Out-coached once again as McDermott proves once again he is not a big game coach. Outplayed for much of the game, yet, with the game on the line, and an all out jail break in his face, Allen puts a ball on the money only for Kincaid to drop the ball. Just once I want someone on this team to step up and make a play besides Allen. Allen wasn't perfect tonight as he obviously needed to be, but in the moment where he needed to be a miracle worker, he delivered an almost impossible ball only for his target to not make the play. Was it an easy catch? No. But I like Kincaid and I hold that guy to a high standard. That's a catch he needs to make and I am sure he would tell you the same.
I have a lot of issues with this game. Some to do with coaching. Some to do with the players. And, of course as we all knew would happen, I have some major issues with the refs (there were at least 3 bogus spots that cost us big time. Who knows, that last one may have cost us the game). But man.....I just don't have it in me right now. There have been games I have absolutely thought we were the better team in and deserved to win. Tonight, with the way we played, and the way this game was coached, we were kind of lucky to even be in the game with a chance.
It's frustrating and aggravating because going into this season, the expectations were not super high for us. We let 10 starters go and we had $70+ million in dead cap space. We couldn't sign anyone and couldn't improve the team at all. Heck, most didn't have us even making the Playoffs. But here we are again, one game away from the Super Bowl with an inferior roster in a lot of ways, and we are living and dying with this team.
It's probably unfair to them in a lot of ways because by all accounts, we overachieved this season. Just watching them this year you could see how obvious it was that we need 2 WRs with some actual speed and separation ability. We are in desperate need of a dominant 1-tech. Our safeties are a weak spot and we can't generate a consistent pass rush. We saw it all season and we saw it tonight. So we knew we were a flawed team all year, but they always found a way to hide those inadequacies just enough to keep winning. Unfortunately, that is no conciliation and it just really hurts. Will we have a better roster next season because we will actually have some money to spend? Probably.....but situations change and you never know what injuries you are going to have. That's why, when you are in this situation, whether you should be there or not, you have to take advantage of it. And we didn't tonight. Hopefully, we'll get another shot at it at some point. Most likely, if we stay healthy, we'll have a shot to be right back in this game next season, but nothing is guaranteed and I am just sick and tired of waiting for next year.
Allen had the 3 best throws of the game. 3rd and 13 to Shakir, and the two deep balls to Hollins.Mahomes best pass was a 50/50
ball to Worthy that should have been an incomplete pass.

The bottom line to me is that the offense was put in position to win the game or at least tie. How many QBs legacies are based on games just like this one?
Given the circumstances of the blitz there, Josh put the ball in position to keep the drive alive. They couldn't convert.
We won last week because of turnovers. I knew going into this game KC doesn't turn it over very often and it was going to take our offense simply outscoring them. We left 4 points on the field on two bad 2 pt tries and also turned the ball over on downs twice (one very questionable).
How about the fact that the offense put up enough points where they could even put together a final drive. KC hasn’t scored 30 points all season! This was literally the worst defensive performance of the season against the Chiefs and the 2nd best offensive performance against the Chiefs. You have to look at the whole game. Defense was terrible (but that was predictable).

If you look at their individual performances, it’s hard to say Mahomes outplayed Allen. Allen had way more high difficulty throws and had to play against the much tougher defense. It is what it is, but the Chiefs are more well balanced, better special teams and better coaching.

Except that's where he should have looked the second he saw the blitz. Josh was surprised. Mahomes wouldn't have been surprised. That's why Mahomes is in almost every Super Bowl and Josh is always a bridesmaid.
Hard to say that. Spags is the best DC in the league and Mahomes never has to face him.-

And yet the Offense still had a shot to win it but failed. It's truly amazing how so many refunds to put blame on how dreadful the Offense was.
Scoring 29 points against the Chiefs defense on the road is exceptional. The offense wasn’t dreadful at all.-

Josh had a chance to win it. That was the game.
If Allen scored a TD there to win, it would be the most points given up by KC in like 4 years and their defense is way better now. If that is what it takes to win, then it’s too much. The defense needs to be better. The KC offense was mediocre this year. -

The also created a turnover. How about the Offense actually do something with their first 3 downs, instead of having to go for it on so many 4th downs.???
They really didn’t create a turnover. That was an unforced error on a failed handoff. I give them credit for recovering, but that whole play was lucky and not forced.-

True, but you simply can't ignore the fact that defense also put the offense in position to win the game with almost no time left, and instead, turned the ball over on downs.
We knew the defense was not great going into this game and also knew we were going to simply have to beat them with our offense.
Defense let Mahomes march down the field with zero resistance. You know they could have actually gotten a stop and given up no points so Allen could go for a game winning FG instead of his back against the wall.-

Yep. 29 points on the road against a good defence should be well enough to win.
KCs offence is good, but it's not great.Defence continues to sh*t the bed against KC in the playoffs
Most points given up by the Chiefs this year (not counting week 18): 30 points to the Bills.Second most points given up: 29 points to the Bills just now.
The offense mostly did its job. If you have to score 33 points on the road against an elite defense, then you are pretty much already cooked.

Josh wasn’t great today. Brady needed a little more ingenuity.
say what you will about the defense, they played good enough to win us the game in the second half.
That Kinkaid drop though will be infamous. They should trade him. Huge disappointment
Allen could have been a little better, but how many perfect throws down the field into tight windows did he have to make. Did Mahomes even make one? We need better scheming guys open, or better separation from skill guys (same story all year).-

Felt like based on how we played the score was actually closer than it should have been. Credit to Allen for that.

At the end of the day, KC’s defense made every yard hard to get and it felt like our defense rolled out the red carpet. Margin for error was zero and we didn’t quite get it done.

Kincaid dropped the ball. Allen put it right on him.

I guess let them score quickly.

If we didn’t chase points earlier I think we’d be up by 3 right now (because KC wouldn’t have gone for 2).

Good coaching that drive to push the ball down the field to score quickly. Even if our defense capitulates it makes it more likely the offense will get another drive.

Josh is overthinking the push tush....he needs to justt go forwards...
On 1.5 yards I agree with finding the soft spot. But on half a yard, just lean forward. -

Brady is terrible. They have something figured out. Just hand it off and go wide
Yep, they’ve stuffed the tush push 3 times now. I think it was successful once. So obviously KC has solved it for this game.-

One thing they need to do is play action off Cook (maybe an offseason goal). You know the Chiefs will adjust to stop Cook from now on
Play action for 15 yard chunks should be happening the drive. -
Nice throw by Mahomes, maybe a little bit higher would have been better.

Embarrassing how they kept cook out of the pro bowl
Tough luck being in the same conference as 2 RBs with borderline MVP seasons. He should have gotten in over Mixon though. -

Chasing points is stupidity, if they just would’ve kicked extra points, they’d have the three-point lead.
I sort of understand it because the defense until this past drive didn’t like line they could get a stop at all.

The Ravens, Broncos and Chiefs were 3 of the top 5 defenses this season and the offense put up 31, 27 and 29 on them while doing well in TOP in each game and only giving a short field once (which was the BS call of the 4th down this game), with zero lost fumbles or interceptions.
The defense just flat out stinks and gave zero resistance to the Ravens or KC. They have to do better if we want to make the Super Bowl.
