giving Butler (this year) a seemingly inflated extension also with even less on record to suggest that he's gonna even be an average G........
And honestly, does anyone not think that they couldn't have found a G to give us what Butler does for half the money.......
We didn't force Brad Butler, who's started for one season with unspectacular results......
Not sure why you keep taking shots at Brad Butler. If you had watched the Bills play last season you might have noticed that he really played some fantastic football throughout the year.

Gasp! a 4th round rookie who was thrust into the starting role during his rookie season was victimized by opposing NFL coaches? Cut Ko now!
Yeah, because that's exactly what I said.
But what should I expect from a self-important schlub whose nearly complete dependence on straw men serves only to show that he is afflicted with an apparently incurable sense of wildly misplaced superiority.
Simpson was not a weak spot, and not "routinely victimized" that year.Yes, he was. And it's nobody's fault but your own if you couldn't see it.
You're vision (or lack thereof) is so completely and utterly skewed that when somebody mildly refers to him as "average" you feel the need to call them an "idiot".
Frankly, I'm not sure whether you're really that clueless or just that big of a jerk.
Funny you should mention DB playing and coaching experience when considering the histories of Buffalo's head coach and defensive coordinators. I would say they might even be a better judge of talent than even the moderators of this board!Yeah, that must be why when some of us have been praying to get Jabari Greer on the field for years, that brilliant staff has elected to repeatedly trot out the execrable Kiwaukee Thomas so we could watch him spend two years as one of the worst nickel backs in the NFL.
The only thing holding him back from hopefully becoming an elite player is his ankle..... and the lack of instincts he's displayed so far, and the fact that even though he is repeatedly tested he only breaks up one pass a month, and his hesitancy to make decisions (which at that position is no different than a poor decision), and his problem with always being a step late, and his habit of giving up 1stdown conversions, etc. so on and so forth. There, I fixed your sentence for you.

I'm not saying the guy sucks or that he can't get better. But all this repeated talk about how great he was as a rookie and how huge a part of of this defense he's going to be is patently absurd. I give him credit for playing hard but the fact of the matter is that he was the 2nd biggest pigeon on this team in his year as a starter; and if you only count 11 starters he was Pigeon #1.
Will he get better? I sure hope so; because if he doesn't he's simply not good enough to play in this league, much less be the kind of impact player so many people seem to think he'll be.
If he continues to play at the level he has so far it won't be long before he can join Keion Carpenter as an insurance salesman at Wildly Overrated Safetynet Inc.

Well that was really worth flipping out about and calling people scumbags and idiots.
Oh, and the 8th and 9th picks that came right after Ellis? They're not signed either.

what kind of conditioning you talking about. Most kids today are out of shape, except for maybe their fingers from Video games. We are not talking hardcore conditioning here. It will show you who might be your better athletes. I have never had a kid quit after conditioning. It was during tackling drills that one might quit. And yes you have to learn how to tackle the right way or they could get hurt. Just keep the little guys together. You send a little guy against abruiser and there is a good chance he will quit.
I recognize that there are way too many fat little Johnnys with calluses on their video game fingers. But you aren't going to change that with a week or two's worth of conditioning. All your going to do is annoy the kids who don't need the exercise and came out to play football, not to do aerobics.
The vidkids can get in shape on their own time. Wasting everybody else's time with a bunch of pointless sprints and conditioning drills is only going to make them not want to play ball again.

Its one thing to be perceived as an idiot, its another to open your mouth and erase all doubts.
Then perhaps you shouldn't have said anything.
Because Simpson was a weak spot and was routinely victimized by opposing co-ordinators in his only year as a starter.

From the local paper today:
A Knox man was injured and flown to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh after a DUI hit-run Sunday in Clarion County.
Raymond George II, 32, remained in the hospital Tuesday night and was listed in fair condition, according to a nursing supervisor.
State police said George was injured after exiting his vehicle and smashing his head into the windshield following a hit-run crash.
George was traveling on Camp Coffman Road in Ashland Township when his vehicle left the road and struck a tree, police said. They said George left the scene in his vehicle.
The vehicle was leaking radiator fluid after the crash, and became disabled on the roadway, police said. They said George, who was DUI, exited the vehicle and proceeded to smash his head into the windshield, causing the glass to break.
George passed out from the injuries, police said.

I really like my Ko Simpson jersey, but I'm going to need him to step it up.
Do you ever get any weird looks for wearing a Bills jersey with "Simpson" on the back?
-
I respect the guy, but after this off-season, I surely will be hoping for Joe Namath in LA type of a season wherever he goes.
Like most annoying issues this one becomes markedly less annoying if you pay it no attention.
And I hope Favre lights it up wherever he goes (unless its the Jest). I'm reserving my schaudenfreude for the only target which I think deserves it; and that's the folks who have given Brett his own category, rather than Favre himself.
-
Start out first week or 2 by doing conditioning.
I agree with most everything in this thread except for the above.
Absolutely do NOT do that to those kids. There's not a 9yr old on this planet that needs to be running sprints and doing f'ing grass drills. If you want to teach them monkey rolls or have them run some tapioca relays that'd probably be all right for short stretches if you make it fun(ny). But for gawd's sake please don't try and condition a bunch of little kids who will then forever hate football.

Good news. Sounds like a LB that will raise a forearm from time to time and deliver a good whack. That's a plus.
Absolutely.
I think we've all seen enough of Bills LB's who look like they'd be more comfortable on the pep squad; dancing their way right out of the play and not even engaging a blocker. I think the front office finally recognized it was a huge factor as far as our inability to hold down opposing rungames. Mitchell is a guy who plays with no fear and will stick his face in the fan without thinking twice. He's OK in coverage and can rush the passer some when asked but his strength is his willingness to really bring it at the point of attack and if he doesn't make the play himself at least blow up the lane and force the back to one of his mates. If your looking for a comparison I'd call him a more fluid Sam Rogers.
It's going to be real sweet to finally have a 'backer on that side that will absolutely destroy any slot receiver or most any TE that tries to take him on. It'll take away some go-to options that opposing co-ordinators could always rely on in addition to freeing up the DE's from some of the anchor responsibilities they really had to focus on last year. If we can go Crowell/PaulPosluzny/Mitchell all year we've immediately vaulted from having the very worst LB corps in the NFL to having a very respectable and solid group.

Eh.
Pedestrian LB stats after 4 seasons who at age 28 and season #5 made a flash in a couple of games behind a decent DL.
Who heard of the guy before last season's playoffs?
He's a huge upgrade for us.
Not the world's greatest athlete but he brings a level of strength, smarts and toughness that Ellison will never even remotely approach.
He's not going to the Pro Bowl and he's not a real gamebreaker but he is consistent and aggressive, two qualities lacking in the player he is replacing and even just average play from him will be a massive improvement. Not to mention the positive influence his respected veteran leadership will add to the squad.
You may not see him all over the highlights Cincy, but you will see him all over the field.

And right before the game make sure you walk across the parking lot towards Federal and grab a grilled cheese in the 222 Bar. It's a P'burgh tradition.
You might want to bring a knife too; and I don't mean for the sandwich.

Your thoughts about Ko Simpson Vs George Wilson in training camp?
Either way we're going to have real problems at the Free. Opposing co-ordinators have routinely attacked the Bills there for the last couple years regardless of which of them was manning the position, and they've attacked that part of the field with a lot of success.
Ironically the acquisitions of KMitchell and two more solid corners could mean even bigger trouble for whoever's at FS. While co-ordinators have also had great success working on the lamentable Keith Ellison and the even more hapless Kiwaukee Thomas better play from those positions may put even more pressure on the FS position as opponents find themselves with fewer weaknesses to exploit.
I hope Ko is a strong kid because the free ride he's gotten from the Bills fan base thus far may be about to end before the season is half over. And as we've seen, when the free ride is over things can get mean real quick.

Reports now coming out that Favre (nor any other Packer) doesn't have a team-issued phone.
This is getting funny now.
Packer official: Yes sir, we've got evidence of tampering right here in our team-issued phone records.
NFL official: You can't perk players with phones in the salary cap era; that's a violation.
Packer official: ummmmm..... uhhhhhh........ errrrrrrrr ............. what phone?

You forgot Robert Smith.
Good call.
Interesting that when you start to think of guys who left the game with money on the table you come up with so many backs. Them boys take a pounding.....
I mean, he goes from tight end to right tackle and people say "Hey, look at that." And then he gets shifted to left tackle and it goes from "Anything would be an upgrade" straight to "Holy Shiiit, He's a GOD! A FREAKING GOD!"I didn't think he was quite as good last year as he was the year before when he was absolutely kicking the crap out of people. But maybe that's just a case of exceeded vs matched expectations.
Either way he's probably the most dominating player on this team right now.

I once again defer to Pat Kirwan, who is a bit obnoxious on the radio, but I think is nuts on accurate with this comment: Money is undefeated in the NFL.
Tell Pat that Barry Sanders, Ricky Williams, Barry Foster, Christian Okoye and Jim Brown say "Hi"

Thanks for all the sound advice re: getting fitted, going to demos, taking lessons, etc. They're all very sensible ideas but aren't practical for me here in the hills of Western Pennsyltucky. I'm looking at a 2 hour round trip to find a decent pro and a 3-4 hour round trip for any kind of demo day or a fitting. I just wanted to know if anybody had one and how they liked it (thanx for the feedback Big Cat).
My irons are very long with a slight draw and I hit a fairway wood straight as an arrow and can carry it over 230. But for some reason I've been slicing any driver I hit for the last 25+ years. I can straighten it out by playing the ball about 6-8" off my front foot, rolling my right thumb back to the right and making a concerted effort to throw the head of the club out on my follow through, but all that tweaking of my regular swing saps me of any power I gain from hitting driver; then I don't end up any longer off the tee than I do with my inherited $9.99 K-Mart driving iron.
If I can find a driver that will help turn my natural slice into a controlled fade I can pick up the extra 30 yards that will prevent me from having to hit two clubs higher than my buddies. Those sumbitchces are starting to beat me and we can't have that.
I found a preowned r5 Draw driver online for under $100 that should be here in about a week. It will be the final piece in the new set I've just assembled, which is the first and only time I've ever bought clubs in my life. For the last quarter century I've been using the same rusty, bent up old hand-me-downs I had back in high school. Now maybe we'll see how my smart-assed friends like me attacking pins with a new 8-iron instead of trying to hit the center of the green with a dinged-up crooked old 5-iron.
-
I haven't carried a driver in my bag in over a decade because I was tired of cutting everything off the tee. I've now heard enough Linda Ronstadt and Wal-Mart jokes from my buddies and am ready to put a driver back in the bag. I've heard the R7 Draw does a nice job of minimizing slice (or at least turning it into a fade) and was wondering if anybody here uses one.
If so, whaddya think of it?

I cannot believe they got a 2nd rounder for that over-rated sack of shlt. I hope the Skins enjoy spending every Sunday watching him make one play in the 2nd quarter and then disappearing for the rest of the game.
Here's what I don't understand

Funny thing is that I despised the pick and I absolutely wanted to hate on Butler the first chance I got. imo there's nothing worse on a field than a gratuitous shot at a guys knee and his backside low blow on that BC End infuriated me.
But damn if the guy didn't come out and start kicking asses when he got his shot.
He shut my big mouth right quick.
