Absolutely right IMO. That throw was on a rope if he’s not knocked backward. We’ve seen him make that throw countless times… none better than the one against Denver a few years back when he connected with Kumerow.

What about last year vs the Vikings in OT? JA had basically that same exact throw, except it was intended for Davis (and his route took him right to left across the back of the end zone), and the throw was too low and also behind Davis, and it was picked off to end the game. And no one bumped into JA  on that throw.

There are NO guarantees in NFL football. Shakir still had to have made the catch too.

Funny to see folks saying that he made the right decision, even though the end result is that the play failed. Personally, if something fails, I call it the wrong decision.

The pass to an open Diggs was the right thing to do.

  2. No he didn’t. Especially because it didn't succeed.

Exactly. If Chris Jones doesn't drive Dion into Josh then that is a TD. BTW, he still would have probably missed Diggs underneath for the same reason. The only criticism that I can muster here is that maybe Josh should have slid to his right a bit to get clear of the pressure, but that is really picking nits.

Jus like the OP threw out bad things that MAY have happened had they played to run out the clock, I'll throw out that the catch still had to be made. Of course, there is ZERO guarantee of that.

I like Kelly but that's kind've silly.  Wasn't the knock on Kelly he didn't do enough on that last drive to get the Bills closer to Norwood's ideal yard range?  47 yards was no chip shot back in 1991

This is 100% spot on. They let their foot off the gas at the end, and it cost them, big time.

And that loss affected me greatly. I was 30, and had a huge SB party in my basement, in Rome, NY, with a lot of my USAF coworkers. I was expecting a win.

Nowadays, I guess with age, we all mellow out and realize there are many more important things in life to get upset about. And of course with this current Bills team, I expect nothing! LOL

That team is an instant contender. You don't play for him and lack discipline. That team was pillow soft. They will be aggressive, physical, and disciplined on both sides. Herbert will get a rushing game. My only spec of happiness in this is it will strengthen the west.

We shall see. Coaching prima donnas in the pros is WAY different than coaching college prima donnas.

Maybe Josh should have thrown over the middle.  The thing is that reads are a split second decision. Josh seen Diggs one on one. He saw him get open. There is a timing to that. If Josh comes off him to check someone else, there is no going back.  If Shakir isn't open there then what?  Diggs was open.

I think people nitpick too much.  Its easy to play armchair QB when you can pause.  Its easy to play armchair when there is no pressure on you and you can just look at each receiver over and over and paused and what have you.  Its not the same as looking from behind the pocket with bodies flying around and you have 3 seconds or less to find you guy and deliver the ball.

Allen has a special talent.  That talent is not the same talent as Tom Brady or Kurt Warner.

First off, Diggs was one on one, but he was not open when JA made the decision to throw him the ball. Go back and look at the video again. When JA releases the ball, the safety is actually running behind Diggs. Yes, when the ball finally gets there, Diggs is (barely) behind the safety, but the safety is right there, about one foot away.

Everybody touts JA as one of the top 3 QBs in the league, so shouldn't his decision-making be better, at this point, what, 5-6 years into his career? Throughout this season we've half-jokingly wondered whether we'd see "Good Josh" or "Bad Josh."

Finally, what makes JA different than Tom Brady or Kurt Warner is his running abilty. But JA still has a ways to go before he equals those 2 guys on reading defenses and making the right decision regarding where to throw the ball. The play we're discussing here perfectly illustrates the latter.

These issues were present with Dorsey too.  Not sure on Daboll.  Don't forget we lost Chad Hall.  WR coach I am sure has a lot to do with teaching this stuff and getting it right.

I mean, it ain't brain surgery out there.

On one play Warner analyzes, Diggs is lined up wide left, and he runs straight up the field for a while, but to the outside of the defender, then he moves toward a post route. Warner said he should have gotten inside of the defender ASAP, and run a true post because the middle of the field was wide open. Does a veteran, #1 receiver need to be taught how to do that?!

  8. I'm gonna go against the grain here....I think he's too old and spent. I don't want him anywhere near OBD.

Plus, for God's sake, this man was the face of our mortal enemy for decades!

I'd take Vrabel or Harbaugh in a heartbeat, because like so many others in here, I think McD has done all that he can do, and he's never going to get us to the SB.

  9. @Scott7975I just tried to post a freeze frame of that play, showing just as Josh is releasing the ball, but by the time I shrunk the pic to allow it, it was garbage. LOL

In any case, just as JA is releasing the ball, Shakir is really wide open, and would have got the pass 20 yards past the LOS, and the nearest guy is 8 yards away......while Diggs is basically covered. The safety is actually running behind Diggs when the ball is released.

Again, 62 yards in the air, on a cold & windy NIGHT. As I stated earlier, I'm really curious to know if Diggs even saw the ball early enough to make the catch.

Our  CEO called us all into a meeting today, said our work was “OK”, but he was looking around to see if he could find better personnel.

If he can’t, we can keep our jobs.

It was really great for morale!!!

I hate to tell you this, but from my 40+ years of work experience, many bosses/owners are always looking for younger "new talent", who will do the same job you're doing, and be willing to be paid less. Personally, I've had it happen to me a couple times (was fired).

Lesson is to always have your updated resume ready, and some savings available to get you through til your next job.

He didn't say that at all.  He said it was an incredible throw and yes it should have been caught but its tough to track it 65 yards down field.  He says he gets it Diggs was open but for him the percentages he would have went with the guy over the middle (I believe that was Shakir.)  He also says he doesn't know what Josh is told and he could be told if you get your best player one on one with the safety to take the shot. He never said anything about it being dumb.  You are injecting that from your own opinion.

You are correct, and I am sorry for that choice of word. Yes, I was inferring and reading between the lines, and giving my opinion of what KW was actually saying.

Of course Warner would never outright diss JA by putting him down, or calling him "dumb." I would bet the farm that there definitely is a brotherhood amongst all NFL QBs, past, present, & future, and rarely would you ever hear one insult another. But OTOH, his analysis obviously does hint that JA made some bad/wrong decisions that night. He specifically notes that in the 4th qtr there was a noticeable change in JA's decision making.

I want Allen making that throw EVERY SINGLE TIME.

That ball was a rainbow, 62 yards in the air, with a 10-15mph wind, AT NIGHT, in 20° temperature. Not really sure if Diggs even saw it until it was too late.

IN THIS INSTANCE, I'll side with Warner, and say it was a dumb decision, and he should have gone to the wide open guy over the middle.

Josh had an 86.1 passer rating in the Chiefs game.  Against the Bengals in playoffs last year it was 68.   Those are both below average

Passer rating is still a thing?

Does the passer rating account for this play?

    Diggs drop.jpg

Just throwing this out there: If you watch Kurt Warners All-22 review (Part 2)...there's a separate thread for it...he basically says that this long bomb to Diggs was a dumb move by JA, with a very low chance of success, because he had another receiver Wide Open over the deep middle of the field.

Of course I am a huge JA fan, and am very thankful that he plays for the Bills, but I also agree that he did not have anywhere near a perfect game last Sunday. If you go to that Kurt Warner thread, and watch both parts 1 & 2, this will be blatantly obvious. And yes, there were MANY other things that contributed to the L, but I can be honest about JA too. Without him, the Bills get blown out in that game. Without him the last 6 years, the Bills are at or below .500 every year.

Still ? After what McD & Beane just did as a coach & GM in tandem kept the team together and getting the players to fill holes to go on a run to win 6 in a row you people are unbelievable ungrateful for what it took just to get to the play offs this year ...

I just watched the Kelsey brothers pod cast they were giving the Bills HUGE praise & respect on how good they were despite all the injuries, I wish fans could see it just crazy .

My opinion is that MANY people in here are way more knowledgeable about the Bills' organization's strengths, weaknesses, tendencies, coaching tactics, etc, than the Kelce brothers. Just because they're players, that means very little when discussing the nuances of the Buffalo Bills (or really, any team other than their own).

There are people in here who have been watching and studying the Bills (and NFL footbal) for decades, and have seen every Bills' play, in every game this year. How many Bills games have the Kelce brothers seen this year, other than the one each saw when they were on the opposing sidelines? And my experience of watching the league for 50+ years says that during a game, when a starting/active player is not out on the field, he's really not paying close attention to the game, and definitely not paying close attention to every move that the coaches are making, like rabid fans certainly ARE.

It shouldn't have mattered what they were ready for.

They had 10 players on the field and the Bills had 8 blockers to 6 Chief rushers.

Against those numbers the Bills should have been able to tell them exactly what they planned to do, then do it and the Chiefs shouldn't have been able to stop it.

    This post is disingenuous.

At the snap of the ball, the Chiefs had 5 guys down on the LOS, 3 on the Bills' right side, but only 2 on the left side (where Hamlin went). They also had a guy 3 yards off the LOS on the left side. They had 2 guys way wide covering one gunner, and one guy close to Hamlin's path covering the other gunner, but those 3 guys were not invloved in the play at all. Meanwhile, the Bills had 3 guys on the left side (2 on the LOS and one a couple yards back). All the Bills had to do was have the center pull left to block, and then have the right side G and tackle, & right side guy who was about 2 yards off the LOS, seal off the left side from those other 3 down linemen. They would have had 4 blockers on 3 guys in front of Hamlin.

Now KC was definitely ready for it, because those 3 linemen on the right side immediately went toward Hamlin after the snap. And the key thing here is that the Bills who were supposed to block for Hamlin did a terrible job.

I still think it was a "dumb call", but after looking at it closely, it could have worked, had the Bills executed it better. The latter....good execution....has been a problem for them all year.

  16. Just watched part 1. My takeaways: the Bills' play designs suck (Warner even notes this), the Bills' receivers are not that good at separating from their defenders, and KC's secondary played very good/disciplined defense. Just as we've seen throughout the year, some of those plays put multiple receivers very close to each other down the field...not good.

On Thursday I spoke with my sister who confidently asserted her belief that the bills were going to the Superbowl. I had felt the same way for the last two weeks at least. I felt really good being that guy who would have predicted the inevitable bills run.

They used to trick me every year of the drought. Now the trick comes a little later in the season. My foolish optimism has doomed us again!

This is the exact kind of Woofing I referred to upthread! 😂

If we can unload Diggs and his contract somehow someway it will be a huge win for Buffalo. I was okay with the off-field drama because he was producing, but he’s been trash since mid-season. I also feel like Josh feels obligated to get him the ball to keep him happy. If Kincaid can develop into a top TE then they should run the offense through him and get a speedy deep threat #1 in the first round to take the top off the defense. Get rid of Gabe Davis and put Shakir in the 2 spot who’s turning into a stud. A true slot in the Beasley/Welker mold would benefit Josh greatly like it did in the past. The whole offense needs to be revamped other than the running game. Diggs is no longer the focal point and I don’t think he would accept a lesser role. Easier said than done, but this would be my ideal situation.

I had that same feeling for ssssoooo many throws over the past 9 games. And many times they picked up less than 10 yards or went incomplete.

I rewatched some of the game last night, and on the drive with the fake punt, JA went to Diggs on 3rd down but the ball was batted down at the LOS. Thing is Diggs was not past the 1st down marker, and two Chiefs were right there, so it seemed highly unlikely that even if he did make a catch that he was going to get the 1st down.

  19. I think maybe there was too much Woofing going on by Bills fans...me included...prior to the game. Its the same reason why we lost those 4 SBs.

    Excerpt from the link:

I am a big fan of the Bills, and I believe that they can go all the way. However, I keep my mouth shut. Do my mere thoughts count as a woof, and am I the reason that the Bills have lost in three consecutive Super Bowls?

No--private thoughts do not apply. Only boasts which are written or
spoken to another person or group of people apply. Thus you are not
responsible for the Bill's failings. The reason the Bills lose in the
Super Bowl is twofold: First, lots of Bills fans engage in large-scale
woofing, and second, the Bills suck. (Cheer up, Buffalo fans. My comment
    should aid them a little.)
