Thanks Chan! I loved that '79 squad; They faded at the end of the year and missed the playoffs, but showed tons of potential. Plus the draft going into that year was fantastic: despite &^%$# Tom Cousineau bailing out, the Bills landed Jerry Butler, Jim Haslett and Fred Smerlas, all future pro-bowlers -- plus Jeff Nixon in a later round, who was on a pro-bowl trajectory in 1980 when he injured his knee. (But 44 years ago?? Yikes ...)

    Very good draft!

Sure, but it also seemed reasonable to suspect that Beane was going to use his bevy of 2024 draft picks to move up the board a few times, and it didn't happen.

In fact, I'd say most would've agreed that it seemed MORE likely that Beane would use those extra picks to trade up than it was that he'd stand pat and use all the picks, but stand pat he did.

It's possible Beane just acquired the 2025 picks because he sees that the team needs to get younger and cheaper, and draft picks are the best way to do that. It's possible that it's just that simple, and that the thought "I'll use these as trade ammunition!" is not part of his thinking.

It drove me crazy that he probably could have easily had another 2nd and 3rd....and doubled down on WR and DT.

AJ Epenesa is my pick. I was dead certain he'd get a 4 year deal somewhere averaging 12-13M a year based on the flashes he showed with limited opportunities. Still just 25 coming off back to back 6.5 sack seasons, he'll have a much bigger role this year if the Bills don't make a splash acquisition. He was a far better player than Von Miller last season, and hopefully the Bills cut ties with him or keep him limited to a reserve role unless he's truly back.

Epenesa has his limitations, but he's got a very high motor and nose for the ball that guys like Milano and Bernard have. He'll never be an elite pass rusher, but he could be one of those key pieces to a championship defense. I think he offers something far more special than what I've seen out of Rousseau so far.

I think he's gonna keep getting better. He looks really fast to me.

People discussing Claypool think his best case scenario is being a decent player for us when his best case scenario is being a top 3 receiver. He was very good on a bad offense with a QB who was on his last leg. In less than 40 games with the Steelers he had over 2000 total yards, and then became a problem when teams started to try and make him into a TE type receiver. If we leave him on the outside and let him play his game he could be a great pickup. If he is garbage or a headache we cut him, the upside is far more than the downside, assuming the Bills discussed with him his issues in Chicago

Absolutely, we could have stumbled on the Deebo Samuel / Aiyuk sp? combo with Chase and Coleman ..of the east. I also expect Curtis Samuel to be an unexpected deep threat.

Happy to see him working on his footwork in that workout video being floated around.  Imo he has the body control fluidity to develop his route running.  He does that he the ability to be top wr.  Plus explosiveness and plus at the catch point.  Plus with the ball in his hands.  As many have detracted is his separation.  Crisper routes solve that issue.  I could see him being an immediate improvement over Gabe and potential to have a rookie of the year level season.

    That would be so great!

Beane said in his presser moving up in the draft was going to cost pick 60.  He was unwilling to give that up since they had more players with 2nd round grades and saw day 2 as the real value in the draft.

Yeah ok, but I would have pulled those 2025 picks out of my pocket and went shopping. There were numerous teams with multiple picks in rounds 2 and 3.

So next year we got bookoo picks and FA money. IMO, this was the time to gamble. You're either drafting or paying, this year we needed to draft.

I'm ok with the picks, but we coulda loaded up.

I would have rather gained a Burton or Walker and added another DT or something....in addition to....

BTW, the guy I'm hanging my hat on is Solomon. This team needs what only other teams seem to get on the DL.

I don’t have the exact quote but Beane basically said once he saw the last guy going his last tier he wanted Coleman in the next tier.

Can probably say that was Thomas he was referring to

I'm curious, why did BB not move up for Thomas? What 6 spots? ....an extra 2025 2nd? I don't believe I've heard Tasker or Brownie unpack that one.

We have a few young receivers from last season that might help.

Sometimes it's those type players that have an impact, not the first year players.

I'm very optimistic at WR and Coleman I'm coming around on him. Tired of hearing we have no speed, enough of that crap.

If these guys can play as a unit, they can be a scoring machine. All that no.1...no.2  no.3 stuff is all crap too. I'm trusting Brady to be all about mismatches week to week and everyone should benefit. BTW, I think Shavers could be our Troy Franklin.

This is true of most QBs, but not all. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think I remember hearing that Allen dislikes play action because he prefers to line up in shotgun and keep his eyes on the defense rather than line up under center and turn his back to the defense as play action requires.

Dorsey and Brady instead used RPOs out of shotgun to blend the run and pass games. But it might be something Allen has to get used to doing. If the Bills are going to run more, then he is probably going to line up under center more often. If that happens we will want to take advantage of using traditional play action.

I myself would prefer Josh in shotgun...with a clean pocket putting on a clinic.

Can't help but wonder if Josh will be more efficient without Diggs demanding targets. Just dropping back and reading what's available. .... Nobody questioning who's the boss on the field. ........ If Josh is as good as I think he is, he'll flourish doing what he sees in Brady's offense.

I'm expecting a great year for Josh. Nobody (allegedly) constantly nipping at his ankles. Gonna be larging and in charging.

Chase Claypool ain’t making the team unless he has had a complete epiphany.  The Bills are kicking the tires but he’s a long shot at best.

The biggest difference in the Bills’ WR room is that they are drafting/signing people who don’t drop the ball.

True that and if Beane is bringing Claypool in, I'll expect there was more thought put into it than mine. Give the kid a chance. signed...Plexico Burress.

    LOL

I've been trying to recall just what Josh said about Dorsey as OC when he was promoted, and it really was pretty much that positive.  There was stuff about "my career changed when he walked into the building" and such like.  Very positive.

The thing is it didn't stay that way long, it became "I have to see the field the same way he does as OC" which in hindsight, sounds like struggling.

Those are the 4 that were at or around our original pick, but I honestly don't think Worthy was on our board in the late 1st/early 2nd at all.

I also think if the Bills had Legette on there it must have been significantly lower, because Carolina was NOT subtle about telegraphing their Legette Love.

I think a deal was made ahead of time so they could get Legette in the first.

Then you do what it takes to move up and grab at least one of the top 4 if not top 3. This was the time to sell out and get into the top 10. We have cap space next season and could used free agency and not have a 1st rounder. Heck we didn’t use a first this year so what is the difference?

Not only that, not using at least a 2025 2nd to move up in the 2nd and pick up a 3rd was dereliction of duty. Sitting on his thumbs waiting for 60 then 95 blows my mind. Having 10 picks next year won't mean anything different than having them this year.

  14. i think this draft sucked! There, I said it. I do like Solomon, but considering  we will draft 25-32 in each round next year, while having 2 second rd. picks..and some money to spend, I think Beane has zero balls...period. We sat from 33 to 60 to 95 and did jack *****. That is the most lame stretch by any Gm that could be possible.

There were multiple teams with 2  2s and 2 3s and we couldn't pull off a deal with one of our late rd. 2025 picks? This draft really changed my mind on Beane...less.

Well we just got a next years 4th. That’s actually good value. Get another 4th. Package those with your 2nd from Diggs. Along with your own 2nd. Your 1st. Get into the top 5 and get an actual good WR next year.

hell, at the rate we’re going this year we’ll be somewhere around 15 next draft so it won’t be that much of a move.

    Wait. what?

I’ve got news for you Beane. If there aren’t any guys worth drafting now in rd 5, there isn’t going to be anymore that are worth it in the 6th. Get picks next year or just take someone at this point.

Picks next year for what? If this year doesn't give you an idea of where we're at...

What kind of a post is this.  For all the time you spend putting together a Round 1 mock you seem to have no sense of how the draft works as a whole.  I have my issues with Beane but he excels on Day 3, there is no dispute.

But that's the equivalent of the underwear Olympics. We are either gonna overpay to move up in the 4th or watch the best of the rest come off the board before our first pick.

At this point I could care less. I wouldn't be surprised if he traded 3 of those 5ths for a 2025 4th. The fact that he couldn't pull a 2025 pick out and do something last night really pees me off. Next year will he turn those early picks into a basket full of day 3s?
