Trump ❤️ Tariffs
Joe Ferguson forever replied to The Frankish Reich's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
We’ll see. All of his spokesmen today said the tariffs are permanent or at least wouldn’t say they were not permanent. They need to be honest with the American people and our allies. This is the kind of bad faith business that reaped him multiple bankruptcies. I hope he does walk it back and everything works out fine. But I don’t think he smart enough to pull it off. -

I saw many unexpected protesters yesterday, even "modern" republicans. Most were older and carried signs like "Hands off Social Security", "Hands off Medicare", "Hands off my 401K... Once inflation hits, I think we'll see more complaints from everyday maga's. Their perspective will change. Perhaps that will change trump's plan but I'm not hopeful. -

MAGAs will be reminded every morning. Sadly, so will smart people. The number of cups of coffee Americans drink daily varies slightly depending on the source. According to some reports, Americans collectively consume about 400 million cups of coffee each day. However, a more recent report from the National Coffee Association indicates that this number has increased to approximately 517 million cups per day. This reflects a significant increase in coffee consumption over recent years. Guess what? You can’t grow coffee in any of the United States of America except Hawaii. And you can’t begin to grow enough coffee in Hawaii to meet even a small part of America’s daily demand. So you have import it from all around the world (Africa, South America, Central America, Asia). Right now, a cup of coffee or a can of coffee at the supermarket or a 5-pound bag from News Items’ favored roasting company, costs X. This week it will cost X plus 10%. At least. If the coffee comes from certain countries, it will cost X plus a lot more. Politically speaking, what the White House has managed to create here is a dailyreminder to every single coffee drinker in the United States of America that their cost of living has increased. Every day they will get this little memo: Your coffee used to cost $1.75. Now it costs $2.00. We’re sorry. Tough luck. Sincerely yours — the Trump administration. In the annals of political stupidity go, there are “own goals” and there are “own goals”. This one is epic. -

I do. The wine shop in town is teetering. owner says most of her profit comes from French wine- great quality at a low wholesale price. She' going to give it a few weeks but she is distraught. -
Ape face seems to get some advanced knowledge https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14575733/Marjorie-Taylor-Greene-stock-market-treasury-bills-donald-trump-tariffs.html there were many more people protesting against trump in my little town than Brits protesting in London. That's pathetic. Bunch of way outliers....

Dude, if Billy Strings was playing Roanoke, way less than 5% of the population would go see him and he's huge in these parts. As I said, this is a red area. some folks were likely put off by the possible slings and arrows. If 5% of the national population marches today, that's 15 million. good enough for me. -

Gorgeous Virginia spring day for a protest. 500 people with signs in a town of 10,000. 5%!!! All kinds of folks. Average Joes and Janes, veterans, hippies, lawyers, doctors, professors, coal miners, gay, straight...you name it. I'd estimate 10 positive horn beeps for every middle finger or taunt and this is a deep red area. One dude in a jacked up pick up kept circling playing his stupid "Dukes of Hazzard" horn. There was a young women behind me that looked a bit like Daisy. So it evened out. Best poster: "Types of Ticks - Deer Tick, Mouse tick , Luna-tik with pictures of the insects and trump. my "obey the constitution" was very tame. It was a good time and somewhat reassuring. -
don't believe a thing orange pig says. The opposite is generally true. from the CBC: During his speech, Trump also claimed Canada imposes a "250 to 300 per cent tariff on many of our dairy products. They do the first can of milk, the first carton of milk at a very low price but after that it gets bad." "Take a look at what happens down the road when you look a little bit, it's not a pretty picture," Trump added. "And it's not fair. It's not fair to our farmers, it's not fair to our country." His claim is not entirely true. Those high tariffs on U.S. dairy only apply if exports exceed set quotas. Below the quotas, the U.S. dairy products enter tariff-free because of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. US imports have never exceeded the quota so ZERO tariffs have been paid by US farmers on dairy products!!!

fox news has stopped running the ticker on its banner. fair and balanced. -
Actually not the arguments made by posters here or by their favorite shite bloggers. but if you listened to Navarro Thursday, you'd be a bigger loser. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/the-many-ways-trump-world-is-explaining-the-markets-tariff-tantrum-115549905.html Some have suggested that the transitory effects are already receding, with Navarro noting Thursday afternoon on CNBC that he used to commentate on market moves and temporarily putting back on his pundit hat to say that technicians are suggesting "we are at or near bottom; they're probably right." But stocks fell even more sharply on Friday as comments like those from Powell increasingly made clear Trump's planned tariffs are exceeding expectations. Their economic effects, Powell said, "will include higher inflation and slower growth." Other economic observers have worried that the economy is dangerously close to a recession after the bigger-than-expected tariff rollout of recent days. "Hang tough," President Trump shot back on Friday. "We can't lose." It'd be funny were it not so terrible.

so how did trump calculate those tariff numbers imposed by other countries on the graph that magas just blindly accepted? https://taxfoundation.org/blog/trump-reciprocal-tariffs-calculations/ this is from a fiercely libertarian site the a friend frequents. he generally supported trump before the tariffs. First, the formula. The alleged “tariff rate” from each trading partner is fully a function of trade aggregates, specifically, the deficit divided by US imports, with a minimum of 10 percent. No factors discussed by the administration in these documents or anywhere else (like tariffs, digital services taxes, value-added taxes, or monetary policy) play any role. For example, Singapore is a relatively free-trade-oriented country, while Brazil makes considerably more use of tariffs and other trade manipulations. However, both end up with the 10 percent rate because of their goods trade balances with the US. By contrast, Vietnam, which exports a great deal to the US but has also worked to make its policies amenable to the US, gets no credit for the effort. The US response is generally half the alleged rate from other countries, though in some cases it appears to round up an extra percentage point beyond a simple halving.
