plan here is taken from the script for the movie "Major League"

  5. How could we afford McNair and Brady Quinn? :w00t:

Seriousily how about we wait for this season to even start before discussing this and then my answer will probably still be no.  I'm incredibly tired of wasting high picks on qb's. I'd rather build a team that build a quaterback. Buffalo is not an ideal place for a great passing offense. We Dont need the next whoever, some awesome passer who will put up 4000 yards and 28 tds every season. We need someone who can just open things up, and occasionaly make a play while leaning on the running game.  Thats not too much to ask.  I'd much rather waste 1st rd picks on boring linemen then franchise qb's. I'd also like to see Brady Quinn have more then one good year before giving this serious thought.

Exactly why you should all keep your eyes on Troy Smith - he will have a monster year.

  6. Well that was an uplifting article about the Bills staying in Buffalo this morning, wasn't it kid???  Thanks Bucky for making me even more depressed about their staying put.

At the end of the article he asks what will we do when they're gone.  I, for one, will be hard pressed to watch another NFL game.  Screw the NFL if our team goes.  I'd say I'd pay more attention to the wife and kids, but she tells me they're in college now anyway.

Stories like this will make it even harder for people to invest their hearts (to say nothing of their $$) in the Bills. It could become a self-fulfilling prophesy. Bills fans have shown their willingness to fill the stadium when the product on the field is average, at best. Will they continue to do so when "their" team threatens to become someone else's team?

  7. Rochester was #7 for top market for expansion. Rochester also has a higher area total personal income ($43.9 billion) than Buffalo ($41.4 billion). Maybe the Bills should move here.  :D

I guarantee you that some of the geographical areas mentioned (LA for example) are bigger than combining Buffalo and Rochester and everything in between

  8. From Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame.  Guess he was a two way player (fullback, not quarterback) at Michigan.  I gotta go with George, Tony a close second.

An All-American at defensive back and fullback for Michigan State, the Spartan MVP in 1961 and 1962 and a member of the Spartan all-time defensive team, George Saimes joined the Buffalo Bills in 1963. He quickly developed into an outstanding safety and became a key member of the outstanding Bills defensive squads, which produced AFL Championships in 1964 and 1965. In that 1964 season, George had a career-high six interceptions and earned the first of his five AFL All-Star Game appearances. George achieved All-AFL honors five times, and he is a member of the all-time AFL Defensive Team.

Saimes anchored a hard-hitting Buffalo secondary during a Bills career which lasted until 1969. His career spanned the best of times and worst of times of the franchise, and his contributions have been recognized by selection to the Bills' Silver Anniversary All-Star team. Saimes joined former Bills Booker Edgerson and Coach Lou Saban in Denver in 1970 and concluded his NFL career as a Bronco in 1972.

Since 1984, Saimes has served as director of college scouting for the Washington Redskins. The high degree of success enjoyed by the Redskins in the past decade is surely a reflection on George's considerable scouting talents and contributions to that organization.

  9. I dont think there was a penalty on McKellar or a penalty at all. Two plays before the kick, there was a replay to review a catch that McKellar made off the tip of his shoe. It was ruled a catch and the next play I think thurman ran one and then came the kick. If I'm wrong I'd like to know, because that 5 yards certainly could/would have made a difference both psychologically and physically for Norwood.

When will they win one. 15 years later and I'm still breaking down Norwoods kick. Just one, thats all I want. The thing thats so hard about SB 25 is that you could sense victory the entire game. Even when the giants had lead  at the end, and the bills started from about the 10 on the final drive, you knew they were going to move the ball down the field. That was the best team this organization has ever put on the field, and they were so fun to watch. I think about those losses a lot this time of year, as I'm sure all of you do. It reminds me we once had a dominant team, and I hope this new regime can restore some of the pride to the Bills that we've been missing for a long time.

    592150

I remember thinking I would rather have the time saved had McKellar dropped that ball than the I yard we gained from his catch.

  10. I don't think the Bills are going to say Bates refused their offer, when they never published in the 1st place that an offer was ever made to Bates....

Probably the crooky professor from ESPN will eventually get around to it....Remember he is from pittsburgh and lives out in Seattle....Probably he is still figuring out which team to support in the superbowl...

    587556

The Great Gazoo yesterday said Bates would probably just sit out the year and take the Packer $ because it was more than the Bills offered

  11. If the competitors are Holcomb and Losman, Holcomb wins hands down.

Losman hasn't had enough NFL game experience to challenge a veteran QB.  He can't read NFL defenses at Holcomb's level, and no amount of film study will bring him up to a competitive speed.

The Bills didn't commit themselves to JP's developement this season.

We can argue whether they should have, or not, but the fact is - they didn't.

Why in the world would they commit to him in '06?  They won't, so stop the BS, please!

There has to be a reality check at OBD and with the fans.

Many fans see things as OBD's management does.  They're not willing to sacrifice short-term success for possible long-term success.  It's a gamble that may or may not pay off, and they're content with the 'bird in the hand'.  Fans desire an 'era' filled with glorious victories, but are willing to settle for backing into playoff games with mediocre teams - and don't think that goes unnoticed.

Well to each their own, but you can't have it both ways - especially where the QB position is concerned.  It's still the most important position on the field, and if you're not willing to lose games developing a young guy, than you have to secure a solid veteran starter and his backup.  Don't look for a green kid to outplay a solid vet, even if he's a 1st rounder.

OBD can't be wishy-washy about this.  They must come to grips with their inability to make decisions that aren't based upon the whims of the public, the media, and disgruntled vets.  This will free them from the pretense of rationalizing their whimsical draft picks and personnel decisions. Ralph Wilson has too long sat on the fence between making real commitments to Buffalo fans and transient attempts at satisfying public opinion.

An exorcism is necessary to remove the spirit that haunts OBD searching for it's spine.  Please don't waste any more time, newspaper ink and internet bytes promising a bright Bills future.  Many of us have heard the song and danced the dance for decades.  It's not a crime to lack backbone, it's just not a desirable trait for leaders, or those who wish to lead.

All that said, I would suggest the Bills heirarchy trade Losman for another '06 draft choice.  They may be able to salvage a high 2nd or low 3rd for him.  They can then bring in another discarded veteran QB to challenge Holcomb as the '06 starter, and use a 4th to 7th round pick on a college QB to carry the clip-board.

Bret Favre? For those of you who cry sacrilege - remember Montana as a Chief?

  12. Van Miller did Niagara games. Charley Bailey did Canisius games. I'll always remember 1970 St. Bona basketball team: Lanier, Gary, Gantt, Satilin, Kalbaugh, Kull, Klimkowski, and the garbageman Johnny Hayes!

With Calvin Murphy at Niagara and Randy Smith at Buffalo State - those were the golden days of western New York college basketball.
