I’d take Edmunds over Oliver.  Edmunds has improved a ton this year and is integral to the pass defense. Oliver flashes a couple times a game but when he was out, it made no difference.  I don’t think Oliver is a JAG, but his size will always be an issue.  He doesn’t play with the crazy agility that makes smaller 3 Techs great - he’s more power. And he’s not long enough to dominate with power. Good player but some team will vastly overpay him.

I am somewhat disappointed in both. I thought Oliver was our most effective interior d lineman today by quite a bit. But for both players, when you look at the season overall they are underwhelming. Oliver has .5 sacks, Edmunds has 1. Edmunds has defended 4 passes, 0 interceptions, 0 forced fumbles, 0 fumble recoveries, and 4 tackles for loss. Taron Johnson has 4 tackles for loss! Disappointing to say the least.

  2. Based on our turnovers, team discipline has been an issue all season. In the early games we had large enough leads that they didn't hurt us. We also have gotten away from the short, high percentage quick passes that worked so well for us earlier this season. It makes Josh less vulnerable to the pass rush, eats clock and lead to tds. Also do we even have a screen pass play when we recognize blitzing situations? We never effectively execute one.

  3. The team discipline has been a concern. We have turned the ball over all season. We were fortunate enough to have large enough leads in some of the early games that the turnovers didn't hurt us. I think the discipline also carries over to our offensive play calling. Early in the season we were marching down the field with high percentage quick throws which ate clock and lead to tds. We've gotten away from that which also makes Josh more vulnerable to the pass rush. Also, do we even have a screen pass play in our playbook? It would work so well when we recognize blitzes, but we never execute one.

The Bills Offense is a little overrated.  The Bills have only scored 27, 24, 23, and 19 points in 4 of last 5 games. Nothing to get excited about.

Had a fumble inside the 5 yard line at KC, a pick inside the 5 last night, a lost fumble against Baltimore and against Miami.  That’s why I said we clean those up and our offense rolls.

Think Roquan might fare better in Baltimore than he did in Chicago, but he hasn't been anything special the last couple years in Chicago. I've been relatively down on Edmunds for most of his career too, but he's been better than Roquan this year. Really nice deal for Chicago, especially considering they were probably going to let him walk in the offseason.

Based on reports earlier this year it has been my understanding that Smith has been disappointing in Chicago.

Preventing the big play and controlling the clock is going to be the game plan vs the Bills forever now.

The Jets do have some decent personnel to execute that game plan. James Robinson now at RB is good. They have a talented defense.

But they don't have a QB.

The Bills will feel better going adding in the third LB or big nickel vs Wilson than they did vs Rodgers.

I agree this is what teams will attempt going forward. The bigger problem for our opponents, however, will be stopping our offense. Once you’re down two or more scores running the ball will not get you back in the game. As long as our offense cleans up a few miscues and turnovers, we will continue to roll.

This thread is… something. Context matters, but c’mon. We beat the Packers (who were full of juice) by 10 points. People have off games, outside of Diggs, most of the D, and Singletary, no one really played all that outstanding.

This should be something celebrated, not an indictment. How many teams can play a C game and come out winning by 10 points?

I get that we’re kinda spoiled these days, and that was less than stellar, but seriously. The team is great, deal with it.

I was thinking the same thing. We didn’t play all that well, seemed a little unfocused coming off the bye, and still won handily. We are an extremely dangerous team and Gabe is an excellent receiver. He is probably one of the strongest receivers in the league and comes through when needed.

How are you going to trade a guy who may never play again due to injury?

And he's very very valuable at safety, though the replacements are doing a very solid job. This defense as a whole is doing a terrific  job. They're getting by without Hyde because the rest of them are so terrific, particularly the front seven this year. And they're getting by without White for the same reason.

Both White and Hyde are terrific, both very valuable.

Hyde is a team leader and has been for years. I think he has helped Poyer become the player he is. Hyde plays an extremely intelligent game and will probably end up on the wall one day. One of the very best off-season signings in Bills history and one of the best safeties in the game.

I would hope the league fines Mac for intentionally kicking a defender while sliding.  Once he starts to slide the defender pulls up to avoid contact, making himself defenseless.  Kicking him then is dirty/cheap.  Although I expect nothing less from the Pats*

Wait, wasn't he voted in the top 100 list last year as such a great qb??

  10. Was a big Bills fan from back in the early sixties. My dad and older brothers were big Bills fans which obviously gained my interest. I loved their awesome defense and got to meet Tom Sestak, along with Pete Gogolak, Darryl Lamonica and Dick Hudson at an autograph session at the motel field in Blasdell where they practiced. I think it was the Camelot. I could not get over how massively huge Sestak was. To a small child he truly was a giant. His play on the field was second to none and his quickness and strength at his position were unmatched. If he grabbed a running back by the ankle, that running back was going nowhere. Unfortunately his career was shortened by a knee injury. That Bill's defense was legendary with Stratton, Tracy, Jacobs, Day, McDole, Dunaway, Saimes and Byrd.  The best of all those greats was Sestak.

  11. This just doesn't make sense to me. San Fran is decent with a good defense, but I don't think McCaffery does much for that offense. Garropolo is not a threat to beat you with deep passes and he doesn't buy time in the pocket or rolling out where he is a threat to "make something happen". Their needs are much greater than a multi-purpose running back to be a real threat. They will be competitive, but it would have made more sense for McCaffery to land in LA, KC, Tampa or even Green Bay.
