Well no I would not think they could afford or would want Ertz at this point. It does seem like McDermott has wanted two strong tightends for the last few years between Ertz and bringing in OJ Howard they seem to have a plan there.

I’m hoping Rousseau comes out like a madman week 1. The whole Dline for that matter, I’d feel pretty good if we can get after rodgers and not have to rush Von back til he’s a 100 percent.

I love the sport of football & the Bills - but my goodness is there any limit to the hypocrisy of the NFL regarding gambling. They are in bed with the gambling industry - their profits are greatly enhanced by people gambling on their games - yet feel they can act surprised when issues like this crop up.
Agreed and if I remember correctly they avoided having a team in Vegas for the very reason that it could compromise the game. Yet here we are with non stop advertising for sports books. It’s sad, I’m watching good friends blow money they don’t have on this.
At least when they had to go to the off track wagering or bookie, it limited how often they would gamble. Now they’ll gamble on literally anything all the time, it’s pretty wild to watch. -
I’d like to see Jerome Bettis in todays game in a modern weight training program and diet.

I didn’t see any updates but are we bringing on any new coaches to make up for McDermott’s clapping now that he’s calling plays? I feel like we’re gonna need at least two people to make up for the loss of sheer power and enthusiasm he brings to his claps.

I think our roster makeup wasn't the main issue for our team not making it to the Super Bowl last season. It was injuries and insane circumstances being too much to overcome. That said, I think the roster is in better shape than it was last season.
- We didn't have RB's for every situation. Singletary, Cook, and Hines were all very similar backs. With the additions of Damien Harris and Latavius Murray - our RB core is diversified.
- Our Pass Catchers were lacking beyond Diggs, Davis, and Knox. When Davis got banged up and Crowder went down, we had to do things like trot out Jake Kumerow and sign guys who were toast like Brown and Beasley.
With the additions of Kincaid (who will be more WR than TE), Harty, Sherfield, and Shorter (as well as Shakir with the training wheels off), we're in a much better position of depth and taking pressure off Diggs.
- Our Interior OL was a liability. Bates was fine, but between Saffold's play and Morse's injuries (which had us playing Greg Van Roten on the line) - the middle of the line was a massive problem.
With Saffold and Van Roten gone and the additions of McGovern, Torrence, and Edwards - we now have 4 starting quality Guards. If Morse is to go down, Bates will play with Torrence or Edwards next to him. This will help in the run game and protection massively.
- Injuries and lack of depth ravaged our D-Line's ability to stop the run. Miller will return from injury this season. Jordan Phillips was a very good run stuffer. But he was injured too frequently. Now we have him back and if he's injured again, we've added solid run stuffer Poona Ford to the mix of what we had last season.
- Safety was a massive problem. When you lose Micah Hyde for the year early in the season, you're behind the 8 Ball. Especially when there's a massive drop off in talent between your starters and your backups. And especially with Poyer than getting injured and what happened to Hamlin.
This season we get Poyer and Hyde back 100% And now if we lose one of them, we have Taylor Rapp coming into the Lineup, who is an accomplished Starter - as opposed to times last season where we were rolling out Cam Lewis and Dean Marlowe.
I don't think it's accurate to say Beane is concerned about MLB. Fans are worried.
But Beane's actions in FA and the Draft juxtaposed with what he's said everytime it's brought up says he's done what he wants to do there.
He drafted Bernard with a Day 2 pick last year. He wants to see if that investment pays dividends. He signed AJ Klein and Tyrel Dodson back as vet insurance. Then he Drafted Dorian Williams in the 3rd this year, who has the flexibility to play both Outside and Inside.
If he planned on doing more than what he's done, he'd have done it already. And if he didn't like Williams in the Draft, he'd have either moved up from the 3rd to get a Drew Sanders or a Trent Simpson or not drafted Williams at all.
Again, I think MLB is just where Beane wants it this year. It's fans that are worried about it.
100%. If we had Von and a healthy Jordan Phillips on that line come playoffs I feel like it’s a different outcome.
I really like the off-season we had, especially offensively. I feel more comfortable with McDermott having to make up for deficits on the defense than I do with Dorsey not having all the weapons at his disposal.
I think if the D can stay a top ten unit which is entirely possible and the offense gets just a little bit more diverse with their game plans then we’re right back in the Super Bowl mix.

I would love to see the Bills make a trade for him. I checked what the Ravens are still in need of and DT was one of the positions of need. Now that the Bills signed Poona Ford could Ed Oliver be expendable in some kind trade for Queen? I don’t know what would be fair compensation in a trade scenario involving these 2 but I’m not against the concept if it were to materialize.
I don’t like the idea of moving Ed in general especially to the ravens. Strong chance we meet them again the playoffs and I don’t want an extra motivated Oliver on the other side. Let big Ed ride out the year and take the comp pick if he can’t be resigned imo.
now Ed to Arizona for Hopkins maybe that’s a deal I might consider.
i do think the staff feels comfortable with what they have at backer for better or worse.

I still think we’ve never replaced that Lorenzo Alexander role from year one of McDermott. That guy who could line up off the ball or his hand in the dirt. He was very strong against the run, a solid blitzer and good enough in coverage that you didn’t know what he was doing pre snap. I’m excited to see what the plan is for these young backers.

Nice to see someone else talking about Baylon Spector. I thought he looked real good last preseason also. Kid comes out of a program (Clemson) that always plays good defense. Did not look overmatched on the field. Dare I say he reminded me some of Zach Thomas. I think he is the darkhouse to be our starting MLB.
People were definitely high on him after last preseason. I agree I think the staff has him as their man in the middle as well. I don’t think Bernard is anything more than Milanos backup and special teamer but who knows. Excited to see the battle during camp play out.

After the season ended it appears that Brandon Beane asked himself how can I make this team better; and decided that we're going to live and die by our offense. (You only need to stop them once if they can't stop you at all)
With 2 projected o-line upgrades, an upgrade to the 3rd receiving option, and more speed and size added to the wide receiver room. The Bills are looking in prime position to do improve what was last year a top 5 offense.
With that said, the aforementioned facts got me thinking about how the Bills offense projects out this year, statistically speaking.
Based on the past few season averages and some (probably incorrect) projections on my part, the floor for Josh Allen is set at 5,000 yards passing and ~50 tds.
I'm not entirely sure what to think of the Bills ground game this year so I'm not going to touch on that.
Diggs 115 1400 10
Davis 60 1000 8
Kincaid 40 400 5
Shakir 40 500 3
Knox 50 500 8
Cook 25 200 5
Shorter 10 150 1
Harty 30 450 4
Sherfield 15 200 2
Hines 10 85 1
Morris 10 115 1
Allen
(P.S. A huge thanks to the resident draft experts here on TSW. I love reading all of your insight and getting to know the prospects better through your work.)
Give me a similar stat line from Josh as last year with less turnovers and an improved running game and I feel confident going into the playoffs next year.
if Josh has to go play hero ball again all year we’re out early in the playoffs again imo.
it feels like it’s been a quiet offseason but I’m really excited to see how things shake out.

Does this make Hines our new Taiwan Jones? I know he’s going to be primary returner but does he have experience playing gunner? I like this signing but interested to see if we keep four active backs on game day. Maybe Dorsey is going to commit to pounding the rock.
I feel like teams are getting so small and fast on defense that a team that can bully up front and hammer the ball down field is very dangerous in the playoffs.

Honestly I’d take Suh in the rotation. He will probably wait to sign with a contender again mid season but he looked rock solid in the playoffs. Our defense needs some folks with a mean streak

It's a bad year for WRs.
Which is amazing considering all the guys who had an extra year due to Covid and how pss happy college ball is. You would figure wr and corner would be deep every year especially this year but overal it’s definitely a weak class

Bears commuting to that oline

Don’t know much about him but his highlights he looks fast and definitely likes to hit. He plays a lot like Milano imo which isn’t a bad thing. Is it what the defense needs? No idea but I’ll trust McDermott to put the best d on the field as possible.

well aware that’s why it doesn’t concern me. I’m looking at this as more of a wr pick than a te. We don’t need him blocking, we need any him finding those soft spots and being a human vacuum and catching the ball in traffic which seems to be his strong suit. I’m excited about the potential

Watching highlights of Kincaid I just see a lot of similarities here. He just looks more like a receiver on film than a TE. I'm quite happy we took him over one of the smaller slot receivers I thought the Bills were gonna go after. Don't love that they had to trade up for him and unfortunately with this pick my hopes of them targeting Jonathan Mingo in the 2nd have been shattered. Hopefully they still go after a decent guard in round 2 before McD goes off on his defensive picks.
I heard he has back issues too so it’s possible the staff wants him to slim down which would help him be that big slot weapon with added quickness imo.
Historical Perspective of QB Running Game Contribution in Playoffs

I seem to find myself saying at least once a game, he’s just special. Running and throwing he combines the best of both elements. I’ve conceded that he’s not going to change his playing style and I’m ok with it. I don’t see him playing past 35 with the abuse his body takes.
I just think you limit his potential if you tske away his running on both designed plays and on scrambles.
