  1. No way to all this "let's do the Sammy thing again".  Beane HAS to somehow at the very least create a 3rd rd. pick...if nothing else.

He is gonna have to use future pick(s) to do it but, we need a good haul of a young core this year.

With a 3rd, we can use later rd. picks to move around...or to move around in the 2nd. We absolutely have to come up with at least one 3rd.

This brings bad memories of Watkins.  We moved up for him and the following players were drafter after:  Evans, OBJ. Adams (2nd rd), Robinson, and a bunch more with better career.  I am not opposed to moving up a few rungs to get the guy you want but don’t mortgage the future.  Think how much fun draft next year will be without a first or second

No way would I trade up more than 2-4 spots, and that'd be for Latu.

Nabers, Harrison and Odunze weren’t the ones drafted last year. Lasts years WR class was mediocre at best, the top 3 this year are elite. I trade 2 1sts, a 2nd and a couple of mid round picks all day for Nabers and probably Odunze. Harrison is as good as gone - worst kept secret or ARI

I would too but NYG want to participate in the draft post rd 1. This would wipe them out pick wise, leaving them only 166 and 183. For two guys fighting for their jobs, they’re not sacrificing 2024

True, but they'd have our 25 1st to shop with....and didn't they trade for Burns? Not my problem. Plus they can trade back from 6.

Edit: Oh and fill their roster out with our P.S.

Look, I know Bleacher Report isn't really serious, but their package for Aiyuk to the Bills is our 1st and a 5th. I just did a thing about how the Bills look like an excellent fit make a variation on what Shanahan is doing with the Niners. I would make that trade in a heartbeat.

I love the BR draft profiles. Seems pretty thorough, easy to navigate and seems to maybe give more realistic selection projections....and my favorite part, pro comparisons.

That isn't the contract you are trading for though. That is the point. You can't adjust the contract before he is on your team and he can't be on your team unless you can absorb the contract without being over the cap.

The ONLY way of doing it is getting him to sign a new deal with the 49ers, and trusting them and the Bills that they will still trade him and the Bills will immediately re-do that deal again. And that kind of thing doesn't happen.

Well he is the only trade scenario I would consider. So, give me (28) Ladd and Legette. Two good complimentary guys....somehow.

It can't go down by tomorrow. Aiyuk is on a 5th year option at $14m. That means to trade for him we'd need to be able to absorb that contract (even if we then immediately extend him and lower the hit) and we can't. We can't extend him until he is on our roster. He can't be on our roster unless we can absorb the current contract.

Could he do a 1 year extension with SF, to lower his hit to nothing this year on the basis he has a gentleman's agreement that the Bills would immediately re-do that deal again? Possible, but unlikely.

How about a 14 mil. signing bonus?

Trade our 1st this year and a 4th next year for Aiyuk.  Draft the best WR available in round 2.  Next year you'll have a 1st and two 2nd's to address likely needs (CB, DE, and OT).

I like this idea, however, what about trading next years 1st and 4th for Aiyuk while moving to pick 31 and getting pick 90. That would be my take it or leave it deal to SF. Good luck getting a 1st for him with all the WRs in this class.

If there's a Chop, an Olineman, maybe a Nix or Pennix that the Niners want, then there's the offer.

BTW, Then I'm taking McConkey at 31 and targeting Sweat with the 2nd.

He is going to go after a WR early...and he has always been aggressive to get what he wants and needs.  That does not mean it will be at 28.  Would not surprise me to see us trade back and try and add another 3rd and then double dip on WR's with one off the small trade back and use one of the 3rds on another promising prospect.

I would target SF and try to get one of those last 3rds. I think BB's mission is to create an extra 2nd and 3rd. Then those later rd. spots can help us jockey around a bit. I believe in this draft, he want's to make a haul of a quality core for the future.

I honestly didn’t think we would go WR until rd4 a week ago. Now not only think they will go with a wr in rd1 I believe they make a crazy move and try for one of the top 3-4 guys

I'm not banking on some sell the farm trade. Maybe Beane plans on using that extra 2nd as well as next yrs. 1st to create some action in the 2nd and 3rd rds.

I'd much rather have 4 picks there to work with( in addition to 28) instead of selling out for one guy.....who could tear an ACL going to the podium.

Of the remaining options, nobody consistently gets seperation,is more versatile, and has an elite shuttle time like McConkey. Ran a 4.39  I think he fits JB's gameplan well with Shakir/Samuel all being versatile, imagine the pre snap motions. Add in the DK's and Cook,it could be quite interesting. Also, grab Javon Baker(or similar) later and I'd be thrilled

Yeah I do believe Ladd is gonna be a great player with a personality that this team would covet.

I've liked Brian Thomas Jr. as a trade up target, but I listened to Locked On Bills and Joe Marino seems really high on Xavier Legette and has him rated higher than Thomas. Both of those guys are really intriguing to me. Both have size, speed, and explosiveness. If we could land either of them in round one, I'd be happy.

Marino describes Legette as a big, physical, alpha male receiver. He's a big receiver who plays big. Explosive accelerator. He can get off blocks in a hurry. Very good at yards after catch. Creative and sees the field well. He can win the edge on outside handoffs if you want to hand the ball off to him. Asset in the screen game and return game. He has that "my ball' mentality when the ball is in the air. Good body control and concentration.

And much more. He sounds perfect to me.

But, do they want him enough to not mind him being around 30 when 2nd contract comes up?  Personally, I'd love to have him and paired with Walker.

    I figured they'd draft 2,but now maybe 3?

Lots of decent shouts already in this thread. Here are my sleepers - some of whom I mentioned in another post last week but with a bit of added detail here:

    Elijah Jones, Cornerback, Boston College

    3rd round grade

Elijah Jones has risen through the process to the point where he is probably a consensus day two pick whereas when I first assigned him a round 3 grade it was common to see people talking about him as a day three guy. The thing that stand out with him is ball skills - he had five interceptions in 2023 - and his ability to play press technique at the line. He reminds me a bit of Emmanuel Forbes last year and a bit of Kaiir Elam the year before in that he is tall and slender and sometimes his long limbs cause him issues in transitions when playing off. Neither of those guys has been a success yet in the league but I'd argue both were forced into schemes they didn't truly fit and you are not paying a 1st round price to snag Jones. The other concern is Jones is already 24 and the fact that he hasn't begun to fill out his frame at that age is a factor teams need to consider.

    Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, Safety, Texas Tech

    Round 3 grade

Dadrion Taylor-Demerson also fits the description of a guy that the talking heads have now caught up to after a really strong Combine. I was told by one well connected source that the league was already pretty high on him before that and he benefits from being in a class where a lot of the popular early safety names fit better as box guys who can cover half the field in two deep looks. DTD is a genuine deep safety with the speed to go side to side as a centre fielder and can also reduce down and play the nickel in certain packages. He can improve his tackling against the run, but at the same time he forced incompletions on 20% of the plays where he was targeted in 2023. In a passing league that does not go unnoticed.

    Deantre Prince, Cornerback, Ole Miss

    Round 4 grade

Another defensive back but this time one where the consensus definitely hasn't caught up with me on him despite Prince running a 4.38 in the 40 yard dash at the Combine. He is another corner that just always seems to be around the ball and has had 16 pass breakups the past two seasons. He is also a fantastic run support defender with 5 tackles for loss in 2023. That aggression can sometimes be used against him and there it, it must be said, some inconsistency on his film which leaves you wondering whether he goes full gas every down but I think he could be a starting nickel in the right scheme and has enough size to get by on the boundary too if needs be.

Jalyx Hunt, EDGE, Houston Christian University

    Round 5 grade

It will be no surprised to people who have asked me about it this draft season but I am not high on the depth of this edge class. Proof of the pudding comes in Hunt being my 12th ranked edge despite putting up just 6.5 sacks playing in the FCS Southland Conference against such college football powerhouses as McNeese State University and Prairie View A&M. But this guy was at the Senior Bowl and has some raw ingredients. He is super explosive, he has length, he can bend and he has quick twitchy feet - that is a pretty good starting point for any edge rusher. He has mainly been a stand up guy in a 3-4 and needs to add some bulk and be better converting speed to power to be a three down player but as a situational pass rusher this guy is worth a swing, especial for 3-4 defense teams.

    Darius Muasau, Linebacker UCLA

    Round 6/7 grade

Muasau was a stand out performer at the East-West Shrine game and while he won't wow anyone with size or speed he is relentless in terms of his motor and his pursuit of the football. Despite his size he plays tough and physical against the inside run game, maintains lane discipline and wins reps based on his instincts and play recognition skills. He needs to work on his pass coverage, especially zone drops, but he could earn his way onto the field early just through his sheer effort.

    Roger Rosengarten, Offensive Tackle, Washington

    4th round grade

Roger Rosengarten is a guy who knows how to play offensive tackle. In terms of understanding of how rushers are trying to attack him and using his technique and length to maintain his blocks he is a high level prospect. The questions are mainly about athleticism and whether he uses his size as effectively as he could. I know his RAS score from the combine was impressive but you don't see an athletic prospect so much on tape. That will drop him to this sort of range where someone will pick up a starting offensive lineman, either at tackle or shifted inside to guard.

    Cornelius Johnson, Wide Receiver, Michigan

    4th round grade

Johnson is yet another older prospect (23) and this class does seem to be littered with them on day 3. He is an athletic freak who just leaves you wanting more from him when you watch the tape. The modest production, to an extent, can be put down to the offense he played in for the Wolverines. When you watch the 2022 Ohio State game tape you think this guy has WR1 potential in the NFL but the consistency hasn't been there and he has struggled against man coverage in particular. However he is 6'2, 212lbs runs a 4.45 and is physical at the catch point. That skillset remains tantalising if he can put it all together.

    Tip Reiman, Tight End, Illinois

    5th round grade

Reiman looked like the classic backup tight end who has the ability to block and while he needs to tidy up his technique some could sustain a career in the league with the combination of blocking ability and sure hands as an occasional passing option. However, when he blew up the Combine posting a 9.92 RAS score I think a lot of people re-traced their steps and took a second look. He actually reminds me some of Dawson Knox. He is going to be a serviceable two way tight end who will excel in the redzone. He isn't quite as agile or quick as Knox but there are some similarities in their game, especially with ball in hand.

Antony Gould, Wide Receiver, Oregon State

    6th/7th round grade

Gould is a classic late day 3 type receiver who is going to be a weapon in the return game and play a bit of gimmick receiver for you on bubble screens, reverses and jet sweeps. He ran a 4.39 at the Combine after scoring a punt return touchdown in the Shrine Bowl which has contributed to him moving up boards in the spring. I think he has probably earned himself a draft pick now, and his special teams ability give him a shot to make an NFL roster.

    Thanks, keep em coming.

Just playing devil’s advocate - couldn’t same be said for WR?  They have “found” starters without spending big $ in FA or high draft picks - and the offense has been very good.

To be clear, both WR and the secondary have been more “it’s fine” than “hey, this is a strength”.  I am for Wr in round 1, provided that there is not a much higher rated player at another premium position including DE, DT, OT and CB.  I actually would be excited to trade down and get either a late 3rd or early 4th.  No WR that has any likelihood of being available is a “can’t pass up” guy.  I could align with Mitchell, Legette or McConkey with some reservations on each.

In my view, if Verse, Latu, Murphy or Newton are there, I’d be very tempted.  I could also really understand if they took Chop Robinson.

That’s the challenge.  If you take WR in the first, you could probably get an equivalent talent 10 picks later, though maybe not an X.  BUT, if you pass on WR at 28 or after small trade down, you could be down to the 4th tier in WR by 60.

That's why next years 1st is in play. It should get us an extra 2nd and 3rd this year, where BB can make hay. With at least a few teams with 2 2nd and 3rd rounders, now's the time to strike. Our 4ths and 5ths combined wouldn't give us a sniff of a 3rd.

However, we could end up with ie: 28,41,60 and 88. Then those later picks could give us to wiggle room.

I like that very much, Smith is perfect at that spot. Very athletic for his size, just needs the proper coaching and motivation.

Like Latu getting poopooed and falling to us, maybe the same will work for us with Smith...( bit of an injury history etc.)

Can you imagine getting Latu, Sweat and Smith? Young , solid core of intimidating DLine for years.

I really like Robinson as an inside/out player. End on early downs, inside on passing downs. The problem being as with all McDermott picks he'll have to earn his time, so drafting him that early means he'll make the team but his contribution year one, will be light.

This is where I like Maason Smith. 6'6" 315 can play anywhere and draws comps. to Calais Campbell. Could also have some Chris Jones to him. If we can get him at 128?

  16. I'm thinking DL or WR rd. 1 barring a trade back. I can't see them moving up more than 4 picks if at all. That being said, I think Thomas is out by late teens.

Mitchell and Worthy not long after. Would they go with Legette given the one yr. production and knowing he's be pretty much 30 by 2nd contract time?

Would they value McConkey enough for the 5 yr. deal?

As far as DL goes, I like Murphy and Newton, but why go 3 tech there?  If they can go to 24 or 26 and get a game wrecking Latu for a 2 yr. old injury discount, it's Christmas in April. They can find 2 WRs a little later.

We need to hit on DE, DT and at least one WR.   Latu , McConkey, Sweat and Walker. Call me happy. BB will have to wheel and deal and I think he will.

  17. 4 hours ago, OldTimer1960 said:

Why would that be dumb?  Premium position, some 1st round prospects, need likely next year.

I really don’t understand the fear of CB in the first round- and we hear it every year at draft time.  It is a passing dominated league, somebody needs to cover receivers- hopefully well.

I am not arguing that they should take a CB in the first, but if they do it would not be like taking a RB or S or LB in the first- those positions have somewhat lesser value based on how the league pays them.

I shouldn't have said Dumb. If they took Q.Mitchell, I'd understand for sure...if for some reason, he made it to us. That guy's got all pro stank.

I'd prefer Latu. Not expecting Thomas to even get close.

  18. Walker will be the next Jaylen Waddle. ..or more.  My picks are:

Trade a 4th to Tb for 26 or even 4th and whatever to Jerry for 24. Get Latu ( given that Thomas jr. is long gone.) We need another Bruce and this guy is a cross between a Bosa and Seau. NFL.com comparison is T.J. Watt. Perfect, since Miller will be out next year. ....and we replace Floyd all in one shot.

Trade next years 1st for a 2nd and 3rd this year, get Sweat 2 WRs and Maason Smith....the next Calais Campbell. BPA after.

Give me Burton and Walker...or Legette and Walker or Polk and Walker, IDC.
